[Verizon] Switch to tab view instead of list view for settings - G2 General

I was somewhat disappointed to hear that Verizon made LG change the tab view for the settings to the more traditional list view. Well after some playing around I noticed that all you have to do is press menu and select "Switch to tab view" while on the settings page. That easy! So easy in fact that if you guys knew about this please lock down the thread.

Glad they didn't butcher it too badly. What about the volume controls? Heard they changed that...

That is good verizon did that to give u an option to view settings in traditonal and tab view

Yup, not in the notification tray unless you're playing something or on the phone.

I'm on Verizon. I swithched mine over to tab view. When I hit the settings app icon my menu is always back on list view. Only way it stays in tab view is if I hit the settings button on the pull down drawer.

[REF] -IN PROGRESS- Things the manual should have told you

Hey all!
The below information is for STOCK devices (or ROM's that are Stock and not using a custom launcher)
This is a Work In Progress, so if you have any tips that you found should have been in a manual, please feel free to post these and I will add them to the OP.
I just got my note yesterday and had to Google to find things that SHOULD have been covered in a manual or quick reference that wasn't.
Please keep in mind that this is my FIRST Samnsung phone (always been an HTC guy) so I am new to Samsung+Android+Touch Wiz and am guessing that I am not the only one.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Change Dock Icons:
1. From the home screen, open the App Drawer
2. Click Menu
3. Click View Type
4. Click Customizable Grid
5. Click Menu
6. Click Edit
Now you can drag and drop icons to the Dock Bar.
Follow steps 1-3 but in step 4 select Alphabetical Grid to return back to default.
Change Lock Screen Wallpaper:
1. Press the menu button then go to settings
2. Click Display
3. Click Screen Display
4. Under Lock Screen you will find an option for Wallpaper
Screen Capture Without the S Pen (Thanks kimtyson)
You can screen capture without the S Pen by placing your right hand perpendicular to the right side of the screen (in a karate chop position) and sweeping left. If you are left-handed, you can use your left hand in the same manner, sweeping left to right.
Change Brightness (Thanks Boris Sidis)
Long press the notification bar and drag left or right to change brightness.

One more for giggles.
Those are pretty standard among android phones...My addition for the note would be using your palm or side of hand to take a picture.

True to a point. Those that have had Samsung phones and know how to use and navigate Touch Wiz, probably. But I know several folks that jumped ship from HTC to Samsung and we're all new and learning.
Thanks for the input though!
Could you go into more detail as to what you mean by using my Palm or side of my hand to take a pic so I can add it?
Thanks!
I thought this was going to be like the tips and tricks from the International forum but oh man was I wrong...

I don't know if you realize he was just making a sincere suggestion. If you "karate chop" it you get a screen cap.

Long press the notification bar and drag left or right to change brightness.
Holding down on the notification bar and swiping for brightness will only work if you don't have auto brightness enabled. You can also take a screenshot by pressing Home and Power at the same time. I find that easier than karate chopping my phone.
This is normally presented to people when they set up their phones, but just in case someone skipped it, if you hold down the side button on the S-pen and double tap the screen, it opens up an s-memo over whatever app you're in so you can jot a quick note. There is also an option for this during phone calls.
EDIT: Here's a few other tricks that I haven't tested personally, but have heard from various sources:
1. If you are playing music and place your palm over the display, it quickly mutes the music.
2. While playing a video, tapping the power button will lock the display so it won't respond to touches. Pressing again will disable.
3. If you have motion activation enabled in your settings, when the phone rings you can flip it over to silence the ringtone.
4. Swiping a contact's name to the left in your contact list will quick-create a new message to them. Swiping to the right will call them.
Heres another, if you swype your fist accrpss the screen it takes a screenshot
Edit:nvm

Wish this worked without CheeseWhiz, odd it matters as the notification bar is framework, not launcher, but I couldn't make it work. Then again, I rarely managed to make the same function work in Cyanogen 7 either..
EDIT: Oops, yeah I'm an idiot, I had Automatic on, it works fine regardless of launcher.

[Q] ICS Quick Browser

Just installed this browser to get rid of the annoying "browser not responding" and thus far, having pretty good luck and really liking the browser, much more than the stock.
My only gripe is, why can I not see the address bar when scrolled down far on the screen? For example, while in any other browser, if I am far down the page, as long as I "pull down" the address bar appears, but while in ICS quick browser, I have to scroll all the way back up to the top.
Is this a setting I can fix, or is that just the way it is? I hope is can be changed because I am really liking this browser.
Thanks!
if you tap once on the visible tab title area the address bar appears.
hope the above makes sense.

I tried that, I figured that would do the trick, but no. I have to go all the way back up. I wonder why this is. For example, I tried it on facebook as well as google news...somewhere I was able to be far down.
No other ideas? tapping in the tab area does nothing.
I been telling people about this browser for awhile now. It's badass! To get to a tab without scrolling all the way back up just tap the 4th button from the left next to the recent tabs key. It's what I always did. Hope that helps you.:good:

LG G2 delightful discoveries

What are some of the delightful things you found about this phone but you might not have expected when you bought it?
I like having 5 rows and 5 columns on the home screen, plus up to another 7 icons in the app drawer.

The most delightful discovery that I didn't expect(i forgot about it) was the quite good imo remote control app. I can now control every setup in my house from my phone. A great feature!
I am one of the unlucky to have owned the P930, or ATT nitro HD as it was called. That phone was, frankly, terrible. I literally got only about 1.5 hours screen time until dead. Even with the bad taste in my mouth from that LG, I am glad I gave LG another chance. This phone is amazing...

You can turn it on with a toggle in the top row of the notification shade. If there's not a toggle there called "Wireless Storage", you can enable it with the edit button at the end of the top row. Once enabled, you can mount your phone as an SMB share by typing in '\\your.phones.ip.address" in windows explorer, or map it as a network drive, etc. It will have need a username and password, which you can find in the notification shade.

I've even programmed my electric fireplace remote. If you have a remote that's not on the list you can design you own remote with just the buttons you want. Pretty awesome! You can also have you remote appear in your pull down automatically when connected to home WiFi.

This is one I just stumbled upon. You can add/change widgets on the Lock Screen.
From the Lock Screen:
- Swipe the clock downwards to minimize the carrier and owner info.
- Press and hold the clock to remove, then add a different widget.
- From the Lock Screen, towards the upper half, swipe from left to right, you can add additional widgets on new screens.
- By default, swiping from right to left opens the camera.

A small thing, but I like that the notifications bar is transparent when on the home screen, allowing your image to show through.
I love the way new texts and phone calls pop up in a little window so you can act on them immediately without leaving the current application you are in.

Galaxy S4 Settings Menu Question

Hi,
On the Galaxy S4 you should be able to press the soft menu key on the left side of the home button in the settings menu to make the settings 1 long list like the Galaxy Note 3. Now I did this on a friends model which was unrooted, locked, and standard software and it worked fine. On mine which is rooted, unlocked, LOKI'd etc, running a custom rom I tried doing the same thing and it doesn't work. Is there a link to any mod I can use to enable that feature because I like the longer one menu instead of the 4 tab menu on the GS4?
Any response is greatly appreciated.
Thanks in Advance!

I just tried that on mine (ME7 stock rooted) and it didn't work so maybe if your friend has a different carrier version it has this feature? Well, since you're on a custom rom I guess that doesn't matter, I would suggest Paranoid Android because they have all sorts of options for tablet modes, etc so I'm sure that'll get you what you want.
That feature is still there as I use it as a long list instead of tabbed out. I'm completely stock and have always had that option available

But maybe thats why.. because your completely stock so maybe it is taken out on the roms but works on completely stock? Does anyone know of a mod to flash to enable this setting?

To go into settings, tap on the "menu" key to the left of the home button, then select "Settings".
Now tap the menu key again. It will pop up a "Switch to list view" message. Tap that to change to list view.
Tap on the menu again and "Switch to tab view" to flip back.
You don't hold the menu button down.

Yeah I tried that and still nothing. I hit the menu key in Settings and it doesn't do anything. Strange. Must have been one of my modifications that broke it somehow. Access "secret" menu with menu bar?

I really didn't know what the right terminology is but coming from a Note 2, I've really grown to appreciate being able to press the settings "button" to the left of the home button to access additional menu items that are hidden in a way. Now that I have the Ultra, that button no longer exists so I'm wondering how you would be able to access those features that a Note 2 owner would. One example is, in the dolphin browser, you could hit the menu on the note 2 to get access to the browser's settings and be able to go forward and back. How would one do that on the Ultra?
Also on a completely unrelated note, does the 6833 model work on ATT LTE? It seems to have almost all the right bands.

look up on Dolphin URL Bar on the top right. The Context Menu button is how Google wants it to be, which the Koreans doesn't like to make a move apparently (LG and Samsung). For legacy apps, there should be a Context Menu on the bottom navbar after recent app switcher. XDA app is one of the perfect example of that.
Ah so I suppose the 3 vertical dots are where the extra menu bar options are. With that said, is there any way of making the menu bar minimize when using certain apps (like emulators for example) since it's pretty intrusive overlapping part of the game. Heck even in asphalt 8 it's just there but in apps like mxplayer the menu bar is smart enough to hide itself.
