Switching to the HTC One (or any smaller phone) - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

I've been slowly making the switch from my Verizon Note 2 to the HTC One on T-Mobile and I've quickly learned a few things.
1. That initial realization that the Note just can't be compared to any other standard sizes phone. There is no way I could say either the One or the Note is better just because they were designed for two completely different ways of use. But the only thing I'm going to miss from Samsung is the multi-window feature. I'll live without the pen.
2. Removable storage. there was something really convenient about being able to swap SD cards depending on my day. I have a music card and a video card that I would switch out if I was going to work or just vegging on the couch while beaming videos to the tv.
I've seen many times people talking about switching phones and almost immediately coming back to the Note, but there's a more specific switch I had to make in my daily routine to make me not want to come running back. I mean, the One is in no way a small phone, but when set next to the Note, it looks like a 4.3 inch phone. That's where I'm having to make the switch. The fact the my phone needs to be a phone is where the One becomes a better fit for me.
TLDR Peace yall. I'm moving to the HTC One.

You'll be back. No worries, we'll welcome you as soon as you figure out just how productive that massive screen is.
No, it's not a perfect phone. However I've adapted a few minor things in my life to accommodate the Note 2, and I am all the more productive for it.

Yeah, HTC, and Verizon did such a good job keeping the rezound, and the thunderbolt up to date. I hope that this works out for you. I will say that Ihave htc phones, and this one, and the signal isn't that much better. Plus I have never had this phone go into bacon mode like my 6 rezounds.
Today, young ,men on acid realize that all matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, we are all one consciences sharing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are just imaginations of ourselves And now to the weather.....

Sounded like he was being sarcastic. The rezound took forever to be updated to ics. I had it months before Verizon updated it. I sold the phone before it got that update. Lol I love HTC but the Note owns the One in real world use. But to each their own

I left Verizon in April this year and made that stupid decision to try tmobile again. In fact I too had the HTC one. I loved the phone, so smooth. I just couldn't live with spotty coverage and no signal at my office. I came back to Verizon this month and have the note 2. Everyone tells me that I sound so much clearer and louder than how I sounded on the HTC one. Plus my husband HATED when I was on blue tooth with the HTC one, he said it sounded like I was talking behind a grinder or a blender with rocks in it. Not the case with the note2, very clear. Plus the final straw was not receiving text messages and missing dozens of calls even with a signal. You will be back to Verizon, trust me it's worth every penny!
Sent from my Verizon Galaxy Note II

Two things, both personal opinions:
1. HTC sucks
2. Tmob sucks more than HTC.

The HTC one actually performs very well, just not sure if every HTC one is plagued with poor sound quality with calls. Since I got the note 2 I can't see how I survived with anything smaller. Great screen, love the multi-task feature and the s pen. And yes, t-mobile does suck.

Samsung GS3 LCD/Digitizer shattered. Thinking about a DNA.

So I had my GS3 for about 3 months before it experienced a 2 foot drop shattering not just the digitizer but the LCD as well. The phone was a good phone, I originally had an Incredible, moved up to the Rezound (which I loved) and then the GS3. What I have learned about Samsung is that the build quality isn't as solid as HTC's (from my experiences). I was thinking about going back to HTC with the DNA.
I just wanted some input from people who own the phone and what their thoughts are about it. Practicality, Functionality, BATTERY LIFE (very important to me) and etc.
Any comments, concerns or suggestion would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you in advance

For all intensive purposes the battery life is the same, if not slightly better than the s3.
And functionality and practicality is determined by you, we can't answer it for you.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
Battery life, for me, is leaps and bounds above my s3. I NEVER got 5 hours of screen time on the s3.
Please don't touch my "Thanks" button, it doesn't like you...
Hmm. I am surprised to hear that about the battery life. I haven't read too much about the development of the DNA, is there the whole S-On or S-Off thing that the Rez had? haha
Do you guys notice a difference with the Quad core setup? GS3's dual was very quick and responsive.
Our phone is s on for the time being unless you want to send it to someone and have it opened up. But it really doesn't matter. Only things it changes is that we can't change the splash screen and radios and we have to use an app to flash kernels, besides that it is fine.
And it isn't any smoother per say, but i have seen the s3 get laggy every once in a while, that doesn't happen on the DNA. And apps definitely open faster on the DNA. And very intensive games run better.

I have the S3 and DNA and the battery life is virtually identical for me. Get about 4 hours screen time on both and about 15 hours with a full charge. I have the quad core S3 (international version) and the difference in performance is noticeable. On my S3 (which has 1gb of Ram) I would get lots of redraws on the home screen. Sure custom Rom's/kernels helped but did not totally resolve them. On the DNA I see no redraws or lag. Overall I enjoy the experience of the DNA more than I do my S3 so unless I am going on a long trip, my S3 stays in my desk drawer.
thank you guys for the replies. My main concern is S-Off, I know on the rezzy it made a huge difference (way easier to flash kernels/roms and etc.) Hopefully it isn't as complicated here with S-On. And I'm glad to hear about the battery life. I will most probably be purchasing one soon.
Definitely going to invest in good case.
***EDIT
only thing I am concerned about is not having an SD card slot. -__-
With s on you flash roms like any other phone, and kernels you use an app called flash image gui to flash the boot.img then you just flash the modules in recovery.

Lol if battery life is a concern you are definitely looking at the wrong phone. If anyone tells you different they are in denial. Htc, along with every reviewer on the net about the Dna have all acknowledged the poor performance of the battery.
If you are looking for the best phone out, the note 2 absolutely destroys the DNA. The only thing the dna has over the note 2 is screen resolution.... on paper lol. The note 2 screen is amazing. Honestly just grab one and take a look. Add in the amazing software ( split screen, pop up browser, pop up note and pop up movie player that can all be on the screen at the same time), spen, redonkulous battery life, sd card slot, ability to replace battery and amazing support and you have greatest phone on the market. Hope this helps!

Lol its funny that your phone seems to be the anomaly. Everyone, including HTC THEMSELVES, have acknowledged the poor battery performance. Just look at the size of your battery vs. The amount of pixels the dna is pushing. Do the math man there is reason everyone ( except for a few in denial dna owners) has pointed to the battery peeformance. Living in denial my friend. If you like your dna, kudos to you. Enjoy carrying that phone charger around all day.
If the only bad thing you can say about the note 2 is the size thats a personal thing. Im 5 11 and this phone fits in my hand and pocket beautifully. My girlfriend is 5 5 and she has no problem what so ever with the note. That speaks dividends to how great the note is if the only bad thing you can say about it is the size. Note 2 ftw

Umm....no. are you serious? Look at the polls around net of touchwiz vs. Sense vs. stock. Most people prefer stock, then touchwiz and lastly sense. One of the biggest drawbacks of sense is the recent app drawer. Its beyond puzzling. Why would take up entire screen to see recent apps, including cutting away the app drawer, pull down menu and home screen? Very inefficient.

Thinking about switching from S4 have a few questions

Ok so I'm thinking of switching from my S4 to the DNA. I have a few questions, also I'm rooted on the s4.
1) how is the storage on the DNA, with root, like holding roms and the back ups?
2) can you view emojis on Facebook and instagram without root or do you have to be running a ROM?
3) what kinda photo modes are there? S4 has burst, sport, and a lot more
4) how's the battery life?
5)what's the biggest complaint about the DNA

DNA gets a tad more space to us with root battery life is great with uv and oc depending if you know how far the phone can go.
My biggest complain was the colors were not as good compared to other phones but now with the crpalalmer and baeups kernals have it so it looks great. Now if you are a flashaholic there's not as much as Samsung but the good thing is that there are a lot more roms then when I got the phone 6 months ago

1.) Storage is so-so. If you can stream most of your music and stuff you'll be fine. I was carrying around alot of music and stuff on my phone and that just wasn't cutting it. So you need to be selective about what you keep stored on the phone. The phone will work with USB-OTG cables though so keep that in mind.
2.) I'm not sure about the emojis.
3.) The phone has burst with best shot. It'll just pick out the best shot out of the burst of pictures. The burst feature is also extremely fast. Much faster then my Sony digital camera.
4.) Battery life is excellent. Expect 3 hours of screen life. If you use 3 hours of screen life as soon as you pull it off the charger it's gonna die. If you use 3 hours of screen life over the course of 18 hours it'll die then.
5.) The biggest complaint initially was that we didn't have s-off/root for the DNA when I first came over. Now that we do and we have many roms to choose from it's not that big of a deal. The phone is really awesome and well worth it. I wouldn't say it's an upgrade from the S4 but I think it can trade blows with the S4. As mentioned above the colors with the new kernels are much better and the screen is just magnificent. The only other complaint I have about the DNA is that it isn't the One.
Thanks guys. I'm still debating on it. I've always loved HTC. I've had the inc1, inc2, rezound so I'm thinking I'd like to have this one too. Just wish it had a 32gb edition.
And the emojis are the little android characters like smilies.
Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk 2
Have the s4 also but definitely prefer using my DNA. For me storage isn't a problem. With the DNA I get a anywhere from 3.5 to a little more than 4 hours screen on time with the s4 easily 6 hours. Biggest complaint? Just wished HTC had gone a bit bigger on the battery but that still doesn't stop me from choosing to use it over the s4. The feel of this beauty in hand just craps on the s4.

I think the thing I like best about the DNA vs. the S4 is the fully unlockable bootloader. The S4 does not have this. There is the bootloader bypass method, but no true unlock. And Samsungs latest kernels block root on a kernel level, so I could see development on the non-GPE S4 drying up all of a sudden.
I also like the fact that the DNA is fully gsm unlocked.
Thanks guys. I'm really considering it. I was messing with my old rezound and it made me miss HTC. I'm stuck between trading for a DNA or waiting for Verizon to drop the HTC one.

Honestly the dna is an incredible device but it is not the one. If I were you I would go for the newer one then the dna (boom sound, 4.7 instead of 5 inch screen, and it's freaking made of metal) if you choose the dna it will not disappoint by any means though.

I moved from the HTC Aria to the Samsung Captivate, S2, and S3. I love the HTC One. There are little things like zoom that I don't like, but overall I'm pleased.
To be honest, I probably would have went to the S4, but the physical home button on the S3 turned me away.
They are both great phones and you should be happy either way you go.

I had a galaxy s2 and and galaxy note 1. I loved them both and they did their job nicely.... But.... I just never like the build quality, plastic just doesn't do it for me. I found myself going back to my old HTC inspire all the time just because I like the feel of the aluminium. I caught back and forth between the s4 and the one. I choose the one for a few reasons: the body is awesome, the screen is insane, feels amazing in your hand. I hate buttons, I lactually like the HTC setup of home and back only. The s4 cool features I realized I would never use, only to show off with haha. And most of all for me, the camera on the one in low light is freaking amazing!! I live were there's no sun, so this is a big deal for me. Hope this helps, and go ahead and ask any questions or concerns, I am well experienced in both phones.

Lol I believe everyone had to go through the tough decision between the HTC One and the S4. I sure did...I stayed at BestBuy for about an Hour before I walked out with the One. The phone is incredibly smooth out of the box, very snappy and the screen is beautiful (accurate). The battery is good but it is no Note 2. I guess HTC kept a 2300mAh battery to keep the phone thin. You won't feel any creeks when you hold or squeeze the device unlike the S4. No doubts at all. I also came from the Old Galaxy Note and now, I'm missing the large display. I don't like how the Note 3 looks so I'm waiting for the HTC One Max!

Loved the audio and metal frame of the One, but no removable battery and no MicroSD. I think the S4 runs a lot more smoothly, and has more flexibility with the SD, but rear speaker makes sound quallity ridiculous. Also my biggest complaint right now with Samsung is the MF3 update that locked down the bootloader (aka no custom ROMs). HTC gives you instructions on their website to unlock the bootloader (unless something has changed since I had my One). Albeit I'm still preferring the S4.

I'm not sure how you figure the s4 is smoother. It's definitely got lag and it's choppy. The one does not lag and it's not choppy. I've had both and the one is far better in transitions and feel.
You are right about not having removable battery or sd card. I do miss those from my galaxy devices. That and the button placement are my only complaints with the one.

The One feels much smoother than the S4. Not saying the S4 is slow...but it doesn't feel as snappy as the One. Maybe because all those touchwiz features are memory hoggers.

I found the OS sluggish on the One. I do have to specify I never had the stock rom though. When I got the phone it had been rooted and flashed, although I had installed a rom that was supposedly "stock" with just upgraded kernel. Maybe I didn't get the same experience as you because of that.
Also I forgot to mention the lack of a home button. Ridiculous. I tried the logo2home mod but that's still IMO a major design flaw of the One.

Upgrade to G2 over note 2

Thats what i am thinking about doing what do you guys think?
It seems like there are a few concerns. first a slightly smaller screen.... But i might be ok with that. i have a nexus 7 LTE if i want a bigger screen.
No sd card.... its a concern but i never use that much space anyways.
None removable battery. Maybe my biggest issue. as i have a 6400 and a 9300 batter for my note 2. I dont use them all the time but they are nice to have.
My biggest reason to get a new phone is the better camara. i have a 19 month old at home and my favorite thing to do is take pictures. The cpu upgrade would be sweet also.
*EDIT*
if this patch locked the bootloader i am leaving verizon
This question may have been asked already but I made the exact change and I could not be happier. Don't get me wrong I loved the Note 2 and was waiting for the 3 and then this phone came out. It basically has similar internals except for the ram, removable battery and sd slot. All of which are for personal preference.
As far as real life this phone easily makes the day for me. To me the camera is great. It is already rooted. With the verizon coupon I got it for $140 over the Internet. You really can't go wrong. Just my 2 cents.

Since you had the note 2 like me, can u easily use the g2 one handed now?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I can use it with ease. My wife has the S4 and I did not want to get that. The G2 works great with one handed operation.

Coming from a note 2 and lumia 928. Sold them both. The G2 (imo) destroys them both. (Imo) I dint have ANY of the issues I see must complaints about here on the boards. It keeps getting better every day.

Ex-Note 2 and HTC One user here. Got the G2 and couldn't be happier. The only reason you should stick with the Note 2 (or get the Note 3) is if you use the stylus a lot. The G2's smaller screen is not an issue because it's a higher resolution and just looks awesome. It's 4:13PM right now...I streamed about 3 hours worth of music using LTE through Google Play to my bluetooth headphones, studied my PDF textbook for about 30 minutes, and did about 30 minutes of web browsing and my G2 is only down to 84%. Best battery life I've ever had in a phone :good:
I might be getting a G2 too
ex note 2 user here, my friend is asking me every day to sell it to him, i may let it down when the G2 hit our local stores.

Best phone I have owned.

Just came from the Nexus 5 (and I loved it too... just have wanted something that felt solid, for years).
I love this phone... have had it for ~3 hours.
Good day
I agree. Very nice speakers, screen, build quality. And best of all....Unlocked boot loader!!!

Says the guy using a Note 3! Ha!
I agree. I'm very impressed with this phone overall. Even the photo quality is much better than I expected and is seriously being downplayed in all the reviews. I wish we had r/w access to the file system, but I can accomplish most of what I need to with an unlocked bootloader and root, so I'm content.
Yeah its a kickass phone. Much more premium than my n5. Also much better designed than the s5 or note 3.
Agreed. I'm very happy with it.

Agreed. Coming from the m7 I knew what I was getting into. They improved on the great device from last year.

Just spent my first full day with the device and I am blown away. The hardware is excellent. Feels great in my hand without a case (case coming soon though lol) battery life is excellent. At 4% battery right now writing this post and I've had 3 hrs 20 minutes of screen time in addition to using play music for 1 hour at the gym, YouTube videos, Web browsing, texting and the works and the battery is clutch. Screen is miles better than the AMOLED on the s4 I just switched from. Shame on me for switching away from HTC for my last phone. Very pleased.
Oh and Sense 6 has made huge leaps from sense 4 the last time I owned HTC. Software is well done, buttery smooth, and has great features that I have always wanted added to sense.

M8
I ordered mine yesterday AT&T is telling me that I should be getting it on the 3rd. I am also coming from Nexus 5. I have had a lot of HTC phones like the Aria, Inspire, the Vivid, and the ONE X. I left Vivid and went to the S2 skyrocket cause there was something about the Vivid that I cant remember that I didn't like, then when the One X came out I had it for a little bit and I didn't like the direction they were going so I went to the S3. I have had a lot of phones in the last 5 years so I hope HTC don't let me down with this ONE. I'm gonna keep ahold of my Nexus 5 tho..
I just got mine a few hours ago and love it so far!
To root, I just need to flash twrp then flash superuser right?

JUst got the M8. COming from the S4 and then the note 3. Loving everything about this phone. Might be the first phone I do not put AOSP in. HTC Sense is very minimal, and the tweaks they have made I find to be very helpful. I am loving the HTC camera as well as the knock features.
I left my beloved 5s for the M8 and couldnt be happier! The larger screen is the way to go
I've had Samsung for the past 3 phones. Love them but now want something new to play with. Seeing how much people love the m8 I'm going to go back to HTC. It looks really awesome. Just hope they have it in Stock at the stores.

My favorite feature is the ease of adding a SD card up to (and including) 128 gigs.
