Prompt for which email client? - HTC Droid DNA

Is there a way I can get my phone to prompt me for which email client I want to use when clicking an email link? Under settings in App Associations I have it set to the built in email.apk, however I can only change it to Gmail, I want to clear it completely so it will ask me. Right now I have to cut the email address and paste it into Gmail if that's what I want to use. Is there an app that can do this?

Settings > apps > stock email app > clear defaults

Thanks for the response, unfortunately I tried that already and it just goes right back, I believe because it's set under App Associations.

I've never heard of a settings section for app associations. Which ROM are you on?

ViperROM, but I'm pretty sure this in the stock ROM as well

I've hardly had either installed. Looks like you should be able to set it to Gmail just fine, though I think I remember reading recently that app associations were screwed up on sense 4+.You could always disable the stock email app in settings as well.

I use the stock email app for my work Exchange account and Gmail for my personal email. I often work from my phone so I would like to find a way to have my phone prompt me for which account I would like to send from everytime I click an email address or mailto link. I have been trying to look for an app that can do it but haven't had any luck. Maybe Tasker could do it?

I don't think tasker has that ability. Have you checked the viper ROM thread to see if anyone else had the same problem?

contact ringtones

Has anyone else had an issue with setting contact ringtones? I set them to a downloaded tone and I still get the default one. They quit working after I rooted but really dought it has to do with that. I have installed other apps that I did not have on pre root. Any ideas would be great.

Did you sync your contacts from Google contacts or outlook contacts?
Google, I just downloaded and app that manages ringtones and profiles. And now everything works as it should. Weird, will look onto it more when I re-flash a new Rom.

Great. Glad you got it to work.
The reason I asked if your contacts were from Google or Outlook was because Google contacts doesn't allow you to add ringtones through the "normal" route. You have to use a third party app. Just curious, which one did you download?
WhoIsIt, great app also allows for profiles based on time of day.

[Q] Facebook - Push notifications still not working?

Now that there are so much options for push messages in the new facebook app and the messenger was integrated, I thought that the push messages would finally work. But they don't. Is there something I have to set up for it to work?
I mean what the hell is so difficult to make that feature work? I don't get any notifications for new messages, not to mention about any friend requests, likes etc.
Do other apps' push notifications work well for you?

Yes, this problem only exists for the facebook app! The messenger app does work fine though.

Did you ever log into your fb account with a blackberry? Because that seems to activate push notifications somehow.
Check your phones settings. Settings > Accounts & Sync.
Check your push frequency within the Facebook Application. Unsure of where it is. I deleted the application all together. Too much of a battery drain. Good luck

If this does not work its better to try other Fb apps on the market.

What other apps can you suggest? The latest Facebook sucks, it shows that I have new messages but it doesn't show the message itself, only from browser.

[Q] Sync off but still receiving mail from Exchange

Hello,
I found something strange, with the sync disabled in System settings and in the application settings I still manage to receive mail from the corporate app (Exchange), however not from my Gmail account.
Thank you

Thank you, but this does not solve my problem.
As I use corporate mail application for my work, I don't want to freeze it, I just want to be able to stop synchronizing when I want it (e.g. week-end).
So I do not understand why I continue to receive corporate emails when accounts synchronization is shut off.

How to disable email sync

I don't want my email synced until I open the email app. This seems like it should be easy to do since there is an option to disable it under settings>email>accounts. The problem is that even though it is disabled, the emails are still syncing. When I open the email app and check the settings there sync is still checked and greyed so I can't uncheck it
So noboby else has this problem or a solution?
Try disabling it through settings. So go settings, accounts, your email account and uncheck sync email.

Okay, maybe you were talking about the same thing. It sounds like you meant the email app settings, I was talking about the main account settings. That's an odd one. I disable sync on my Gmail all the time, what app are we talking about

If you are rooted, try Greenify. If your email app is a system app, you must convert it to a user app in order for Greenify to work.

MailDroid allows this. I have it set to close the connection when I exit and then check email at least every three hours, or when I log in.

Pictures in hangouts not working

Hangouts always used to work flawlessy. In the past days I am not able to sent pictures. There's only a retry button but it never works. I would be thankful for solutions.
Many thanks

I'd double check the APN settings and if those are correct, then install another app that can send messages and test with that. If that doesn't work, then you might look in many of the texting apps as they will allow you to add your own APN as well to make sure it is Hangouts and not the settings giving you issues.

Thanks, other messenger work fine. And the apn is correct. I just added another Google account, and sending messages with pictures using this account in hangouts works. It seems to have something to do with my account.

Hmm, that's an odd one. Maybe try changing the password on the 1st account so it will force you to sign back in. Maybe that'll be enough to jump start the MMS for that account again.
That worked. Many thanks.

I have had the same problem with my LG G Flex. I had to browse to /etc/hosts file and it should contain some strings about "account.google" or something like that. Delete that line and it should work fine.
