How to successfully install AT&T Dev rom to AT&T branded phone! - Nokia Lumia 920

I have successfully installed the AT&T Amber Developer rom to a brand new Locked Black AT&T branded phone just delivered this morning from AT&T. I had to go with AT&T to make sure that I got model rm-820 to ensure complete compatibility with 4G/Edge. The phone is locked, but I'm waiting for an email from AT&T to unlock it.
Here's how I got it done, just took some time and a lot of patience. As a bonus, I also got internet sharing working, without calling 611 and having tethering turned on, here in the NE USA, on AT&T's network.
Please remember that this is for a BLACK phone. Adjust for different colors if possible.
Download and install the latest version of NCS.
Download Navifirm+ v2.3 here: http://www.symbian-toys.com/navifirm.aspx. No need to install, just run it when you need it to download the rom.
I only downloaded two roms:
Rom 1
The first one was the pre-portico Rogers rom. I downloaded the needed files from here: http://wp.it168.com/thread-217624-1-1.html
Download the files under this heading "059Q6W4: RM-820_Rogers_Canada_VAR240202_v2_Black" by right clicking each one and saving to C:\Program Data\Nokia\Packages\Products\rm-820. Remove the check-sum numbers from the front of each file name when the downloads are complete.
Rom 2
Use Navifirm, or any of the other means, to download rom 059R2L5 RM-820 AT&T DEVELOPER DEVICE BLK. Copy the downloaded files to C:\Program Data\Nokia\Packages\Products\rm-821.
Flashing the roms
Start NCS and open product rm-820. Select Rom code 059Q6W4 RM-820_Rogers_Cana... Version 1232.2109.1242.1002. That should be the only one there. Click the start button to flash the rom to the phone. Ignore the warning about it not being the correct rom.
When flashing is complete, setup the phone just enough to get to the settings. Connect to your WIFI. In settings, go to Phone Update and click on Check for Updates. Keep tapping on the phone to keep it awake though out this procedure. The phone will take forever to find, download and install the first update. When completed and the phone is reset and on, set WIFI and check for updates again. Follow the same procedure until you are told that there are no more updates. I believe that it was 3 updates, maybe 4. Be sure that your WIFI is enabled each time to prevent failure of an update.
Go to NCS and open product rm-821. Select Rom code 059R2L5 RM-820 AT&T DEVELOPER DEV... Version 3047.0000.1326.20... That should be the only one there. Click the start button to flash the rom to the phone. Ignore the warning about it not being the correct rom.
Enable internet sharing
When the installation is complete, setup the basics of the phone. Enable WIFI. Go to Setting/Access Point and select AT&T - LTE 2 - Lumia.
Go to Settings/Keyboard. I kept the English keyboard and removed the French keyboard. Click on add keyboards and select Spanish (Spain).
Turn off your phone. Turn on your phone and go to Settings/Phone Updates and check for updates. Once the Spanish keyboard is installed, turn off the phone and then turn it back on. No need to do a reset.
When the phone is back on and up fully, go to Settings/Internet Sharing and turn it on. You'll see a screen stating "Sharing your cellular data connection over WIFI... a Broadcast name and password lines. Already had two tablets going thru it as a test. Worked great. Also, go to Settings/Speech and select the language you want spoken to you.
Hope this helps everyone out. I didn't include how to use NCS, feel free to add that if someone wants to.
PS The AT&T rom failure mismatch platform message, which has kept everyone from installing AT&T dev rom, or even own AT&T's rom, onto AT&T branded phones is misleading. What is being checked is the first section of the VERSION NUMBER. AT&T update needs to see at least version 3047.0000... (Amber) of the Rogers_Canada rom on the phone you're flashing the rom to in order to be successful. AT&T also checks a kernal version, which is the same for AT&T and Rogers roms.
By installing 059Q6W4 RM-820_Rogers_Cana... Version 1232.2109.1242.1002, which is the only rom that will flash onto an AT&T branded phone, and updating, you're bring the phone version up to 3047.0000.... and now 059R2L5 RM-820 AT&T DEVELOPER DEV... Version 3047.0000.1326.20... will install successfully.
The phone is now working fully, without any issues that I've been able to uncover yet.
I welcome any and all comments.
Added observations:
To avoid connectivity issues flashing, be sure to use a 2.0 USB port, directly to your computer, NOT thru a USB hub. If you plug into some 3.0 USB ports or a USB hub (powered or not), NCS will see and read the phone, but will fail at flashing.
All files for a rom need to be kept in their separate directories for clean flashing! Best practice is to download the files to a directory named after the rom you're downloading. Rename the directory of the rom you want to burn to your model (rm-820 or rm-821) before starting NCS. I believe Navifirm+ v2.3 already handles downloads this way. Failure to do this can result in a goofy acting phone, missing/not working right features and other possible issues.

But can you go back to the stock at&t retail rom ?

Sure! After flashing rom 059Q6W4 RM-820_Rogers_Cana... Version 1232.2109.1242.1002, do NOT perform any updates.
Download rom 059L848 RM-820 NDT AMERICA ATT Black and flash to the phone. This will install the current AT&T stock rom, Version 1232.5692.1314.0001, loaded with AT&T branded pay-for bloatware.
Now I have to ask, WHY would you want to run the branded, outdated firmware that is loaded with AT&T's pay-for bloatware, AND removes useful utilities that can help you potentially save money on AT&T's network? (Unless you're returning the phone to AT&T and you don't want them to know that you screwed with it.).
My wife has had her AT&T branded red 920 for about a week now, with the stock Version 1232... AT&T rom. I gave her my phone (AT&T branded black 920) that I've flashed to the Amber (Version 3042...) update, using the AT&T developers rom, to compare it to her phone. She played with the phone for about 1/2 an hour.
She said that she felt that the phone seemed to responded snapper under certain conditions, music in background, facebook running, and a game paused. She also liked having access to Data Sense. We have a shared 4 Gig plan and who ever goes over will have to come up with the extra cash, so she liked being able to view her usage in real time. She also really liked the Setting/Display and touch, which lets you double tap the screen to wakeup and displays the time while off. Also, having Setting/Internet sharing enabled (With Spanish (Spain) keyboard installed.), was a big hit with her. She'll be able to connect and use her WIFI table while on the road.
Needless to say, now she wants the Developers rom on her phone.

Nice. Thank you but I do have another question for the At&T Dev Rom. Do you know the code for Cyan AT&T color or should I use the black Dev Rom?
Thanks

I have only seen the AT&T developers rom for Black. I believe the only difference is what default color the tiles are (matches phone color) and what color the phone reports when plugged in.

I always want the ability yo go back to stock no matter what. Just a safety net for me I guess. Have you tested that method to go back to stock successfully? Just ask because it doesn't seem anyone else had found a successful method.

Yes, you can, using the procedure explained in my last reply. And, yes, I was able to reload the stock (UGH) rom.

Sure! After flashing rom 059Q6W4 RM-820_Rogers_Cana... Version 1232.2109.1242.1002, do NOT perform any updates.

I wonder why so many having problem going back to AT&T stock ROM

After installing Rogers Version 1232, even one update will prevent reloading stock AT&T rom. If you don't flash the stock rom immediately, you risk having the phone being updated automatically.

I think this thread would get more input in the 920 windows phone development section..

Yes the OP says its possible to go back to the ATT stock rom. They say not to let the phone update once on the Rogers preportico rom. From there, flash back to the ATT rom. It's supposed to work every time.

I believe that would be up to a moderator to make that decision and implement the change.

Returning to Stock
Once you have flashed the AT&T Developer ROM, is it possible to flash back to the Rogers Pre-Portico ROM to return to AT&T Stock?
Has anyone tested this?

as explained in the posts above the answer is yes. You can go back to pre-portico Rogers and without running any OTA updates on the pre-portico Rogers (any updates will prevent you to flash to stock ATT) you can go back to stock ATT rom.

Thanks! I just wanted to verify that this works! :good:

When attempting to use NCS, I get the error, "Data package selection failed. Access is denied. Verify credentials."
I'm using 5.0.0 (2013.1.3) and I've moved the .cfg file to the appropriate location. Any ideas?
UPDATE - My problem was resolved by following the flashing procedure in this thread
I'm now running the AT&T GDR2 & Amber update - Thanks!

I don't think this is accurate info, please correct me if I'm wrong but don't you need to do OTA updates while in the pre portico rom in order to flash up to amber rom? I just successfully flashed a Rogers pre portico rom onto my att L920 and flashed back to my original stock rom because for some reason I couldn't flash the att amber dev rom (ID invalid errors) and the only reason I could think of as to why it wouldn't flash for me is because of a lack of OTA updates while in the rogers pre portico rom..

My post was referring to go back to ATT stock rom once you have been to some Amber rom. You can only go back to stock ATT if you reflash with pre-portico Rogers and not have it do OTA. Once you get an OTA you cannot go back to stock ATT. You basically confirmed this. To go to Amber you have to do OTA on the pre portico Rogers.

thanks for the confirmation, guess if I had to send this unit in for repair/replacement, I can flash the at&t dev rom and not have to worry about voiding any warranty

I tried going back to the pre portico rom and all I get is an error 0xFA001304: Platform ID check fails. Reason(s): The FFU file is not meant for this product. The platform ID of image does not match with platform ID of the device. I can flash to a french rom I found on wpc and the att dev rom but the not the pro portico rom. Can anyone help me out?

Hey Guys,
Im very new to the whole "Tablet World", I actually just purchased a T-Mobile Springboard via Ebay.
I have not yet recieved the tablet as it should arrive sometime this week, but I have been doing some research so that when it gets
here im not totally in the dark.
It is the 7"model and I believe it currently has HoneyComb installed on it, I would also assume it is locked under the Tmobile Network.
Since I live in Canada I would have to get it unlocked to be able to use it.
OK so here are all my questions...
Where can I get it unlocked, or could I do this myself somehow with software.
I want to install the most recent version of ICS ( I think its 4.0.3), would that require that I root my device?
If so can anyone send me the link to the download and instructions.
Does rooting the device cause any ill side effects? You know with the good comes some bad..lol
I was reading some people were having issues with certain things after the root.
I would love to be able to Text, make phone calls as well as browse..
is this all possible, if so how?
Thanks you guys are the smartest..

OK unlocking. First you will need your new sim. Then pop in the sim and it should bring up the sim unlock menu (it varies between 3.2 and ICS). Then load up tmobiles chat on the web site and ask to unlock the unit. They will unlock the unit as long as its paid off.
For ICS you can down load it directly from H unrooted:
http://www.huaweidevice.com/worldwi...thod=gotoProductSupport&productId=3779&tb=0);
FIRMWARE(S7-301u,Android4.0,C232B005,General_Channel)
You can download rooted roms here. they are 99% untouched, im running the OsiMood which just has some stock apps removed, and the charging icon is text instead of a battery.
You shouldnt have any issues with a rooted rom. The only issues are with the cm9,AOKP and the ones with custom kernels.
You can text, talk, data on ICS only, and only if you are not on tmobile. You would have to be on att straitTalk or any other carrier. Tmobile is the only carrier thats says no no to all 3 on a tablet, at least in the usa. Tmobile gives you a choice of text/voice, or data only.
Thanks
Thanks a lot man.. I really appreciate any help I can get, and for you guys to take time out of your day to help someone out is great.
Ok so..it still didnt arrive..(getting impatiant) lol I guess its gotta go through Customs..
hmm.. ok so your saying I can download ICS directly from Huawei, will that work fine since its actually a Springboard and not a MediaPad.
Whats the difference between ICS and ICS rooted? Do I need to root, benifits?Which would be best and why?
If I need to root where are the links for the newest ICS rooted on XDA?
I wouldnt be with Tmobile, since there isnt any in Canada..
I already bought a SIM from Petro Canada Mobility
I was told It was best for cheap plans with unlimited Browsing, the only thing was that for data only applications that run through port 80 would work. The trick was to get a proxy app through Google Play and run all your shiat though port 80.
Makes sense?
Thanks!!
Ya I sent the link to the oem vesion. Tmobile puts their own rom on it and calls it a springboard.
Root gives apps more acess such as backups, or changing ui features.
The 2 latest roms are hwmod and osimood. They are about the same.
Cant help you with the proxy things

I went to the HUAWEI site and why would I go with HUAWEI MediaPad FIRMWARE(S7-301u,Android4.0,C232B005,General_Channel) ?
isnt there even newer ones?
there are like 5 above that one, like HUAWEI MediaPad FIRMWARE(S7-302u,Android4.0,C232B001,General Channel)
whats the difference
and how do i install it
You might want to wait a few days to see if T-Mobile makes good on their promise to push out ICS in an OTA update to the Springboard. You will be able to receive the update over wi-fi no matter which carrier you are running it on. It would save you some hassle in flashing international ROMs. Also I can vouch for the fact that the international ICS ROMs have some radio stability problems on the Springboard hardware - connections may freeze unexpectedly.
In terms of carrier compatibility in Canada:
- In theory the Springboard *should* work on Videotron, Wind and Mobilicity because it has the AWS HSPA band. Mine doesn't and I don't know why. It just won't connect with a WIND or Mobi SIM (haven't tested Videotron). It might be because I flashed an international ROM with a different radio.
- The Springboard has 1900 MHz HSPA but not 850. If you are going to use it on the Rogers network (which includes Rogers, Fido, SpeakOut and all their MVNOs), you will get a 3G/H signal in urban areas where 1900 MHz is used. In many locations though, their 3G service may be only on the 850 MHz band (which the Springboard can't access), in which case it will drop down to EDGE.
- If you try and use it on Bell, Telus or their sub-brands, you will get 3G/HSPA in urban areas, but in locales where the service is only on 850 MHz, you will get no signal at all. Bell/Telus has 3G/HSPA and LTE but no 2G/EDGE, so if you can't pick up the signal, it just drops.
S7-301u,S7-302u,S7-303u are the radio bands not firmware versions. 303u is the t mobile band, most people use the 301u. Just because firmwares came after it doesnt mean they are newer. 2 of the newer ones are just fixes for german and russian versions.
Wait for the offical tmobile version in the next few weeks, or download the version i told you.
To flash is easy:
unzip the file onto the root of your sd card
reboot the spring board
it will run the update, then tell you to remove the sd card
remove sd card
reboot system
either plug the sd card back into the spring board and remove the zip folder, or pop the sd card in a flash card reader and removed the zip folder with a pc
If you reboot the springboard again without removing the zip folder, it will reinstall again.
I just received mine today and want to try ICS. If I flash this FIRMWARE(S7-301u,Android4.0,C232B005,General_Channel) will I be still able to receive the official t-mobile version via OTA? How do I backup the stock rom?
Cant backup the original rom. Cant get the OTA if you flash the factory(non tmobile) ICS rom.
Sorry thats how it rolls. If we are slightly lucky someone will grab the OTA for us flashers and we will be set. Or H will release a 303 firmware to work with all the tmobile channels.

Thanks for the heads up. If I gone ahead and flash FIRMWARE(S7-301u,Android4.0,C232B005,General_Channel) will I still be able to use 4G/3G for tmobile? I understand that I can also use gsm voice/text with this firmware is that correct?
voice/text/data has to do with the carrier. att lets you do it, tmobile wont, its not about the firmware.
In your area you will either flash the 301 or the 302 firmware. They are the same other than what band they run in. They havent comes out with a 303 factory firmware yet.

Ok.. Well I have had the device a couple days now and just been fooling around with it.
Now I would like to get this all in motion.
My question is, If I go with ICS from HUAWEI website, can I still root the device? and do I do that after or before.
and how?
I think I need to root it to run a Proxy program to run everything through port 80, which is what Petro Canada Mobility(Rogers) leaves open on Unlimited Browsing Plan.
Also in the instruction, you said put it in the "root" , what you mean by root, and thats on the micro sd right?

This Is starting to really bother me.. I tried like 4 sources and everyone boots and then stops durring update and says FAIL.
WTF?
I have failed once when trying to install a new firmware which turns out to be corrupted download (the firmware was one of those pre-rooted firmware). I also read someone failed many times and turns out the problem is in their sd card. If you have a spare sd card, you probably can try putting the firmware there or if you don't mind formatting your current card then you can also try that.

Ok so here is the update.
I got 301u ICS General up and running, just curious on why I installed 301u over 302u. Which is better for my region (Montreal , QC) would be on Rogers network?
Because I have been having issues getting connected to network, wondering if I maybe installed wrong firmware.
Anyway, next step is to root.
1) Download Huawei MediaPad ROOT ICS Android 4.0.x.rar
2) Connect the tablet to your PC, install the driver.
3) In the settings of the tablet enable debugging by USB .
4) Unpack the archive.
5) Run the Install Root.cmd wait three reboots.
Ok, I downloaded the file to my Laptop, Im just confused on step 4 and 5 so I have stopped until I find out more informaion because I do not want do to it wrong.
"Unpack the Archive"? could someone maybe expand on this limited explanation. Do I extract the file to desktop or directly onto the tablet and same with running Root.cmd where do I run it from?
can someone please maybe explain the steps better then they were, I ve seen better instructions written on a carton of milk on how to open it, then this.

Updating Software International Version

Just got the GT-I9100 International version for my daughter (we are on AT&T). What do I need to know before checking and installing updates? I started to check for updates but it asks for my location and I read somewhere about people who downloaded U.S. version (in the U.S.) and installed it on their non-U.S. phones and they screwed up the machine. I believe the phone is from Germany (the initial language when we turned it on was German).
Thanks.

There is no version of the i9100 sold in the US. What you probably read about is someone who flashed firmware or a ROM for the i777 (or some other different variant model) to an i9100. The i777 is the variant sold by AT&T. The i9100 is sold internationally.
As long as you stick to flashing things meant for the i9100, you should be fine.
Also, make sure of the exact model. There is also the i9100G variant, which is incompatible to the i9100 in terms of firmwares, kernels, and ROMs.
Just be careful, and if you intend on flashing anything, only use things meant for that exact model phone.
Thanks. I meant OTA update. If I check OTA update, isn't it getting updates from Samsung US or something like that?
BTW, these are the specifics of this device. I am also considering rooting it. Not sure what would be the best way though (I only have experience with rooting my I777) l.

I don't believe you'll get any OTA updates on the i9100 while in the US. I haven't, in over a year. Besides, you can turn it off. (OTA)
Aint the updates controlled by CSC?? From the pic it seems to be XW -> UK i guess? So you should still get UK updates ...
Rooting is simple (My guide is to skip rooting and jump straight for custom rom, but the steps to root are the same)
1. Download any version of CWM from here
2. Get desired rom (kernel too if you want)
3. Place everything in Externel SDcard
4. Boot into stock recovery (Power+Home+Vol up)
5. Use stock recovery to flash CWM
6. Backup Current stock rom
7. Wipe the usual
8. Flash Custom rom (Or just kernel)
9. Reboot
10. ?? Profit ??
Now you got Custom rom or Kernel + Full stock rom backup (can always get stock rom from sammobile if you lose it)

As I said, I have had this phone for over a year, bought from the UK, and never had an OTA update. I am in the US, and am an AT&T customer.
Thank you both!

By flashing a kernel that has it included. You can do this with a CWM flashable package from within the temporary CWM. Recovery is part of the kernel package on this phone.
This is where it comes into play that you make sure you flash a kernel meant for the i9100.
Recoveryception bro
Not sure why I cannot find stock in sammobile.

Reason I am asking about update is that the phone keeps 'suggesting' to check for Software Update and when I start the update process it asks me to choose which country I am at. So I am wondering what will happen if I download an update OTA. I read somewhere that it comes from Samsung US and Samsung US only have updates for US models.

Do I need specific kernel for LPI (current is I9100XWLPI), or any kernel for I9100?

Depends. A custom kernel like Siyah will do. I don't think OTA works on this phone in the States.
I'm not a fan of all the advice that you're getting. The advice being given to you is for those who want to run custom firmware. You mentioned wanting the OTA (which won't likely happen for you as a user residing in the US). Simply download Samsung Kies and install on your desktop.
http://www.samsung.com/us/kies/
Once it detects your phone plugged in via USB, it will tell you which firmware you're on, and what the most recent firmware for your model is. If the most recent is newer than what you have, it will prompt you to update.
EDIT: See attached image for a screenshot of my Kies w/my SGS2 i9100.

Well, at the end of the day I do want to root and maybe even install a custom rom (trying to convince my daughter that it's safe ). I did root and run Shostock on my I777, but I don't have any experience with the I9100.
I don't necessarily want the OTA update, I was just worried that if I try to update it (currently 4.0.3...not sure if there is a newer version at all), the OTA will put something that does not belong there. As I said, I read somewhere about Samsung US downloading US version that doesn't work with the I9100.
If you want to root and rom, this is the right place. If you or your daughter are more comfortable with a stock ROM, get Kies. It's not going to download the US firmware. Here's why.
-you plug it in and it detects the phone, literally saying, "Hey, I have an i9100 here, not an i-777!"
-It looks for your current firmware, literally saying, "Hmm, I see UK 4.0.3 here, let's see if there's more current UK firmware."
-It then finds the more current firmware for what is currently installed, "Egads! There's a 4.0.4 UK firmware!"
Anyway, there is in fact a more recent firmware for your device (4.0.4) and it contains numerous bug fixes. I'd recommend installing Kies and running that update. Then, if you haven't done much with the phone yet, factory reset it to clean out any left over garbage. It will give you a smooth experience. And for what it's worth, I've had no desire to root/rom my SGS2. On my Incredible, not only did I root/rom, but I had my own project (Liberation) that I ran on these very boards. With the SGS2, there's been no need for me to do that.
Some like the "pure google experince"
So indeed we got an update through Kies. Thank you.
BTW - it is a German phone. It came with, and re-installed with the update, some German links/apps (I removed them when we first started it). For some reason the updated stock is not shown in the Kernel version as it did before (see pic).
Question: I am using TB on my I777. Maybe I'll skip the root on her phone, she will be going to college and I won't be around to fix things if needed . Is there an app to backup user apps without root?

Since you are on german firmware, I'd recommend learning how to use ODIN as your next step. Switch it over to UK firmware. All apps are in English. Once you use Odin to switch over to a different country's firmware, Kies will only detect your device as being from the new country, and only look for compatible firmware within that country. This is something that you can do that won't require root, won't risk voiding your warranty (if you follow the simple instructions), and can be a precursor to root/romming if your daughter wants to go that route.

Thanks jaykresge. I am familiar with Odin. As I mentioned - my I777 is rooted. What I don't know though is how/where to get the correct UK firmware to replace the one I have and "UK'ing" the device

To clear up confusion surrounding firmware and wireless carriers (namely,Verizon)

Hello everyone
I am making this post because from reading discussions, there seems to be a large degree of confusion circulating regarding the differences between Verizon branded HTC 10 and the unlocked edition HTC 10, and what software can be used on either and what works on the Verizon network and doesn't. None of the information below is officially endorsed or supported, and I make no guarantees that it will work on your device-- can only vouch what works on mine.
Firstly...if you own an HTC 10 and are a Verizon customer, and your device is S-OFF, this applies to you. Whether it was purchased as an unlocked edition or a Verizon branded edition, the hardware is identical (as far as I understand), and if your device is S-OFF then you can put any software on the device as you so desire. This means when you travel, you can flash GSM firmware, then buy a cheap local prepaid SIM card in your destination country. Or if you get tired of Verizon, you can switch to ATT or TMobile-- or, vice versa, you can switch to Verizon from AT&T or TMobile.
When we get to the subject of firmware, the waters start to get muddy. Generally you are told that if you are on Verizon's network, you must flash only Verizon firmware or your device will not work on their network. This kinda sucks for us Verizon customers, because Verizon is known to be painfully slow at rolling out updates, and there could be serious security holes that are left unpatched while waiting for them to come through.
*However*, I have found that this device runs perfectly fine on Verizon's network with the unlocked-edition firmware (which is significantly more up-to-date as the Verizon firmware), as long as your RADIO partition is flashed with Verizon-specific radio firmware. But aside from the radio partition, none of the software on the other partitions need be Verizon-specific software. This is the method I use for updating to the latest unlocked firmware and Verizon radio (S-OFF requred):
--to update to the latest Verizon radio, flash the latest Verizon firmware-- just search for Verizon htc 10 firmware updates downloads, and you should be able to find it.. I will update this post later with a direct link to that thread..
--next step-- copy your radio partition to a disk image file. boot into recovery, then from adb shell run :
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p30 of=radio.img
exit the shell, use adb pull to pull the radio.img file onto your PC
--step 3. flash the newest firmware for the unlocked-edition...
--step 4. flash the radio.img that you extracted earlier. Fastboot flash from bootloader mode (not RUU mode, not download mode-- just regular bootloader mode with the white screen and the tiny menu). 'fastboot flash radio radio.img'
And that's it.. you're good to go.. again, these instructions assume you are S-OFF and are familiar with the basic procedures for flashing firmware. If you wish to do this, it is done at your own risk.
Happy to answer any questions...hopefully some folks here will find this useful .
Well written, appreciate the info. [emoji106]

Excellent guide, especially for those of us on Verizon who might want to test the waters with other 10-based ROMs. Since Verizon disables certain functions on its own devices (e.g. "Powersaver," SystemUI Tuner), one might want to look at the unlocked ROMs for full features. Thanks.:good:
I'm googling like crazy how to do the ADB Pull part up. lol I'm in bootloader with CMD promt open and i dont know what to type to ADB pull (never attempted this before).
EDIT: So apparently you need supercid to do this and when i try to modify the cid through "htc_fastboot oem writecid 11111111" it fails and I cannot continue. Anyone have luck doing this?
EDIT2: After a reboot, it allowed me to changed the CID. I tried to flash the firmware first (which crashed and I wasn't able to) so that must have caused the inability to change CID.
Answer to my Question by user @sbong
To Backup your Radio:
1. adb shell
2. su (if needed to get a #)
3. dd if=dev/block/mmcblk0p30 of=/sdcard/radio.img
4. exit
5. You'll find the radio image on the internal sd card
Flashing Latest unlocked firmware WIPED my ROM so just a heads up to anyone trying this.
I ran through these steps and flashed the international firmware version 1.95.401.4 and then flashed the radio I had while still on my VZW firmware. I did have to change my MID and CID before the firmware would flash but after I did it flashed successfully. Then I went back to bootloader (white screen with options) and flashed the radio.img file. After doing that and rebooting I am now sitting at the HTC splash screen with the white background and the red text saying this build is for dev purposes only. Any idea what to do at this point? Thanks!
EDIT: I am trying in TWRP to wipe system, data, and boot and then restore my ROM from a TWRP backup. Will post if it boots after doing this.
EDIT 2: Wiping my partitions in TWRP and the doing a restore allowed me to boot...interesting to note I got my firmware from here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1EdAHLDDxqf9jH65me_8bY9oXdaYusI0eedpwO6yUY2s/pubhtml under the NoWipe section so it shouldn't have messed with my ROM.
I'm hoping this helps with battery life as previously I was on old VZW firmware but my ROM was running a newer FW base. I heard that could cause battery drain. Now my phone FW matches the FW my ROM was based off of.
Unlocked software doesn't support Verizon advanced calling features. Which is a pretty big no for perfect. Just saying...

I'm running unlocked US firmware version 1.95.401.4, but what I did do was extract the radio.img from my VZW firmware first, flashed the US unlocked, then flashed the VZW radio.img and booted up. My HD and WiFi calling is activated and working.

You still didn't say what rom/software you are running. You can run the firmware from unlocked minus radio while on a Verizon rom and still have these features (why one would do this I have no clue). The unlocked os itself does no have advanced calling built in for Verizon unless it's a custom ROM like what @santod040 built where he added those features back in.

The reason I flashed the US unlocked 1.95.401.4 is because I am running LeeDroid 2.7.0 which is based off of that firmware. I wanted the FW my ROM was based off of to match the firmware my phone was running. Also, VZW is way behind on FW updates for the 10 and I like to be somewhat up to date on the latest security patches from Google.

Those security updates will be covered on the os side. While leedroid may be based off a 401 build make no mistake that most ril functions required for it to work on Verizon have been carved in from an actual Verizon rom. So in a sense, the parts that actually matter for connectivity are still going to interface best with Verizon firmware.

Thank you for that info. So is there any benefit then to what I did? Is anything broken in my phone that I don't know about? I have heard that if the FW a ROM was based off didn't match the FW your phone was running it could be a rogue battery drainer, is this true?

I would say likely not. As to whether anything is broken... if it's working it hasn't broken anything yet. You have to be careful though when running bits and pieces of mixed firmware because partition structure of the phone can change on htc phones based on aboot/hboot. So you can run into a scenario where a phone might not be partitioned to allow certain size images to flash successfully. Me personally, I would run one or the either. In this case, while on verizon, I would use the verizon firmware even if on a custom based rom. The one exception to this would be a built from the ground up rom like CM or AOSP. Some of these were developed to work solely on specific firmware.. One such variant of this in the htc m8 days was super popular. It was also the number one killer of m8's due to the specific/custom firmware flashing that was recommended in the OP. I can't tell you how many users i attempted to help fix their phones that either would not boot at all or that the phone itself was in a full write protected state.

I find this statement sort of funny. Since we are talking firmware and not OS here it's not muddy at all. Verizon is behind on OS updates. Yes they toss in the HTC provided firmware updates as HTC requires.. but make not mistake the OS itself carries the security patches. So thinking you've somehow patched yourself by flashing firmware only is false re-assurement.
If somehow this statement refers to flashing the entire unlocked RUU/ROM/firmware all together and flashing the verizon radio by itself then i stand by my original note that this will get you the latest OS/firmware from HTC which will likely have the best chance at patching security flaws overall.. but the trade off will be advanced calling which is huge for most users.

Is this correct? I thought flashing the VZW radio.img would enable advanced calling features to work? I am on a US unlocked FW with VZW radio.img flashed and my advanced calling features are functional on LeeDroid 2.7.0.

Again,, I will restate it. You are NOT on unlocked. You have pieces of the firmware and a custom rom. That custom rom was based off international rom ( Not even the unlocked version as 401 is international and 617 is the actual unlocked variant).
Don't believe me this is a result of custom rom work and not firmware? Flash the unlocked RUU and then the verizon radio to get service. You will notice that advanced calling doesn't exist in the menu for you.

Ok, sorry if my confusion is frustrating ...So basically my advanced calling features are operable due to my ROM and not the fact that I flashed a VZW radio.img on top of the non VZW firmware I flashed? Not frustrating at all. Don't take my responses as that way and certainly don't stop asking questions because of it. I'm still waking up here today so it's probably how i'm writing my responses lol. Personally I would just run the stock verizon firmware and enjoy your custom rom.
Your advanced call features are working due to leedroid splicing in the functional pieces of the advanced call features from the current verizon rom. I remember using an earlier version of his rom that lacked this feature set. I bailed on his rom pretty quickly when that was the only offering available as i needed advanced calling. A month or so later he added it to the rom later. @santod040 is one verizon dev who can comment here further when he sees this to attest to the fact the only way advanced calling works on verizon while on a non-verizon rom is that the DEV must enable it.
On the CM side of the house i have been involved in tracking down pieces of volte/advanced calling even back on the m9 in order to get it functional and I can tell you there it's not easy. So if you're on a non-vzw based rom and have advanced calling... make sure you thank the guys who baked your rom.

Ok awesome, that pretty much sums up what I needed to hear! My last question, I have heard in the past that if the phone FW does not match the ROMs FW base it could be a rogue battery drainer, is this true? Part of the reason of me flashing the matching FW that LeeDroid 2.7.0 runs is in case mismatched ROM FW and phone FW does cause some kind of battery drain. I have to say, my phones battery is pretty pathetic even with Amplify, Greenify, Power Nap, etc. Thanks again!
Wow. I don't think I could be more confused. I'm humbly asking for clarity
I've got a Verizon 10 that is s-off, rooted, unlocked and running LeeDroid. The download screen shows 1.19 for the OS and @60504 for the radio. If I don't care about preserving the contents of the internal card, what's the simple path to get the fw/radio updated (looks like 1.85.605.8) and back to LeeDroid? If extracting the radio.img is a requirement, usually that kind of file is linked inline with the threads to root or update the fw. It's not, so alarms are going off in my head that there is a reason a flashable radio isn't right next to the RUU which would be next to the instructions for going from a custom rom like LeeDroid or Viper -> update fw/radio -> back to custom rom.
It took me an hour of reading, and not working, just to figure out I have an old fw/radio and one wrong move would commit myself to a day of reading and trying random things.
I can't stress the humble position I'm in and I did search and try to find the clear path, but I can't see it. Help?

For you just flash the custom firmware zip for Verizon that's been posted. You want the one without stock recovery and bootloader.
Going that route updates your phones firmware and saves you from wiping and flashing.

Downgrade necessary for carrier/csc change? August 1st update

Hey guys,
Bought the galaxy s8 plus from a store thinking it was factory unlocked version directly from samsung, but it wasnt. Its the unlocked sprint version based on the radio, and it had a tmobile app or two already installed. I am using AT&T and would like to change the carrier to at&t so that I can get a few features for at&t (Mainly being able to send mms while on wifi). I updated to the latest online update (which im guessing i shouldnt have) and i would like to know if its possible to easily change the carrier still, and or if i can downgrade safely to change the carrier. If so, what files are the latest that I can get the ball rolling with? Using the AT&T version is completely fine.
I came across this youtube video that shows how to easily change carrier without flashing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=msAHhCVF-F8
Basically i am a bit lost and would like to know if anyone can help at this point. Here are my software information:
Bootloader Version: G955USQU1AQGL
Build number NRD90M.G955USQU1AQGL
Active CSC Code: XAS
Please advise, thanks guys!

Goto updato.com to download the latest AT&T stock firmware. Extract and flash the files in Odin. If you flash all the files (AP, BL, CP And CSC) you will wipe everything on the phone so backup first. If you don't want to start over, then just flash CP and CSC.
There are two versions, 955U and 955U1. The U version is carrier specific and will contain their own software bloat. The U1 version is unbranded so no carrier bloat.
If you need more details, search for carrier switch.

Hey my friend,
Thanks so much for reaching back with an update and for the support! Awesome! So, youre 100% sure downgrade procedure wont brick the device? Also, do you know if this will this trip knox? Last question: do you think this will solve the red tint on the edges of the phone? I heard this was supposedly a software issue, not hardware.

I'm pretty confident downgrading will not brick. It will definitely not trip Knox. Here's is a link someone says they fixed it: https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...sampwnd-root-green-screen-corruption-t3673810.

Ok, so I tried it and with the unbranded XAA version and I am getting a "FAIL! Model dismatch fail" in odin. Even tried renaming files to tar and removing md5 at the end.
I also noticed that when in download mode, there are no green words going across the screen like I see in youtube videos who get it after they connect it. Could it be i do not have specific drivers installed? I installed the samsung usb drivers.
EDIT: Scratch that, the odin PrinceComsy version (Has to have the banner at the top) seems to be working fine. I am currently flashing

Download quick reboot for your phone and use the app to get into download mode. Make sure you have debug settings turned on in phone. Also check if you can access the phone when its plugged into your computer. If you see it as a drive, then the drivers were installed correctly. If not, uninstall and reinstall.

Awesome. ok, so i got it to work. But now when i reflash the rom back for sprint, the splash screen is stuck to AT&T and does not remove or go unbranded no matter what i do. It even has bloatware for att when the system starts. I never flashed att rom, only sprint unbranded XAS, not sure how this is happening. How can i get unlocked gsm and cdma back unbranded for sprint? I even formatted everything and flashed the user data, still the same. Its weird
Also, I am flashing it back to return the phone to store the way I received it. This red tint is just unacceptable.

You need to flash the XAA not XAS U1 firmware.

Hey man, thanks for the update. So I should flash XAA to change splash screen to samsung and be able to have both sprint cdma and all bands of gsm enabled again?

Yes that firmware is unbranded. The CSC from XAA will automatically detect your carrier's sim and use that network.

Hey man,
Thanks for this! Also, do you know if it will allow you to choose cdma as an option as well?

Ok, so just tried it and the sprint CDMA is no longer available in the Mobile Networks menu., only the following:
Mobile Data
International Data Roamin
Disable 2G
Access Point Names
Network Operators (AT&T underneath)
There is no option to choose CDMA like there was before I just firmware changed. The XAS firmware that I had offered the option to choose automatic, LTE/3G, CDMA. Now its gone from the menu after the XAA flash.

Hey bud,
Thanks for this. My actual carrier is AT&T, but id like to keep the option of having CDMA available if I ever decide to go with sprint. I have the app installed, When i tried to launch Preconfig (com.sec.android.Preconfig.Preconfig) and it gives an error "su: not found"

Forgot you have to be rooted use the app. There's an adb command you can use instead. Just do a search in xda for preconfig carrier switch.
I flashed my spring s8 plus with Odin and now I can't get it to read my sim at all ,says will not register on network , where the carrier usually is it says 12345 , I've tried to flash back to stock and nothing works ...im at a loss this is my only phone ,I've tried to do a stock reflash and still nothing , I even did a emergency recovery through smart switch and still ...please help

need instruction on career switching

hi i have a verizon tab s6 sm-t867v(lte version) the stock rom does not let you use phone app to do calls and messages app dont work. all the calls or messages should go throug the verizon propritory messages+ app ,where you need to add verizon number. . and the tablet is unlocked to any career. . I DONT WANT TO ROOT THE DEVICE. i did a career switch for my note 8 from att to tmobile without rooting so i thought i can do the same to tab s6. i have few questions
1. is there a way i can swap for another career rom
2. can i flash international rom just throug odin so that i dont deal with verizon bloatware.
can any one point me to the files and the thread.
is there a way i can use calling and texting on without going throug messages+ app. thanks for the help in advance. i am sorry if anythin i ask is silly. peace

Yes you can switch the firmware on the sm-t867v from Verizon to TMobile or Sprint. It keeps the bootloader locked down so root is still impossible but since you are not looking to root it just switching the firmware version should work just fine. I personally have metro pcs and their $15 unlimited tablet data plan on mine and I switched my firmware to TMobile so I could pick up the LTE bands it would not connect to with the Verizon firmware. All you need to do is download the modified Odin 3.14 and the firmware of the carrier you wish to switch to. It HAS to have the same base model. For example I went from the SM-T867V firmware and flashed the SM-T867U firmware to the device. So your firmware choice absolutely MUST have the SM-T867 in the beginning of it. Any other firmware will most likely brick your device if Odin even allows it to flash. The thing that makes the difference between Verizon and TMobile is the user userdata file. You must flash it with the rest of the firmware files, So BL, AP, CP, CSC, and Userdata. Don't worry, the stock firmware will come with the userdata file. Also its best that you don't flash the CSC-Home file but flash the regular CSC file as the home one will not delete your data and its probably best to do a full wipe when switching firmwares, so make sure you back up anything you don't wish to lose. When the flashing is finished it will boot and instead of the white screen with big red circle for Verizon you will get a pink TMobile screen and it will be model SM-T867U now. All OTA updates will still work without problem and you will get a functional dial pad which works for all the secret menus and all that fun stuff. BTW, I take absolutely no responsibility if for some reason it messes up or bricks your tab s6 lte. Goodluck and enjoy your non Verizon tablet.

I'm glad it worked for you without any major issues. This was the first thread I've given any real instruction on. Hope your tab continues to work perfectly. I broke the screen on mine so the only thing it's really used for is an android PC. Thank God for the Tab S6`s ability to output video so easily and the Samsung DEX software.
