[Q] Unable to Send/Receive MMS with Sony Xperia SX SO-05D - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Everyone,
I recently purchased an unlocked Sony Xperia SX SO-05D and am using it outside of Japan. I am not able to send or receive any MMS messages. I have updated the APN settings so that I'm able to get on the internet via data. When I go to the settings in the messaging app there's not even any options/setting for MMS like there was on my Xperia go. Does anyone know how to fix this?
Thanks in advance for your help or suggestions.

Check the specs of your SX and make sure they are compatible with all the bands that your provider uses.

Yea already checked that. I'm able to get on the internet no problem and the APN settings are as per the carrier. However the option for the attachments doesn't even show up in when writing texts. And if people send me MMS messages I don't receive them. However if I use a third party app like FB Messenger or whatsapp I'm able to.

Messaging APK.

Looking for a messaging APK that can be side loaded to my jetstream. If I send a text to my # from my phone it goes through but I have nothing to view it with... Or a good alternative app. I have text plus but want to use my number and go native if possible

How does messaging work when I only have a data plan? My messages do not go through. no notifications or such for them.

You can use text plus in the market or other apps. I installed text plus yesterday and it works fine, I would just prefer it being native.
PS. You can also use an art app that well connect your phone to your tab and let you sync both.

not sure. I'm assuming you would need more than just the messaging apk though. I'll look into it.
Just grabbed Handcent side loaded from their website
Works great.

If you have an at&t smartphone just download at&t messages. Thats what i use. It syncs text messages between my phone, tablet and pc, and i can send/receive from any of them.

It's a great option, but only if you are not a corporate account user.

Installed handcent. Works fine. Alittle buggy with the contact sync'n but works. Any way to get the MMS to work? I know the Jetstream is locked down to at&t which is fine but you can't edit the APN to ad the MMS settings. I'm sure it will work if we can just edit that APN. I know the tablet can be unlocked to allow this with other carriers but how do we unlock it with at&t to be able to edit the apn settings..?
What extra fees would be applied to my account if I used this?
I only have a data account. No phone.
I use Sprint for cel phone.
I don't see a need to use the messaging on my jetstream. It would be awesome to sync my texts from Sprint, but thats probably impossible coming across two networks like that.
If you are not using att sync, which only works with an att phone, you get charge a per text fee

There are several Messaging options from your JetStream
Whatsapp - Installed & working on my device - allow sending to & from the device to any other mobiles (Text/ pictures / clips) - works perfect - No need to root or anything.
GO SMS Pro - works perfect on my rooted JetStream - with Notification of incoming SMS, allow me to send SMS from my JetStream to any mobile or receive SMS directly to my JetStream - I am using an ORANGE sim card after i SIM Unlocked my Jetstream.
Also after unlocking the Bootloader and root , i have the Phone icon, with the Phone dialer, allow me to dial from my Jetstream - generate a call, but no voice on both sides (this still need to be solved ) .
i installed handcent today and finally was able to create my online ATT account. I had to send a text to my device but it didn't have a native sms app to receive the text from ATT. (good job ATT).
But...handcent is just an overload for me. Could they possibly add another option for customizaton? Lol it would take me a whole day to go through the settings menu. I would prefer something plain and simple. Just my taste.

Since you live in Ireland, use a webtext app from the market. Such as; Cabbage or TextDroid.
Just login with your details.
I presume you are using some irish network?
Meteor, o2, vodafone etc....

I have the same issue.
A somewhat broken workaround.
I installed Handcent SMS app. This shows me caller ID but I can't reply with it!
Sending SMS for me only works with the stock app.
The problem is that I can only send 80 character SMS with the stock app. And there's no caller ID with it.
Still searching for a workaround.

Xperia Tablet Z messaging?

I noticed while reading about the xperia tablet z, the launcher has a messaging shortcut. Look in the top left of the tablet z, third icon. Will the xperia tablet z support messaging???

I think that's a typo, though I agree it is confusing. Afaik you can only send SMS/MMS with a working SIM card. Since the WIFI only version doesn't have a SIM slot (trust me, I checked ) I think it is impossible to send SMS/MMS with the WIFI only version.
You can, however, install Google Hangouts and send instant messages to your Google contacts. I think Hangouts is very promising and could be replacing Whatsapp for me when it becomes more widely used. It also backs up your conversations in the cloud which is a big :good: for me personally.

What makes the LTE version not able to make phone calls? Is the a hardware limitation? Or a custom firmware would manage to do it?
Hangouts (and even Talk, actually) have a pretty good sync with desktop app, which is crucial for me. And I agree, the cloud history is also a big plus.
Thanks and greetings.

Did you got an answer? I got the LTE version... no phonecalls (outgoing/ingoing), no data connection... what is for then? only for sms?
Any body can help / clarify?
EDIT: data connection is solved. APN was not configured at all. Will finally be enabled the voice call on this tablet? (any cooked rom?)

[Q] Can't send photos via SMS

Hello,
I've tried on a few occasions to send photographs to a couple of people via SMS and it's not working. The only message I get is: "Unable to send after multiple attempts."
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what to do please? I've tried going into the settings to see what I can do but unsure what I am looking for.
Many thanks,
Pedro
You are sure that your provider has MMS services activated? Sending photos needs MMS, not SMS.

Hi there,
Apologies, I did mean MMS. I'm pretty certain I have this activated as I've been able to send before. Will double check though. If all ok, what else can I check?
Thank you.
