[Q] New LG Phablet..ZU beater ? - Sony Xperia Z Ultra

Hi Guys,
I was on the point of purchasing a SONY XPERIA Z ULTRA...then the news hit me today that LG are bringing out a identical size phablet..with KitKat (Android 4.4) and a higher ppi and who knows other features that may fix the shortcomings of the Z Ultra.
I don't know what to do ! wait or jump in and get the Z Ultra...I particularly like the stylus ability of the ZU and not sure if the LG will have that feature.
If I do go for the Z Ultra should I go for the 4G(LTE) or 3G version.....the 3G version seems to be cheaper....but this is a phablet I am going to purchase and get a SIM only deal and be free of any contract with a network provider, so am looking to make the right purchase (all my previous phones have been on contract).
Help guys...any advice/thoughts on my dilemma would be appreciated

Do you have a source regarding the LG phablet?

Think this just depends on how long your willing to wait but from what i read about the LG handset you wont see a thing about it till CES apart from rumored specs and again all just speculation. if you like the Z Ultra go for that. There will always be the current handset beater around the corner just go with what you like at the time. you never know the speed Sony are going you might just see a Z Ultra 2 at CES.
Same site giving us details to the Xperia Z2 already damn.

Ces 2014.. that's way too long to wait.. i'll go for the LTE ultra as soon as i complete my budget by end of sept
"Sent from my refrigerator"

Wut? Same screen size and fhd res with higher ppi? That can only happen if the resolution is cranked up right? And ces 2014? By the time lg launched it, the birth of nex-gen SoC is already near..
Anyway, good times of huge screen "phones" is definitely coming... Hurray for huge screens!

Yup Quad HD.
http://lgdnewsroom.com/press_releases/2734

Can somebody please explain to me what exactly is the point of increasing pixel density past ~350 ppi? Once you can't see pixels anymore, you're just wasting processor cycles and battery life. I can't even start to see pixels on my Z Ultra until I get closer than 6 inches away.

Nope, not for me. LG software sucks and the screen definitely won't be a beautiful triluminos and not shown until CES? Ridiculous comparison imho.

[Q] Is it worth to buy Sony Tablet S right now?

I have been meaning to wait for Xperia Tablet S 3G version to come out. But I'm tired of waiting, who knows when or even if it does come out at all in my country.
Not to mention the problem they're having right now. It can take ages to come out here.
Right now, there's only the Wifi version of Sony Tablet S that are available to buy. No 3G version. And the price for 16 GB one is about $480 if converted from my currency.
So I'm thinking of having Sony Tablet S 3G-16 GB version imported for about $570. What do you guys think?
I'd say no, the Sony Tablet S is totally different to the Xperia Tablet S - I felt that last years model was plasticy despite its good build quality and high price tag and the performance was poor.
Stick the wait out and you'll be sure to make the right choice.
absolutely not! other than the fact that tablet s (original one) hasn't that great build quality it has a lot of problem in term of modding.. i would go for a samsung tablet if you are interested in modding..
Id say yes! Is an excellent tablet.
The xperia tablet s production is stoped because a defect in the construction

Thanks for the feedbacks, I think I'll buy it anyway.
I wanted to buy a tablet for a really long time now, and I'm not really a patient person
And I prefer sony cause it's not common (maybe some of you find it strange, but I'm just quirky like that )
I'm also almost buy a Sony Tablet S... but I guess, the Xperia tablet is really better - in many ways... and probably worth waiting for...

Although I don't mind mine anymore, no way in hell would I recommend it to anyone for any reason and given the option, I'd swap it for another one without hesitation.

I agree that Xperia tablet is better than the original tablet S, but I really don't feel like waiting any longer.
From the looks of thing, it's most likely won't come out here until at least early 2013. Plus, there's no guarantee they will release the 3G version immediately. And having a wifi only tablet, here in my town, is just useless I think.
So, I'll just use STS now, and replace it with xperia tablet later when it comes out.
Remember the xts is being recalled

I got my girlfriend a Nexus 7, and although not quite as feature rich as the Tablet S, Root was so simple litterally a child could do it, it is soooooooooo much faster, and 16GB was plenty for her. 7 inch screen makes it sooooooooo much lighter/portable too. 32gb model will be out soon. Thinking of selling my Tablet S and get the 32GB Nexus 7 instead. I have litterally tried for weeks to get my Tablet S rooted and hate the propriotory connector, etc.
My 2 cents worth.

Looking to upgrade to a phone with a medium sized screen

Hey gents, I am looking to upgrade from my Xperia Ray some time in January or February and I am hoping that some of you guys can help me in narrowing down the search. So I compiled a small list of wanted features.
WANTED
Medium sized screen (4.3 inches or smaller)
Enough RAM to support android 4.2 and further upgrades (2gb or 1gb)
Dual or quad core for multitasking
Android system
Reasonable price (below 400 euro) - preferably less expensive
Do you have any suggestions? I am pretty open to any OEM.

I think you misread my post I am looking for a phone with a 4.3 inch screen or smaller. I dislike the huge phones and thought that it looked completely ridiculous when I saw a guy with a Galaxy Note 2 in the metro today.
But the Nexus 4 could be a phone that made me go for an exception. I have had a sweet eye on this phone since the start of November. I am just a bit thrown off by the size of it. A screen with 4.7 inches is not possible to be operated with one hand for a guy with medium-small sized hands.

You could go for the Xperia S or the HTC One S.
I would go for the Nexus 4
Another one is the Samsung Galaxy S3 mini
or the Motorola Razr i
Okay just an overview:

Performance: Razr i, One S, Nexus 4
Updates: Nexus 4
Design: personal :good:

And it is among the first batch of devices to get Android 4.2 via devs... ...

I appreciate all your suggestions and I will consider all of them before I make any descisions.
The Nexus 4 is tempting, but I dont see it becoming nearly as cheap in Denmark as on Play Store anytime soon
Xperia S seems to be a nice phone, but it seems to be slippery because of the back and the shape. Also it looks a bit wierd with the huge attachment to the bottom.
Xperia ion I will have to look in to, because it has not crossed my mind earlier.
With regards to the S2: Xperia Ray has had 4.2 for 2 days now, I consider that pretty fast
nexus 4?
1 issue that bothering me is easily break on glass-back body.
ive read many post by other ppls on this issue.
if u stick with Sony, go X-ion. that the best for me now.

Next Phone?

I just sold my S3, what phone do you suggest? I was thinking of the Xperia T, but the S4 chip doesn't seem too great and I don't like the design, they don't sell the Nexus 4 here, the Note 2 looks good but it's too similar to the S3, the OneX+ seems to have bad battery life.

Everyone will have their own opinions and reasons. Only you can decide, so do just that.
The post has no real relevance here either, just try the XDA generic Android forums for a broader view than S3 users.
The S4 chip is awesome and way better than crapsynos 4, plus you get the benefit of a fully or next to almost full working CM10.1 experience. So go with an Xperia T.
Seeing as you are so picky, I would suggest the Nokia 1100. Maintenance free, loooooooong battery life.
But seriously, I would wait till the Xperia Z is released. Or S4.
Good luck with choosing a phone.

I could get the Asus Padfone 2 for the same price as the Note 2, but without the tablet. It looks nice, but not many people have it!

I would pre-order Sony Xperia Z . It looks very good and premium, hardware is very good and Sony care about dev community.

Main reason why I will most probably get Xperia Z is that Sony cares about dev community and provides needed sources. Also hardware is top and design very nice and premium, without cheap materials.
For me it is time to try other brands.
Right now i would like Sony Xperia Z.
If you can afford it just wait a month or so and get it, i'am sure you won't regret that decision.

I've been loving my Mega for the last two weeks. Everybody gathers around to marvel at the sheer size of it.....and the phone lol. Anyway, I was at the barbershop yesterday showing it off and then this dude walks in minding his own business and pulls out I think he said a Sony something like Ultra? He said it wasn't available in the US but it had sim card slots etc. Can somebody pleeeeeeeease tell me what kind of phone it could've been. It was bigger than my Mega!

Check Mega vs Ultra photo quality on GSMarena and the Ultra's photo quality is bad.
There's another consideration to be made, battery life. I know the Z Ultra has better specs than the Mega, but 1080p screen, Snapdragon 800, Triluminous, etc, etc, don't make the Z Ultra last as much as the Mega, even with a 3,000 mAh battery, and make the phone hotter.
Just to share with you guys!

I really wanted a waterproof (resistant) phone, but the Mega was too good to miss, I will just take the old S2 in a ziplock bag when I need it.
The Xperia Z Ultra is ginormous!! I compared it to my Mega 6.3 and the bezel is just too much! Nice that it's waterproof though but I'll never have a Sony again as they always seem to develop faults. Actually, only yesterday my friend's Xperia S shut down and now won't switch on for neither love nor money.
Stick with Samsung.
Oh wow. Thanks for all the feedback yall. The sting has actually faded away already. Just hopefully he won't be in the barbershop the same time I am ever again lol.
Xperia Z ultra doesn't have a removable batt or expandable storage. FAIL...
Although both phones are huge, I believe the Mega feels better on the hand. The Sony has sharp edges which makes it feel like a brick. I also felt that way in a review in YouTube where they were explain the comparison of both phones, however Ill stick with Samsung. WE JUST NEED ROOT!!!!!

All I want out of the ZU2 would be better battery, LED Flash on the camera (For flashlight abilities) and an official case that doesn't have a loose stylus holder and make the almost double it's size.
They can keep it's appearance the same, they can leave the screen the same size (Though bigger would be nice, if only up to 6.5"), hell they could even keep the same processor since the difference between the 800 and the 801 they include isn't really big.

Won't happen. Again, why would they joke about a rumor about a niche product that 87 people cares about? Yes, there are 87 Ultra users in the world, so you better feel special. Google I/O is in June(?) so i guess we'll get to see Android 4.5/5.0, which the Ultra GPe will get pretty quickly, so.. not sure i'm going to upgrade this year, unless the ZU 2 is crazy gorgeous and has a teleporter of some kind.
The source is way too vague, anyone could have come up with a news like that.
I bet my 6 yo daughter could come up with something even better.
Come on, "allegedly", "this summer", "at some point in 2014", "led flash and 13mpx camera"... anyone could have guessed any of those, this is simply a bad article, that's it.
