Hey Yep that worked as far as recovery goes. Thanks so much for that. I know you said you sd card was formated as extFAT. What should I try as far as trying to get that Rom on there? Flash like you said and wipe after and fix permissions? Never had a Rom fail to install sorry for all the questions just wanting to make sure I do this right. Thanks so much for all you help(need that apps to sd feature.) Can't download folder mount insufficient storage even when I delete apps. Thanks again Tried getting in contact with Andy as he put this rom together but no luck on that front yet I am sure he is super busy doing Roms. Also you said that TWRP version I had was probably the reason, it looks like the latest version? Sorry if this is a dumb question used to Clockwork Mod and 4EXT. (TWRPV2.6.0.0 what i have installed)

So do it the same way just with the other version of TWRP? Doing this do I just get that version and rewrite script? Will this keep my other back up as well? Thanks for your help.

Just flash any of the zipped recoveries except Twrp 2.6.0.0. You should be able to restore the nandroids you made if you choose to use twrp 2.5.0.2.
*First check the md5 of whatever rom your going to flash. Then follow these steps.*
1. Format system, data, cache and dalvik cache
2. Flash rom.
3. If rom contains firmware update (i.e. a new kernel, or modem etc. ) then fix permissions.
4. Reboot

had to change out my memory card and it did same method and it worked. My other memory card is format fat32 and the 64 is extFAT is there a way to get my phone to read that? when i insert it it says damaged or format. I have formatted it 3 times. Works in computer not in phone. I can mount it after and you can use it but I could not flash a rom from it.

Okay, let me rephrase that. Read the directions posted by the developer of whatever rom your to flash. If there aren't any instructions, you shoudl post asking the dev. But if you know what your doing you're going to be ok, in general only wipe the system parition if you know the rom that you're installing is already pre-rooted. You mentioned you wanted to install the stock root deodex VRUAME7 rom made by andybones. That rom is pre-rooted. Just don't install an OTA.

Got the rom installed had to change the card out to my old card which is fat32 not extFAT. As soon as I did that it flashed with no problems. Thanks for all your help. Question though I have a 64gb sdhc card that is formatted in extFAT but the phone picks it up as damaged but you can look under storage and mount it and it will show 64gb.... this was also the case last night when I was trying to install the rom. I have seen a lot of people saying the s4 is having problems reading extFAT so I was gonna format it to fat32 but when I do I lose half of the 64gb card. Do you know of any solutions for this? I would rather have extFAT for bigger file transfer but at this point I just want 64gb of storage lol. Thanks again for answering all my questions these last few days.

Rom install - No change?

Hi guys, tried searching the forum but no luck in these pages. I have a strange problem. I'm installing a custom ROM, it goes through everything fine, reboots, but it's just as before (i.e same wallpaper, apps, messages etc). This includes after doing a superwipe. So I have 2 questions;
When I superwipe, does it automatically choose the root on the phone?
Is it possible to have the phone's software on the SD card, and is booting from there?
Thanks in advance!
can u be a bit more clear?
which rom?
what steps did you follow?
what do you mean by superwipe?
some apps can be moved to sd card but some wont work on sd card. you cant boot from there either.
Hi
Thanks for the reply. The ROM I installed was this one - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1797334 - which included the "superwipe" script (I don't know what it does but I'm assuming it wipes everything completely from the stock phone)...
After doing that I installed from ZIP from sdcard, it went through the installation of the rom no problem, then when it reboots it just looks the same, with the old ROM on it
Sorry if i'm not explaining properly!
Thanks
try reading the op....it states that is an improved version of stock Rom with no visual changes! What are you doing flashing roms when you can't even be bothered to read the op?!

I read that - but it still has the bloatware. When I say "it looks the same" I mean literally - same apps in the same locations, same widjets, same wallpaper, messages still there, etc.

Yes but the speed, fluidity and batterylife of that rom is awesome, you can also theme the rom and delete or freeze applications/widgets you don`t need. This is not a restaurant you know where you can order whatever you expect , also do some effort yourself.
Look in settings > about phone and see if the rom name is in there. If it is then congratulations you have successfully flashed a rom.
Although reading about superwipe it seems to wipe everything including internal SD! Why the f*ck would anyone do that, don't use that, its not needed!
Just factory reset it in cwm and that should be enough.

very strange as the super wipe script wipes all data, cache and sd card, so if that isn't happening the flash is failing, and you should get error message...my only suggestion is to try 5.x.x.x recovery as I have seen several problems reported with touch recovery

This rom does not have version 6 recovery, it is 5 and non-touch . The superscript wipes the entire internal sd card and the caches. The external sd card is untouched. And i have done it myself, but after the superwipe it did matter in batterylife and rom speed compared to the standard full wipe.

That sounds like the problem then, flash the Rom from 5.x.x.x recovery and I'm guessing all will be good, so basically you need to flash a new recovery(remember kernel and recovery are separate on s3) and then try flashing the Rom, alternatively flash stock Rom, root with cf root(5.x.x.x) and then flash it

No because after the superwipe you flash the rom from the external sd card and you have the recovery that is included in the rom/kernel. There shouldn`t be a problem realy, it works well if people only read more than the first 2 lines of the OP.

So I went to settings > about and see that it says Android Revolution is installed - but there's something going wrong with the wipe still - considering everything is still the same? I'm not sure how to explain it properly. Kinda like I've reinstalled a browser but it's kept my tabs i guess

[Q] CWM Recovery on Galaxy Player 4.2 {Related to No WiFi}?

Hello there guys so I'm here because I did a very silly mistake related to the CWM for the Galaxy Player 4.2 (Or at least that's what I think I did ).
Related to this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=39344227
Anyway I'm not familiar with CWM since the Galaxy Player 4.2 is my first Android device ( And is not like the device has been easy on us right ), my device is rooted and the problem is that I already got the Kernel on my device and as expected I'm without WiFi. How can I configure the CWM Recovery without WiFi, if not, how can I get WiFi back?.
Sorry for bothering with dummy questions/mistakes and thanks in advance .

Can I flash the fix without CWM, for example with Odin?. I'm having a really hard time here, since I was dumb enough to install the Kernel without configuring the CWM before or at least making sure I could do it without the WiFi. Now the problem is when I want to flash with Rom Manager it says I need the recovery since I'm not a premium but again in order to get the recovery I need WiFi internet :/.

Wow it's the first time I see somebody having more problems with CWM than odin (no offense). Actually all you need to do is to put the patch into your device and then boot into CWM. Once into CWM, go into install zip from sdcard, then chose zip from sdcard and chose your patch zip. Once you choose it, you will see a bunch of no and one yes, check yes and it will patch it. Once it's done, reboot your device.
Hope it helps.
I'd like to know if flashing the kernel with CWM will make loose data, apps and preferences ? Thanks.

Backing up cache...

Any idea ?

Man, I feel so stupid right now . I managed to run the CWM boot now when I try to install the zip the update. Says:
"E: failed to verify whole-file signature
E: signature verification failed
Installation aborted"
Maybe I should tell you everything I did just in case.
I had the device already rooted.
Flashed the kernel
Installed the CWM v5.0.2.7
Transfered the Fix zip to sdcard
then I did everything you said and also tried to disable verification and still failed.
Sorry to be bothering U_U.

So I suppose that I've no such apps, as I don't have any .android_secure directory in /
Also, cwm backup seems to ignore backup of boot.image and recovery image. There is not even an error or warning message.

Upgrading straight from 4.1.2 to 4.2.2

You can flash a 4.2.2 ROM; however, be aware 4.2.2 uses a different format for SD than 4.1.2 does. The standard practice if coming from 4.1.2 is:
1.Move everything you want to keep, including Titanium backup folder, pics, music, everything...from your SD to a PC.
2. Copy ROM onto your SD storage from PC or download.
3. Boot into recovery and wipe data and cache ONLY.
4. Flash ROM.
5. Boot into new ROM for first time.
6. After it boots up, boot back into recovery.
7. Format SD card (main SD storage only).
8. Boot back into ROM, set it up, and transfer all your personal stuff into the 0 folder on your SD storage.
9. Enjoy!

Yes you will need to have a 3rd party bootloader. Theres a few guides here and on the Main One forums on how to.
Also, to address something you mentioned in your OP...no need to be s-off.
Would not formatting your 'SD Card' cause any issues? Whenever I try to flash an AOSP 4.2.2 ROM it crashes shortly after booting and the power button no longer wakes the phone, would this be the cause?

How would you do that from TWRP? I have format sd card, but that'll wipe all my backups etc.
EDIT: Also, when you flash a ROM, doesn't it automatically wipe all the partitions before it installs? Also, someone mentioned alternative bootloader? Is that necessary, what alternatives are there?

Flashing a ROM doesnt necessarily automatically wipe partitions, and the ones that do dont touch your personal data. An alternative to TWRP would be clockwork mod recovery.

Did you read the instructions? Step 1 says to back up ALL your data onto a PC because the file structure is different on 4.2.2 that 4.1.2.

Doesnt 3.6 come with 2800 MB system storage (mandatory) and 300 MB cache. also mandatory. and the choice of 1GB, 2GB or 3GB o data? thats where im getting confused. 1) have you done a full wipe of your partition? data, dalvik and cache. 2) are you rooted properly?? 3) try to download the zip again, sometimes you get bad downloads. all else fails, go into stock reovery and do a factory reset. then root properly and install safestrap. it sounds like you dont have proper permissions or there are some " lingering" apps conflicting with the new rom. let me know how your endeavor goes. good luck:good:
Oh and of course make sure you are on the jlftvzwME7 build otherwise safestrap may be fruitless..
Ok I will try to give the alloted space I didnt realize there was a specific amount it needed

No sorry i worded that strange... What i meant was that I was unaware you could make such partition changes. the only SS ive had the only option you have as far as the size of something goes, is the data. I have to leave sys at 2800 and cache at 300 MB so I found your problem very odd... And it is most certainly compatible but you're either not rooted properly ( maybe your SU binary needs to be updated?) or you need to perform FULL WIPES before the install. dont reboot in between flashing bonestock and the me7 modules either. And last but not least, Dont boot the new rom for atleast ten minutes after your done flashing it. if all else fails... just delete the slot and make a new one. and maybe try a new DL of the ROM

and fix your permissions if you can. its helped me with some funky ROMS
Ok lets start from the top
I know the SU is installed correctly because I'm using uninstall manager to remove apps like audible and viewdini that I dont use and it works perfectly
But just in case, how do I make sure my binaries are up to date?

if youre using SS, you need an external sd to keep the zips. and if you dl root browser and open it, it will prompt you to install "tools" one of which is winrar ( or something similar). although if you are going straight off the ext. sd, i dont think you need that. you should be able to create a custom rom slot in the # 1 spot, activate it and go to "Install" on the home page of the SS recovery. Pick bonestock.zip first, then add the me7 modules.zip, then flash. just dont boot the new rom for about 10 minutes
Was that any help to you?? I hope so. And if it was, shoot a thanks my way haha or just pm me and it will be much easier to communicate. good luck!

[Q] [MIUI] How to Upgrade MIUI without loosing data?

Hi everyone
I've downloaded and installed MIUI v5 4.1.3 and today it says I should upgrade to a new version. and I prefer to upgrade because of some bugs.
after I click the version in updater app, it says you should reboot your phone and continue it from CWM.
when I reboot and installing it from CWM suddenly it crashes, and the dead android image appear on the background. after rebooting the device it's still on the pre-version.
How I should upgrade this ROM without loosing any data and app?

Flash Philz recovery go to advanced backup data only, then full wipe, then flash new rom and finally restore data.

Not necessary but you may have problems! When I say full wipe use Philz install a new rom settings in Wipe/Data/Factory Reset menu the second option clean to install new rom. This will leave your internal and external SD cards alone.

another silly question, should I do all of these steps on my external SD or I can install new ROM from Internal SD?

You can install from internal because PhilZ recovery does not wipe internal card (unless you ask it to) but I would recommend installing all roms from external in-case for some inexplicable reason your internal gets wiped you would then have no rom to install
When ever you need to update or install new roms always keep on external sd card thats best practice.
If this is OTA Update you just need to go into recovery and try manual updation using install from a file. Goto internal sd card 》 miui 》 and select the file which just came during updation. You can recognize by version number.
If this is zip file dowloaded then it better to have backup first using the TWRM or philz recovery in external sd card. Then flash the zip.
The reason being the update script might have lines of code to format the data/cache/system/delvick. Which in turn you will loose your data after updation.
Note again backup using recovery on external card can help you recover you stuff any time
Cheers

From the screen shot it looks its trying to patch the old ROM with some exisitng library. It failing because may be the lib expecting does not exists or belongs to different version on ROM file.
It tough to to corelate the stuff which is mention in Updater script. You might need to take a look on this file and verify its action against the existing system. Take a look on zip file >> META-INF >> com >> google >> android >> updater-script.

Your using a older version of PhilZ recovery try this one >> http://goo.im/devs/philz_touch/CWM_Advanced_Edition/i9300 << if it still persists try downloading rom update again it may be a corrupt file.
