[Hangouts Event] Sony Tablet Bootloader Discussion - Sony Tablet S

On the 1st to the 3rd of September we will discuss on Hangouts about how are we going to get to flash custom ROMs and other stuff such has exploiting/bypassing the bootloader and/or boot process and more.
So how do you join in?, PM me your email address with the subject "STBD" and I shall start the discussion on that day.
When?, on the 1st it would be all day but of course you would have to eat so we would have to have a break there and then get back on, on the 2nd it would be 9AM GMT+01:00 to any time at night.
You can really join every day at 3PM GMT, on the 4th of September I am unable to attend the discussion until further notice.
In the weekends it is ANY time as well just to keep it in a good pace (just remember I am talking about Saturday and Sunday when I say any time!).

@biablo
@psxpetey

So far:
We found some files which blocks JTags and a unlock key.
I have created a R5A Recovery ADB Driver which works but recovery keeps rejecting most if not some ADB commands.
Go to this thread for the custom driver: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2429662

Just corrected it lol.
I doubt that the Sony VAIO developers would do anything about it since that it is there job to keep it closed or they will get fired.

Just a quick thing to put out there, the R5A recovery now uses some other protocol instead of ADB so it is still exploitable.

Yeah, that would be the script to automatically start installing the OTA.
The OTA is in the cache partition to be there temporarily.
Why did Sony call it Auto"Magic"?
Anyway it's the best that we talk about this tomorrow on Hangouts or this would become the new hangouts.

I will try to find time to write everything up some
someone hopefully can continue the work.

I think the DMCA has an exemption for jailbreak and root, at least on cell phones, hence it is illegal for Sony to lock the bootloader and prevent installation of other software on devices which we own. We can look through the law and see if we can provide a formal challenge to Sony on this matter.

Why should you hope Sony get a penalty? I thought this was about getting the bootloader unlocked not getting Sony fined. I just want them to fix it so the Tablet S is something use able rather than declared obsolete and unsupported such a short time after release. I want to see Sony supporting the early adopters of its Tablets rather than discarding them!

They probably added in closed source code that comes from other companies, Qualcomm has there code closed source hence why when Sony released their AOSP build, for the Xperia Z, it was missing stuff. Being able to root/jailbreak/unlock bootloader is all in the grey area of the law.

Firmware OTA update 1.29 AT&T

bnicsk8guy said:
This morning while I was simply just surfing YouTube I got a prompt asking me to start downloading a firmware update. I accepted and let it download but have no idea what it is. It's a 228 mb file. When it finished downloading nothing happened. Went to the AT&T Software Update menu and it says "Continue Update" but when I hit it nothing happens. Anyone have a clue? Could it be the 1.29 update?

Well you guys have echoed the sentiments pretty well here.
OP, we don't hold information ransom for monetary remuneration. We do this because we love development and helping others.
Normally I would say something humorous and sarcastic and close with a zing, but today I am going to kindly ask that you re-read the rules and realize that this is a live and close community, and as you can see from the replies here the community does not take kindly to efforts to extort money for information, files, beta access, or anything like that.
We are here for further mobile development and maybe have a bit of fun while doing it
Thanks for understanding.

Also I would like to request an app that can either block you from xda or block you from spamming new threads.

I'd encourage you to download the google SDK and become familiar with the Java+Android APIs. Basic and basic 4 android have their limitations besides that.
Unless you're extremely familiar with BASIC (even if you're extremely familiar with BASIC), i would probably go java . Things are really nice in android studio nowadays (most notably, the "intellisense")

Try with C++ or Java, if you learn one you'll know 90% of the other -- that's what our java professor told us(8+ years ago) over and over and it's true
You'll need:
- Free time(lots of it)
- Patience(you might write something that's perfectly good but for some weird reason it gets you errors and all you see is that you missed a ";" somewhere )
- Reading(either from a book, or web) about syntax, about how to think like a programmer
What you can do with that?
Heck if ur good enough you can go as deep as a kernel programmer and why not make a 3.18.13 kernel for our 1+1 (haahha, kidding to do that you much be really crazy, you'll need to be a guru programmer also kernels are using C afaik not c++ and they are different, also going to 3.18.13 requires drivers(not open source, companies keep them for themselves) although you can do some mods and although not be a complete 3.18.13 to be close to that)
Any updates on this regarding development? Would love to see this happen!

Where I am starting ...
Because I am a new user, I have to create 10 posts before I can share a link, but what I did was search "firefoxos oneplus one" and I clicked on the link with the title, "Installing FireFox OS on a mobile device, " for me it was the third link.
After reading through a bit It would seem the first step would be to get the OS running on an emulator that works and then port that image to an Oneplus One emulator.
