No boot animation? - Ubuntu Touch Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Since there's no boot animation on the touch preview do you think there will be one in the final version?

I wouldn't doubt that one will get written at some point...
Quite possibly the least of their worries as October 17 isn't too far off.

Go and get yourself a Nexus 7, it's one of Canonical's targeted development devices.
I use my phone for making calls and other mundane but critical daily functions, so I am leery about experimenting with my phone; however, it's a different story with my n7 tablet. I can flash any available ROM and do unspeakable things to it and I am able to maintain my level of service for daily living.

There are two separate products.
http://www.xda-developers.com/andro...buntu-for-phones-coming-soon-to-galaxy-nexus/
Ubuntu for Android which was announced about a year ago or so.
Ubuntu for Smartphones was announced yesterday and is a different product.
U4A = a dual boot type environment. when you are walking around it's an Android phone...when docked it's a full fledged Linux OS.
U4S = a full fledged Linux OS...no android at all.
i would love to see this in action. i expect the Carriers to be a big hurdle. AT&T and Verizon will not want to give up control over the handhelds on their network. but just like the ISP has no control over your device's in your home, i hope the consumers can eventually push hard enough that the Carriers go the same route. but to date AT&T still makes the manufacturers lock down their devices and if they could they would revert back to the days when rooting your phone was illegal.

HTC Infobar

So I just randomly came across this on flipboard, I found the UI to be intriguing!!
Part of me isn't sure if the DNA would be able to run the software very well, at least not without a lot of work, and I have no coding experience. I, however, think it would be awesome to run this on the DNA. If there are any Devs out there that would be able to get ahold of the software and would be able to attempt cooking this for the DNA I would be very happy and excited to run this UI.
Here is a video of the UI:

XDA App
Yeah, it is definitely Windows-espue on the middle screen, but more advanced (I can see how some might find it slightly cluttered, I like it though). The right screen seems very much like the Android UI, just flipped at 90° (vertical page scrolling vs. horizontal). I would be fine without the left sceen; I guess it would make finding certain things a little easier though.
I just wish/hope some of the awesome devs in the DNA community would be able to get ahold of this and make some magic!

I find the warping animations a bit ugly, and have never been a fan of HTC's UI design in general. I would definitely prefer Windows Phone.
its not exactly HTC its more like a custom rom for a custom device....its KDDI Japan's custom UI (heavily modified sense rom), running on their device
4 seemed slow and choppy

Collection of Boot Animations for the Nexus 10?

I was wondering if there were any good boot animations for the Nexus 10. I have searched XDA and found ONE for the Nexus 10. Even other sites that have boot animations are simply upscaled from the Nexus 7, which are quite poor in quality on a WQXGA screen. If anyone has any good boot animations, it would be awesome if you could post them here! Thanks!
P.S. If anyone has a HQ version of the AOKP boot animation (the one about initializing swagger), I would be much obliged!
EDIT: Figured I'd add the boot animation I mentioned.

Here you go! All thanks go to PartimusPrime. I've been testing for weeks lol
There is 2 versions here... Decide which you like better
It is hard to get a boot ani to look good at our resolution and be smooth... I think he did an awesome job. The first one he sent me was like 24MB and he got it down to 6-8.. Our stock one is like 5 lol
Fabulous.

What about the first one? The one that is heavier. I'll check when I get home :good:
The big one is full screen, the smaller one is scaled down about an inch smaller all around than the screen, I like the bigger one... Both get a little choppy right before it boots

Like boo says they are both a little choppy at the start but I found the bigger stayed a little choppy whereas the smaller one smoothed out.

I think it is worth mentioning that the down-scaled one does not expose ugly square edges. :good:
There's a couple of other things I can do to try to get the animation smoother...I can render the scaled down version at 18fps instead of 24fps...and to make it full screen I can change the desc.txt file so it'll stretch the image and scale it up...not sure if that'll cause a bit of loss in image quality. What you guys think?

Nexus phones and their updates.

I just got my first nexus phone the nexus 4.I wish I took this route earlier. Of course Nexus phones get the updates right away but how long do they get them for? Did the nexus s get jellybean? I'm just wondering how many years it takes for the hardware to be outdated on a nexus device before updates stop rolling in.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
I guess 2-3 years, since the gnex is now 2 year(?) It got 4.2.2 and words say 5.0 is the last update. while the nexus s only 4.1.2 but 4.2.2 is available via custom roms.

Yeah this is what it seems like. I guess in these days 2-3 years is a good life time for a cell phone before it gets completely outdated

Eh, I'm sure it will be released eventually. (Probably not too long from now) If you're rooted, most of the HTC "stock" ROMs already have this stuff baked in. If not, our time will come! :good:

Quick question:
What happens to those of us who have a SIM unlocked One with a custom ROM (CleanROM)? Will we still get the firmware update in some way, for example will be able to just flash it or something? The option in the settings menu "AT&T Software Update isn't there for me anymore.
