is there a manual way of doing it?

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2399464
Use cydia impactor
Then there is shell menu in the program
Use this command to backup everything
Code:
tar -c /sdcard/backup.tar /data/*
And wait for a while ...
Alternatively you can
Code:
dd if=/dev/block/mtdblock3 of=/sdcard/data.img bs=4096
Then
Code:
md5sum data.img > nandroid.md5
It will give you nandroid backup...copy the contents to backup the /sdcard/clockworkmod directory and then use it to restore in future when you have cwm...
Sent from my SK17i using Tapatalk 4

Code:
[email protected]:/ $ dd if=/dev/block/mtdblock3 of=/sdcard/data.img bs=4096
/dev/block/mtdblock3: cannot open for read: Permission denied
1|[email protected]:/ $ tar -c /sdcard/backup.tar /data/*
/system/bin/sh: tar: not found
is what i get :/
i tried copying the data folder with a file manager but to paste it needed the menu/options button :/

You need to be root user before executing .Use "su" ...and then execute commands...

I want to install Xrecovery but...

The thing wont recognize my phone and wont show the options to do xrecovery or any of the other options except for Flash...please help im desperate for a rom
You need to root first.
Here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1196421
Then in flashtool click 'ask root permissions' and have your phone unlocked and accept superuser permissions w/the prompt on your phone. Then you're good to go.
*edit- make sure it is the fixed xrec for 2.3.3. I use a Rom w xrec included so I didn't have to install it & I dont remember if that's the one in flashtool now.
Which firmware version are you on?
I have done that already...i am rooted because I have superuser on my phone. Where do I check firmware?

Just start all over with flashtool it will work then.
Go to settings then applications, then development, check debug mode.
Start flash tool on your pc and connect the phone
IF the phone is rooted, it should be recognized by flash tool
On flash tool click ask root perm, look at your phone screen, superuser should pop up asking if to give permission, simply choose allow.
Then click recovery on flash tool and wait a sec....
should pop up asking which gingerbread version to use. choose 0.3GB, since its gb version you have.
when you're ready to use xrecovery, restart the phone
as soon as the phone comes on and the first sony ericsson name comes up, keep pressing the back button, xrecovery will come up.
i did both kernel things...but the thing is it won't recognize my device as a rooted device...i have superuser and I have used apps that require root...so i guess the problem is well idk...and thats what i need help with sorting out.
1. Install busybox from market (xrec needs busybox)
2. Give root explorer root acces and mount /system writeable (look in settings of your file explorer)
3. Copy files to right place:
chargemon to /system/bin
charger to /system/bin
sh to /system/xbin
xrecovery.tar to /system/xbin
4. Give above files the right permissions (long touch on file and choose property option):
user > read, write, execute
other > read, execute
group > read, execute

It's works, on my RAZR XT910 Asia, SEAOP.
I am using GNU/Linux and this how I re-ROOT my RAZR back.
Note: Only for advanced and know what todo users. Actually this is for anyone who knows how to use adb or fastboot, either in GNU/Linux, OSX or Windows.
1) I already installed the adb and fastboot in $PATH.
2) Extract the motofail exploit
3) cd /to/motofail
4) $ adb push motofail /data/local/.
5) $ adb shell 'chmod 755 /data/local/motofail'
6) $ adb shell '/data/local/motofail exploit'
7) $ adb reboot
8) $ adb remount
9) $ adb push su /system/xbin/.
9a) $ adb shell 'chmod 4755 /system/xbin/su'
10) $ adb shell '/data/local/motofail clean; reboot'
11) Install Superuser from Market.
If you already rooted your RAZR, but had been removed by OTA, you can skip step 9) to re-ROOT your RAZR. .
Note and suggestion: DO NOT push Superuser.apk to /system/app . It is wise to INSTALL from Market or do $ adb install -r Superuser.apk. Better to remove /system/app/Superuser.apk before reinstall the Superuser.apk from Market or adb : $ adb shell 'rm /system/app/Superuser.apk'
You can remove the motofail later;
$ adb shell 'rm /data/local/motofail'
You can read run.bat to see the commands involved.
Thank you...

Hey thanks for your prompt reply..
I am getting this error when i do OTA
had to get the asia rom through the method above but i can't update any OTA!
i have downloaded the asia ota and put it on my sd.
i boot into recovery and update from zip/sd card.
all goes well until half way and i get an error.
something along the lines of "assert failed: apply_patch_check("MTD:boot:8388608:c3d17a6e41533c 813209ed51dfef327df8e1f76")
E:error in /tmp/sideload/package.zip

So i must have damaged some system files right?? Now how do i get the Fastboot files or is there any alternative as to how to go about it?

Oh I see that you're using manual. Give the auto one a try?
i tried the auto first, everything completed successfully but i still end up unrooted...
then i tried manually step by step and there was the error at step 9...
It seem the /system didn't remounted to rw(read/write) mode. Did the exploit success?
Do the motofail clean step, reboot and start again from step 1 again.
Good luck.

First make a full nandroid backup in CWMR, then on your phone navigate to mint/sdcard/clockworkmod then copy the folder of the backup you made (It should be the date of the backup by default) and transfer it to your computer. Once you transfer it to your computer open the backup folder and inside should be the system.img file.
You can also type these commands in terminal emulator to get your system.img:
Code:
su
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p14 of=/mnt/sdcard/system.img bs=4096
Then just transfer the system.img from your sdcard to your computer. Let me know if you still have questions.

You can find out your which partition your /system partition is by running the following commands either from terminal or adb shell as the root user:
Code:
ls -l /dev/block/platform/{your_platform_name_here}/by-name
For example on my Nexus 10 the platform name is "dw_mmc.0" so the command would look like:
Code:
ls -l /dev/block/platform/dw_mmc.0/by-name
To figure out your platform name first cd into the platform directory then list the contents of the platform directory to figure out what your platform name is:
Code:
cd /dev/block/platform/
ls
After you have then figured out what your platform name is you can run the command:
Code:
ls -l /dev/block/platform/{your_platform_name_here}/by-name
Once you have figured out your system partition you can dump it to your phones storage by running a command similar to:
Code:
cat /dev/block/block_of_system_partition > /mnt/sdcard/system.img
Let me know if you still have questions .
Awesome guys ! Thanks a bunch.
OK, so I have gotten the img. I've done it both ways with the dd and the cat. The image size comes up close to 1.5Gb. I know this is too large. The fastboot img file is normally in the 800-900 Mb range. Am I missing something here?

Have you installed any additional system apps or placed any other files in the system folder? Because if you have modified the /system folder contents the file size will be greater then the normal 800-900 MB file range you listed since that file size if for an unmodified completely stock /system image.
Actually not really. I had done an erase data, roll back fxz, root, update and cache/dalvik wipe. Was trying to get a somewhat clean system.img

When we come to Android 5.0 ages, we have new problems:
Method1 Using the dd we really can get the system.img, but in my 8994 device with busybox 1.23.1, it will 2.5GB fixed size, same as the system partition size.
so what I can found it works is , use sparsecoverter in this forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2749797, we can remove the sparse bytes and make it a 1.4GB around and fastboot back to devices, that works fine, NOTE, that is not from dd nandroid backup. not from who only have TWRP and CWM backups;.
Method2 Using TWRP/CWM system.ext4.win/data.ext4.win, we can use
tar -xvf /storage/sdcard1/twrp/backup/abcd/2015-03-29-09-00-00/system.ext4.win
tar -xvf /storage/sdcard1/twrp/backup/abcd/2015-03-29-09-00-00/data.ext4.win
to gotten a folder, I run this on my target device under adb root and adb shell, but it will have many errors, tar remote link .... function not implement, so I think we need a cygwin according this post, but next step since Android 4.0 should be make_ext4fs, which will need a special build to avoid Permission Denied. which I still not success to finish it.
so, if Android successful tar -xvf and make_ext4fs story, please share here, thank you very much!
any news to help me forward?

Flash boot.img

Some people might be not able to flash boot.img file using flashtool or using adb(Like me :crying: showing error root required even i have rooted and unlocked bootloader wiht cwm installed)
So, i searched for new methods but none worked.Atlast I found one THIs one
STEPS
1. Copy/move your.img file to internal sd of your phone.
2. Download and run the Terminal Emulator
3. Now, type the following commands-
after $ type
su (press enter) (terminal'll ask for superuser permission, grant it)
you'll see this
#
now type after #
dd (single space here) if=/sdcard/YOUR.img (single space here) of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p9
press enter
you'll see 'some records in some records out etc etc'
Press Home key and reboot your phone and its done :laugh::laugh:
Or you can fastboot it?

Unlocking boot loader if possible
Open a command prompt in LG_Root
Copy fastboot.exe into LG_Root folder found in the attached zip
1.) Start an ADB shell
Code:
adb.exe shell
2.) In ADB shell ask for root permission (Grant shell access via the SuperSU pop-up)
Code:
su
3.) Dump the LAF partition to sdcard (We want to be able to restore Download mode)
Code:
dd if=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/laf of=/sdcard/laf.img
4.) Remove LAF partition
Code:
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/laf
5.) To exit ADB shell, type "exit" twice in shell
6.) Store the image on our PC
Code:
adb.exe pull /sdcard/laf.img
7.) Go into download mode (It will fail due to the empty LAF partition and will fall back to fastboot)
Detect if the device is connected (Wait for any drivers to install)
Code:
fastboot.exe devices
To unlock the boot loader
Code:
fastboot.exe oem unlock
You may choose to keep fastboot or you can put LAF partition back on for download mode
Code:
fastboot.exe flash laf laf.img

Maybe your not copying the full command correctly
when you start Send_Command.exe
copy this you should have 3 files
ls -l /data/local/tmp
if they exist copy and paste
sh /data/local/tmp/lg_root.sh dummy 1 /data/local/tmp/UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip /data/local/tmp/busybox

I ran ls -l /data/local/tmp and the three files were there but when I copied and pasted sh /data/local/tmp/lg_root.sh dummy 1 /data/local/tmp/UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip /data/local/tmp/busybox it gives same output and still no root
