[Q] Samsung galaxy note n7000 camera failed issue please help - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

hi I got a samsung galaxy note n7000 last week on ebay. The seller wrote in his advertisement, that the camera doesn't work, so I knew what I was buying. Every time I open the camera app (or any other apps that use the camera; front and back) the app freezes, the screen is black (apart from the camera functions and the viewfinder) and then tells me "camera failed" and closes. I have tried to go into app settings to force the app to close and clear cache but nothing. I also flashed several different stock roms (from gingerbread to jellybean with factory reset and clear cache in the hidden android menu before phone start). But no luck either. I even bought a new rear camera and installed it, in hope it would solve the problem (which it didn't) but it must be software related, as the front camera doesn't work either.
Any idea guys as to what I can do to get the camera working again? Phone is updated with the latest software and so are all the apps. I checked with memory card and without and formatted memory card and phone...PLEASE HELP :'(
Thank you in advance for your help.

i9100M camera suddenly stopped working (black screen)

Hi Folks,
I've had my Galaxy SII (i9100M - Canadian version, Virgin Mobile) for a while now.
I've had it rooted for the last 8 months, and about 3 months ago I started running the ICS betas. The camera all of this time has been working fine.
I was testing Simplistic rom (basically from the first release up until RC8 or whatever the last one was) and sometime in between that process my camera stopped working. I've since flashed CM9 using Odin several times, and still nothing. Recently I tried to flash back to one of Samsung's releases of ICS and still nothing.
Whenever I launch the camera I get a black screen with the camera controls. It just hangs if I try to take a pic.
I've searched around here and haven't found an answer -- any insight you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
two things you can maybe try,
have you tried clearing the app data on your camera?
also, have you tried a third party camera app like camera360?
it sounds like this is a problem with your hardware camera and not the app itself though so i am not sure if either of these approaches will work
Guys, I found a solution.
I flashed back to Gingerbread and used the Samsung Camera Update app that is on another thread in this forum. It updated the firmware and the camera started working.
The Camera Update app does not work on ICS... so it was a long and painful process, but worth it.
I reflashed CM9 after and the camera is still working. Odd! Just in case anyone else has this problem... here is a potential solution.

[Q] How to fix camera problem?

Since I updated OTA to 2.3.6 build 4.5.141, I have been experiencing a problem with the camera as it shows a black screen (both still and video) and crashes after that.
I am willing to root the phone and install flash a ROM if that could be helpful. I tried a factory reset, SD format/unmount, battery pull, reboot, and everything possible with an unrooted device.
Warranty period is over so I can't ask for a replacement.
Any help is appreciated.
Camera
I had similar problems with upgrading to ICS Roms.
I fixed the problems with installation of Videocam Illusion and ProCapture or FastBurst Camera. I don't know if it is suitable for your Rom.
The only problem I see now with these apps is that I can't open, let say, ProCapture or FastBurst and after any camera or camcorder apps. The only to get these apps to work is to reboot.
Not working
Thanks for your feedback.
But I tried installing all those apps but they all give the same problem (black screen, which later freezes). I tried changing the resolution of the camera and then the camera app did not open at all saying: camera unable to initialize.
Occasionally, it shows a large camera icon in front of the screen and then it just closes down saying 'Activity Camera (in application Camera) not responding.
I do still think it is a software (not a hardware) problem because the phone has not been exposed to any physical damage whatsoever and everything else works smoothly on it.
I am already considering getting a replacement camera but thought I'd exhaust all other options before doing so as it does take a while to get a replacement. Luckily, it is under warranty.
Thanks again.
Id you're looking for a good stock based rom id try nottachrix. I've been on it roughly 2 months no issues

[Q] Nexus 5 front camera problem ( desperate for help)

I just have a problem that has been bugging me for a while with my Nexus 5 (4.4.2)(not rooted) and i cant seem to find a fix for it. i've been all over the forums about it yet the only case i found similar to mine the guy went and exchanged his nexus for a new one from LG.
so heres the issue, my front camera just does not exist anymore, it was working fine the first couple of weeks then one day i just realized i don't have the front camera option anymore on the camera app. that option is no longer there instead of 5 options there are only 4 options being listed (HDR+ / +- (Exposure) / settings / flash ) it used to be after flash. the flip option was there and now flip option is no longer there. i cleared the cache and did every possible thing mentioned online and it still didn't work. i downloaded focal and it couldn't connect to the front camera. even instagram/snapchat does not have the flip option anymore. is there any solution or fix for this?
i still haven't performed a factory reset i'm leaving it as a last resort.
things i've tried:
- restarting in safe mode (still no front camera option).
- uninstalling apps that might have access to front camera.
- clearing caches.
-installing other camera apps like focal. (which has the option but its unable to connect.)
i hope i made my problem clear enough and i thank you for giving your time to help me on this.
The only time I've seen this before is when it happened to me on a phone about two years ago, it was hardware and after replacing the camera it worked perfect. Not saying this is your issue but it sounds super familiar. Try a factory reset, if it doesn't work RMA it with Google
Best of luck!

[Q] Can't connect to camera

Hello everybody I am new here and before posting this question I have read similar posts searching for my answer but none of them regarded my specific problem:
I just got a Star N7189 with android 4.2.1 and the first thing I did, because it was a used phone that my dad gave me, was to perform a factory reset.
My dad told me the phone was fine except the camera didn't worked, so I thought the factory reset could also help to fix this.
After the reset everything in the phone is fine and running without any problem except the camera. In first place there isn't even a camera icon or app, the only way I can access the camera is by sliding the screen after I press the lock/unlock button, and after a second of thinking it gives me the 'can't connect to camera' error.
I haven't installed any application or anything.
Is there any way to fix this? Thanks in advance.
just install another camera app

I've tried several other camera apps and all give me errors. All other apps run fine but apps that need to connect to the camera just fail and shut down lol maybe the phone doesn't have a camera at all and the lens in the back is just to pretend

[Q] Can't Switch Between Front and Back Camera on HTC First

So, when I first got my HTC First, everything was working just fine, specifically the camera. But a while ago my camera stopped showing the button to switch between the front and back camera. I've Googled my life away trying to find a fix for this, only finding results for the HTC One M8. I've tried clearing the cache for the camera app (though there is no 'Camera' app, it just says 'Gallery' when I open the camera's app details.) Has anyone else experienced this, or come up with any fixes for it? By the way i'm rooted on stock Jelly Bean 4.1.2 ROM and CWM Recovery if any of that helps. Though, this problem started long before I rooted my device.
Tried another camera app?
I have, i've tried a couple other camera apps, but recently I decided to clean up some space. Then I rebooted my device and it seems to work now, though it still goes out every once in a while. It seems like it was just a matter of space available on my internal SD for some reason. My best guess is it's a RAM issue.
