Hey, here is my problem:
Facebook and Messenger are always turned on in the background and whenever I connect to the internet I appear online on FB.
Sometimes I want to use the internet without appearing on facebook and receiving messages. I know that I can use the log out option in both FB and Messenger but than I need to re-enter password and re-login with all those questions about syncing my device with FB. I am looking for a solution. Something like 1 button widget that disables/enables facebook in no time. I tried using some firewalls but they took long to work and when I wanted to turn back FB on I had to restart my device.
Any ideas?

facebook> menu> settings> chat availability off and uncheck the notifications

Thanks, but will it apply both to FB and Messenger at once?

do not know about the messenger coz i don't install it as it sucks the battery. thumbs up for facebook app only.

But I will be able to chat on facebook without messenger? Do you know if the chat head bubbles will be available if Ill uninstall messenger?

yes of course you can chat even without messenger. chat heads wont pop up but once you open the facebook app, you will be receiving notifications in the notification bar.

I want to disable the sync with Facebook and Gmail.. I hate it!
I dont see the people from my Facebook and Gmail in my contacts list but when I want to send a new message it shows me hundreds of people that I dont want to see! I want to see only the contacs from my Phone/SIM Card..
And I just notice a new problem right now.. When someone calls me and I answer the phone it automatic turns speaker on.. Why?

I cant disable them.. I cant disable the Gmail sync because other apps are using this account ()
And I cant disable the Facebook sync because the only way to do it is to log out of the Facebook..

Go to Gmail and turn off the new mail notification, then go to Facebook and do the same

I already did it before.. This is not the problem..
I ve got it via "Titantium Backup Pro" ... there is a point of google syncs ... freezed it ^^
(only for rooted)

Just bought the SG3, i get facebook notifications from groups and such, but when someone is chatting or sending me a message on facebook i dont get any notifications at all
Any idea? Tried uninstalling/installing , and rebooting phone
Did you install both Facebook app and Messenger app ? Notifications for direct messages work best if you install BOTH apps and only use Messenger for direct messaging. Hope this helps.
Thanks. Yes i installed both first. But i was told by another user with GS3 that he didnt have the messenger app installed and still got notifications about messages.
Installed messenger again and got my notifications.
Asked him later, looks like he had the messenger installed aswell
Did you check your Facebook settings inside of the FB app itself?? There is a whole section for Notifications and also a section for Chat.
I installed the Facebook Messenger app, and immediately started getting message notifications.

me too and i didnt set anything in the fb settings
seems like both go sms and handcent are unable to pull up access to facebook contacts, stock messaging will, but no go on searching in other apps.
anyone know of a workaround?

Strange GO SMS Pro for me is working fine. Its not allowing facebook photos to show up otherwise its fine for me.
I'm guessing so app's are crossing over and garbling crap up
anyone have any idea what the samsung app "facebook for syncing" is in the accounts manager vs facebook/friendcaster.
I've found that friendcaster will sync my facebook friends..but not my numbers...
and facebook app will do both..but other app's arent registering them
and as far as I can tell the samsung facebook app for syncing is just for gallery/calender...but yet I can't get calender to work, just error's out.

It says to my friends that im active still when ive done that. The only facebook app im using is facebook messenger, turn of the active button but still tells them im online. but thanks for the response.

Heres a picture of the settings.
after months of annoying targeted ads I finally got tired of facebook and uninstalled it from my phone
installed separate browser specific for facebook on every PC so it cant share date with anything
I also installed firefox on my phone to use for facebook alone. it worked great until I uninstalled messenger
that's when I really saw how desperate facebook wants my info. im assuming all the goodies were loaded into messenger since it needed pretty much every permission available
and facebook is now like a tweaker trying to get access back to my phone by forcing me to use messenger.
it blocked access to my messages from mobile page and from desktop page as well
always redirecting me to app store
even when I disable app store it simply left blank screen when I click on messages.
this is really disturbing to me how much it wants to spy on me.
so now im trying to figure out if theres a way to access my messages without having facebook app and messenger app

This isn't Facebook spying on you or targeting you specifically. It's been the case for a while now that you can't access your messages from the mobile Facebook website without having Messenger.
It does the exact same thing to me if I try, it opens Messenger. It's for everyone. The change was made some time ago now.
Put Facebook/Messenger Lite on your phone and use that. Or any of the Facebook website wrapper apps like Swipe for Facebook or Metal.
