[Source Code Posted] Nokia App Updates by HERG-A-FIED - Windows Phone 8 Apps and Games

Microsoft has denied my app from being published yet there are other apps like mine still in the store. I have asked what I did wrong and all I get is a snob response of:
Hello Robert,
The app was removed because it allows users to install apps on their device that bypass security measures on the Windows Phone Store. The app will not be restored, so you may not submit updates. This is our final communication regarding this issue.
Thank you,

So instead of trying to fight Microsoft I am posting my SOURCE CODE and I am jumping from Windows Phone Development and moving to Android. Yes I was a Windows Fan but now I am finished forever with Microsoft.
My source code if you want to use it is found here on my skydrive - http://sdrv.ms/16hCWRz

Thanks!!

Version 2 Submitted for Cetification
I have submitted V2 update on both apps (NOKIA APP UPDATES & SAMSUNG APP UPDATES)
Samsung V2 change log is:
Update 2.0.1.0
In light theme the background was not displayed correctly. This update fixes that issue.
____________________
In Nokia V2 change log is:
Update 2.0.0.0
I would like to thank my friend RAM for helping me with this upgrade.
Redesigned app from the App Studio Beta into C# Language.
When you click on link IE will not open, instead it goes directly to the store download.
Added AppBar at the bottom.
In AppBar, rate link goes directly to the rate app review, now able to share link, added e-mail link direct to me if any issues or letting me know about an app that needs adding, link to my other apps for download.
________________________________________________________________
Again these versions have just been submitted and both are in the certification stage. It will take a bit before the new version will show up so please be patient with me.
Thanks HERG62123 :fingers-crossed:
The pictures below are from V2 which is being certified.

Nokia App Updates V2 now posted in the link in Post #1.
Samsung App Updates V2 is also posted.

Ok I have updated both apps and are in the process of being certified.
As of right now V2 is up and posted but in the up coming V2.0.1.0 the changes are as follows:
Nokia App Updates V2.0.1.0 - added Connectivity Pro+ and Unit Converter Pro+
Samsung App Updates V2.0.1.0 - In the light theme background was not set correctly so this update fixes that issue.

V2.0.1.5 - Samsung App Updates being certified as we speak/
Added a donate link if user wants to donate but not in away to upset user
Made buttons smaller due to accidental opening while flipping

I am using it in my nokia 920 and it has scrolling issue. means it does not scroll at all. instead it opens the app that i do not want to when trying to scroll. so actually instead of scrolling up or down it pushes the spot where i want to scroll up or down and the app that is in there opens.

Microsoft pulled my app - here is their response to me

As you can see Microsoft has no bed side manners.

Planning on uploading the xap then?

I think about security issues for Windows phone is too much.
1. I cannot use any other keyboard directly writing in SMS or anything. I have to copy paste.
2. Call recorder is not supported as well in WP 8 as this is also security issue.
3. What else is security issue I wonder ?
4. No video transfer in Viber. I think at least this should not be security issue.
Everything is security issue in WP 8. Why Microsoft does not think that people will abandon the OS ? there are too much security issues, I did not know about it before buying my Nokia Lumia 920 developer edition. To tell the truth i keep my phone because it is Nokia not because of OS at all but soon most likely my WP will be second device and I will go back to Android and buy HTC again, great UI and fast and now they update more frequantely.

New Version being CERTIFIED NOW
Link to new version is in the code box in post one, but beware it is still being certified still

But they say Windows phone is the future how come you go to Android ? Also if windows phone has security measures, what is that security measures that you do not want to except before you app is published ? I hear about WP lot of things related to security, this is very strange for me. Even phone call recorder is security related, then keyboard app other than Microsoft to type directly in the SMS is not implemented too. And many other that keep developer away somehow. How come ? GDR 3 is coming soon and maybe some changes will be there with their policy too ?

If you look at the swype keyboard for android it actually stores what you type and sends info back to the manufacturer.
A third party KBD on the phone would mean that KBD app could harvest your passwords and send them on to a destination of choice.
Similar issues exist with the call recorder. Who should have access to those recordings? You? Google? Rovio? NSA?
So yes, your app got booted because you don't grok the security implications of what you're trying to do, and in stead of trying to understand why you just blame the OS.
Please, go develop for Android, and I hope you make tons of money in the process. Just quit being a whining little girl about it.

This client is GNU licensed and is also available on different platforms such as Android and iOS.
The WP8 version was released on 8th August 2013.

Actually it can run in background if you are using a linphone.org account. If you use your own sip server, indeed it wont work in background (your server won't send push notifications).

This app seems crashy. I start it, it sits at the loading screen and proceeds to crash to the start screen. I don't think its my sip server. At least OctroTalk partially worked.

Strange. I have been using this app for 2 weeks with my own server and it has never crashed..
Unfortunately, the app won't receive any calls if running in the background. However, it's still my best option for voip in WP8.
This one works good for making SIP calls. Don't work in the background though but it's better than nothing.

I want to buy source code of existing Windows Phone app

Hi,
I am freelancer and WP developer myself. I have several clients who want to have own WP app (because I told them that Windows Phone is a cool platform which it really is). But I do not have time on these projects because I am currently working upon other projects. It is simpler for me to buy already existing app, white label it, add new features if required, etc and sell to my clients.
That’s why I want to buy source code of already existing Windows Phone app. If you already own Windows Phone app with source codes and rights on it then I am ready to buy this app with all rights.
It does not manner what kind your app is.
If you are interested then please send me following stuff (optional):
1. Screenshots of app
2. Links to WP Store if exists
3. What is your price for this app
4. How many downloads per month this app generates (or any another rough info about downloads stat)
I will analyze this info and will probably buy your app.
Many thanks!
P.S. Sorry if I posted in wrong thread. I wanted to post this message in more specific subforum (for Windows Phone developers) but rules of this forums does not allows me to do this because I am noob.

Tumblr UWP for windows 10 mobile

I recently published a third-party tumblr app for windows 10 mobile named "Ouga", it's just a personal project, free and no ads. if someone have interest for it, you can try it and please give some feedback. Because i'm a newer, i have no permission to post link, you can visit my tumblr blog "codemonkeylr" to get link.
Good Apps
Very good:good:, there are three themes available. We are in use, have not encountered problems。thx!:fingers-crossed::laugh:
There is a problem, not search applications store。

Thanks, I don't know why it can't be searched. I have contacted microsoft for help, but i haven't received any response yet.
Support PC
I have published a new version. Now you can download and install Ouga on your all Windows 10 devices – PC, tablet, phone and more from the windows store.
Already ratet 5*. It's the best tumblr app I have ever seen. Even better than Tutle Blog viewer!
Edit: There is one single feature I miss. Being able to download pictures. There is another but that's not that important; being able to play embedded audio inside the app.
what about notifications?

because Ouga is not an official application, so can not be able to achieve real-time push notifications. The only thing i can do is pull messages every 15 minutes in the background, but it will increase the device's battery life and use much more cellular data.
Being able to save images would be great
Edit: Awesome! Can save images now, play embedded sound. I love this app.

Restricted user app selection after Oreo not working

I use restricted user profiles on the S3 to only allow my children to only access a restricted list of apps I download from the Play Store. It seems that any NEW apps that I download from the play store after the Oreo update do not show up in the list of apps (Settings > Cloud and accounts > Users, select a restricted user).
I did a factory reset this morning, and still no luck. Now only stock apps show up.
I chatted with Samsung this morning, and they want me to take it to the local walk-in Samsung clinic to have it looked at. This seems like a software issue - not a hardware issue. Perhaps Oreo changes the way this feature works - and it is an android issue not a Samsung one?
As a troubleshooting step, would any of you be willing to setup a restricted account on your S3, download a few play store apps and see if they show up to be able to enabled for the restricted account? No matter what I do, only the stock apps show up. It would be helpful to know if others have the problem as well.
I'm having the same problem, we're you able to find a solution? Only happened after the oreo update.

Thank you for reporting your experience with this to this thread. No solution as of yet. Now that I know someone else is having the same issue, I will try Samsung support again and let them know it is a problem with Oreo for all users - not just my tablet. Unfortunately, I'm guessing the best we can hope for is that it gets Samsung's attention to be included in the next update - which will likely be some time from now.
Update: I installed the Smart Tutor app from the Play Store which allowed a Samsung Support rep to see the issue. They agreed that it was not working as it should and opened issue ticket #2194272620. Hopefully this ticket will allow the issue to be noticed and fixed in a future update.

Thanks for the quick follow up! It's good that they finally acknowledged the issue at least.
Stumbled upon pretty much the same issue when I wanted to create a new restricted user account.
Before the update to Oreo; I had already a restricted account. That one has still the possibility to change the 'run' permission for apps. Not sure if it also works for new installed - I haven't tested that.

My experience was that new installed apps would not show up for the existing restricted accounts.
It will be interesting to see if the Tab S4 has this same problem
Hi all together!
Same problem here! This is a mandatory feature for me to share the tablet with my kids. Seems that the oreo update ****ed it up.
The bored Samsung support guy asked me to do a factory reset, and now, after 3 hours of configuration it still doesn't work.
Grrr !!! before the factory reset I had at least these apps working in the restricted profile I configured under android 7.
And ideas? Any update from Samsung ticket you opened?
Regards from cologne, Germany
Sui
No new ideas. I am USA but I noticed the korea build was a bit newer so I tried installing that. That didn't help but was interesting.
My understanding from the Samsung rep was that others could call and give the ticket number to get status and add a
"Me too" to it and that may help it get more attention
Having same issue on my Galaxy Tab S3 after Android 8.0.0 install. Did factor reset and still not working. Contacted Samsung using a Samsung Community of "Restricted Profile - New Apps not listed in App and Content Access Menu" and after Samsung suggesting a factory reset, which did not fix problem, they private messaged me to contact Google. I am struggling as there appears to be no way to contact Google for a response other than the mounds of help websites that do not acknowledge or provide fixes. As a parent who is trying to restrict my children's use of tablet to choke off internet and inappropriate items, I am at a loss for now and my kids are whining that they cannot play on any new apps without bugging me to let them use my signon; totally unacceptable.,
Same problem (Samsung Galaxy Tab A6, android oreo 8.1). Completely ruins my restricted account setup for the kids. They're not happy and neither am I!
Solution
"Same problem (Samsung Galaxy Tab A6, android oreo 8.1). Completely ruins my restricted account setup for the kids. They're not happy and neither am I!"
Give restricted account permission to use chrome and search for the app you require as an apk. Then install from that.
99% of apps can be found as an apk so it works as a solution until android gets there acts together and sorts it out.
Same here. I just upgraded my Galaxy Tab 10 A6 T580 to Oreo 8.1.
My kids keep asking when they can get the tablet back...
Same problem here after the Oreo update.
Old restricted accounts still have their previously enabled apps, new restricted accounts only get standard Google/Samsung apps.
New apps installed under Oreo from the Play Store do not show up in the app restrictions list.
Somehow, as restricted users also cannot use the Play Store directly, how are they supposed to get any app other than the standard ones?
This is a bug, not a feature.
If it should prevail, I will dump my Android devices and get Apple iOS phones/tablets for the rest of the family.
Same problem here too. I installed few apps after i upgraded my Galaxy Tab 10 A6 T580 to Oreo 8.1. They are not shown..so even resetted the device. Now all is gone on the redtricted users...
My kids also want to get the tablet back...
If anyone has a solution...pls let me know how!
I talked to the Samsung Germany support on Thursday. They know about and acknowledged the problem, however, there is no cure. The technician I talked to hypothesized about the upcoming Android P (roll-out to Samsung devices is planned for 2019) may fix the issue.
The point is, restricted users may also not use the Play Store to install new apps, so in effect, there is ABSOLUTELY NO WAY to get any apps except the standard stock apps into a restricted user's account. That does not make any sense at all.
Unless this is really intended (making the restricted account option useless), this looks like a gross oversight in QA on behalf of Samsung.
I'll see how this develops. My immediate solution is to use MobileFence to restrict my kids' accounts on mobiles and tablets (working with normal user accounts).

Same problem, Galaxy Tab A 10.5 (2018), Android 8.1.0 - massively frustrating!
Same problem here - is there any point in contacting Samsung to log this?
Any work around anyone can recommend? We use the tablets for a lot of lessons and set reading and the kids can't even access Kindle on it any more. I saw someone recommended Mobile Fence already, thanks.
It's causing major family tension because of how it's affecting Minecraft too. Huge frustrations.
Same here. I wonder why restricted user feature persists, it is useless now. A can assign only application installed before upgrade to Android 7.x, now on 8.1 and still no new app for assigning to restricted user.
Samsung Tab A6 (2016).
Same problem, subscribing to thread just to be able to see if there is any resolution.

Overwriting existing apps, a high level business dilemma

Hi guys, not sure if this is the right place to do this but i've got a question i hope i can get clarified here with you experts
I am a PM that is in charge of a managing the delivery and development of a business's mobile application. Recently the company is looking to get rid of the incumbent developer due to unprofessional-ism and exorbitant fees. The other technology partner i am directly engaging with is a newly appointed development house and is tasked to clone the app and add additional features the incumbent refuses to add on.
Come launch date, the business requires the new app to replace the old app. To the existing customer base, the goal is to ensure that the transition is as seamless as possible. They are hoping that when existing users open the app, they will be prompted to install an update where the old one is then replaced with the old one. As such, is it possible for the new technology partners to this? What are the necessary steps required? I am trying to ensure that all necessary precautions and dependencies are covered to ensure any potential backlash / fallout. Is it as simple as obtaining the app certificate and ensuring the apk is named exactly the same? Any advice would be helpful.
The worst case scenario here would be to get the users to reinstall the app entirely or treat it as a completely separate app. :crying:
You need the signature keys of your first developer to sign the new APK which needs to have the same package name. And access to the dev console. Then you can upload the new app which will be treated as every other update by Google Play. Without changing the first app you won't be able to force the users to update AFAIK.

While you can upload a new version of the same app the users would still have to manually (or automatically if their device is configured that way) download it. Google released a "forced update" API a while ago. If that is included in your old app that might help. Otherwise you would have to add it manually which would require access to the source code. But then the users would have to manually update too so it would be quite useless.
So one way to force them to update is to disable all APIs the app might use but that might alienate the users as they have no clue why it stopped working. So as long as you have no notification system that is working right now you have to depend on your users updating.
