increase ram galaxy s3 - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello and good evening to all, sorry for my English but I am a boy of Italy, I wanted to ask if there is a way to increase also virtually the ram of my s3 for when launching games like dead space, asphalt 7, need for speed etc..
I have a 32 gb sd card class 10 I do not know if it can be dangerous to create swap partitions for cpu.In waiting for your response I offer you my greetings.

you want more free ram? close the background apps using task killers like greenify(root required). ram usage depends on how you use the phone.

use a kernel with zram support such as Boeffla kernel. It's like a virtual memory thingy. More info on the thread itself.

ok guys I would not change rom, if I installassi only greenfy improvements?
By creating the swap file or not you have any improvements? Some people recommended to create swap file because of too many reads and writes to the sd which would be submitted.

[06 Nov 2011][SD] NexusHD2-Gingerbread V3.2a (GWK74)(Android 2.3.7)[tytung_r13]

Hi All,
This SD build is hiding away in the NAND section! There's a link to it in the 1st post. Try it, it's a solid vanilla Android Gingerbread port for our Leo. It may be a month old but I think it's still a brilliant build.

Merry Christmas
Hello,
Yes it's a great version stable and smooth.
Also no battery drain
But no possibility ask question. For example the persons who call have an echo.
Thanks for share

I'm not experiencing the echo you mention. Have you tried posting in the original NAND thread (or is that too obvious and shouldn't be said ) ?

No it may not be obvious, I can be a bad parameter, I'm not very good lolll

Have a nice day.
Camcorder video recording brevity
I've been using sd rom builds since Aug 2010. The NexusHD sd build of Nov6 2011 has been the best I'd used hitherto, for example it had practically ZERO battery drain when going to bed at night and, setting at flight mode, only 2-3percent drop if on 2g only.
It was also the first build I used that recorded video at 720p. The videos were beautiful. However, it is unable to record (viewable) videos for longer than 10 - 16 min (it varies). Matching the size of the video (roughly at the time the recording begins to go wrong) approximates the size of the free RAM (usually btw 200 - 280mb), at least according to my observations. I got similar results with all the MIUI builds released within the last 2 weeks (Jaguaralani, MccM, etc).
This makes me think that the kernel arranges things such that video data is continually stacked in the RAM and is only placed in the storage medium when recording is signalled as complete (instead of doing so during the very process of streaming in the video data so as to free up the RAM and enable only the size of the destination storage medium - sd card or internal memory - to be the limiting factor).
Since I always want to have windows mobile as a bootable option in case of emergency access to files (- I use my hd2 for all my important stuff and am not always with my laptop) NAND builds are out of the question for me. However, the dorimanx kernel was said to solve this problem (and others) when used to replace the tytung kernel in the NexusHD NAND build in post 8716 on this page==> http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...05060&page=872.
So I have two requests: 1) Could an equivalent kernel for sd builds be pointed out to me? 2) How does one replace one kernel with another in an sd build?
Thanks a lot!!!
Why do I get pretty high battery drain using this v3.2a?
How can I troubleshoot what process is actually using the power?
I loaded this SD version to my HD2 and like it very much - except that I'm getting the dreaded SOD (sleep of death). This is a plain vanilla HD2, using the stock SD card (SanDisk class 2?)
Anyone know a fix? If the problem is the slow SD card, would a NAND install solve it?

Samsung Galaxy S2 GT - I9100

Hello,
I have this Samsung Galaxy S2 GT - I9100, which I originally rooted when it had Gingerbread 2.3.4, then using Mobile Odin I flashed it ICS 4.0.3, XXPLQ. Everything went smooth. Until a few hours later when a few apps started disappearing. 12 total. I tried restoring them with titanium backup (from a backup I had done before flashing ICS) but it won't let me do it. I can't reinstall the apps from Google Play either.
Any ideas on what should I do?
Please explain with as much detail as possible. I'm still new to the flashing roms world
Thanks,

hi and welcome to the forum.
to improve the chance of getting good answers, you should change the thread title to something like "disappearing apps after ics update" or something similar. just stating the device's name is redundant, as you are in a section of the forum, which deals exclusively with that model.
also, questions go in the q&a section, but don't worry, i reported it to be moved.
also, you should post, what specific apps you are talking about and of what kind they are, are they free or paid, are they generally available on the play store for your country? have you checked the play store from a pc to look for those apps? ...and so on. being really specific makes it way easier to help.
Hello, you are correct, i'm sorry for the title and lack of more info. I can't edit the thread title so, if you or any other moderator can do so, feel free to do it.
About my problem, I could not give more details because there was no much relevant info to give. There were 12 apps total that suddenly disappeared after flashing. Among those were:
2 games from Game Insight (Airport City and My Country)
Mobile Odin
Akdiko Reader
Mantano Free Reader
Complete Edition UEFA.com
Amazon.com Android App
Virtual City playground
Angry Birds Space Premium
and a couple more I can't recall
I didn't see anything in common among those apps, except the error was that it couldn't install on usb storage or sd card.
An hour ago, a friend of mine pointed out to me that I had a problem that I should look for the sd fix, and directed me to download CF Root 5.4 (I used CF Root 5.3 to root the phone after flashing the firmware).
Apparently there is a bug with 5.3 that caused this on some games and apps (no idea why). So, I flashed the new kernel root and all is well, I was able to restore the apps and data with Titanium.
I guess this same bug caused these apps to "vanish" in the first place.
Thanks for trying to help and sorry I failed stating my problem better. I hope now that I explained my issue and solution helps others.
If a any mod read this, please change the thread title accordingly.
Best regards,
formatting your phone is the best idea

[Q] How to keep/force app alive in background ?

Hello there !
As a first time user of Android coming from an iPhone 4 with iOS 5.x I was amazed by the SGS III that I own.
So far, so good.
However I have a huge issue that is really starting to get on my nerve : why the hell I cannot keep my apps running in the background ?
I had friends trying to convince me to go to android, saying how it's rocking, how it's multitasking is awesome ... WHAT MULTITASKING ?
Many of you may know, but iOS finally brought multitasking with iOS 4, something people said that was really lacking to iOS when Android had it for a long time - let me laugh.
Well, let's be honest. Yes there is some sort of multitasking thanks to services that are not killed by the system, but I do not use them, I only need them to perform to do wahtever they are supposed to do.
And also between your recently launched apps as long as you keep switching between them in a very short amount of time.
And that is all.
So iOS 4 brought multitasking on a phone with only 256Mb of RAM (iPhone 4) and with only that much, I managed to keep running three games : Lords & Knights MMO, Wolrd War and iMob. They are not 3D games so they do not use too much RAM as would do a 3D game such as NOVA. And, the cool stuff is that the multitasking on iOS keep the apps as long as there is free RAM (I even managed to go as down as 17Mb, and then the system killed some (not all !) of my apps !)
That was really nice. Before iOS 4, I had to relaunch them each time a notification brought me back to them (they are internet dependant games). And with iOS 4 and then 5 and today 6, I can enjoy switching between them without lag, without relaunching as long there is free RAM.
With android, I CANNOT DO SUCH ACTIONS. Even if ICS is nice, fast on the SGS III, when it comes to multitasking I feel like I have been brought back to iOS3 on my iPhone 3 and 3Gs (thank God, SGS III is fast enough to relaunch the apps in not time, but stil...)
As I said, I launch my game, go back to home screen, lock the phone, unlock it minutes after and the games are gone. ALL OF THEM.
Here is what I found out in order to solve this situation :
- based on the kernel version and model, android will keep killing apps that are not services after a few minutes in the background ;
- my games that I want to keep running do not offer the possibility to keep them alive in the background ;
- I tried many apps (ram manager pro, auto memory etc...) none of them helpt me although they did offer features that would be the answer I as been looking for.
- I heard scripts would solve this situation, but I dot not know any of them.
So what is next ?
It is simple : I would like to have an app, or a tweak or script or anything else, but easy to use, that will help me keeping some of my apps alive in the background.
Thanks to anyone who could help me out with this.
PS: I have an international SGS III wit CM 9 running on it.
CM Version is : 9-20120909-NIGHTLY-i9300
Kernel version is : 3.0.15-CM-g026d5ce [email protected] #1
Build version is : cm:i9300-userdebug 4.04 IMM76L eng. .20120909.083444 test-keys
Android version is : 4.0.4

Lost and breaking rules by bumping posts .
jje
I am sorry. I did not really know that I was "bumping" my thread when it was on second page.
Who comes check on second page to answer, anyway ? I think most people do not ... unless people here are very generous ! ^^
If it is the rule, I will let go my thread further back in this forum in hope I will get an answer somehow to a matter that has been troubling me for months.
It can not be done as far as I know.
A few hacks/apps try to lower the oom value of apps, but it only last for a limited timeperiod.

Is this some sort of a joke ? Are you saying that even though I have plenty of free RAM I cannot use them to run apps in the background ?
This is ridiculous to say the least. Where is the multi-tasking ?
Anyway, thanks for replying.

An extension of the build.prop tricks

Hi folks,I hope I'm in the right forum for this (otherwise could a moderator move this topic ? thanks).
I was thinking of the well-known build.prop trick to force the home launcher into RAM :
ro.HOME_APP_ADJ=1
I was wondering if the same trick could be used to force other apps into RAM. I'm no expert, but assuming the command is ro.[NAMEOFTHEAPP_APP]_ADJ=1 , we could have for example :
# Messages app :
ro.CONVERSATIONS_APP_ADJ=1
# Phonebook app :
ro.PHONEBOOK_APP_ADJ=1
# Telephone app :
???
I have been told this trick wouldn't be necessary because these 3 apps are auto-reloaded into RAM. Well, all I know is that within my GB Arc S, these 3 apps are fast after a reboot, and become very sluggish some time after. I guess they wouldn't if they were really forced to remain into RAM !
Sure, in case of a lack of RAM, other apps would become slow. But I'd still prefer if the three apps that I use most were fast and the other ones were slow, than the other way around.
Could you please help me with these commands ? Thank you.
no possible in any way... + that "hack" is old and does not work anymore (ICS+)
That "hack" works under GB, which is great since I'm running GB right now and I don't intend to go ICS or JB for the moment.
This being said, I'd appreciate if you'd explain why under GB it isn't "possible in any way" for the above-mentioned apps, while it's possible for the Home launcher. Just trying to learn something here. Thanks.
(thanks to Sgt. Slaughter for moving the topic to the right section)
Hey folks, would it be possible to get a decent answer ? I think my above question is clear enough and deserves it for those like me who run GB...
Thanks again !

With that attitude you won't get anywhere, you can't just come here, click your fingers, and people jump to your service.
For a start your initial post is virtually incomprehensible, so maybe start by trying to clarify what your problem is

maybe i m newbie here but when i see some1 i can help i help them first i did open in the wrong section people say nothin but go to help section and in here nothin usefull i m not angry couz i m not responded i m angry couz people make responses that doesnt help my problem is simple apps are restating after a while they are not crashing they just restarts and i m thinking its couz of ram-rom management.
the reason nexus 4 will have better multitasking will be because its vanilla so has no bloatware and also it has 2 gb of ram where sgs3 has 1. most roms have some sort of multitasking fix and scripts to help free ram if thats what your asking. for example on the rom i use i have 200mb free most of the time.
