[Q] Why is CyanogenMod cm-10.2-20130814-NIGHTLY-quincyatt the only 10.2? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

I am using CyanogenMod's cm-10.2-20130814-NIGHTLY-quincyatt on my Note and I am wondering why it was the only 10.2 nightly offered? There seems to be continued development and releases of the 10.1 series of ROM's. What have I missed here? I runs pretty good on my phone I have some issues with the screen coming on from sleeping or just being turned off (the screen not the phone) and some occasional random reboots. I am excited to see the 10.2 line progress but I guess I'm just confused as to why there was only one nightly released and the 10.1's continue. Anyone have any thoughts or insight? Thanks.

Between 3 kids a wife and working 6 days a week, I'm lucky I have time to flash a ROM let alone build my own. :silly:

Dude how the hell am I not being considerate I asked a simple freaking question and you are acting like I'm slamming someone for something. I never said or tried to do any such thing. I merely asked a question. If you have nothing decent or useful to add move along and stop trying to be a PITA. I've been on this site for many years and do far more reading than posting and have always been thankful and gracious. I'm 43 not some 16 year old newb that hasn't got a clue. Go find one of them the screw with!

I am sorry.

Apology accepted.

What are you running now? There are some good ROMs you can try. There are already 4.3 ROMs out.

I'm using the above mentioned ROM. I have used CyanogenMod since the 7.0 releases and it always seemed like when they released a new version nightly, the only progressed with the new version for nightly release. The stable release is a different story. I actually read this on their forum just yesterday I think.

Yes because there always seems to be more people here. I also asked the question on the CyanogenMod forums as well as their Google Plus page.

I have been curious about that too. Never seen that before out of CM, however, I have a Nexus 7 3G, and there is no 4.3 CM for it either, so don't feel left out.

I think nightly roms are experimental where they update an issue or a problem gets fix after they get a log cat...they are not official as of yet.I think that's what they mean by nightly...if u try the new pacman 4.3 that one says OFFICIAL..im a tmo user so I can't flash it yet...hopefully a dev can get us a 4.3 official rom on my end.... Hope what I wrote helps...

I'm running the 10.2 nightly from 8/14 as well, and have been pretty happy with it (HUGE thanks to the developers, so much better than the crap stock ROM I was running, which Samsung/AT&T only updated once over a year ago). This one is 4.3, which is very nice, and pretty much the same as the CM 10.2 (JB 4.3) I'm running on my ASUS TF700T tablet. But, I was also curious about if/when any new nightlies might be released in this 10.2 line. I'm not complaining at all, just curious, since there are a few buggy things (mainly what was mentioned by the OP, often doesn't wake up on first try, and some random reboots).

They said this device is no longer supported for now

Ok, that makes sense, it is a pretty old device. I'm glad they put out the 10.2 build first though, since it is working pretty well with the exception of a few minor issues (at least for me).

No.
A nightly can be anything from bug fixes to adding in a completely new feature to try. Once those get worked out it moves up the release stability chain.
Official means whatever build, nightly, release candidate, stable release was compiled by a member of the dev team.
Unofficial is someone taking their (whatever Rom dev team it may be) git source and compiling a build themselves.

Thanks. I guess I wanted to stick to what I could get "officially" via the CM site, but maybe I'll check these out.

That's understandable.
The builds are identical though using the same github source that the cm build servers do.
You can set it up yourself and build too. The instructions are in the cm wiki for quincyatt.

[Q] Official CM9

Is the OG Atrix ever going to get an official CM9 release candidate or nightly? I've noticed the CM Team has released RC1 for many phones, and the Atrix was not on the list. I just want to know if I will ever get my hands on an official CM9 build instead of having to use a port. Thanks for the help.

The Atrix will likely not get an official CM9 build until/unless ICS for the Atrix (containing the necessary binary drivers, which are proprietary) is released. The unofficial ports have to make do without them, cannibalizing code and parts from other phones in order to make it work, which is why they still have stability issues (though they do work most of the time). When ICS is released (yes, I said when; unlike others, I have faith that it will be), we'll likely see a flurry of CM9 development from the Atrix Dev Team.
OK cool. I've read that it's gonna be Q3. Which is sometime between now and September, correct?

cm9 update
I recently flashed my first rom with cm9 6.0.9.1. I am very pleased with the look, feel and functionality of this ROM. Congrats to jokersax and all who had a hand in this. As I am new at this I have one question. If I try to upgrade to 0.7.0.0 will I need to wipe or can I just flash it. I installed the gapps separately and did not wipe and it worked fine. I do remember reading somewhere during my search for knowledge on this subject that for small updates you don't need to wipe. Not sure how reliable tha info is. Just want to make sure before I end up with a paper weight.

Funny....

Jellybean Shortage?

I am considering the EVO LTE when I upgrade in September, but one thing that is holding me back is the lack of CM or stock roms. I know there is one that is almost at daily driver status, but in the EVO 4G section there are several jellybean roms. Is this due to some source code HTC or Sprint is not releasing yet? If there were more community support, I would jump on this phone, but this issue is a serious blow. If anyone could explain this, many thanks.
Cm10 is practically fully working for our phone thanks to kushdeck... You have to connect to irc for the downloads... The irc link is in the cm9 forum somewhere....

I'm sure you meant something else, but there are a BOATLOAD of "stock ROMs" for this phone. If you mean AOSP, then no, there aren't a lot yet. I'm told that due to a lack of kernel source. However, there is CM10 that is pretty much done. Everything mostly works. Video, camera, SMS, MMS, audio, calls, gallery, WiFi, 3G, 4G, NFC, Bluetooth, Google Now.... It's ready to go. Get this phone and stop worrying about that. I would never dream of going back to the OG EVO. It's a rock and the screen looks archaic to me now. I guarantee CM10 on this thing looks WAAAAAY better than it does on the OG EVO.

Once cm10 is officially released youll start to see AOKP and MIUI
BTW, we're officially supported for cm10, expect builds from the CM team soon.
When did we get official support? The sensation seemed to be the only official supported HTC device last time I checked... It was quite awhile ago that I looked into it though... Glad to see we're getting official support though... Even after all the hard work kushdeck and his team have put into it...

Yep, that's the way it works. From what I've gathered, they want everything to be working for the most part because the CM team doesn't want to focus on fixing everything. They support so many devices that they can't spend their time solving all of the problems that pop up. Now that we have it working they can just release builds for us.

If you aren't prepared to do very minimal reading and to exert a little effort, then you'll just have to wait until Deck is ready to share the builds with the public.
Sorry if I came across as abrasive or ungrateful. I didn't mean to come across like that.
I just find it odd that there is no thread to discuss cm10 and that in turn causes a lot of other threads to go off topic because nobody has a central place to discuss what everybody is discussing.
Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2
It isn't ready. You will see people say it is a daily driver because they want AOSP really bad or whatever. Once kush decides it is good enough to be a daily driver you will see a thread pop up. Until then it is an Alpha or Beta or whatever you want to call it and you need to seek it out.

I would have to say no; otherwise it would have been done by now. Kernels are incompatible, can't use an ICS kernel with JB and vice versa. Pretty sure the kernel is the only hold up for us getting a whole bunch of new ROMs.

What he meant is that the Nexus 4's kernel is incompatible. We have a booting JB kernel for the Korean leaks that works fine. Problem is, we don't have source yet, so devs are limited in the resources for either porting the Nexus 4 kernel, or building JB roms until we have source, then it will be a lot easier.
And basically that won't happen until we get JB for stock? Damn all these terms are so confusing lol

Nope. Here. So right now we have the Korean JB leaks, and they boot. Devs can try using that kernel and what else we have to build JB, but that is hard. We can also try and port the Nexus 4 stuff, but once the source for Korean JB comes out we can work on JB and build it much easier. We don't actually need JB on our phones, or any phone, just JB source from Korea, US, or whatever comes first.

Like nygfan said above me, we could get the update and still not have the source. The source is the raw, unencrypted file(s) that the kernel was built from. Without that, it is tough to do much with the kernel because we can't read it.
(somebody correct me if I am wrong, that is how I have always understood it.)
So here's a questions I've been thinking about. I want to root and install Nocturnal so I can get de-bloated, Google Now, etc. However, I don't want to be stuck on ICS if JB is officially released in the U.S. prior to a CM or other JB based custom ROM (I know sometimes allowing an OTA can mess up your root, or at least I think I know that). So here's the question: Should I go ahead and root / install Nocturnal? Or is there a possibility that we will get a JB OTA prior to a custom development? Grassy Ass!

I would suggest rooting.
You can enjoy all there is for now in Noc and we do not know when the JB update is coming out.
Any OTA's will probably break root, but usually a dev can take it and root it before it is installed and make a .zip.
Most likely we will actually see JB sooner on rooted devices than stock ones (assuming there is a leak that will work on ours).
If the OTA DOES come out sooner, I give it a week before a .zip is posted... and that seems too long to me.

Right, without kernel source it's just basically changing values based on guesses with a few bricked devices in between. We could probably get JB without JB software source if we just had a good JB kernel for our device. We could always port JB, much harder to port a kernel.

[Q] Plans for 4.4 Kit Kat?

Hi All. I'm wondering if, realistically speaking, we can expect to have Android 4.4 on the Atrix 4G? From what I understand, even the 4.3 port is not yet stable enough to be a daily driver, so perhaps it is unrealistic to expect 4.4 to come.
+1

All development is being put into the kernel at the moment. krystian has stated that the 3.1.10 kernel should be able to run 4.4, however if not, he'll work on revising the kernel to match the Nexus kernel (I think he said it was at 3.4?) For us, CM10.1 (4.2) is the most stable current Android version. Cyanogenmod even says it on their page/wiki, 4.3 is at the preview stage, meaning its not at the same stage as all previous versions. That's why it is not stable enough to be a daily driver. Epinter just resurfaced and released an updated CM10.1 to reflect the changes in 10.1.3. He stated in his thread, since the updated release, that he will give CM11 (4.4) a shot. He's not making any promises besides saying that he will attempt to build.

Does Motorola's recent commitment to bringing kitkat to a few older devices help ROM builders in their efforts?
(can't post links yet, google 'motorola kitkat older devices' for details)
Does this mean it might be possible to port the changes to the Atrix 4G?
If had been a good 4.0 version...
I have hope to version 4.3:fingers-crossed:
Nah, drop your hopes right here, before they go bigger, it is not going to happen, or I start to using again my motorola Rokr e2
Hit the damn thanks button instead!

I'm gonna go off topic if there was one but all you moto fans check out the moto g. Looks very promising for the price
And I will continue the offtopic by saying I'm waiting to see how high the carriers here will put it... probably as high as a galaxy s3 mini ($3500, arround u$s500).
Anyway, it seems too much for the price
Hit the damn thanks button instead!
