yes you can. but sometimes you may face modem problems like "you can't call or text people!" like in XXEMG4. i suggest you to backup efs and then flash any f/w you'd like to.
:good:

Just make sure that the firmware you are flashing is for the I9300 branch. Flashing other firmwares not suitable for the I9300 will well... brick the device.

New toys with questions (newbie here)

My questions:
1, how to unlock my galaxy s2? Will it be permenant or ?
2, where can i download the latest official firmware to install my rooted galaxy? I dun want custom and firmware from network carrier but original without any network bundles app

Have a look at the xda bookmarks in my signature. There's links for CF-Root and branded and unbranded ROMs (all official releases). Each thread has full instructions on how to carry out the procedures, so just make sure to carefully read the 1st post on each relevant one and you can't go wrong.
Hmm.. What about sim unlock?

Once you're rooted, use this...

It does take a minute or two, so don't worry and think you've done something wrong.
for the unlock right.. is it permenant ??

The short answer: yes.
The long answer: yes it is.
I know that you came from an iphone where everything is done for you, but here there is a Search button - and it works really well. If you cannot find an answer or the answers are confusing/conflicting, then you post a question.
Note of warning: rooting your phone, flashing a non approved firmware or debranding your phone will invalidate your warranty. If you need to return for warranty, then you must return it to factory firmware condition (the ROMs for that can be found via this site) and the custom kernel counter must be reset with a jig - again the information for that can be found on this site.
Guys,
i've rooted my device and now i want to flash an Asia stock firmware (Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore) where do i download from ? i've found a link for Malaysia but the size of the file is only 26++ mb.. doesnt seem like a real stock firmware to me..
thanks
still no one can help after a day ????
^ I think there's a Hong Kong one in the ROM thread by intratech. Do a search, and I'm sure you'll find it.

Galaxy S3 Israeli carrier firmware update

Hello,
I have a galaxy s3 I9300 (international) running on:
AP: I9300JKALE2
CP: I9300JKLE8
CSC: I9300OJKALE6
I've rooted using CF-Root 6.4; I'd like to know how to update my firmware manually, because the Israeli carrier is really bad at releasing updates. Which version should I get? I looked over the list of firmwares but I couldn't find one for Israel.
Would I need to enter any values and settings manually once I update?
Will the new firmware override the rooting?
Basically, what version to download and what is the right way to get it on a rooted phone.
Many thanks in advance

Usually not if you upgrade without Wipe.
You may have to enter APN settings manually on Wipe if they cannot be loaded from the SIM-card

Flash with Odin, then re-root the phone with CF-Root.

The problem was that there is no official update for the Israeli orange-partner rom. So checking via sammobile and checkfus didn't give any results because I believe an update especially for Israel doesn't exist yet. I meant in OP which firmware would be closest and safest to flash, considering what I have now. I apologize for not being clearer.

That makes no sense at all. How can you call a car a cat? Two different things . Anyways have some respect to other members on a public forum, no one needs your political crap about Palestine/Israel its against the rules. I can call Jordan, Palestine as well but I won't. Trust me don't get into politics here, its a modding forum for Christ sakes.

How to flash OTA flash files downloaded from samfirmware?

Hi all
How should I flash the OTA flash files downloaded from Samfirmware?? Should I use ADB?? If yes, can anyone tell me the commands??
I normally flash phones with SPT/RIFF box, so I am a bit rusty in ADB
Kind regards
I'd say use Odin. But just to be sure, Check the stickies in the general forum. Use the search if not sure.

Hi!
Just use odin to flash the firmware.. i'm pretty sure most of the fw would just be on PDA in odin.

If you are talking about OTA and not the full firmware..it has to be flashed in stock recovery...first make sure you have the correct firmware version on your phone..the firmware version required will be given alongside the OTA on samfirmware..now move the OTA to your sdcard..reboot into stock recovery..use vol up+power+home buttons..then choose install update from there..
I need to do this. I'll do a Titanium Backup before, but should I expect all my content, apps, preferences and all that to be intact after the procedure (presuming everything goes the way it should)?
Edit: Also, why can't I see an option for United States in the drop-down menu when narrowing down my device? Should I use some other country?

And do you know what this ota files are used for? I've an S5830 from Vodafone(Spain) and I want to get it back to the original firm (you know, operator apps and some more innecesary ****), but I'm unable to find one on the internet.
Looking at www.samfirmware.com, the only thing I've seen about my device and Vodafone is the OTA file i'm talking about, but I'm not pretty sure if flashing it will let my phone in factory defaults.
I need to flash a Vodafone rom because I wanna send it to the technical support.

Find a Vodafone Spain Rom, it should be over 200mb, then download Odin for your galaxy ace, it should be in the ace forum. Then flash it. Check the link below.

Also in SF are others operators roms for s5830, but not from vodafone.

[Q] Software update vs country of purchase

Hi everyone
I am confused with this problem that I have: I bought Samsung Galaxy S3 international version GT-i9300. Now, I live in Australia. My question is, when I go to my phone to check software update or Samsung Kies to check software update, which will be visible/show up/ be downloaded to my phone? The latest version for International SGS3 OR the latest version for Australian SGS3?
Confusing isn't it?
So long story short: when there is a new update, which one is it? Is the software/firmware update based on the country of purchase (In this case, international version) or where I am living (Australia)?

Alright my apologies, I am the noob.
So, just making sure, because I still do not quite get it.
I will simplify this question even more. When there is asoftware update for my SGS3, which one will my phone download? The international software update(Because my phone is international) or will my phone download the australian software update(Because I live in australia)?
Still need help with this.

It will download the update that is in line with your firmware code. If you use an Australian firmware it will be the update for this Australian firmware once it is released.

Well, so it is based on my phone, NOT the country I am living in?
Mine is internatinal version GT-i9300, so when there is an update, my phone will download that one, and the Australian update is irrelevant for me?

It is not so much the intentional but the firmware Version, e.g. uk, Australian etc., you can find it under settings about phone. If your firmware is e.g. The uk version and stock you will get UK otas.

[Q] Can i flash a Rom from another country ?

Hello,
long time no see!
Just want to confirm if it's still the same case or anything changed.
I have a Galaxy S3 GT-I9300 ( I9300XXUGMK6 "4.3 Android" ) from Germany. Now i want to flash a firmware from another country for example "I9300XXUGML3" 4.3 Android for GT-I9300 from Singapore. Is it possible or has SAMSUNG changed anything in their policies that makes it impossible? Used to be possible with Odin.
thanks mates !

At first, its the wrong section. This must go in Q/A section.

I am from Portugal and here, like other counties, the updates have a delay... So, I always download the latest European Firmware available when it comes out in other country!!
The only noticable difference is the CSC version, each country has a different CSC and thus different bloatware, but that doesn't mean you can't flash another country's firmware that will work except with different preloaded software.
Apart from that try to pay attention to the "Changelist" number which is the build number (So higher means newer). When Samsung releases a firmware for a specific device some countries get a new build number while the others won't. So flash a firmware which has the highest "Changelist" number.
How can I check the "Changelist" number of the firmware?
