[Q] HTC One/CM10.1/USB OTG - AT&T HTC One (M7)

Hi everyone,
I have an HTC one (ATT) that has CM10.1.3 installed with CWM Recover 6.0.3.1. The phone seems to work fine and I've been using it like this for a little over a week. Today my USB OTG cable came and I wanted to use it to transfer a few files off the phone to a USB stick and then on to another computer where I have not yet installed the HTC drivers. But the phone did not detect any drive. I looked at a few USB host helper apps and tried them out but they didn't help.
Searching through these forums for CM10.1 I saw 2 or 3 people say USB OTG doesn't work for that version, but is there a version of CM that does have USB OTG working for an HTC One?
I'm also not sure if perhaps my cable may be faulty. I rebooted into recovery with the cable and a USB stick installed and in recovery the USB stick's light did light up for a few seconds. But when attempting to mount as an external SD card it just gave an error. Funny enough when I tried to format the ext SD card, I was able to do so (I had put a GB of junk files on it before). After the drive was formatted I tried to mount it, but again I received an error. The drive is formatted as FAT32. So even if USB OTG doesn't work in CM10.1.3 shouldn't it have worked in recovery? I've googled some Youtube videos and saw a few people backing up their HTC Ones in recovery with a USB OTG cable and usb stick. Yet, I couldn't do that and of the 4 USB sticks I have handy (ranging from 256 MB to 32 GB) only the 4 GB Patriot XT stick lights up at all when connected in recovery. There is no blinking what so ever with the phone booted into CM.
If someone is using a HTC One and able to connect in recovery (or in CM), I would like to know. I'd be willing to buy a few other USB OTG cables in case mine (T&S Electronics version from Amazon) is faulty.
Thanks for any help.
TZL

10.2 just got USB OTG working. Has worked in TWRP for quite some time. Mine is a $2 cable from Amazon.

Thanks for the reply. I'll try 10.2 next week and see if it works. Do you recommend TWRP recovery over CWM?

It was the cable
Just an update: I tried a different Cyanogenmod version and even a stock ROM and still had trouble. It was the cable. I bought 3 more USB OTG cables and now attaching a USB stick works well with all my USB sticks in both recovery and with running the phone normally. Thanks for the help.

P.S. Though I know it was a random event, the first cable from Amazon that didn't work was T&S electronics. The 3 subsequent cables were QQ Tech, Jkase and Sanoxy. All 3 worked fine with a range of USB sticks from 256 MB to 32GB (USB 2 & USB 3 sticks). Thanks.

[USB-Problem] Can't recognize USB in any modes, even FASTBOOT.

My friend's got a Legend with a USB malfunction (which I'm supposed to repair ). I've gone through all the threads and posts, and I couldn't find anyone which had precisely my problem.
When the phone's switched on and connected to via a USB cable, it starts charging, and the pop-up to select Charging, Mount as disk drive, Sync etc comes up.
But on the computer, whether I try USB debugging, or Mount disk drive, or the others, it shows the error "USB Device not recognized". I've installed HTC Sync, and am able to connect other phones without any problem.
I tried connecting the USB in fastboot, but it doesn't detect it either (FASTBOOT doesn't change to FASTBOOT USB).
I just wanna confirm with experts if this' a problem with the hardware (Got a sample here :http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18420923&postcount=11) before I go to the service center.
Thanks
U might be using the wrong data cable. There are 2 different types, there is the old type that only has 4 connectors in the mini USB plug (phone end), the new ones have 5 connectors.
Another possibility is that the cable is simply just damaged.
I had the exact same issue with an external HDD that worked, then stopped then worked again then stopped, tried a new cable and worked without issue.

I'm leaning less to the hardware side.
I have had this problem before (not entirely identical) and after fruitless attempts in fixing I decided to reflash my rom and USB worked again.

Thanks for the reply guys Had to replace the USB port connector PCB.
Just for the info, I was not able to re-flash the ROM since the phone was S-ON and bootloader locked and couldn't get FASTBOOT USB to work.
USB Version...
Hey guys, long time reader thought I'd contribute my frustration to hopefully help someone in a similar situation.
I spent a few days wondering why I couldn't get any of this to work no matter what cable I tried. For some reason, my HTC One X didn't like dealing with fastboot through my computer's USB 3.0 slot. When I finally tried a 2.0 slot on the same machine, everything went through just fine...
Cheers!

This threat will indeed do the trick and your USB connection will be back

[Q] Updating - Out of Options

Hello forums,
I've done a lot of searching but can't seem to find someone with my combo of problems. Awesome.
So here's my set up.
Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1
CM9 2012 06 13 Nightly
Windows 7
I want to update to the stock ICS offered from Samsung. I originally had 3.2 HC and couldn't wait for the Canadian update to roll around so I went CM. But I've been stuck on CM9 Since. Now I have several problems that make it impossible for me to update. Any help would be much appreciated.
1. ODIN and PC will NOT detect the tablet when connected via USB. I get a USB not recognized. MTP is enabled. This means I cannot ODIN flash.
2. I can't find a Canadian ODIN Flashable-build. I'd have to use the US one. That has it's own slew of political problems.
3. CWM will not mount my SD card. I have a CWM Backup with ICS (Someone else uploaded it) saved in CWM's backup dir. but I cannot restore it since CWM 5.5.1.4 will not mount the SD.
I've literally been doing this on and off for about 2 months now and I could really use some help. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I could care less if the whole thing were wiped clean if it means I can start using the cameras again.
Thank you.

When you view the tablet in Device Manager, what does it say? What specific error do you get when you plug it in?
Some of the cheap cables are poorly constructed to the point where just normal flexing of the cable breaks the wires going to the connector. If you lose one of the USB transmit/receive wires, the cable will still allow you to charge, but the OS won't recognize the device.
If you know the cable's good, try reinstalling the drivers.

[Q] OTG strange problem

Hello all,
first of all, tried to use search of this problem, couldn't find anything.
So my problem is that when I connect to my GT-I9100 OTG cable with flash drive(8gb) it just dosen't detect it also tried using philz, apollo(dosen't remember corectly name) dosen't work either. Tried using OTG Troubleshooter it is question mark on "OTG Detected", with OTG cable everything is good because asked my friends to use it, they said that it worked for them. I thought it was my phone usb(where you put in) was damaged but no, phone is charging perfect also USB to PC works correctly. Also OTG cable holding very weak.
My rom:Neat rom(newest)
Kernel: Dorimanx(newest)
Thanks for help
Merry Christmas and happy new year

It supports OTG, I have tried connecting a mouse, keyboard, gamepad, usb sticks (fat32, you need an app to mount other filesystems) etc. and everything worked.

Great, do I need something to install? Or must the ROM be rooted? I just have the original rom installed no root.
thanks

If the usb stick is formatted as fat32, then you dont have to do anything. But if it is ntfs or other fs, you should install an app like stickmount, which requires root.
And for mice and keyboards, no other app is required, it works out of the box.
Hi,
do you have any custom rom running on it? I just have the stock rom which is even rooted, but no mice or stick is workin, but even no led appears, which acutally should blink once a usb pen is plugged, or not?
thanks

Q1:
Have you tried connecting your device to the computer via a USB cable? Can the computer recognize it?
If no, maybe there is problem with your USB port.
If yes, proceed to the next question.
Q2:
Have you tried changing the connectivity state for the USB port in Settings?
If not, try it out now.
If yes, report back and we'll discuss further more.
Use Es File Explorer... That's what I've been using
Sorry for late reply, I got it working, I replaced the usb cable, I think that the quality of the cable was too bad
