I just got my G2 3 days ago and I do really like it but after looking at the specs of the Note 3, I'm having second thoughts. I'm a specs guy, that's really all I care about. The best of the best. In the end, should I stay or should I go?

I see far too many people comparing these phones and asking which to get, but in all honesty they are in two different categories.
Either you want a phone, or a phablet... You can't compare the two as they will be two different user experiences.

No one has the Note 3, so all you will be getting is opinions of people who haven't even touched the phone yet.
I don't get threads like this, and it's not even posted in the correct forum.
Actually, I think I just made my decision. As long as T-Mobile lets me keep this G2 until the Note 3 gets at my doorstep. I'll do it! I'll have to call them. You guys can still give me your opinions on this factor.

This.
The Note 3 isnt a phone as much as it is a tablet that can make phone calls. The G2 is a phone and no where near a tablet.
And 4.3 isnt a selling point, IMHO, because there are loopholes that were fixed that make third party dev even harder. Just look at the S4 with ME7 or higher.
So far loving the G2. I considered the Note 3 for about 10 minutes, but its just too big and too expensive for my needs (which are, a phone). I can go buy an N7 and have money left over.

i liked my note2 except it was a bit too big and i have gotten to the point i disliked amoled screens now. lol
but besides those two, i enjoyed it very much

In the end its your choice, I'm frankly tired and bored of samsungs design. And I despise that front home button lol. But this phone to me hits the sweet spot, the note 3 otoh, also I see the lg's cpu speed is clocked higher out the box I believe.

I think it all depends on what you use your phone for. I do lots of web browsing and watching tv shows. Bigger screen wins.

Even though Samsung burned me with the Galaxy S4, I'm willing to give them a second chance.
I'm a bit skeptical after having two lag fest S4's, I really hope they got the S-Lag ironed out with the N3.
The things that intrigued me with the N3 is the new faux leather plastic back cover, 5.7" screen while being roughly the size of the 5.5" Note 2. It's also rumored to use the AB S800 binned SOC. Higher CPU(2.3GHz) and GPU frequency(550MHz). 4.3 out of the box, most likely better sounding speaker, S-Pen (which I used a lot on my Note 2). Expandable memory and removable battery is also a plus.
The things that I am not too thrilled about is the new pentile matrix display, I guess it wouldn't be so bad at such high pixel density, it didn't bother me too much on my S4 but would prefer a good traditional IPS LCD over any AMOLED. I'm also disappointed it lacks hardware optical image stabilization, I always thought my S4's camera would be amazing if it had included OIS. I also wished Samsung would tone down their gimmicky air gesture ect. bloat crap or better yet not include it at all on their more premium Note line.
I always thought my Note 2 was almost the perfect phone (probably the phone I held onto the longest), just wished it had a higher resolution screen, more ram, capacitive touch buttons that work with the s-pen and a higher resolution camera with OIS. Looked like the N3 addressed *most* of my wishlist, but then again a lot of baggage came along for the ride. I just have my fingers crossed that it doesn't lag down, but then again I don't have high hopes much after using the S4. I swear if it lags I'm going to use an iPhone 5S as my daily.

I'm bad like that too, def agree that Note 2 was the best phone I've had.. if it had 1080p and IR blaster then i would have never got rid of probably

I can imagine that the screen on that thing will be beautiful. Though the small battery concerns me. I have never had good luck with HTC's customization and battery life. How important is the S Pen to you?
I'd have to mess with it but I've had smart phones for years with out a problem but the s pen would probably come in handy

For me, the S Pen and the multi-window feature is the entire reason I am purchasing the phone (It isn't time for my "upgrade" yet). Spec wise it is really kind of a wait and see. I personally like the black and red, but I am not a fan of the glossy black. I prefer the look of the brushed "metal" of the galaxy series.
Has HTC cooked up any compelling software features?
I'm almost positive I'm getting the Note 2, but the HTC DNA is definitely intriguing. I sorta made this pros and cons for myself, it may be helpful to you or others though.

Oh well I had thought of the locked bootloader, but then thought the HTC DNA's would be locked as well so they sorta cancelled each other out. The home button is a good point since those who don't like would need to get those cover up stickers.

While the bootloader may be shipped locked on the DNA, at least you could "unlock" it via HTC Dev. I for one am going to try the sugar water method to get rid of the logo.

Both seem like great devices. I personally don't really care about the s pen, I probably won't use it much. But I do like the multi-window and large battery of the Note 2.
It's the battery that did it for me. I was really excited when I heard rumors that HTC was going to make a note competitor but then when I saw that the battery was only around 2000mah and non-removable that ruined it for me. Plus I kind of see the lower resolution as a plus, I've always gone with the highest resolution I could for computers but when the pixels are as small as they are on this I don't know how much better 1080p can really be but I do know it will be a lot more taxing on the GPU so the note 2 should have better graphics performance.

I had the t mobile note 2 for a couple days and the only con I have is the physical home button. I really wish it was capacitive. It's kind of a pain to actually click the button when you're holding the phone with one hand because it messes up the balance of the phone in your hand making it feel like it's about to fall.

I love the phones HTC makes. However reading the 12 page review of the N2 on GSMArena the other really dived into all the extra bits samsung and put into the Galaxy phones and then the note widgets as well. I can see them being very useful.
I like using Google Voice actions in the car, but never in a crowded area, with the S Pen a few swipes and boom a text is sent.

And chances are that someone may stumble upon an unlocked bootloader for the Note 2, so how is it any different? There is also no confirmation that it can be unlocked via HTC Dev.
The lack of SD card and too small nonremovable battery leaves out the DNA.
Oh I just thought of probably the biggest reason I'm going for the Note 2 now, and I'll wait for another 1080p device later, nothing will really take advantage of all those pixels, everything is just now starting to work well a 720p. Hopefully more 1080p phones come out over the next year, and then the Note 3 comes with a 1080p screen, so by then more apps will be taking advantage of all those pixels.
If it is true that the DNA/DLX only has a 2000mAh battery (or thereabouts) then that would be a huge con IMO. People complain about battery life all the time, even when they're getting better than average battery life. You're taking a device with a larger screen than a SGS3, plus has twice the CPU cores, and putting the same sized battery in it. For battery life comparisons, I would guess that the DNA will have worse battery life than the SGS3.
While the Note 2 has a HUGE screen and quad core, it also has a huge battery to go with it, and from what I've read, it gets battery life comparable to the SGS3, maybe slightly better, depending on usage. Add in the S-Pen, and you have two major selling points IMO. But, there are always going to be fans of HTC, and Samsung haters. One thing to note is that if both are unlocked, the DNA/DLX is more likely to get AOSP going due to the Snapdragon processor, at least at this point. If Samsung lives up to their word and releases the Exynos sources as requested, that could change.
Nobody's really posted a real-life usage of Note2 vs S4 so here's my observations for those wondering.
I still have both the Note2 and S4.. and before that I had the S3.
I also currently have the Razr M as my "Spare" phone for when I feel like popping my sim into it on nights or events when I don't want to chance the loss or damage to my nicer more expensive phones. So I can throw out some comparisons against the RazrM since it's still my favorite "small yet powerful" Android phone.
1) Wow factor: Whether it be a ridiculous wow or a wow that's cool goes to the Note2.. The sheer screen size is still noticeable when using smaller phones and then using the Note2.. It's just big and watching videos/gaming is a real treat and joy. Despite having 720p on a larger 5.5, its still crisp and clear and nobody's streaming 1080p (Netflix/Hulu) to phones yet so the Note2 is still viable and current. I know that there's a Youtube apk hack that allows for 1080p but aside from that I haven't seen any apps using 1080p artwork yet.
2) Size: S4 obviously.. Light light light, deceptively light body. Thin thin thin.. Not a whole lot thinner than the Note2 but thinner. And a lot lighter. Since i have the RazrM, the S4 feels about the same in pocket and in hand as far as weight goes. And even if the RazrM is shorter and has a smaller width, the two feel the same in my pocket which is important to guys who like to pocket their phones. The Note2 in pocket has a horrible feel (for me) and just makes everything awkward for me.. Sitting down, driving the car, etc.. the Note2 is just clearly uncomfortable in my pocket and feels out of place. Like cramming something in your pocket that shouldn't go in there in the first place is the feeling I always get.. This is WITHOUT a case even on the Note2.. Cased up my pockets are even more ridiculous. This is why I feel the S4 is probably the biggest screensize/chassis phone I could ever deal with as a daily driver. it's a breeze to pull out of your pocket even while sitting. On the topic of size, it's trickier taking phone calls on the Note2 as you have to use precision to make sure the earpiece is aiming into your ear.. sometimes you end up missing where the earpiece is and not hearing people briefly until you correct it.

3) Battery life: Editing this in later, too early to tell, but I can tell you right now charging from 0% to 100% is night and day from the Note2 to S4.
4) Reception/Signal/Data speed: future edit..

I got like a hundred pictures in my galaxy on my s4 if that's what you're asking and have no lag. However I do notice the camera feels more zoomed in on the s4 even when zoomed all the way out? Anyone?

my thoughts exactly, but i have smallish hands. i liked the note 2 a lot but it was ultimately just too big for me. Love the S4, but would be fine with a 4.3 or 4.7 Moto X phone with top specs i think my perfect size is somewhere between, maybe 4.5 and 4.7. But 5.0 and 1080p is SHAWEEET

This, and when I need to use my phone one handed the Note 2 was far too difficult to manage.. For me I feel that 5" is the very max I can deal with.. It's too early to tell though and 5" might be even too big for me and I have big hands (i'm a dude).
I keep flipping back and forth between my Note 2 and the S4. I use the Note 2 for work and school (Snotes and the S-Pen). I have large hands and can operate it just fine one handed. I love the battery life, I can go all dat with heavy use and still have 30% when I get home at night.
That being said, I also love the S4 even with it's size difference. The main improvements for me are the screen, IR blaster (yes I am using it a remote) and the OS. I will look at an extended battery when they come out, but I am never far from a charger....and if I know that I will be, I take the Note 2.
Note 2 gallery is waaaaYyyy better than the S4

I just switched over to a S4 from the Note 2. Biggest difference that I keep noticing is screen size. The larger screen on the Note 2 is awesome but as a lot of people have mentioned it's near to impossible to use one handed and for me one handed use is important. If you're on the fence just because of screen size I'd say go with the S4 cause that little difference in screen size won't really be worth it for the loss of ergonomics.

Well I sold off my N2 so i'm sticking to the S4.. I am sure the N3 will have me wanting it when that time comes in 6~ months I'm just not sure I will want to deal with a phablet again, the size was just a bit annoying but it was a joy and pleasure to use the N2, I will miss the easy to read, large screen

I don't know if you guys have heard about the upcoming 6-inch HTC phablet, HTC One Max. Well, i was reading this article and it says that HTC One Max may launch this September and it might go face to face with the upcoming Samsung Note III. What do you guys think about this? Would you go for a smaller HTC One mini or would you prefer a larger HTC One max? This is just so interesting. I would love to know what are your views about this. :laugh:
For me the HTC Max is just too big. And the HTC Mini is not really mini is it? It's 4,3 inch screen is actually not thát small compared with the One's current screen. To me it's just a cheaper version of the current One, a midrange model to bring the HTC One experience to people with a smaller budget. The current One is still the best for me

The 4.7" of the HTC One is a bit small for me (currently using original note) and 6 inches would be far too big for one handed use. For me the note is the perfect size at 5.2", I hope HTC go for 5.5 or 5.7 at the most with a slim bezel to reduce the footprint.
I have big hands and 6" would be ridiculous, there is a limit...

Fully agreed. 5.5" would be perfect IMO. Coupled with a beautiful design, they could probably pull a lot of users away from the Note. This would be a MUCH better route to go over releasing a revised One in 6 months. Putting the One and a larger option on the books for yearly refreshes would be a solid move to make.
Also agreed that 6" is simply too large for daily use. The Note just about pushes the limit.

The Note itself doesn't sell "a lot." It sells at 15% of the SGS3/SGS4. The masses don't see the need for a giant phone; especially those that already own tablets which is 35% and growing. If it weren't for S Pen/S Note and multiview which need a larger display to work well I wouldn't own a Note either. The OG Pro hasn't been selling very well on AT&T. Giant phones are great for gaming, media, browsing, and reading but not being able to use them one-handed makes them a PIA for typing and calls. And they are still too small to be a true tablet replacement. The Note has an inductive display which supports true inking, the XZ Ultra doesn't and if the One Max doesn't people that buy the Note for S Pen won't be interested. And the Mega which has a bigger screen than the Note and One Max costs less because it has slightly lower specs. Giant phones will always be a niche and the iP5 with its 4" display is still a best seller which is why there's a SGS4 and One "mini."
The difference between the One Mini and Max vs. the IP5 (and new iP5s) will be similar to this.

If the One's not taking business away from the SGS4, what makes you think the Max will take business away from the Note? Not being snarky but if HTC's bread-and-butter phone is struggling what's going to be different in the phablet segment?
Personally I find the One to be about the perfect size. Anything biggger becomes a problem and the aesthetics suffer. My son has a Note and nothing says 't%#t' quite as well as watching someone holding a tablet to their ear to take a phonecall.

I had a GN2 and the size did not bother me at all, one handed use for dialing in the car is another issue, but I rarely do that. I am just hooked on the BOOM SOUND Speakers on the HTC One and will be looking seriously at the HTC One Max. I have a DE 64GB now and will only get a Max 64GB if they don't offer it I won't get it.

I would suspect it will look like the current HTC One but BIGGER, like the HTC One Mini is a bit smaller. I care about processor, battery, screen size, a stylus is not a requirement since I can carry a small stylus and not worry about crap-ware that I don't use.
Can't imagine how heavy it's going to be..

I had the GN2 and it wasn't too heavy, and I can handle the HTC One Max's weight as well. After all a little weight isn't a bad thing to remind you of the real power you have in the palm of your hand.
I'm really looking forward to the HTC One Max. I always liked the idea of a phablet, but hated the poor build quality of other manufacturers like Samsung and Sony, so I never bothered with anything other than HTC (being a graduate from my Desire Z > One XL > One), as the overall user exrience and build quality is, imo, the cleanest and most solid amongst the top manufacturers...
All I ask is that the One Max have expandible micro-sd and a stylus... As an artist, that would be the icing on the cake, and since I'm never home and my phone is my personal computer... Expandible storage and a good battery is important for me for such a large device (whereas I don't mind it as much on my One)

Actually the battery life has been proven to be better and the Screen is also the best screen out on the market right now accuracy wise, yes the screen is almost perfectly calibrated and the colors are very good. The GPU is also more potent (578mhz over 450mhz). BUT its made by Samsung so it still a piece of s***

I for one am sticking to g2 for a time being and cost versus benefits ratio is definitely in g2 favor.
On grey market in Canada for brand new in the box, it is $400 cash for g2 vs $800 with taxes from provider for sgs5.

the camera on the g2 is a hit and miss piece of dung. It is by far the most inconsistent camera ive ever used on a smart phone. In a low light shoot out my lumia 920/iphone5s/then g2. and in decent light it is still a fuzzy grainy noisy phone but when the light is optimal its wonderful. the gs5 is similar in terms of camera performence except the shutter is almost instant like on the iphone 5s. the g2 takes way too long to focus and shoot.plus the s5 is water resistant . personally id wait another month and see what the G3 is all about. thats what im doing.
Wait and see. I'd call the S5 and the G2 too close to call, as they each have their own strengths.
The G3 sounds like it'll be better than the S5, thus the wait and see approach...

Really? So I'm imagining my friends' (often repeatedly) bricked S3s and Note 2s? I'm imagining that all the comparison shots I've seen (especially low light) make the G2 camera with its OIS look better than the S5? I'm imagining that even though Samsung released kernel patches for the broken ERASE/DISCARD on S2/S3/Note/Note2 eMMC (not to mention other manufacturer's devices that also used f**ed Sammy eMMC), the performance of those devices now sucks in comparison to other Android hardware running TRIM enabled Android? I'm imagining that the S5 has a smaller capacity battery and I get 7-8 hours SOT out of the G2 running PA4 beta4? Oh, and AMOLEDs - even if you can't see the subpixels, they've finally decided to stop calibrating them to a cartoon colour space, and you can read them outdoors: I've seen myself that even the panel on the S5 suffers from wild differences in colour temperature at different brightness levels and I see no evidence that it won't be subject to the rapid decay that is AFAIK inherent to their manufacture at the moment, the display on my S2 looks crap now. Its gone purple. And the device has hardly been used.
And finally, I'm imagining the fact that my girlfriends old S2, which we replaced with a Nexus 4 after 6 months because it was so crap is the most unstable POS with the worst battery life of any Android device I've ever had the misfortune to own, regardless of what it was running?
GPL compliance? Bootloader security? Any other reasons to hate Samsung required? They're a blight on the face of the Android ecosystem.

changing from G2 to galaxy s5 is not an upgrade. some things like battery and screen are outright downgrade. some other things like fingerprint scanner/heartrate monitor are an upgrade.
The key thing is: you have to decide what factors you personally prioritise. If fingerprint scanner is more important for you than good battery life, go for the S5. Otherwise dont "upgrade".

I do not own the S5, but tinkered with one a bit on the day of release. I am sure in some respects the S5 is an upgrade to the G2. I hear the camera is better than the stock G2 camera. Battery life is also improved. The thing is, the battery life on my G2 is soo good ( and so much better than the S4 that I had previously) that I cannot imagine the S5 offering me a noticeable improvement. As for the camera, since I started using modded cameras (Jinsu or Xdabbeb) I have not had any issues. The stock camera had some issues (like the long delay before shooting and i think low-light performance). I think the two phones are so close, that you may be better off waiting a few weeks to see what the G3 has to offer.
I returned my s5 after 7 hours. the camera is garbage. the phone got as hot as the s4 did. the screen while nice, did not match the accuracy and whites of the g2. it had crappy build quality bc it has the body shifting issue my s3 had, where the battery didn't fit right in the cavity and would move inside that cavity and made the phone twist and crack everytime you picked it up.
I stuck to my g2 and I'll wait for the g3.

I tried an s5 at an att store yesterday and I like the feel of the device better than the g2 and the camera was great. It was super fast and took insanely sharp images. Low light wasn't good. The screen is gorgeous the weight is good. Its not a great leap over the g2 but it is a nice device. The g3 is rumored to have a very high resolution screen which is useless . hopefully they fix the bad camera. All LG has to do is water proof , fix the camera low light and noise issues and possible up the battery to 3400. That would be golden

Not sure why people are complaining about the back, it's fully replaceable.
As of the front, the fingerprint scanner had to go somewhere, but they kept the screen at 5.5 and side bazels are ultra thin.. The whole phone is much smaller than the oneplus one...

It's a real shame, I was hoping the OP2 would be my next phone. There's also some reports that the screen panel and camera aren't very good from leaked camera test shots.
Of course, people are also freaking out about the low Antutu benchmarks and are faulting the underclocked SD 810. At this point, I wouldn't touch any SD 810-based hardware.
No word on whether Oxygen is improved at all.

Lol even my lg gflex 2 gets 58000 even with throttling... I think maybe it is another cheaper version not the "normal"one of op2. Some previous leaked geekbench scores and antutu showed far better results.
