will flashing a new radio fix my wifi issue? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I'm complete noon and have tried searching for answers but I get confused about what can and can't be done and whether radios need to match ROMs or just phone etc.
Anyway my problem is I just update my ROM from foxhound 4.1.2 to slim ROM 4.2.2. I really love the new ROM but my WiFi doesn't connect properly in fact I need to mess about turning flight mode on and off about 5 times before it connects. It tends to just loop on the "obtaining IP address step" then fail.
So my question - do radios control the behaviour of WiFi? If so is it possible for me to flash the radio from my previous ROM onto this ROM (never had this problem with prev ROM) and if so where do I get the radio from?
Please help
Thanks

No WiFI is Kernel.
Ask your question in the roms thread .
Try reading the basic faqs and guides before flashing then you might understand what you are doing .
Modems are in the modem thread under search .

I will have look thanks for the reply but I posted here because I thought it was forum rules to ask a question in the q&a thread. My mistake.

No ask a question in Q&A by al means but if its specific to a rom the ask in the roms thread and read the thread for same problems .

I see what your saying thanks. I can't find an exact match for the other forums you suggested but assume they would be in the original development forum?
Thanks again

help please

ok well this is my first time trying to put install a custom rom on my phone but i just have a few questions. i have read all the stickies already but just need a little clarification. i havent quite decided on a rom yet but i know i want to try the siyah kernel. Do i install it through mobile odin?? and then do i do the same for the rom on my choosing?? im already rooted. and depending on the rom i choose, do i have to be on a specific firmware like on 2.3.4 or 2.3.6?? do i have to flash using mobile odin or cwm. i dont want to trip the flash counter. and last question i think, how do i get cwm, or is it already in the phone
First, please use more descriptive thread titles so people that actually search can find relevant info. This title is useless.
Second, all you asked about is covered in the FAQ and various stickies. You obviously did not read the one about not tripping the counter or you wouldn't have asked. CWM is included in almost every custom ROM and kernel. Reading would have told you that. I suggest you go back, read and forget flashing until you completely understand what you are doing. We are not here to bail you out of mistakes you make from not reading and understanding.
thats exactly why im asking. before i make a mistake

Don't ask, read. This is a self-service forum, not the Help Desk. No one in here is paid to give answers, that's why you need to find them for yourself and only ask when it is absolutely necessary. At this point, for you, it isn't as the answers are already here if you take the time to look.
then there wouldnt be a q&a section in the forum.

The existence of Q&A does not relieve you of following forum rules, which clearly state not to start new threads without first searching and reading the stickies. This is common understanding for almost all internet forums and something you agreed to when you joined XDA. Q&A is for the rare item not covered in the FAQ or stickies or found by doing a search. Your questions do not qualify.

Firstly you probably want a kernel with CWM. Siyah & Entropy both have that. Flash it in Odin (This you will have to look at stickies for) and you will gain root/cwm. Then choose a rom that is safe, I would say anything in the dev section that says 2.3.4-2.3.6. You don't have to match your version to the ROM. With the zip you download, enter CWM mode (look at stickies) and flashing it in there. You will now have whatever kernel they use with that ROM.
Want more info? Look in the stickies

I believe this thread has run its course....
As stated.. you can post in boards, but you only should do so AFTER searching/reading existing posts to see if your question is answered. There is no reason to make a whole new thread when there are plenty of guides and stickies out there with great info...

latest uk firmware?

Hi all,
Currently on build number I9300XXELK4 but looking to upgrade to the latest uk version of JB. With so many firmwares & OTAs floating about ive got confused lol.
Which is the latest full firmware that fixes the Exynos bug?
Thank you for any help
A five second search would have given you XXELLA as the latest uk ROM.

Also just report it for post moving, then something can be done about it....and you will gain a lot more respect in the process, endearing yourself to those that matter
If you always want to be guaranteed the latest stock rom for your region use Kies, it will only offer the latest.

Renaming Q&A or removing the two forums to one single forum is needed .
You are never going to get them to read the rules read the faqs and guides or post in the correct forum .
Pointless in my view to waste mods time just moving stuff they would need a 24 hour shift .

Thanks for your responses, I was aware of XELLA just not 100% sure and in a rush prior to going to work.

Suggest you read xda rules about bumping threads too often, then the sticky guides. No-one is going to write it all out just for you.

Your sense of entitlement is remarkable, if you can't be bothered to read and follow guides then your phone will stay broken.

in case you havent red the top , i mentioned that i red the threads , also said that coulnt find the solution in them n thinking that my prob is different , i was hoping to see some good answers not lectures for reminding me the rules of the Forum , if you have the answer you could just give the link , thats the least you could do after all , if you dont , i dont need any lectures right now , thanks
That's because 4.3 patches your modem and CSC. Try fixing these both up.
Try this ROM to reset then install your ROM regarding your CSC:
https://hotfile.com/dl/156320160/eb4a939/I9300XXALE8_I9300OJVALE7_OJV.zip.html
Try this PIT while patching the ROM (remember to choose "Repartition" if you chose PIT):

Keep us informed with results.

Critical you read the first two posts .
As i said far to little information posted .
Not a clue what firmware on your phone and your reply just proved a failure to read the faqs and guides .
Basic problem is we are not a help forum but a developers forum scores are nothing to do with it .
Help is given freely but not when users fail to search fail to read the basic faqs and guides and post the same question that is posted ten times a day .
Suggest you read the faqs and guides post some information don't be abusive or go away . I certainly have no inclination to help you preferring to put you on the ignore list .

[Q] help before flashing a new rom (PLEASE DON'T CLOSE THE THREAD)

please don't delete or close the thread..it's a help section and i want help..so closing it will make no sense
now i am on EMF6 stock rom and i was having the 0000 serial number problem and got it fixed by ariza patch v0.5
i want to flash mj9 rom..i know that there will be a problem with the efs thing
so what steps should i make before flashing the rom?
i have read the efs related threads and still dont know what to do
Yes, there will be a problem with your serial number, you will lose network connection. Patched modem will probably help but you'll have to try before you'll know.
Else stay with your current rom, as everything works.
This information is already available in many, many threads -starting a new one so that you get a personal answer, also dictating to the moderators is pretty arrogant.

If your phone is working then do not flash anything .
i want to update
Then do so, but your phone will stop working. A patched modem thread was made for people who'd used ariza, search for it.

I'm afraid but we do not allow discussions on imei modifications (in contrast to those on backup/restore). The good members here have already shown you a path, it is your choice to walk through it. If you expect someone to hold your hand and feed you all the steps, then that's not gonna happen.

You have already posted this identical question in the wrong forum you are still in the wrong forum .
Please read the link given or get some one to translate for you .
There are multiple faqs and guides posted .
As you have twice posted in the I9300 forum you have probably also flashed the firmware for I9300 but you do not have this phone .

So why are you posting in the wrong forum .???
Unfortunately there are plenty that are that dumb who flash wrong firmware .
Suggest once more that you read the faqs and guides first then flash a stock rom for your phone after a full wipe .
