Guys...
I've had my C6802 for a week now. I've been loving it, and I didn't understand why people are dissing it about pocket ability. It fits in my pants pocket just fine. I just make sure that the left front pocket is reserved for the phone alone, no keys, change, or any other scratcher. Breast pocket is just disaster waiting to happen - button down flap can't even come over the phone. So that's out.
Today I sat down at the restaurant to use the Wi-Fi on my laptop, and I hooked up the XZU to download a movie through Media Go. I noticed the phone rocking back and forth diagonally, not laying flat on the table top. I thought maybe the table is sloping on that side. So, I moved the phone to another spot; same thing. I picked up the phone and eyeballed it along its profile! Alas! It was bent!
I remembered...... Aluminum frame..... so I flexed it diagonally to fix it, and it straightened out!
So be warned folks! Even if it fits in your pocket, sitting down with the phone in the pocket will definitely bend it! This might even lead to the glass corners popping out!
Oh, that's.. bad I usually put my phone on the table no matter what, but i'll keep this in the back of my head. Thanks for sharing.

I do set the phone on the table too. I believe I twisted it sitting in the car from the house to the restaurant. It was a short drive; 2 blocks. So I didn't think much of it.

yup, there was a thread somewhere, someone asking how much it costs to replace the screen/digitizer because the screen cracked when he sat on it while ZU in the back pocket.
Gotta be careful...

I wonder, from what point it stops being a faulty design... I mean, not all of us are made the same. If a 200kg (about 400lbs?) guy sat on it at the wrong angle, I would not blame Sony at all... A steel sheet 5mm thick will bend under those kinda weight...

Even if someone of 40 kg would sit on it while on the rear pocket I would not blame Sony. If I remember well you are living in Vietnam, I have the phone everyday on my front pocket and drive scooter but my phone is still perfectly flat.
I do not put it on any too tide jean, and as soon as i sit completely on a car or chair I do remove it before sit. If not it is on a bag. So scare to break it, after all this phone is so thin and have so large and thin glass on it. I had to change iPhone glass of people siting on there sofa, same thing can happen here.

BINGO. This was my only concern regarding the Ultra from day one. I even wrote about it hear. I don't think you are the first to do this and you wont be the last either. Point is how do you know the integrity of the water resistance has not now been comprised? You don't!
I love the Ultra BUT putting that beast in a pocket was simply asking for eventual trouble. As you wrote how could an aluminium frame that dimension prevent twisting?
Sorry you had to experience this.

With great respect to you Sir this is not a Sony 'problem'. THE 'problem' with the Ultra is portability. Woman can use hand bags men will try and use trousers. The Ultra is simply to large for general trouser use. Add to this the materials used, glass, plastics and Aluminium and what can we expect? Even titanium at that thinness will eventually flex. This, to me, is a classic example of a device defeating its own purpose.
I love the Ultra I love my Z and 10.1 Z tablet. I have gone back to the plastic smaller world of the new Note 3 as I know I just could not live with the portability problems with the beautiful Ultra.
There are only two tragedies in life. One is NOT having what we want the other is having it.
This will solve itself as long as you live in a temperate climate with seasonal change. What i'm trying to say is: Winter is coming, and we will use jackets/coats which will make our lives much simpler. To the people of SE Asia, Africa, Australia, Southern Europe and Southern USA, i'm very sorry

I personally keep it in my jacket pocket or in the jeans pocket, and sometimes they are really tight, and 80% of the time the ZU pops out a few inches from them, but my phone is still perfect.
On the other hand I think that aluminum bending on this device would be so limited that you can't even find out: phone is resting (face or back) on glass.
In no part the aluminum touches the table.
And even if you do manage to bend your device, I think it would have been much more than keeping it in a pocket. It would be all misaligned from angle to angle, at the point that the glass would break for the force pressing every time you lay it flat or you use it.
I wouldn't mind seeing pics too before saying any more things.

Guys, any phone will do this. I am sorry that the OP experienced damage, but if anything it's the fault of the larger dimensions of the phone, not its thinness. Think about it: what constitutes the vast majority of a phone's thickness? It's the internal volume, obviously. It's the internal volume that was reduced in order to make the phone thin, not the thickness of the frame or glass sheets. Those would be the same regardless of how thick or thin the phone as, as they're just "caps." The fact that the phone is longer and wider than usual will allow you to exert more torque on the frame because of leverage, but the frame itself is no weaker than any other phone, and probably stronger than many.
Just put a lanyard on it and hang it on your neck...
Worry about it being stolen while hanging infront of your chest? Then place it under your shirt!

Yeah, I am very careful about pick-pocketers in Hanoi, so I try not to put it in my back pocket anyway
It fits my front pocket fine, but I find it a bit hard to get it out while riding my bike, find it harder to answer it one-handed, and even more difficult to put it back into the front pocket while riding the bike. Depending on other things I have in front pocket, I have to stand on my bike while riding to put it back into the pocket.
(for those of you who don't know Vietnam, it must sound crazy )
Can't wait until winter so that I can use my inside jacket pocket.

There is nothing wrong with the phone. Nothing wrong with the build quality, or the frame, construction... none of that!
The phone fits in pants pocket. I use the front pocket. If you do carry it in your front pants pocket, be aware that sitting down with the phone in your front pocket will place torque on the phone, twisting it. My phone was NOT twisted enough to even consider it damaged. I just noticed that it wasn't perfectly flat when I placed it on the table. I twisted it back and corrected it.
After that little incident, I now make sure that I take it out of my pocket when I get in the car, or sit down. So, guys, becareful.

The MW600 works well for bluetooth call access/audio while the phone is tucked away. I listen to internet news while riding a motorcycle.

Interesting indeed. Your reply would have been just as fitting in the post I opened under accessories section about how people carry their ZU :good:
Do you keep the phone dangling on you, or into a pocket while it is like it's on a lanyard and pull it when needed, or do you attach it to a bag of some kind and keep it in there??
I can see it being used in a million different ways... How do you use it?

Just two things.
One: it's the 29th, you posted on 23rd.
Two: several people asked you for pics, and you posted none. If you had time to open a topic about it, you sure have some to take 2 simple pics to prove what you're saying.
That said, until you do post some pictures, I call BS on the whole "the ZU bends if kept in pockets" argument.

Pictures of what? My twisted phone? I am not twisting my phone again just to provide you with pictures.
My phone got twisted, I corrected it, and I advised other pocketers to be careful. There's no evidence to be had. You obviously read only my original post, and omitted the one on page 2.
I use it for safety mostly. If I am at work the phone stays in my pocket(front or back) while attached. When sitting down it might rest in my lap depending on the meeting or I unsnap(the clip mechanism is really-too stiff) it and set it on the table or my desk. I might leave it dangling when tieing my shoes.
I had it in a jeans pocket while riding a motorcycle for less than a mile., and I have <1/2 millimeter play or travel on a flat table. Lanyard to front camera diagonal is fine, but headphone jack to opposite corner wiggles a little. I haven't tried unbending it. I could try to take a photo, but there likely wouldn't be much to see.

I have been showing mine off at the office and all the time someone is holding it, especially one handed, I just cringe. My two year old likes to hold it herself while she plays the games I downloaded for her so we are always sitting and I have a pillow on her lap to rest it on. Man! I can't wait for decent cases to become available for this thing.

I'm looking to get a good case asap also. I had 2 close calls. one time it almost slipped holding it one handed. althoughi love the look of the aluminum back, it is very slippery. I usually try to always hold it with 2 hands. this thing is light as a feather compared to my ipad1 but being slippery makes me Leery of one hand use till I get a case.
had another major scare when my 16 month old daughter took the thick, heavy Comcast cable remote and banged it pretty hard against the screen. you know how lil kids like to bang things in their hand up n down. I was like WoooooooA! so glad this thing has gorilla glass. no scratches or anything from that. I think because its so thin and flat, its pretty much baby proof if they bang on screen with their hands/palms. my Ipad held up to alot of abuse also and I kept it mostly in the official apple case. I have the targus truss case also that I mostly use when traveling. it provides maximum protection but adds alot of bulk/ thickness. my Ipad survived daughter constantly banging on it, drops flat on the screen on hard surface, and drops on the corner of it on hard surface. it survived it all with no screen cracks or scratches on screen. I'm pretty confident the prime can even hold up to more abuse. I don't even think ipad1 had gorilla glass. I am looking for a good case though. I saw a nice one in accessories section of a leather one at amazon. its on sale for like only $11. there's a thread or link to it in that section of prime forum. I forgot the name of it case. looks good.

Yea, I know what you mean. When people are asking me questions about it I can tell that they are looking at me. But all along I am looking at it making sure it doesn't slip from their hands.

My screens already lose so I need a replacement I'm scared if I drop it screen might become worse
I haven't dropped mine yet, but I took mine to work one day. My boss was talking about how she wants to buy the Ipad 3. I showed her mine and she asked to see it so I gave it to her. After looking at it, she sat it on the desk and the spun it so she could at it in landscape mode. I cringed when she did it but figured it would be fine because of the aluminum backing.
Come to find out yesterday when I looked at the back, there are about 4 small scuffs, two on each side of the logo, which I deducted probably came from my boss turning it around on the desk :'(. I guess the back isn't as tough as I thought. Luckily, I had already called game top 2 days after I bought it asking for an exchange because of screen issues. I just hope the replacement has the same build quality and screen as this one. Compared to my original transformer, the whites looked much more true on the Prime.
Dropped mine, but only from a 2 feet or so, but I tried to soften the blow with my toe. It cut it instead, haha, IT TASTED BLOOD. Anyway, careful, edges are quite sharp when falling ^_^

In my IT Shop that is called the "Technical Tap". Quite useful in some situations though it should be performed by a qualified technician!

I do that all the time to TF101 and the plastic has no scratch. Why Asus had to changed the back to aluminium? It causes only problems...
Hey guys. Just thought I'd give you a headsup here.
I've had a bunch of phones (listed in my signature), but I have never encountered this before.
The other day as I was gaming I kept bumping my hand into my phone over and over. This has never happened before, despite that I normally put it on the far corner of the mouse surface to have it readily accessible. I didn't think any of it first and just moved it up, thinking that maybe I accidentally moved the surface or such, causing the phone to move.
Then in some downtime in the gaming I looked down and realized the phone was moving. My god! There was practically zero friction! My phone was just gently gliding around the mouse surface, lolygaging about. I had a little fun with it, poking the phone to make it slide a different direction and making my cat freak out with it.
I then put it to the side on the table, thinking that my hardshell mouse surface was probably so low friction that it made the phone slide around. But the same thing happened on my wooden desk. It kept sliding around. Then I turned it over with the display upwards, and it was fine.
This morning same thing happened, and it actuall slid off the edge of my kitchen counter (marble) and into the floor! The phone is fine, by some kind of miracle, but I was surprised it managed to pick up enough speed to not get stuck on the edge of the counter. I tried pouring some water on the counter to see if it was leaning, but nope. Flat on both according to the water and a spirit level.
My only conclusion is that the phone is so flat all around, including bezels, that it creates a small air bubble underneith it, which it then slides on. The feeling is that of an air cushion as well.
I realize most people probably dont put it display down, but if you do, be aware of this. My phone almost jumped to its death by it, surviving only by a guardian angel. I thought about it and decided it was a big enough risk to give people the headsup.

Good to know. Where I am, they only sell cases for QuickWindow (last I checked). I bought one, but it is taking a while to get used to holding the phone when talking since I can't wrap my fingers around the phone.
I was considering taking it off, but that notion is no longer in my head thanks to your post. BTW, you should post some vid on messing with the cat!
Hah, I just might. She's like.. "Oh, looks like fun", pokes it a bit, notices how it doesn't act as expected and is all like "BLAARGH" smashing it around and trying to kill it. xD
The screen is very silky, compared to my S3, Atrix, Kindle and my friends HTC 8S.

So what you're saying is glass is slippery? In other news the sun will set in the west tonight. Just kidding, but I wouldn't ever put my phone face down without some type of case to keep the glass from contacting anything bad. The Nexus 4 was extremely slippery, the way LG is making curved edges on the screens doesn't help in that regard.
Well, I've learnt to put mine screen down to protect it from things falling on it. The nature of my job means things may well fall on it. I use a screen protector film anyways.
And yes, glass can be slippery but doesn't have to be. None of my other phones have had this kind of behavior, probably due to them having a slight lift from the frame, keeping the glass off the actual surface.
Regardless, for some its a non-issue, but for those that it might affect, I thought I'd share.
Hoverboards are next. I can feel it.

This is a good point. I usually flip my phone screen down at night so the notifications LED isn't lighting up the room. Needless to say, my dog wasn't very amused when the phone slid off the nightstand and woke her up.

thanks for the headsup, on low friction surfaces things slide.
You check if you need to level your furniture so gravity doesnt make things slide
a case would help as well
Pretty common occurence also on the shiny plastic Samsung devices Even iPhones suffer from it.
Again, it's most likely due to the curved glass edge of the LG screen. I prefer the curved glass, and my best suggestion to those that need to put their phone face down due to work hazards should probably put a case on the phone. If heavy things have a chance of falling on it, it's probably a good idea the phone is either in a case or in your pocket. Just friendly advice so please don't take it as otherwise.
I had the GNex before so wasnt an issue...but day 1 with the phone. Put it face down on the counter top like I had always done before and got in the shower. My wife comes in and all the sudden.....BAM! My phone hits the ground. (thankfully on the mat!) She said she saw it kinda "gliding" towards the edge. Low and behold, this thing almost floats face down on any slick surface. I almost never put it face down anymore...lesson learned.
Just thought I would throw out a little warning about our awesome phone. Ne very weary about keeping these in your pockets. I noticed a couple weeks ago mine had flexed a little and would no longer lay flat. Not a big deal, so I just went on with my life.....Fast forward to Monday, I put my phone in my pocket to go to work only my screen didn't make it. It was shattered when I got to work.....
I did not bump the phone in my pocket or anything. I babied that thing and the screen still shattered. So.....heed this warning....be very careful!! If you notice it is starting to flex when you lay it flat and it wobbles, be very careful with it!! Luckily I have a protection plan on the phone so I will only be out 50 bucks, but this is the second time I have had to send it in since December which leaves the question, are these phones durable enough for heavy every day use????

I'm curious as how this happenes...
I've REALLY bent mine when trying to get it out of a case, it bent but did not make creaky sound, also I keep it in my jacket left pocket and occasionally when sitting I hear it hit the chair etc etc, makes me wonder if these situations happen because MAYBE of some random manufacturing faults?
did the touchscreen work after it shattered?

If you want to be completely precise. The digitizer and the glass on top of that broke. The actual display did not break. I have dropped that phone 4 feet onto concrete, dropped it onto a tile floor, banged it around in my pocket like you mention above and it didn't even scratch it.
I have heard of other phones having similar issues and I thought people were just being dumb, lol.

Both, lol, the phone seemed tough with the spills that it had taken only to break in my pocket.
Let me guess, you are talking about keeping it in PANTS pockets, not a shirt or jacket pocket.
I've never had an issue with keeping a phone in my shirt pockets. There is no stress on it. My daughter has ruined several phones keeping them in pants pockets.

heared this often on the ZU. The problem is that you need a chase bevore you put it in your pocket, because this device is so thin, that you easily could break it in 2 peaces.
FOR EVERYONE: THIS DEVICE NEEDS A STABLE CASE TO BE CARRIED IN PANTS!!!

hehe yeah i get what you mean, it holds up to being bumped & dropped on concrete, but breaks in the relative safety of a pocket.
However, it was possibly weakened over time from the other spills and drops, and in addition to the added stresses on it (as mentioned above) from being put in your pants pocket, it just gave up?
Yes it's probably best to put on a case while carrying this in your pants pocket (i have the incipio dual pro shine) BUT
For the first few months of having this phone, i always put it in my front pocket with no case and no screen protector, i was a bit careful though. But still my phone hasn't cracked (thankfully) or bent (also thankfully)
Maybe I just got really luck who knows!
It had the incipio dual pro case on it the entire time I owned it. Lol.

thanks for the warning, i'm definitely nervous about this phone
I really loves to use my ZU naked but i afraid that 2 possible things would happen to my ZU:
1)Is in my tight pant's pocket and im working in a workshop. So i might it on some metal when im walking.
2)I tend to drop the phone once a while. Everytime i dropped it,1st things in my mind was "Shot,pls dont crack my lcd/glass"
So i decided to add more protection with metal bumper.
But whenever i remove the cover,it tends to scratch my SP. So i bought 10pcs of cheap SP n will change it whenever i want...

extra strength
i bought the glass-m front and back hardened glass screen protectors for this thing, and they stiffened it right up, plus i have the terrapin folio on it, i also have the incipio dual pro, both cases seem quite snug with all the extra glass, phone is really sturdy! glass-m was around $31
Just bought a couple of XZU. One for me and the other for my wife. Both of us love the device so far. But today i came across an issue that got me really worried. Apparently the device is very fragile and warps just from regular day to day usage. So, i was wondering how do you carry the device and how many of you have a warped device just by carrying it in your pants pocket. And what measures should i take to preserve my precious device. The sony blog is flooded with complains of spontaneous cracking of the screen which is related i guess. These devices retail in my country for around 300 USD. Considering its config i thought it was a no brainer to buy it. But now i am really worried. So to summerise, how fragile the device is really and what measures should i take to protect its integrity. Sorry if i am asking something that's already been discussed. Will really appreciate any input.
I've had my first one for well over a year now, and the second for 4 or 5 months.
Neither are warped or bent, both have taken dives out of my truck on to concrete. The last dive did split the top plastic bezel and broke my flip case. The flip case is the only protection that they have, and I don't always use it. The device is either in a cargo pocket (if I'm at work) or front pocket if I'm out and about / on the town

Mines twisted pretty bad from being in my front pocket, sitting down, etc. When I place it flat on a table it wobbles, but I think it's amusing. It honestly doesn't bother me one bit.

I have only had my phone for 2 weeks and I was sitting outside of Starbucks with my phone on my lap, and this yellow jacket bee kept flying around me. So I stood up to get away from it, while forgetting my phone was on my lap. CRASH! My V30 without a case falls off my lap about 20 inches down onto the cement.
It caused a small spider web crack in the corner of the back glass. One of then cracks extends to the camera lens area. On thr bright side the screen is fine and the camera lens is fine with no cracks. Plus its only mostly the corner thats cracked on the back. But still, it really really sucks since I just got this phone.
I know some of you are thinking I was stupid for not having a case. Maybe so, but keep in mind I pretty much never had cases on my 6P or my S7 Edge. I only dropped my 6P once real bad on a hard surface (fell out of pants with a smaller pocket while sitting) which only left a scuff on the edge with the display fine, and never once dropped my S7 on a hard surface in over a year with it. So I have always been super careful with my phones. Never dropping my phone in years that was a result of my clumsiness or carless.
I guess its just a matter of time though no matter how careful you are handling your phone. Its bound to fall somehow when its not your fault. Like sliding off a slippery surface, falling out of a small pocket, or similar. Anyways I called a local phone repair shop and the good news is the back glass is only $70-$75.
I don't think I am going to get it done just yet since the display is fine, camera lens is fine, and its only the corner of the back. But I probably will eventually before I resell the phone in 1-2 years. Anyways kind of disappointed a military certified phone cracked for such short fall. This is why I prefer metal backed phones so much more. Anyways hopefully this info of how easy it cracks and the cost to replace the back out there being pretty cheap helps some others out there.

Yeah, I watched a couple of videos on what happens to GG 4 & 5 with drop tests and decided mine would stay in a case. Added bonus of keeping finger prints off of the actual phone back and just on a plastic case.
I have several cases I've bought to put on my LG V30 when I actually buy the phone. You can buy very good cases for even a couple of dollars on ebay. I started the LG V30 cases thread, because most people don't know that.
You can even buy clear cases if you still want to show off the phone.

Yeah I already have a case, I just didn't have it on because I don't really like having one. I got it on now though. Ita a slim fitting case by Lumion. I never heard of this case company before but I really like it. I'm probably going to give the Spigen Crystal case a try too.

I'm very sorry for your accident. Ugh.
At least you know it can be repaired easily.
If the glass is still smooth, you can always put a skin over it.
This is one concern causing me pause in my purchase. Why there can't be a nice carbon fiber replacement back for this phone, I don't know. Motorola had a good idea going with the "design your own phone" during the Droid Turbo / Turbo 2 days, they just gave up on it too early.

That's the beauty of carbon fiber composites. The resin it's molded in is waterproof, gluing is about the only way to attach it to anything, it can be built up as thick as needed to create a reliable sealing edge or stiffness to the back. And it's radio transparent, so no issue with wireless charging. It can be textured, to make it more grippy.
The ccf aesthetic isn't for everyone, I get that, but it would be great as an option, and would be completely workable.
That is a bummer that it cracked. I am super impressed by the strength of this device though, my embarrassing story about it. Bought a new TV for my living room, decided I needed to take my old TV down to the basement and thought I could wrangle the 60" TV by myself, took two steps down and slipped, fell super hard all the way down the stairs with my phone in my back pocket. Huge bruises on my back, butt, arm and legs, the phone I was positive was a goner. Took it out of the case and to my amazement not a scratch and the glass looks perfect, however there is a size-able dent on one side of the phone and it is pushing the screen out. Everything works perfect and like I said, it did not crack at all, I am not a small guy, between me and the TV it took a 300 lb hit on the edge of a step and then several more hits down the stairs.
Of course I went to T-Mobile and they laughed and said "We can't take a bent phone back" luckily I am still in the 14 days grace period and will be adding insurance so I can get a replacement. It works, but is a little annoying to use this way. And to end the story on a high note, I did save the TV, did not let go of it!

A quick and healthy recovery!
My wife had dropped her v30 TWICE already in a week... Both times it luckily hit a corner and no glass cracked or scratched. Just a scuff on the metal of each bottom corner. So damn lucky with that so far... her case finally showed up the day after the second drop.

Whyyyy couldn't have mine done that?!
Actually I think the sides of this phone are super reinforced. Way more than more glass phones. I think mine just fell at the absolute worst angle that hit it just right. Just thankfully it was not the display!

Thanks! I also found the glass back is on Ebay for only about $18 and comes with the little tool to replace it. So I might just do that myself. I watched a video of how to take the back off.
I only have 2 worries if I do it myself.
1.) Making sure the new glass back seals on tight enough still be at least mostly water proof and
2.) Removing the finger print sensor from the old back to the new back. The video I watched doesnt show how to remove the finger print sensor. But once I find a video on someone removing and reattaching the finger print sensor, then I will pull the trigger for the $18 glass back.
So much for military certified durability :laugh: :crying:
Also you'll lose the ip68 rating by replacing that yourself most lowly just a heads up. Watch the video of Jerry rig everything. When he made a clear v30. Really good on how to open phone
Happened to one of the phones on my account. Fell about 3 feet on a wood floor and the back has a hairline crack. I'll skin it, put it in a case and be done with it.

That's quite a story! That should be in a V30 durability ad. Opening shot of the big dent and bulged screen with the phone speaking in "android voice" saying, "yeah, I took quite a beating, but you should see the other guy!" Then a fade in shot of you looking all sheepish and bruised from head to toe with a final fade out slow-mo reenactment of the fateful tussle.
