[Q] Europe/German release date? - Sony Xperia Z Ultra

Cheers Folks,
for the time being the dealers mostly show the 06.09. as the start date for their deliveries of the XZU here in Germany, which still is a tough period for waiting patiently...
But whilst the time from June they were also quite unisono stating the 23.09. and some further dates.
Due to the dragging devlopement of LTE offers here, the LTE Version of the XZU would be nice to have but not hardly neccessary.
So if the release date will be in 3 or up to 4 weeks, i would cancel my preorder and go for a 3G Version from China.
So does anyone has a definite info when Sony will roll out the devices in Europe / Germany?
Thanks already now for some input.

Release date in the UK is set to sept. 9th, so i guess around that date? Sony said it will get released in Q3, so we'll get it in september "no matter what", but i agree, the waiting is killing me, so i hope september 9th is the date.

Nice avatar, jack!
I'm also from Düsseldorf
Waiting for the SBH52, hopefully it will be released together with the XZU in germany.

Same date here in sweden too. I can't hold it much longer! :fingers-crossed: But I want the LTE version otherwise I would have ordered it from Asia.

The shop were i've placed the preorder now states 4 working days for delivery, which would mean that they have to get it on wednesday to deliver it overnight on thursday.
Let's cross fingers they're not promising too much.

Release date slipped now to the 09.09. on trader side, which will then be in line with the leaked release overview that was spread for the SGN3
Delivery then should take place then on the 10.09.
Still early enough to take along the LTE Version with European Support.

This is starting to **** me up a bit ...
Now the online-shops over here started to pass on the release date again - actually they're up to the 13.09., which then would be in line with the UK statement but still already a week later then announced initially.
But why Sony is not able to provide a clear and explicit statement, especially in the course of the current IFA?
Seems to me, that they're using the devices in HK & Singapore as Beta Testers for a smoother European rollout.

Sony hasn't given us a specific date as far as i know, but that doesn't stop the stores to speculate. Some stores won't add a date at all or add a "late date" since they haven't got a specific date. Other stores will add a much earlier date so people will pre-order one (that's cash in the bank for them), and then they'll just push the date until they get them. Sony said Q3, and Q3 is over in 3 weeks, so we'll get it in september. My guess is next week.
Rule of thumb; don't ever pre-order anything without having an official release date.

In my profession i got so called off the books, verbal and non written contacts to the decision makers, which grants me a fundament to make my preparations on the quiet. If i don't have them, i keep my fingers still and my mouth shut providing better nothing, then something again and again wrong.
But it's a more general topic of communication and information policy. Even Samsung is able to state the release date directly in the release show. And we dont have to talk about the overall quality of Samsung beyond performance, right?
So its on the one hand surely the scruffy behaviour of the traders. But this wont be the case, if Sony would communicate in a proper way to make proper business.
In the end this all does not influence my preorder. If i made a decision that i want a product, then it's rock solid and even delivery times won't affect that.
Just a way to ease the pain, and ... communicate

From the really beginning I heard mid September, for earlier date it is only shop speculations. The firmware .510 isn't totally stable as there is still the black screen when uncheck Optimized backlight and restart the phone. Main reason the phone came out in developing Asian countries is to give a large scale test for the device and develop a stable phone when released in EU and USA.
It'll be in Europe soon and you'll enjoy a full functional phone

I preordered from Clove.co.uk and they state on the site that they'll receive the first batch on the 12th and start shipping on the 13th.
I had it shipped via FedEx to Italy so I guess I will be playing with it Monday or Tuesday...
Here in Italy I personally asked in several shops (~6) and they look at me like they just seen an alien, and tell me the only 6+inches device they know of is the "great" Galaxy Mega.
Then I lol a bit and get the F off those shops, keeping in mind to come back with the device and shove it in their faces.

Sony on their part now lists two different versions over here in Germany.
First "Coming soon"
http://shop.sonymobile.com/de/buy/xperia-z-ultra-black/1275-9772/
Second "End of September"
http://www.sony.de/product/smartphones/xperia-z-ultra
Both are official Sony websites / stores.
But 2 different official "statements" of the same company would fit in the "not mentioniong anything solid" circle ...

Mytrendyphone says it is in stock, made for german market.
Purple: http://www.mytrendyphone.co.uk/shop/sony-xperia-z-114592p.html
White: http://www.mytrendyphone.co.uk/shop/sony-xperia-z-114553p.html
Black: http://www.mytrendyphone.co.uk/shop/sony-xperia-z-114541p.html
A bit more expensive than other stores but it's the first store I've seen that has the LTE version in stock in Europe :good:

Would not trust them, especially when, as usual, the Purple color will come later than the classical White/Black.
That I'm sure of.

Their "In Stock" looks like gambling to me, especially as they're buying time with the "usually dispatched within 3-7 days" instead of usual delivery time.
Sadly the live chat is offline, would be good to get a further statement of them.

I agree with you, also their products is always more expensive if not double the price in some cases compared to many other stores. I see it more like a sign that the Z ultra perhaps is arriving in some stores now.

For the same price I bought it from Clove.co.uk getting the SW2 and the SBH20 attached... I'd say their price is asking waaaaay too much
On the other hand, if you look at the listing price here in Italy is around that, so I wouldn't be surprised going around London or Milan seeing the Z Ultra on display with that price.
Let's not forget we ARE NOT the majority of people, and that the majority will discover the mere existence of this device when window shopping maybe for Christmas...
Furthermore, I would be willing to bet that nobody will rise an eyebrow seeing the premium price, as for the simple customer bigger equals more expensive.

So Sony Germany via Twitter came back on my request ... but at the end of the day, the statement isn't really worth the time they've spent on writing it.
"The Xperia Z Ultra will be release soon. No appointed day known."
Beyond that a german carrier (o2 Germany, Telefonica) also came back, giving an impression of optimism mixed with unknowingness - at least in my opinion.
If the "soon" of Sony is going along with the "this week" of o2 - praise the lord ... Mighty king of honor and smartphones, it's here.

So the traders here are giving green lights for avalibility.
Mine sent me the delivery confirmation this morning, and with the overnight service i'll get it by tomorrow.
Finally

It's available in Norway now. Some carriers have got it, so I guess it's a sign that it's now officially released.

Not that I think I'm entitled to a product at 1/3 the cost of its manufacture, but the tease is getting old...
(Not to mention, I really want to know how other people keep beating me to the punch. Are there really people out there that waste more time on gadget blogs/XDA than me?)
Well, I got two before the store opened at $99, saw geeksquad outside, asked a guy about it, and he offered to sell me early. Got home and saw the pricing error, I really hope the guy doesn't get in trouble, but I got two. I feel bad but is was an honest mistake.
Got one before store opened as well. 99....guess I got lucky.

I've always wondered what the laws/courts specifically say about situations like this. While I understand that businesses shouldn't be held to honest mistakes. What if a typo or printing error meant a car dealer had to sell all his cars for $1, he would obviously go out of business if he was required to honor the advertisement.
On the other hand, somebody can definitely claim intentional false advertising or a bait-and-switch type thing. Get people to the store, then say "Ohhh, it was a mistake . . . but why don't you buy it anyway for full price while you're here?"
I was told that i will be given credit of $200 for price adjustment this morning. Hopefuly they carry through with it.
Otherwise, I'm prepared to pay the $300 like I agreed to in the beginning. I just hope they don't eff things over like they have a reputation for doing.
Just bought one for 99.99 from a best buy "vending machine" in the las vegas airport!
Pretty lucky if I do say so myself.
I got one as soon as the store opened. They honored the shelf price, then took down the $99 tag.
They canceled my online order .

Walked in at 9:55am. I grabbed the very last one. I saw people running in as i walked out lol! I still think the HP Touchad was a better steal at $99.

No way. The Flyer is head and shoulders better than the Touchpad - no matter how good the Cyanogenmod group is, it will always be a hack. The Flyer is purebred Android through and through.

It depends on the applicable consumer protection laws--those usually differ from state to state (not that greatly) but it is general practice to honor the advertised price. There's mostly case law on it, but it's arguable to a point.
Contracts was so long ago ...
This, the Touchpad firesale and especially the Amazon Fire (250k orders in 5 days) send the industry (and hopefully HTC) a clear message: people want low priced tablets.
Exactly... they expected me to pay the same amount on the tablet as I did for my laptop, which can perform better in every single category (even in battery life).
(Acer 4820TG with SSD)
And who cares about the "iPad killer?" It pisses me off how many companies and review sites use Apple as the standard for everything. The only reason why they're successful is that they actually use common sense when designing their products and they come out with products BEFORE everyone else (which I think is kinda important).
Just make an attractive device without the iPad's price tag!

Yes, and compared to the Flyer, the Fire is a slower and limited device. Your get what you pay for
The Flyer is a fine device at $300. Any lower has to be a loss, based on quality and features of the device.

Having to honor the advertised price is what I would think, from what little I know about the consumer protection laws. But it seems this kind of thing happens all the time, where retailers state that an advertised price was an error. I'm on Newegg's email list, and it seems like every couple months they send out a message saying so-and-so price was an error, and they apologize, blah blah. It would seem that these retailers would be out of business, if they had to honor every advertised price that was a mistake. And the mistake might not even be theirs, but the fault of an ad agency, typo in newspaper, etc.
I wonder if promptly sending out a correction helps their case? Conventional wisdom (which of course does not always apply to the law!) would seem to dictate that making a conscious effort to quickly inform the public of the error, would help deflect any claims of intentional false advertising.
What's crazy us that if you look it up via the mobile app, it is still listed at $99. I have mine already, but seeing that price is tempting.

Prime Manufacturing Rumors

Scratch all that as well, here's a quote from a Best Buy employee in this thread:
Quixion2008 said:
As a current Best Buy employee(Senior at Purdue University(Seasonal employee)...(the same on helping a good amount of this forum get grey docks ahead of schedule) I believe I can shed some light on this issue. Today while using our inventory management software (RSS) I looked up the grey 32 TF201. In BEST BUYS system the sku has been DISCONTINUED. This generally happens when we are no longer receiving that particular model of a computer or tablet physically in stores in the future. This is, in my opinion, not what is going on. As most have noticed the grey 32 prime has been pulled from BBY.com. Only the CG is even on the site. The grey was taken down and given a "secret sku" that was to be used for those who had pre ordered a CG and were given the opportunity to switch to grey. This sku has gotten out to the forums and has been being used to order grey 32 primes online through BBY.com. I suspect BBY is changing the sku so this can no longer be done, and giving the prime a dedicated sku for in store availability which should be occurring within the next 2-3 weeks.
The prime is here to stay.

Also, I never knew this forum was fulled with /b/tards. Shoulda inb4 OP is a troll.
Scratch all that, just talked to a support rep. They're done manufacturing the First model of it. They've got a second model they're planning to roll out this month (just like ICS would be available before the end of the year). That would explain why Best Buy assumed it's done, discontinued the first version of the TF201. Perhaps a TF211? Feel free to call 'em up and ask if it's been discontinued. They should respond with something along the lines of Lol new model! Or something to that effect. Waiting for a supervisor to call me up tomorrow.
Just got off the phone the Best Buy.com floor manager, and *apparently* Asus is no longer manufacturing the Prime. I wanted to return it for a REPLACEMENT, and nobody could answer one simple question: Do you have one in stock to replace it with? I got to the supervisor and he simply told me it was done, gave me a direct number to Asus. He also told me to file an RMA and that Asus would try to fix it, and if they couldnt, then I'd get a same or better one.
Great.
I'm calling Asus to see what's up. I'll update the OP with more info. I want my damn Prime fixed...
I'd appriciate it if someone else called Best Buy to see if this true. Get to a live person, and ask for their supervisor. The guy I got was 'Micheal'. Be sure to ask for his name to see if it's the same guy. Thanks
lol.

that's because thing is littered with some minor manufactured defects.
oh well, at least it will go up in value
also I bet HASBRO had something to do with this too. Glad I got mines before the court ordered junction was put in place.
LOL, please don't tell me your gonna believe this? Then Asus will probably also be done.
Just delete useless threads like this, thanks.
One thing you should learn pretty quickly is to never believe anything a dumb store manager or CSR tells you.
Im guessing they think they are talking about the OG transformer.
Or did we bully Asus somuch it just up and quit the whole thing?
bwaaa ha ha WTF? BB employees are like VZW employees, I often know more then they do about their own products, thus I don't trust comments like this 1 bit.
i don't know guys, i think the Best Buy.com floor manager is a pretty reliable source...you didn't get to become "floor manager" for nothing....
Maybe the BB floor manager is sick n tired of dealing with all the botched prime exchanging?

Yeah, probably the OG Transformer.
How the heck would a BestBuy *floor manager* get wind of something faster than Endgaget, ITworld, Anandtech, The Verge and the rest of the technocrat blogosphere?
There is a higher probability of Bigfoot doing the Mambo in Time Square
He probably meant the TF101 original Transformer. It makes perfect business sense to phase out the TF101, now that it's replacement is coming to market.

if anything bby doesn't have a proper in store stock date so their system is screwed up. no one on CS or at the store level has any idea of what's going on as far as manuf or actual stock beyond what their inventory system shows them, and that system is a piece of crap (unless they updated it significantly after i quit from there, which i doubt)
the only actually plausable thing one can take from this is they are for some reason giving the new batches a different sku and discontinuing the old one.

Yeah best buy also told me that Asus wasn't coming out with the Prime back in december.
Major bugs, horrible design flaw and dishonest sales tactics mixed together with a name that is clearly ripped off from hasbro will lead to its demise.
Prime could have been a real winner but Asus just couldn't live up to it.
They will probably stop making the current bugged out and defective units and redesign it with a plastic back and rename it to the Asus Tranny.

Are you having prime nightmares?

I started to post this on someone else post but I think (instead of hijacking) it needs its own.
My experience has been a nightmare. I purchased my tf201 on Jan 5th and waited until the 15 before I received it; not too bad. I had poor wifi and no GPS even after upgrading to ICS and applying the OTA update meant to fix said issues so I called Asus and got an RMA. I tools them I needed it back by Feb 10th so I could return it to the place of purchaseif it wasn't fixed properly. They told me turn around time would be 7 days (first lie) and there would be no problem meeting this timeline. I mailed it USPS priority and tracked the package; they received it on the 24th but by the 26th still hadn't updated the status so I called and they confirmed they had it, said turnaround time was 7 days and and I would receive an update shortly. By Feb 1st they updated the status but showed they received it on Jan 28th (what? Reaching should the 24th and customer support confirmed this? Also the 28 was Saturday;a noon business day..) I called back on Feb 5th because the status hadn't changed online and was told they hasn't looked at it yet and admitted there was an use with that, then they said turn around time was 10-14 days but sine w were in that window the 7 day lie didn't matter.. I told them to just mail it back while I can still return it fixed or not and they said they'd elevate the issue;I would hear from them within 24 to 48 hrs later. On the 7th (48hrs later) I still hadn't heard from them and called them back. They couldn't tell me why no one contacted me, still had my prime and offered to elevate my issue again (what does that do? It did nothing last time..) I asked to speak to a manager and they got one. She told me they had 10-14 days from the tune they started looking at it NOT the time the received it (seriously? WTF?) I asked her if that meant they could sit in it for 30 days and then still have two weeks? She replied that 30 days would be unusual. I told her to send my prime back because I only had until the 10th to return it and I was very frustrated at this point. She asked why I would want it back induced and I told her I didn't I just wanted to get my $500 back while I still could, she said she'd elevate the issue with urgency and two day shipping, I would hear something within 24 hrs. As of today Feb 11th (well past the 24hr timeline), I still haven't heard from Asus and have past my product return date. I had the product in hand for less than 5 days and had to pay shipping to my house and to Asus, Ive purchased accessories and Im pissed. I feel like Asus has purposefully held on to my prime to keep me from returning it; this is crazy. I've tried everything I can think of and need help but what can I do? I tried sending a PM to Gary Keys but he was in Japan and never responded (i'm also a long time reader and first time poster here on XDA which may be why he hesitated to respond).. Thanks again
what's your nightmare?

I don't think that's true. From the number of RMAs being reported they're probably just overwhelmed. There have also been reports of delays because of parts shortages.
Do we even know if the TX facility is "Asus" or is it sub-contracted to a third-party? Yours is the third case of devices being logged-in well after they've been received. Repair centers are kind of like contact centers. "Time to repair" is one of the metrics they measure. So logging it in later than its received improves that metric.
I actually do have nightmares about my Prime. They pretty much appear as me flushing $500 down the toilet. A very dirty toilet that hasn't been flushed / cleaned in weeks.
Then again, I also have the good dreams where the Prime is letting me force my friend to watch the Matrix on her 60" LED TV in her living room.

I don't have time to write a book right now but its been a nightmare for me too Gary posted in one of my threads saying Asus will give me a refund but ill believe it when I see it..... Good luck bro
Traditionally, I have almost always had bad experiences when dealing with RMAs. Thankfully I haven't had to send my Prime in for anything, but after hearing some of these stories I probably won't send mine in unless something major is wrong with it. (i currently have a tiny bit of light bleed on the right side of the screen, but it isn't enough to get me worked up about)
The only positive RMA experience I have ever had was with a wireless logitech keyboard that I was having charging problems with. I called logitech, explained the problem and they sent me a brand new one with expedited shipping. I simply had to return the one i was having problems with in the box that the new one came in. Logitech then inspects the keyboard that you send back to ensure the problem was not caused by misuse (water damage, accidental damage, etc.) If they do find something that was obviously caused by misuse (aka, you were trying to screw them) then they charge your credit card for the cost of a new keyboard. As a consumer I really appreciate this type of RMA as I was never without the keyboard. It would be nice if ASUS was doing something like this, but i suppose with the limited availability of the Prime to begin with, they don't want to send you a replacement Prime up front that they could have otherwise put on a store shelf and sold.
Edit:
Also, if I were in your shoes I would not have sent it in for RMA if you were still within your return window. I would have held on to it a little longer to see if the problems you were having are really that big of a deal. If the problems were that bothersome then you could have returned it to where ever you bought it for a full refund or exchanged it. It sounds like you did not have the Prime very long before you shipped it off to them to fix.
The more I think about it the more I think I should have just returned it. The wifi issue mattered to me because at distances grated than 15 feet from my router (wrt3800) I had no reception and I wanted GPS for apps like red box, urban spoon and shop savvy. What I can't believe its Asus would shop an item that fails in so many ways. AllI want is an item that works as advertised our my money back; is that too much to ask? My daughters 2 year old, $250 ViewSonic g tablet with flashback works better than this... If u could get the g tablet with a high Rez screen I would have never bought this hunk of junk.

I don't think that's true. From the number of RMAs being reported they're probably just overwhelmed. There have also been reports of delays because of parts shortages.

Even if they are just overwhelmed by RMAs, they should still be honest with their customers and regular updates by email or telephone if it takes longer then they promised. It's their own fault that this product has so many RMAs. it's obviously NOT READY to be release and they rushed it trying to be the 1st.
It was a big mistake by the OP for returning a product for repair when it's still within the return period to the place of purchase. Let the retailers deal with Asus and maybe then it'll put a dent in their profit. Money speaks louder. After hearing all these RMA horror stories, Asus services are not to be trusted and should be used as last resort. I would complain to their headquarters and send emails to the board members until someone takes notice. I have already returned my 1st Prime for reasons everyone are aware of. I'm waiting for either Samsung's version of the Quadcore or (don't hate me) Apple iPad 3.
sirnice is right, I should have never given Asus the chance to screw me w with this rma situation. Best buy would have taken the unit back easily enough.. My problem is I've bought Asus motherboards since the amd XP processor came out and have always loved Asus; I truly expected more...

Here's an update: pmed Gary Key again, this time he responded quickly. He had been our of the country and missed my first message. Asus sent me a brand new tablet and it works flawlessly. I an able to see 12 says in my house and lock onto 10.I couldn't be happier with the final results. I went from the bk to the c1 sn..
Thank you Garry!

[Q] Did you manage to get/order your Nexus 10?

Just a poll to see the numbers.
It wil be useful to see the ratio of those that didn't manage to get an order off to those that did/already received it.
Mines out foe delivery today! should get it soon
Ordered 32GB version from the UK playstore. No word yet on shipping. Anyone else from the UK ordered/received theirs?
I ordered 2 pieces one 16 and one 32 gb. The 32 gb per accident, but I thought about it and preferred the 32gb one. The 16 gb Version I have cancelled. Others want to have one, too!
The 32 gb Version was shipped yesterday and at the moment DHL is shipping it to me. Can't wait until receive it taday!
Ordered mine on Nov 13 and still hasent shipped yet. And I live in CA where Google's headquarters is. Im waiting on the shipped email to be forwarded to me from my father(it was a gift bought under his gmail account). This is driving me mad!

Tell us more! I'm so greedy for more information.
Haha, happy to oblige. Much like the N7, it feels like a premium tab to me. Everything I've tried so far has been beautifully smooth. The screen is every bit as good as people have said it is. Got no problems with light bleed on this one so can't comment on that. I was sceptical when I first read about the layout but having used it it doesn't bother me in the slightest.
Also just finished downloading Amazing Spider-Man and it looks stunning on this display.

How about the size? Is using the keyboard a stretch on the 10-incher? That's really my biggest concern at this point. Thanks

Got my shipping info today as well. There are 3 shipping schemas: If you're on the east coast, it ships from the west coast. If you're on the west coast, it ships from the east coast. If you're in between, they ship the box from the east, device from the west and the shipping label from canada - then they assemble it all and repost it from Iowa.

Personally I find it very comfortable to hold either one or two-handed. Even though it's a big unit it's very well designed. Using the keyboard on this is really a question of how easy it is to use a keyboard on a 10inch tablet in general rather than the N10 specifically. Personally I'd say it's no easier or harder. I love the new keyboard itself, to the point where for the first time ever I may well continue using a stock android keyboard.
Ordered my 32gb 10 the morning they were released... After many, many tries!
Got my UPS tracking # last night but still doesn't work as of a few minutes ago. Just want to know the projected delivery date!
Finally updated, says it's in Kentucky. Why ship two day on a Thursday??
C'mon, Google. For $14 shipping you can do better.
Still hoping it will update for delivery tomorrow...

My Nexus shipped around 5PM the day before. With things like this I think Google and Fedex have the whole thing planned. Google just gives them pallets of devices and Fedex does the rest.
When your talking about 100s of thousands or possibly millions of dollars for one "order" fedex will move mountains to make things happen

i have to agree with this.
i really hope this time around, they ship from canada to canada. when i got my nexus 4 it came from east usa somwhere, and got stopped in fargo because of 1 cm of snow...
In my experience it ships from Google's warehouse in California. Close to where they are headquartered.
This will most likely be the case this time too.

This is where the UK Falls over, Delivery services are absolutely rubbish! Cost £9.99 for postage, (Approx $14) for 2-3 Days delivery, and will be lucky to get it on the 3rd day...

Im in the midwest. So my 5PM is your 6PM.
I think right now the warehouse employees are just sticking tons and tons and tons of shipping labels on boxes with G watches in them. Then Fedex (maybe UPS if they changed carriers since Nexus 5) will pick them up. Then we SHOULD get it tomorrow if you did one day shipping.
One can pray and do rain dances to hope lol
Every device I've preordered I've gotten before or the day of launch so laws of the universe maintain that won't change so we are all safe and will have some g watch goodness tomorrow....at least I hope.

Same thing happened for me with my N10 I dind't get a notification until like 4AM and it came 6 hours later lol.
My order updated to show Leaving ON July 3rd. So My guess is I'll get the confirmation email around midnight of or early morning of July 4th with tracking info. Being that, likely going to be Monday since I doubt it will be delivered on Saturday even for 1 day shipping.
