Phone number shortcut - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

When I first got my note2 I was able to create phone number shortcuts with the pic of the person. I am now on vramc3 and have not been able to find the create a shortcut button. Anyone know how to do do this or where the option is now?

I'm not sure if this is what you are looking for....
If you press and hold the screen, there is a shortcut arrow, click that and the next menu look for direct dial. That should take you to your contacts and as long as you have already have the persons picture in your contacts, touch the contact and the shortcut should be created.

Thanks, I wasn't sure which screen you meant. Turns out I have to go to my phone number Favorites. Long click on the person I want. At the bottom of the menu that pops up there is the arrow and, "add shortcut to home" message. If you have a pic with with the favorite number it goes with it. G

Menu buttons...

Hello forum. I have a two day old Vibrant that's behaving unusually.
I'm trying to change the two middle menu buttons. I goto applications, but when I click menu, I only get "view type" and not the option to change the middle buttons.
I also read about a fast reboot by holding the power button for 8 seconds. When I did this, it powered down and wouldn't come back up. I pulled the battery and it booted into safe mode. It had a little text flag on the bottom left that said "safe mode". I didn't even know the phone had a safe mode.
Anyhow, does anyone have any suggestions on customizing those two middle buttons?
I haven't rooted just yet. I think I may wait for Froyo.

click view type then click customizeable grid
then click menu, then edit, then long hold the app that you want to put in the number 2 spot and drag it there, long hold the app you want to use in number 3 spot and drag it there.
then click menu->save
(the next step is optional, but it bugs me not to have stuff in alphabetical order.)
click menu, then view type, then alphabetical grid
And you are done, really a round about pain in the ass way to go about changing the number 2 and number 3 spot but.....thats all we got
And next time try searching and reading the stickies, specifically this one
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=732458
go to the second post and look for "CHANGE THE DOCK BUTTONS ON TOUCHWIZ!"
Read through that entire post actually and you will find some great information.
Good luck!
Thank you very much. I searched for how to change menu buttons on the XDA App and I wasn't finding anything. This did it though and I'll read your link.thanks again.

Has anyone found an answer to this issue? I have ICS on Verizon GNex and would like to at least be able to customize the direct dial icons so I can distinguish them.
Thanks,
Steven
I use gingerbean, and bamf before that, and each time it has been my contact's contact pic with a little phone icon on the bottom corner. Stupid question, but do u have a pic selected for the contact ur trying to make a direct dial for?

I'm using SHIFTAO5P HACK3D which utilizes ADW. I just tried it out and after creating the direct dial on my home screen i simply long-pressed it, chose "edit" and tapped the icon in the edit menu. it let me choose from other icons on my phone and from pictures on my phone with an ability to crop. Hope this helps.

Dialer not going home after hangup

I'm running .211 on a razr and when I press a quick contact on the homescreen it comes up with the text messaging app in the background instead of just the homescreen also after I make a call and hangup it goes to txt app instead of the homescreen I have to press home after I hangup. Is that happening to anyone else? It seams really weird like after i hangup a call i have to press the home button again to get back to homescreen.
Bump...anyone else have this happen with a contact shortcut on there desktop?
It could happen if you are using a launcher app and have not set a default launcher.
Just a thought...
You could try using back and backing out of the messaging app and then do the routine again and see if that works.

Ya it doesn't start doing it until you start the txt app for instance if i reboot the phone and don't open the text app it doesn't do it until the text app has opened but this just doesn't seam right im just trying to see if this is how ICS is or if i need to wipe and start fresh.
Does anyone else have this happen on there phones?

It happens using the default launcher and using apex set to default im just trying to see if this is normal behavior for ICS .211.
Can someone try to put a contact shortcut on one of there homescreens and test this out for me? When you press the shortcut does the TXT app open up in the background and then when you make a call and hangup from the quick contact does it just go home or does it go back to txt app then you have to press home again to get to homescreen.
I just want to figure out if this is normal or somethings wacky on my phone.
Is this a bug? I can's see this as being normal as it is very annoying...

Extremely simple App - learn to make it myself or pay someone else?

Hi people,
I have a very specific need for a very simple app:
It should be one button only on one screen, and one textfield only on another screen.
The function of the button is to send a predefined(coded into app) SMS to the number you input in the other screen(this number should autosave).
In other words -
Screen 1: 1 big button, "ACTIVATE" (when clicked, sends SMS "activate" to number)
Screen 2: Settings screen, one box only, for putting in destination number and saving it.
I have above average general computer-knowledge and understanding, but no experience whatsoever with app-development.
Can I learn to, and write this app simply myself, say in a day or two max? Or should I just pay someone that knows what they're doing because it would take me too long to learn?
I suggest that you go on your own. It is not difficult to code such an app and learning some code isn't bad at all. You can do it in one day if you're determined enough. Good luck!
If you don't want to learn to code then there is always my app SMS Bot Widget:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.ubikapps.smswidget
It is a home screen widget only so you can't send a message from an app, only a home screen widget.

Your Widget seems to be 99% what I need..! Would it be easy for me to modify your code, to change the text and options on the settingscreen, and make the Widget just a standard picture?
Also, could I cancel the confirmation part, just have the text sent in background instead of the confirm-to-send?
Edit: What I really need is a cross between your widget and this app in its simplest form:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...ult#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDEsIm51LmZkcC5TbXNfUkMiXQ..
Questions should be asked in Q&A forums, not Development forums.
Thread moved.
OK, so I started trying out myself, using MIT AppInventor. I've gotten pretty far, all I'm missing is for the app to store what's put in the "PhoneNumber"-textbox. How do i make the app save the number for later, also when app is restarted?
Last thing, when I use a picture for button, how do i get it to be "shaded" when pressed? you know, so you know when your pressing it.
What am I missing to get these features?

OK, so I've found the TinyDB, and put in the "store value" block, however I don't know where to put the "retrieve value" to get it to retrieve as soon as app is opened.. any help?

My app isn't open source yet but I might put it on github or something in the future.

How to get back to previous screen

Brand new to my V60.. For instance, when trying to log in to a bank, because it's a new device they send a code to messaging to make sure it's really me. When I leave the screen to retrieve the code, I can't figure out how to get back to the same screen I left to enter the code. It's very frustrating!!

I was using gesture, and didn't have the buttons visible. Now that I've had some time to play with my phone, I got that figured out!! Happy New Year. Thank you for your reply...

a suggestion... before you load your browser or bank app, open the message app in Pop-Up mode and then you can view messages in a tiny window while still using your banking app and typing the code.
