XZU mistaken for iPhone 3 times. (Gold Metal bumper effect) - Sony Xperia Z Ultra

Well I guess I should have expected it, but I was asked three times today if my XZU was the new iPhone. I kinda laughed it off and showed off the screen size.
If anyone is looking to "impersonate" an iPhone apparently this is how you do it
The metal bumper is off eBay (search .7 mm metal bumper) if anyone is interested. It is very thin and probably will provide minimal impact resistance, but should provide good abrasion protection. It is a slippery but holding the phone is not a problem as you grip on the corners. However if you put the phone flat on any incline surface it can slide rather easily. All holes seem to be cut properly and I haven't had any problems with any micro USB cables. Can't comment on the Mag Dock as I don't have one.

Your average uninformed user will pretty much mistake ANY gadget for a iphone or ipad. That's marketing for ya! And yeah, it's moderately annoying, but I've gotten used to it over the years.

They must be shocked to learn that there are actually phones existing out there other than iPhones.

I remember when i got the first Galaxy Note.
- "Is that an iPad Mini?!" - NO.
- "Woah dude, is that an iPad?" - NO!
- "That's a tablet right?" - Nope.
Luckily after a couple of months and people started to buy the S3 and other Samsung devices, reactions were "a lot" better. They did actually "know" what it was (almost) "Is that a Galaxy phone?" - Yes. (Success!)
Haven't really had any reactions from other people yet with the Ultra. They just stare at it, like A LOT (thinking "what the **** is that??") and then they walk away

I think they have some similar to them on amazon.

When I go to college I have all my class mates ask whether it is a tablet. And so many of them like to compare the size of it to other things like McDonald's straws, faces and feet

I was in Bestbuy yesterday asking about windscreen mounts and there were quite a few bestbuy staffers around the mobile phone section. None had seen an XZU before and were blown away by its size. It was fun to actually impress a bunch of geeky people who are quite casual about technology which they sell all day.

Immensely... I took a sharpie to the logo on my black bumper. But the champagne one is annoying. Their laser etched too...

Hi OP is that a grey or white carbon fiber wrap ? I'd love to get one for my ZU as well A link to where you bought it would be great :good: Cheers

Zenus Vintage Leather Wallet Case

I'm not usually one to spend a bunch of money on a case...but this one looked to awesome to pass up:
http://zenuscaseusa.com/
Sold on ebay for $59.99
That's nice.. I'd use it as a wallet!! Lol
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using XDA App
I also picked one up. I'm a little bit scared of the magnet messing up the screen, but hopefully the covers thickness helps a bit
As nice as this case is I'm a little skeptical about its practicality. For one the wallet/case appears to add a lot of extra bulk to the phone, kinda making it to big to put in your pocket.
Second, it is a case-wallet. Would you be using it as a wallet as well? If you are keep in mind that if you ever lost your phone you would be losing your money, credit cards, ID's, etc along with it. Basically you would be getting screwed in 2 ways if your phone happened to get lost or stolen.
Third, unless you have a Bluetooth headset it seems a little too cumbersome to have a call on. The flap seems like it will get in the way unless you fold it back.
Lastly, the price. $60 for a case is just a lot of dough. I'm not one to cheap out on a case but for this to work for me I would not only need the case but a full body kit such as Zagg, Bodyguardz, Phantomskinz, etc to go along with it.
Don't get me wrong its a beautiful and classy looking case, just not sure if its for me.
I like these cases a lot. I think they may appeal to many people. I have always wanted a case that incorporates a wallet. However, my ideal case would be a big rugged Trident, Ballisitc or Otterbox that allows you to slide in a few credit cards.
I should add that I like the look of the cases. I haven't actually seen them in person.

I agree with pretty much everything you said here. That being said....
I currently use a Credit Card Case for my IPhone 4S and have carried my License, Credit Card, and Debit Card with my phone for the last 8 months. I absolutely love being able to not have to carry around a separate wallet. I haven't lost my phone as of yet, so no worries about losing my credit cards...but I understand how that might be a concern for some. It just simply cuts down on the number of things I have to scramble around the house to find before I can go out. My checklist currently is (Keys, Phone, and unfortunately...cigarettes). Now...would I prefer to have it in a non-flip case format (like what I'm using now)? Sure would. But until someone comes out with one for the Note, this will have to do.
On that note (no pun intended), case manufacturers need to pay attention here. I suppose when a phone is as insanely popular as the Iphone's are, it makes sense to make a wide variety of cases. Android phones don't seem to get the same kind of love. I would buy immediately a thin case that allowed me to slide a couple of cards on the back of the case..but alas...no credit card case android love.
Will this hold the i717 tightly? My flip cover for the N7000 does not fit on my i717.

I asked a seller on eBay about this and he assured me that it would fit. I get the case today, so I'll let you know once i test a phone
No phone yet, but this case came in today!
wow! it looks a lot lighter than i expected. Still nice though ^^
How well does money fit in there? I pre-ordered one from ebay as well, and I'm just waiting for it to come in.
I've been using an iPhone wallet for months now and love it. I can't go back to using a standard wallet. I already got my hands on the Anymode wallet case with a swivel stand, but I'm not happy with the little bulk the swivel button adds in the center.
Since I'm a noob I can't post a link yet, but its one of the two tone wallet cases on ebay that have the picture window for the a drivers license. I also find that the swivel piece moves a bit too freely.

Sorry to hear that!!!! When I ordered it said more than 10 left....Guess they had a rush on them.
My Advantage came with a case like this. Even though it offered great protection and the ability to stand the phone up, I found it to be too cumbersome so it never saw the light of day. I got a belt case instead.
I can see why you bought it, impressive...kinda retro-classic...but still tasteful; not overdone. Right out of a Gibson novel. A unique case for a unique device.
Interested how this eye candy will translate into practical daily use. Feel free to update.
No worries on the magnet. The notes amoled should be okay with the magnet, just don't rest it on your laptop at home or worse get near a plasma tv!

Haven't seen that one, and the corners look more rounded than the Sweet Armor is. I can't help but wonder though about the screws. They go through the aluminum such that if it is dropped and it hits on the corner, the tiny screw will take the hit in shear. Unlike the Sweet Armor where the aluminum shape itself is taking the hit. So, I wonder what they did to keep the tiny screws from shearing off in a drop.

Having never had an iPhone I have no idea what that is. The Sweet Armor also uses screws.
I looked at more pictures. It would appear that this case uses two screws to hold the parts together. One big C and one small C, so to speak. A left and a right half rather than a front and back half like the Sweet Armor.
Also, from surfing Ebay it seems like it might hold the screen further off the surface you might lay it on, which in my opinion is one of the shortcomings of the Sweet Armor.
It definitely looks nice. It's a little pricey at $50 though. Just debating on whether to take a chance or not.

Duralumin
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Duralumin (also called duraluminum, duraluminium or dural) is the trade name of one of the earliest types of age-hardenable aluminium alloys. The main alloying constituents are copper, manganese, and magnesium. A commonly used modern equivalent of this alloy type is AA2024, which contains 4.4% copper, 1.5% magnesium, 0.6% manganese and 93.5% aluminium by weight. Typical yield strength is 450 MPa (65 ksi), with variations depending on the composition and temper.[1]

I'd be willing to bet that the price will come down to under $20, just like the Element vapor knockoffs were for the iPhone. I bought the knockoff for my iPhone and it was as good as the original I bought from Element.
$40 is way too much.

I got Gold Don Star case. I used to have sweet armor case for galaxy s2. When I compare the two the biggest difference is the material.
The sweetarmor is more of metal feel. When it hits something you will definately know it is some kind of thin metal or aluminum. With Don star, it is more of plastic feeling.than metal. it feels durable, and the fit is tight and well, but I hear sqeaking sound when i press right middle body. It is great case overall though. It does not interfere with any reception of gps since the material isn't metal.
Make sure if you have fat finger, you will have hard time reaching for the power or volume button since there is no rubber extension comes with case. I have hard time becuase i have big hand, but i can live with it since the case looks awesome.
Overall good quality but i don't know how long it will last, and the price is bit expensive compared to sweetarmor. I bought it for bumper use only.(i have front screen protector and the battery cover, I will buy another battery cover when it gets too much scratch)
I will try to post a pictures soon.
i bought one off ebay like 3 weeks ago and am still waiting for it.

Looks pretty good for $16... I ordered one to give it a shot. Hopefully the picture of the Galaxy S IV is accurate for the note 3 as it looks like the little rubber pads could be cut down to allow my slightly bigger wireless charging back cover to fit, if not oh well thats easy enough to change out.
Even the $30 knock-off lifeproofs for iphones suffered high leakage rates. There is one issue with the sealing band, and your $700 device is SOL. I wouldnt trust it at all.
I am curious to see your results. I really want a solid Water proof case if possible. Wish you luck and hope it works!
If this actually works well then that would be cool but I personally wouldn't want to be the one to test it out lol. I just refrain from taking my device anywhere near water. If it does manage to keep your device from getting wet then that is a $15 well spent.

I could not agree more. A waterproof case is nice to have, but how often are you swimming with your phone? The most moisture it will get is sweat or rain. I am in the Army, in Hawaii. We are outside all day doing stupid stuff in the rain. Rains all the time. A prepared ziplock is just as good
There is a good reason we don't take our phones swimming. They are not waterproof.
if they were. WE WOULD take them swimming. Baggies are great for protecting your phone from moisture while its in your pocket or your back pack. it sucks for shooting video through

What I'm really interested in about this case is the headphone jack.
For me it doesn't need to be completely waterproof as listen to music while I Mtn Bike or trail run with it in a jersey pocket...
I have always used a Dry Case with my other phones
http://www.drycase.com/
This works great to keep condensation out of it as you can suck the air out, however the Note 3 is just a little bit too big for it.
So, while it may not be something you are interested in, this is almost exactly what I'm looking for, 100% guaranteed waterproof would be nice, but not necessary for me.

I wish they made a waterproof for N3, honestly. The best part about work when I had a failphone 5 with a LP case was turning screen up, open notes write "HELP ME IM DROWNING!" and stick phone in a full pitcher of water only to have everyone freakout whenever they saw it.
I dont care if its big, Its fun to traumatize people that way.

Yeah close to the dry case, however no headphone port or one way air valve to prevent condensation... I have had lots of condensation form in ziplocks despite my best efforts to remove all the air.

Got a badly translated message from the seller about a warehouse issue, they refunded my order and took down the listing. I asked if they had any timeline for restock, or knew of any other sellers, or more information about the item and they didn't, so I'm suspecting that because the picture showed Galaxy S4 that they maybe have not produced a Note 3 variant yet.
I got my case. I am impressed. Waterproof? yeah not me buddy I won't be testing that with my baby inside.
water resistant? a very optimistic yes. I am really impressed with it so far. impressed enough that I will be doing a long term review and actually use the case for a while and see how it goes.

Oh. trust me. this case will NEVER intentionally see water with my baby inside it. no way. waterproof? not a chance. water resistant? probably.
I will test the water resistance with the dummy phone.
My balls are no where near big enough to trust my phone to it in any serious water. no freaking way
I don't need to waterproof my phone, just something I can use to play Ingress when it's raining (I'm in Vancouver, so it rains quite a bit here). I may just get one of the bag type setups (or use a zip lock bag)
yep. bag it and use a bluetooth controller is your best solution for that.
4g still works but the signal is degraded inside the case. I assume all signals are degraded to a point.

Ghostek Atomic LG G3 Waterproof/IP68 Case

I was just about to order a Ghostek Slim Armor for my G3 (yes it rips off the Spigen LG G2 styling Slim Armor casing with the squared off design; the Spigen Slim Armor for the G3 is more rounded all around) when I happened to notice this that just popped up on Amazon in my search results but didn't a few days ago:
http://www.amazon.com/Waterproof-Ghostek-Atomic-Attached-Protector/dp/B00TEFF3YA
Never heard of it till just a few minutes ago and considering the "introductory" price of $24.95 I'm damned seriously considering pressing that pre-order but right at this moment.
It looks fantastic, has an IP68 rating apparently but I can't find any actual info about it. There website needs a lot of work apparently as it's borked in ways I can hardly believe and was directed away to their Facebook page (I mean, really?).
Doesn't appear to be nearly as big and bulky as an Otterbox Defender would be, probably not as much as a Commuter either but they don't make a Commuter for the G3, they have something new called "Symmetry."
Regardless, I really am just so close to buying this case, it seems like a big winner to me - especially for $25 - but I think I'll wait a few days and try and get more info. Hopefully that pricing will remain in effect for a bit...
Anyone else have any opinions on this particular case, I'm curious if others would consider it worthy of protecting their G3 based on what it appears to be offering, and again that price is crazy if the retail will be $80 normally when it's officially released next week.

I seriously doubt it. There seems to be no protection on the camera. I would not trust this as water proof. Splash proof maybe.

Lew Later Case

After waiting for about 4wks due to the current situation, it has arrived....:good:
For those that like slim fit this is the one to go for or the Pitaka, the feel on this one is different and must say absolutely fantastic.....:good:
Highly recommended.
Is it a bumper case? Based on the picture it looks like it.
Can you take a picture of the bottom/front? I like it when the bottom of the case is cut out for smoother thumb swiping on the actual screen.
Sure thing here is the top & bottom.......:good:
LOL how big is your hand...your pic of your hand holding the ultra looks like my hand holding the smallest s20 LOL which is kinda thr reason why i got the s20.

Hahaha the reason I went Ultra , I have rather large hands........?
Thanks for sharing! Personally, I need the magcase to fit into my ecosystem. Also I do not like the wide opening on top and bottom, the Pitaka cases are way better in this regard.
Also, I will never forget how shady this Lew treated Pitaka - I tend to have a long memory in such regards. For that reason I will not buy a latercase.

I generally don't like magcase.. I noticed it affects compass, gps and occasionally phone signals.
Used it on my older phone, the note 8.

Thanks for the pictures. What about the lens? Are they covered fully protected? or if you put it on a flat surface they will touch the surface together with the case?

Should not be the case (lol), as the case itself has no magnets whatsoever - I am using them since the S8 and never had any issues.
But then, there is always the pitaka aircase without the metal plates.

As the pictures show, it just covers the camera bump, but offers no protection on the lenses themselves. Its designed to be a slim fit case which I much much prefer .....:good:

LOL you got scammed my dude! You just bought a chinese white label case, over @ aliaxpress available for 1$ from the most disgusting, lying tech youtuber for 40$ Lew just scammed you out of 39$ with it's bootleg design case. Also there are better 0,3mm (thiner) cases out there that look&feel the same for 1$ also with a waiting time of 4wks due to it coming from china like this 40$ case. Lew wen to a chinese manufacturer and made him produced these, each costs him just a few cents to make, but sells them to his braindead audience who gobble this shiat up like nothing with a 9999999% mark up. Making that easy money.
Duncan if I was you, I would not tell people that you got that case. I would keep it to my self and think about the decisions I make.

Nope, the Pitaka Magcase has no magnets, only very thin metal plates embedded in a way th allow and not disturb wireless charging. The magnets are in the Pitaka Car Holder, e.g..
The Pitaka Aircase has no metal plates embedded and is even thinner.

forgive me for getting involved - - but I wondered why you felt it necessary to attack the way you did? Why not just share the information you have without the attitude (and desparging comments intended to make the OP feel bad about his choice) why not just share the facts and give the OP a chance to either accept or reject it? Why do you feel like you have to attack the way you did ?
not cool at all - and totally unnecessary.
It is great to offer advise and share information in a helpful way - but we all should really try treat people the way we want to be treated.
