Google now call and text - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When I say to Google now such as "call "jade" "text message jade ......." It says contact not found and it does this for the rest of my contacts. Can anyone help? I am running stock 4.3 on nexus 4 ?

I believe there's a way you can add a nickname for contacts in the contacts app. Maybe it's a name it's having a hard time recognizing?
I have a hard time using that feature as I'm Hispanic and it has a hard time recognizing the Hispanic names I spit at it so I read about that nickname tip. I've yet to try it though.

Yeah I think thats it cause Katie seems to be the only one that works. But here's the catch it says the names like "text dad......" Then it says contact not found I don't have a clue maybe its a setting or they need to send a patch out. Thanks for the feedback

Sorry I couldn't help any more! The good thing is that voice recognition can only get better from here on out, so there's hope yet!

See that in language settings you have kept your native language. For your accent to match your native language should be kept. For example if you are in India you should set your language as 'English India'. Then it should work.
Hit thanks if I have helped you.

But the thing is, I don't have an accent. I was born in the US speaking English. Would setting it to the alternate language so that it can recognize that languages names interfere with regular every day things that I'd say in regular English?

Deleting default words out of personal dictionary

Hey all.
Does anyone know of a way to delete a word out of your personal dictionary that came with the phone? I want to delete a name, because my wife spells her name differently. So every time I use speech to text, it spells her name incorrectly.

I don't know if you can easily but I wonder if the personalized recognition feature would learn it if you correct it in voice search enough times.

It's in the options under keyboard and input.

Both spellings are pronounced the same.

Bump.
Having a similar problem on my N7000, and have found no solution so far.
In Brazilian Portuguese "vc" is the short use for the word "vocĂȘ" (meaning 'you'), but the default keyboard always replace it with uppercase "VC", like it was some acronym for something.
I've tried to add "vc" to the user dictionary, but in the end, the system uses the VC, stored on the system dictionary

How to show a line beneath bad spelled words like in iOS

Since I have my SGS3 a few weeks ago there's something missing and I don't know why. I'm talking about the in line spell checking.
In ICS when you misspell a word a red dotted line appears underneath that word, so you can easily see the mistake and fix it. This is also present in iOS.
Why don't we have that on our SGS3? I really need it to easily check for any mistakes when writing emails and other stuff.
Right now there is no way to see when a word is incorrectly written. I have to re-read all my text again to see if it's correct and it takes to long compared to just looking for the red dots.
It's it just me or is there a way of enabling this feature? I downloaded the ICS keyboard from the market and it doesn't have this much needed feature.
I don't understand why no one seems to find this to be a problem.

Anyone? There must be a way to enable this feature.

samsung keyboard, settng, predictive text, spell correction
Thanks but that's not what I mean. I still don't get any visible sign on a misspelled word. I'm not talking about spell checker.
What I want is something like iOS when you misspell a word and a red dotted line appears beneath the word. That way it's very easy to check for misspelled word on very long notes.
I think I saw this same feature on the ICS keynote. A line appears beneath the mistakes word and it gives you a list of optional words to change to.
This does not appear on my SGS3. Maybe it's because it's not stock Android. How can I get this?
Thanks.

No, no, no. It doesn't need to work like iOS. I'm saying that stock Android has this feature but I don't see it on the SGS3 and that is weird. Stock Android shows you a line beneath any word misspelled. Why not the SGS3?
There has to be a way to show it.

What? He doesn't want all of android to be like iOS just. A feature that is present in stock ICS & jb ROMs. I have it in cm10 I guess Samsung removed it. You could always flash cm9/cm10.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
Use the aosp keyboard, get it from a cm or cm10 rom zip.
look in system/app folder.

I would like that feature to lol I'm a terrible speller and have to figure it out with autocorrect.
Another reason why I will have to root I suppose.

Here is latinIME.apk from CM10

Download it and use a root explorer to move it to system/app

I've already downloaded the ICS and JB keyboards and still that feature is not present. It's not present strangely on any keyboard: Swype, swiftkey, go keyboard, etc. It's actually really weird. It's an essential feature and it comes with stock Android. I don't know if this problem is only with Samsung or if HTC has it too.
Will moving the keyboard file to system really work? I will try it.
My last resort would be to use CM10 I guess.

[Q][CM10] Remove white background in landscape mode

Hey,
I already searched Google and the Forum but I didn't find any help. The thing that bothers me is, that when you're in Landscape mode especially in WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger you don't actually write in the App but in a white Box which pops up. Is there a way to remove it? I'm using CM10 as stated in the title.
I hope I'm not breaking any rules while posting here since it's about CM10.

That is kind of thing that must be related to a keyboard input you're using, try 3rd party keyboards, as I remember GO Keyboard supports that.
thank you in advance I will try that

I like Google's better simply because it corrects words like were to we're.
Problem using the default email app with Google keyboard. Any time you click on a word to fix it, it will automatically enter the word in between the old word. I like the fact that I can click on any word and see additional suggestions but for it to always ent the word in between doesn't work for me.

Quite dissapointed with TouchPal Dealer

I have been using TouchPal dialer for quite sometime now and have always liked it but till recently. Did an update not that long ago and now a lot of the stuff on it is in Chinese, eg when I receive a call the caller ID will be in Chinese, to say the least I'm not happy. Never had this problem before.

Relax... things happen... no app is flawless... post your problem on their app page so they can fix it.
Have you checked the settings (to see if it changed languages on you)? ....and do you mean TouchPal Contacts... or Dialer?
TouchPal contacts is more like an app dedicated to some countries. So it may not fit in.
