Maps on note 2 missing layers? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

On the rezound I was able to add layers to find gas stations etc. But it seems to be missing in the note maps. Is there an addon for this?

There is a tab similar to the multi Window tab for the maps app that brings these up.
However it goes away when you move to navigation mode.

hmm closest thing i could see that you want is to tap into the search bar, then without typing scroll down (just tap out of keyboard) and you'll see services with three dots, hit those to select the map over lay- for say gas stations or whatever. not super convenient.

is that a serious question?
I use it to change brightness and enable/disable bluetooth when getting into my car.
oops double post.
You do know all of that is available in the drop down tray. Including brightness. Just slide your finger across the tray left and right

not if it's on auto
plus, why not use it.
Maybe the OP doesn't feel like sliding down the notification bar.
To turn on BT I can
1) Hit the button on the power widget on my home screen
or
2) slide down notificiation, hit the BT icon, which opens up the BT settings, click enable BT... then hit back to return to my homescreen.
^ apologies, it just doesn't seem "simple clean" to me.....
"simple clean" is referring to the wallpaper... not the widgets/apps setup
eww, toooo many "samsung" on this phone already. =P
I kind of like it.
+1 to frankencat.
I love the samsung aspect to this phone.

[Q] Swype is acting up, can you recommend a keyboard with an apostophe?

I like Swype, but I don't use the swyping feature which sometimes gets in the way if I'm typing quickly with my thumbs. Also, there's a black bar above the keyboard. Permanently. I have word suggestions off, but that still shows, and any new word I type it says "Add xxx to dictionary?". I don't want any of that.

I need a keyboard which has an apostrophe above the . button, so you can hit shift then . to make a ' - I cant do without them and dont want to type like this.
I've tried a lot on Play store but none of them have an apostrophe accessible by touching shift. Any ideas?
Thank you.

Cool App--LMT

I'm not sure if anyone else has tried it, but LMT launcher (not really a launcher) DOES work on the DX2!! Only setback I've found so far is that "slices" used for app launching, literally show up as "app". This is fine for me though, because I'm just using it for toggles, and those icons are showing up--at least on CM7--I haven't tried it on anything else.
If what I've said confuses the mind, here are a few informative links!

This app would be perfect if I could figure out how to launch the stock task switcher from the pie. The task switcher button wouldn't work, and I have tried keying longpress of the soft home to trigger recent apps, but no luck. Long press of the search button (to trigger voice search) worked great.
Its a pretty cool idea. And it matches the browser quick controls so I like the consistency. I tried it out on my phone for a little while but ended up disabling it. I have so many ways already to quickly launch apps and get into settings etc. lol.
About the app icons, if you go into the settings and scroll all the way down, there is an option that says "Show app images". Set that to 1
funny..... in the youtube video you link, it shows how to make the app icon show up. just sayin. you made it sound like it didnt/wouldnt work or something.

Flesky keyboard

I don't know if anyone has heard of this keyboard yet but it's pretty awesome! Sort of like swpye but you can make it super minimal. I found it via drippler, so consider it a double app post of you're looking for new apps for your phone.

Used it a lot and I was impressed with it but Google keyboard is my main preference
If you ever try it out again, I found some tricks!
1. Holding the top row still brings up the numbers and punctuation. You can also get to them by swiping left from the empty space next to m. To get back to letters swipe right.
2. Double spacing by swiping brings up punctuation and you can swipe down over the keyboard to maneuver to which one you want to use.
3. Swiping up from the empty space next to the m will do enter, next line, or search ( whichever is applicable).
4. If you repeat the above but instead hold your finger on the screen for a second longer it will bring up google voice so you can talk instead.
5. By swiping right from the empty space next to z will bring up emojies.
I think the tutorial covers just about the rest. It's all about mastering it.

This is probs better. I came across it while looking for a way to do a single backspace without the spacebar visible but there doesn't seem to be one. I still like the keyboard without the spacebar because there's less chance of accidental mess ups due to the weird placement of the function keys.

OK Google voice detection/always listening

I am positively shocked this is not a larger issue. With the removal of the always listening options for Google Now this devices overall appeal has been greatly limited based kmy needs.
Does anyone in the community know why these features were removed or have any idea on if/when they will return?

I have everything up to date including google play services and have placed the widget on the home screen but am still only seeing 1 option. Which is to allow "OK Google" from the app.

That's not the same thing at all. For starters it takes a whole row of icons. Also it will only work when you are on that specific screen. It won't work if you have an app open and most importantly it doesn't work when the screen is off.
This certainly isn't a hardware limitation, but I think Samsung did this to get users to try the new (and greatly improved s voice). I bet their plan is to bring back Google always on detection in a later update after many people try out s voice.
Anyways in the meantime check out s voice, you might be pleasantly surprised.
I know..but all Samsung phones even nexus had have problems with that actual
