Blocking mode on Verizon s4 - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

So i was messing around with an NFC tag and I programmed it to active the blocking mode, pretty much just to see what would happen. And to my surprise, it did indeed activate. Perhaps Verizon didn't delete it and maybe just made it inaccessible?

well, i programmed an NFC tag to activate it. The app is called "NFC Tag Launcher" (Link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jwsoft.nfcactionlauncher&hl=en) and in there i created a task that would activate it. It was surprising that it worked, and kind of exciting.
EDIT: Would you like to see some screen shots? .. i think im being pretty vague with this exciting discovery

Is that the blocking mode for when you want to sleep and stuff so that the notifications dont go off?

Nice find, I need to test this when I get home. I would like some screenshots or at least how you set the profile up if its not too much trouble.

Several of the custom ROMs already have this built in, plus a whole lot more

From what I've heard you can now use safestrap to install custom ROMs if you're on ME7. There are a lot of people using Hyperdrive that have taken the update. But it's cool that NFC will bring up blocking mode, if you don't want to go that route :good:

If I wish to access my company's assets from my personal phone, I must abide by my employers rules about that access. That includes not having root or using custom ROM's on Android devices.
This is enforced both by employment policy and systemic policy. This is very common with fortune 100 companies and government work.

Oh cool. I'll have to look at that.
Not everyone wants to install custom roms. Its nice to have a way to use something that should be easy access on the phone the qay samsung intended but for some reason verizon thinks we shouldn't. If it werent for the great service . . . .

Great info! Good job man, I can't wait to try it!

What setting in the app did you use to launch the program, I can't find blocking mode.

Voice over from incoming calls and emails

So my note recently has started to announce the names of incoming calls. I hear my ringtone as I normally would, and about 3 seconds into the ringtone, the android "gps voice" speaks the name aloud. At first it startled me, but then I actually liked the feature because I do screen my calls at times and it is helpful when my phone is out of reach. Now however, it has been doing the same thing with my emails. The bad thing is that it decides to do it randomly while I'm at work when my phone is on silent. While on silent, my phone will just "speak" and say "you have 2 new emails" while i'm at work. The email voice has only happened twice so far, but I do not want it to happen again. I did notice that it occurred when my media volume was on...not sure if it is linked to this or if it was just coincidence. Anyone else have this issue or know how to stop it? I figured this was not normal since it did not occur when I first got the phone, and it just activated randomly...

Thanks for the quick response! I didn't even know this was a feature. I don't even know how I activated it though...Is there anyway to keep the voice only for incoming calls??
I actually like this feature for the incoming text but I assume it drains battery...

I have used eCID for a couple years. Works for calls, sms, mms, email, calendar, and google talk. It will even read your messages if you so want it to. I used it with loquendo TTS which has been by far the best TTS. But I have to give Samsung credit as Samsung TTS does very well too. But loquendo is still a touch above.

Screen recording?

So apparently we got screwed out of the Screen Recording feature ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0j-oTLGPUEY ), there's an app on the market called "ScreenRecorder", I keep getting "Fatal Error!" has anyone been able to get it to work?
What is up with Verizon taking so many useful applications that came with the phone off it? Bet there was a problem with their bloatware and the apps. Even then keep the apps and fictions and lose the bloat!

[ROOT/SOFF] Rootalot One Click S-OFF + ROOT

To further avoid myself, being accused of doing wrong in the essence of good, please SCAN THIS FILE. 2/34 Virus scanners on my end show what I THINK are false positives, personally I RAN THIS and see no ill side effects and monitor my network well. If you feel the least bit threatened or weary about using or downloading this, then please don't. The results don't look like it has been working anyway, I left it here for people to test/play with. Keep that in mind.
This has NOT been tested with the DNA yet, but it is supported, please read the documentation before use.
EDIT: Results don't seem to look good, for this app at all actually. I will leave it if anyone wants to try, but this is the second of a few warnings throughout this post. Don't test it on a phone you want. Although no damages have been reported.
I am not the creator of this one click, but I was told it could be shared freely, as it also describes in the .ZIP contents.
I did not personally try this out myself (My One X is already rooted + S-OFF) so be sure to check it out and read all the documents before trying out this new root exploit.

It did finally pick up my One X after about 10 mins (more like 2), but like I said I'm already rooted. It looks like it supplies a good amount of phones, and with the 3 different methods for rooting, especially the third, hopefully we will see some good results!
I'm not responsible for harm that comes from this file, I have ran and tested it out to SOME EXTENT. Please be aware of this, and like I said, READ THE DOCUMENTATION.
It states it can:
Root Android 2.x
Root Android 3.x
Root Android 4.x
Rooting Phones and Tablets
Supplies S-OFF as well (80% Chance)
So, like I said, try it out and let me know if it works!

I love my new VZW GS4, but the biggest thing I miss is Halo as found on some other ROMs that were available for my Galaxy Nexus.
It is way over my head to get it ported, but I know someone out there can do it. In an effort to entice them, I am starting a bounty thread for us to offer up donations to whomever can get it done!
I'll kick it off by offering $50USD for the first person that can provide a TouchWiz Halo-enabled ROM.

I do not think you have any clue how large the source code is for halo.

There are some smart people out there, let's put some money down and make it happen. And yes, I'm familiar with smali.
Halo is big, but u know someone here can do it, especially if we have a good bounty.
I would like to use this picture with the words "stop trying to make halo on tw happen. It's not going to happen." I couldn't resist since I saw the opportunity to use this picture haha, not trying to be rude

I, for one, won't give up on how great this community is. If people think it's not possible, then there's nothing to lose by putting some money up to encourage devs. Smali is rough, but in code, nothing is impossible. Who will match my $50?
The world was once flat, man could not fly, and Earth was also at the center of the universe. Many things seem impossible until they are done.
Has everyone here truly given up on the idea?
Why not add to the bounty if it's not possible then? No risk right?
Count me in for $20.

That's the right attitude! Can we get over $100? Let's keep this dream alive, and nothing to lose if it is indeed impossible.
