[DEV] [WIP] [SGH-i527] Device in hand. AMA. - Samsung Galaxy Mega

I'm sending this from an At&t branded SGH-i527. I don't know how many are out there yet. How can I help? AMA.

That makes two of us !!!!

+1 ,The major thing we need right now is a root method for the SGH-1527.

Root method
Has anyone tried motochopper? At first glance, I don't see why it wouldn't work. This build is stunningly similar to the At&t Galaxy S 4 and we've successfully rooted those with motochopper.

Have we tried editing the script used here to skip device verification? Risky, but would work.

The business part is not a script, but a binary. You will need a hex editor. I tried but there are a lot of numbers in there that apparently specify the exact version the exploit will work on and it was too complicated.

Ya I tried that days ago the method just keeps giving you permission denied,I've tried every method available even the clockwork and root methods for the 19152 and motochopper, plus almost everything found on internet.I think its just the device isn't as popular than most galaxy lines.I understand the locked bootloader situation, but I know the note 3 will probably be in the same boat.I think the note 3 will be rooted before the1527,its just going to be more popular with more dev support and devs working on the note 3

Do you guys think they will stay with the 5.5 inch screen with the note 3?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I527 using xda app-developers app

The note 3 supposed to be coming with a 5.68.to 5.7 inch screen which in my eyes is a big dissapointment.I was hoping for at least 6 inch screen size or 6.3 like the mega.It would be nice if they came out with the same situation as the mega one phone at 5.8 another at 6.3 inch screen.I heard they finally ditched the 16 gb internal memory to stock 32gb internal. Ill probally still going to buy it anyways, still undecided what to do with this mega, keep it or return it,love the phone hate having no root,I got 5 days left before my 14 days are up

Im in the same boat I'll hold on to the mega till they announce the note 3 then I'll make my call. I have a little more than a week left on my return.

Sammobile app says s4 debuts in march with an april release.
Since this is an international phone and international releases work with some tweaks on our Notes, I think it's a good possibility. When is a better question, but once the first few leaks hit, I'm sure the devs will get it working
Even if we dont officially get it. (Which I think we will since it was released on jellybean) the phone certainty has tge hardware to run it. So then itd be up to devs to work their magic. Heck if they can get my old deoid x to run ics tgan they can get 4 times the phone the x was to run key lime.

4.2 is a pretty minor upgrade. I was running 4.2 ROMs on my Rezound, and I really can't say that there are any 4.2 features that I miss. It wouldn't upset me if they skip it.

4.2 is a downgrade. My nexus 10 is barely usable because of it.
If you look at both the og note and the sgs2 as those are the best examples we have they both started on gingerbread and are now moving to 4.1 I am very impressed with Samsungs upgrade commitment which is one of the main reasons I left HTC. I would be shocked if our phones never receive an upgrade.

Question about unlocking bootloader with causal

I have question about using casual to root and unlock bootloader. After a few trys I was able to root but no success in unlocking bootloader. Ive followed the instructions and watched the YouTube video and nothing. My question is did I get bad download or did Verizon pull another fast one? Or is it simply triail and error.

If you find this hard to unlock, thank god you didn't own a thunderbolt that took near a half hour entering command line prmpts to unlock. Or the rezound that you had to short circuit with a wire in a precise time to unlock.

[PETITION] Unlock Bootloader All Variants

Let's all sign this, guys! I just find the whole process of flashing a P760 kdz on a P769 ridiculous and unnecessary.
This is laziness on LG's part and I think it's disrespectful to us as consumers. They can try to pass the blame to the carriers but ultimately, they manufacture the device and we purchased it.
They should have asked the people that ensure a steady profit for approval and not another greedy corporation. Let's sign.

You are probably addressing the wrong people. LG doesn't really care. It's T-Mobile who requested to lock be bootloader, LG cannot go against it. They may unlock p760/65 although I don't really know how they are sold in Europe and what are the pricing models. P769 is very unlikely, T-Mobile will not do it because they sell this phone very cheap (been seen for $150 on Amazon) and without their plans. It's their way to screw it up as much as they can and lower its perceptive value so people would go for more expensive phones and plans.
I chatted with a T-Mobile rep not too long ago and he told me that the manufacturer is responsible for releasing the unlock token.
The cheap phone thing doesn't make sense, though. You can easily unlock the very cheap Huawei Summit and load CyanogenMod 7.2 on it. I did it for my mom's Summit.

If you genuinely can't be bothered to flash the KDZ and make it work, you probably don't need an unlocked boot loader. The fact that they unlocked the P760 allowed all of us to get unlocked bootloaders and I think that's plenty enough.

if it makes you feel better guys, samsung is claiming ALL us versions that are carrier branded will be locked.

I would have like to see the T-Mobile one still be unlocked.
Especially since they are then uncarrier and all.
I've never owned a nexus. Think it's time or a dev edition m8. But then again jump monthly payments still makes me think twice

I am wondering if this method will work on our devices.

it will not, this uses odin and flashes a custom image onto your device. with the locked bootloader it means you will be waiting until someone pushes out an exploit that works with the device.
Chain fire has released a root for our devices....ran the auto root on my phone and its running flawlessly

Does Titanium Backup or any other root-based app work?

How did you flash it... Can you post a screenshot with proof of root?

So if it worked than that would mean the Tmo bootloader is in fact not locked as some have said it would be.
