[Q] HELP! Need to get back to ICS from GB RUU - HTC Rezound

Before I hard brick my phone, I'm hoping someone can help me get back to an RUU.
I was unlocked and running a custom ROM, but was having some video problems. I was on the HBOOT 2.28 Global ICS FW. I did the JuopunutBear S-off last night, so that I could run an RUU and go back to a stock Firmware. I got S-Off, and flashed back to a GB RUU, RUU_Vigor_VERIZON_WWE_1.00.605.3_Radio_RS_0.93.00.0914r_3161C1_9K_NV_8k_1.12_9k_1.83_V_APT_release_216261_signed.exe
The RUU completed fine, and I was able to boot into the stock RUU GB. I decided to S-on again, because I was hoping to start getting the OTA updates. After I went S-on again, I couldn't get it to find any OTA updates available.
I thought maybe it was too old of an RUU, so I tried running a newer one like RUU_Vigor_VERIZON_WWE_1.02.605.6_Radio_RS_0.95.00.1013r_3161E_9K_NV_8k_1.12_9k_1.83_V_APT_release_221502_signed.zip
RUU_Vigor_VERIZON_WWE_2.01.605.11_Radio_RS_0.95.00.1123r_3161E_9K_QMR_release_233635_signed.exe
I couldn't get either one to run. I thought maybe it was because I wasn't S-off anymore, so I unlocked again and tried to re-run control bear. S-off kept failing, and then realized I had forgotten to root my device. Now, when I power on, I get the HBOOT screen, and then tries to load the Juopunut screen and just sits there.
I can get to the SD card using a USB card reader, and I can get into HBOOT.
HBOOT shows version 2.05.0000 S-on unlocked eMMC-boot but doesn't show any radio versions?
Not sure, what to do now?

Why on earth would you have gone back to GB?
Also, Son or Soff is irrelevant to OTA updates if your stock.
I would get the last official RUU, 3.14.605.12 and load that... You should be able to then OTA to current. Or just Soff again, flash radios and hboot, and a stock ROM image.

Can you tell me how to get that to install from where I'm at now?

Basically, download the RUU file, rename to PH98IMG.zip, copy to SD Card, boot into H-Boot, the system will detect the update file, confirm the load, and the rest is automatic but be patient, it will reboot several times... even after it comes up give it 15 minutes to settle down before doing anything crazy

Awesome, glad you got it working... now be patient, it should update in a few steps, first to 3.14.605.13, then after that is up and working it should upgrade to 4.5.605.14. Sometimes this can take a few days to occur. If it doesn't, you will need to S-OFF again and manually flash the hboot/radios and ROM.

Like ace said, probably too old... probably don't even host the update on vzw's servers anymore. Generally, from what I understand, as long as you don't S-ON while on jp's hboot or some other hboot, you should be able to recover. ONLY S-ON if you are on a booting stock hboot and rom (RUU is safest).
It's pretty hard to hard brick other than that (afaik).

[Q] wanting to go to s-off. confused about what firmware i should download

So i have the 3.14 RUU version of ICS running right now, i am rooted and unlocked as well (no problems with phone at all). It shows that i am on hboot 2.11 when i go into the BL. When i go onto the juopunutbear site for Rezound it gives a list of which i need to download. My question is what firmware version do i need to download GB firmware or ICS firmware (3.14 leak) and do i need to update to a different version of hboot. I flashed the GB patch after i flashed the 3.14 RUU after i unlocked and rooted.
I have read so many posts on s-off for the rezound i am getting very confused. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
You don't have ICS firmware on your phone. 2.11 is the OTA for GB. ICS is 2.21 or 2.25. If you are on GB firmware (which you are now) you need the GB modified hboot. If you upgrade your firmware to 2.21 or 2.25, depending on which RUU you run, you need the ICS modified hboot.
ok so i have GB firmware ( the hboot 2.11 ) . so i need to update hboot to 2.21 or 2.25 then correct. That wont mess up 3.14 leak that i have right now will it?
Do s-off with GB download then don't do the RUU. Instead flash the jb hboot and 5/7 radios along with a from that has been updated past 5/8.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using XDA
do i flash the GB 2.11 hboot (JB) or an ICS hboot? This is starting to sound like i must have GB all across the board
ICS 2.21. As you will be using the newer radios. Also, don't unlock, as you can flash anything with either of the patched hboots even if locked.
And no you don't need "GB acrosed the board", just trying to make it easier with less flashing of hboot

Oh also forgot to mention, if you got a spare SD card. Use it for the s-off exploit, you will thank me later.

i am actually starting with a practically new sd card as i wiped it completely the other night. lost all my pics, somehow retained my music though. all that is on their right now is the stuff i used to flash 3.14 ruu last night. but i have another spare sd card as well not that it matters since mine has nothing on it that i need though.

If you flashed the 3.14, then you need the ics jb soff files.

when i flashed the 3.14 my hboot still showed as and still it 2.11. I dont think it should show as this right?
He doesn't. Has hboot 2.11. He need to flash 3.14 using the PH98IMG.zip to get the updated firmware and radios. Then s-off using the ICS jbear firmware.
Yes I know that he can flash them separately after s-off, but it will just be easier to flash the RUU first.

Ahh I see, you are on 3.14 w/ GB firmware.
@Emerikl
From my earlier post. It was a serious question, no disrespect to you nor sarcasm at all.
No worries man. No harm no foul.
alrighty so i need to update the hboot then to ICS...looking in the firmware thread i choose ICS 2.25 stock 5-7 right?
aircrew85, you need to get the RUU from here download that and rename it to PH98IMG.zip.
Put it on the root of your sd card boot to the bootloader. Let it do this twice. The first pass updates the hboot and may hang for a long long time at the white htc screen. The second pass updates the system files and this takes a long time also, so make sure you have your battery charged.
***WARNING*** This will erase everything on your internal sd card, so if you have anything on there you want, get it off before start the RUU process.
Then do the S-Off technique using the ICS firmware option.
Flash Amon Ra or TWIP for your recovery.
Flash whatever ROM you want
aaaaah ok thanks!

Go to the bootloader screen and tell us what hboot and radio versions you have.
Hboot 2.21 is gingerbread.
2.25 is the first ICS OTA.
2.27 is the global update.
Did you run an RUU?
That should work.

Anyway, that means you are on Gingerbread.
So you can either flash the GB RUU, or upgrade with the ICS RUU.

All RUUs work s-on.
Only flashing hboot/radio individually requires s-off, and downgrading RUUs.

Need to lock the boot loader before running the ruu if you're s-on.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk 2
This is the process I've used from what I've read here many times.
Place the PH98 file of the RUU on your ext SD card.
Relocking the bootloader always has started the flash process for me but if it doesn't.
Pull the battery.
Boot into bootloader.
Let the RUU flash.
Let the phone boot but don't set anything up.
Shut down the phone and pull the battery.
Reboot into bootloader again.
Flash the RUU a second time.
Boot the phone.
Delete the PH98 file off your ext SD card.
Power down and pull the battery.
Boot back into the bootloader and do a factory reset.
Reboot again and enjoy.

THANK YOU!!!! Thanks all around! I am proficient in adb and rooting and unlocking bootloaders but what ive come to realize about htc is the whole s-off/s-on crap. as soon as i relocked the bootlooader and flashed the ruu already on my sd card i was able to get booted back up. im running a s3 as my my driver and dont really have to deal with radios and hboot, but when i had my thunderbolt it really started to bring back memories. thanks for the help guys!

HELP! Rezound refuses to pull ICS update (or any update)

I recently re-locked my bootloader (never had s-off) and flashed the appropriate RUU to restore my device back to complete stock, however now it won't pull the ICS update and I'm having a hard time figuring out what issue is. Is there any chance that someone can help me get this working? When I check the status of the upgrade server it's completely blank except for the source: Verizon Wireless and code: 0 any idea?
Flash the GB RUU and it will update to ICS after the install. If you flashed the ICS leaks then you need to S off so that you can get back to GB. Getting S off is very easy. I would recommend it so you can flash all the new roms.

Hello, I have a stock Rooted Rezound runniong 2.3.4 android. I got prompted to install ICS, and i delayed it, and it installed anyway and my phone would not get past the HTC screen. I have cwm installed, and i reverted back to the day i rooted.
How do i get the phone back to "stock" so i can get the OTA properly. is there a thread i can follow? i am s-on i think. (how do i tell, i thought i was s-off, see below for the bootloader screen)
when o go to the boot loader it says
*** UNLOCKED *** (in pink)
VIGOR PVT SHIPS S-ON RL
HBOOT-2.11.0000
eMMC-boot
You are S-On.
Download the GB RUU.
Relock the bootloader.
Run the GB RUU.
Let the OTA install.

so which one do i flash theres 3 different roms.
how do i figure out which one i am on
1.00.605.3
1.02.605.6
2.01.605.11
also is there another link for the fastboot tool? so i can lock it again? Will these replace cwm on my device?
You have boot 2.11 so you need to get the 2.01 ruu. And yes it will return it too 100 percent stock including the recovery. You want to keep kt that way until after you update with the ota.

What happens when you check for a new update? Does it sit there for a couple seconds and then just disappear and not say anything? Or does it at least tell you that "there is no update available"? I had this same issue on the GB update: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1469246
basically what I had to do what activate my SIM on another rezound and then put it back into my original and it started pulling the updates.

I was able to lock the device. Push the RUU 2.01 (like recommended) I then pulled down two OTA updates. One "prepared for ICS" the second installed ICS

Need some help with new Rezound

I received a replacement Rezound today and have messed it up beyond my repair. When I powered the new phone on it was on the old GB software. I manually searched for an update which was finally found. I downloaded the update and went through the process of installing it. About half way through the update, a red triangle with an exclamation point appeard. I tried this process twice and then decided to run the RUU that I had installed on my sd card from my prior phone. The RUU was the most recent ICS.
At this point I was not S-off or rooted, but completly stock. The RUU did not fully run but it did update my HBOOT and Radio's. When I boot the phone, it is still on GB software. I have some how changed my bootloader to show Tampered as well.
I was able to flash a zip file of AmonRa 3.15 and was able to flash ViperRom 1.03. I thought this would correct the problems and allow me to S-Off but it did not.
I thought that if I could S-off I could maybe get this all straight. But I am not sure.
At this point, I have a phone that reboots after a few short minutes.
Any help will be greatly appreciated!!

If it tanked doing the OTA ICS update right out of the box, I'd call VZW for another phone...
Thank you for the reply, but my hboot now says tampered and relocked. I do not think I could send the phone back in this condition and get a new one.

[Q] Trying to RUU to update my firmware not working.

So I'm currently on Flyhalf's CM10.1 (S-ON), and I checked the recommended firmware/radios for the ROM and realized I'm outdated. It calls for Hboot 2.26 and radio 2.23.10.0123r, 2.23.10.0124r. but I'm on 2.25 and 1.22.10.0421r/1.22.10.0424r. I just updated to the latest version of the rom and I keep getting random bootlooping as well as the rom being way more unstable than the previous build I was on for about 4 months.
So, I'm trying to use Wildhorse's guide to updating firmware through RUU in hopes that it will solve my problems and it just plain isn't working. I've put the RUU in my external SD as PH98IMG, waited for my battery to charge to 90%, shut off the phone, pulled the battery, then gone into Hboot to flash it but I keep getting "No Image or Wrong Image" and it just goes back to the main Hboot screen every single time. Can anyone explain to me why this is happening even though I'm following everybody's directions exactly? I've been searching through the forums for about 2 hours now and I can't get an answer.
I'm still kind of new to HTC devices and how they work, so if anyone could help me figure this out I'd be very thankful.

Can anyone explain to me why this is happening even though I'm following everybody's directions exactly? I've been searching through the forums for about 2 hours now and I can't get an answer.
I'm still kind of new to HTC devices and how they work, so if anyone could help me figure this out I'd be very thankful.

You are on a leaked firmware, the currently available RUUs are all older than that, and you can't go back when you are S-ON. You need to S-OFF then you can RUU back to 3.14.605.12 and then OTA back up to the current 4.5.605.14

Okay, I was really hoping that wasn't the case. I hate to ask for more help, but I don't really understand how I'm supposed to get S-Off when I need to be on the stock RUU to do it, and I can't get on the stock RUU because I need to be S-Off to do so...
I hope I'm not stuck this way. Technically I'm on all the same software as I was yesterday, but now I'm getting random reboots all the time as well as bootloops that either go on for ten minutes or never end. I was on a build of CM10.1 from may with Amon Ra recovery, then tried to flash the newest TWRP that requires the new firmware (didn't realize I was on older firmware) and it bricked my phone. So I put on an older CWM recovery, tried to backup and it froze in the middle of every backup it tried to make. Put on an old TWRP, backups worked, so I flashed the newest version of CM10.1 (again not knowing I didn't have newest firmware) and that's when the bootlooping/rebooting started. I recovered to the old version of CM10.1 and the issue didn't go away, so now I'm just trying to figure out what I can do to get my phone in a usable state again.

Hey, wait a sec...
My bad, I just double checked, and with that Hboot/radio combination you are on stock ICS firmware already! Just RUU version 3.14.605.12, that should work without issues if done correctly and you should be back to pure ICS and can then allow the OTA to upgrade you in a few steps to 4.5.605.14

Oh, thank god. Hahah. I didn't remember ever flashing any leaked firmware before, so I was kind of confused there. I figured I may have done it somewhere in the unlocking/rooting process and just couldnt remember. Okay, thanks again for the help. RUU's have always confused me with the way they work. I should be stable in no time hopefully.
And now I'm having more issues... I can't use the Rom Updater because somethings wrong with my usb connection. I can plug it in and transfer files and such, but trying to use any ADB commands results in "Device not found" and the Rom Updater says it can't connect to my device either. My HTC Drivers are up to date, so I'm not sure why this is happening. Is there any way I can just get the PH98IMG.zip for 3.14.605.12 instead of having to use the RUU?
Not really sure what you are trying to run, I didn't think there was a 3.14.605.12 executable RUU, but use this page and instructions and grab the file: http://www.androidpolice.com/2012/0...cream-sandwich-ruu-for-final-ota-3-14-605-12/
Remember you will need to RELOCK the bootloader if I am not mistaken it is possible to hard brick if you don't!
Then copy to external SD card, name the file PH98IMG.zip (beware of the Windows "double zip" issue), verify MD5 on the SDcard, then reboot into hboot and go. Do it twice!!! Let it boot up and sit for about 10 minutes to calm down, then remove the PH98IMG.zip file from the SD card. Everything should be smooth sailing from there...
You should then be S-ON, completely stock. You will need to unlock again to do anything more

Strange, re-locking the bootloader was all I needed to get the RUU to update in my bootloader. No one else said to do that in any of the instructions, but I did it and immediately it started updating with the PH98IMG that I was originally trying to flash (from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=38527788&postcount=745&nocache=1&z=1965375486761331).
I'm back to stock now, but firmware is 4.03.605.2, not 4.03.605.14. Is that going to be an issue or can I go right ahead with re-unlocking the bootloader and flashing recovery/roms?

Well, I have some good news and bad news...
Bad news is you are now on a leaked firmware and will have to S-OFF to go up or down in versions unless a full RUU is released for the current OTA of 4.5.605.14...
Good news is you are the global leak, and you can use the JuopunutBear S-OFF exploit from http://unlimited.io/index.htm just as if you were on the original ICS release. Also, you can S-OFF and use most ROMs and recoveries as you are now on a global mode firmware.

Lol, all right, I would have tried to get the right firmware on there but my phone got so buggy that it wouldn't even boot into the rom anymore. So I couldn't get it on the SD card and I had to make do with what I had on there. At this point, I'm just glad the phone is usable again and I might leave it stock for a while. Thank you so much for all your help, I couldn't have figured this out without you!

Cool, glad you got it working.
That firmware is actually pretty decent and rock solid stable, you shouldn't have any more software related issues... Plus you can root/ROM like normal from that version, the radios may be slightler lower than most recommended versions, but they should work fine. If you do decide to go the ROM route again, I would suggest going S-OFF before starting, it will just make it easier in the long run.
Hey, just wanted to ask some questions as a follow-up since this seems to be the most relevant (and active) thread to my issue:
Long story short, got a new (to me) Rezound. It was running CM10, from the forthnightly thread. New SIM card from Verizon and I was getting data, but the no mobile network found error. After reading the threads I could find on the error, went with the suggestion of a wipe and so I did. A few too many beers while reading thru the forums, and I did the wipe a bit too thoroughly. Now I have a no OS found, and instead of thinking I know what I'm doing I'd like to ask to make sure I understand this correctly.
Currently, the phone is S-OFF, with TWRP 2.5.0.0. It's saying I'm not rooted, but then again no OS to be rooted. The dump from my bootloader is as follows:
*** TAMPERED ***
*** LOCKED ***
VIGOR PVT SHIP S-OFF RL
HBOOT-2.28.0000
RADIO-2.23.10.0123r/2.23.10.0124r
OpenDSP-v14.6.0.7708.00.0507

After checking this thread and this one here it looks like the following applies:
* I can just run the regular RUU (executable) to load a stock image without having to revert back to S-ON first.
* I will have to re-unlock the bootloader thru htcdev after RUUing
* I'll need to reinstall TWRP
Is this right? Am I missing anything?

Okay, that's good to know. For now though, if I just wanted to get my phone working, make sure there's not a SIM issue and such I could go back to a stock image without worrying? I just would rather do a lot more reading and make sure I understand what I'm doing before I try to put a rom on and screw things up further.

No doubt its good to be cautious when you are s-off. If you are just wanting plain jane stock then you could just flash a ruu from boot loader.

Okay, so if I go with the image here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=38527788&postcount=745&nocache=1&z=1965375486761331
Would I still need to relock the bootloader since I'm S-OFF or can I just flash that from TWRP and go from there?

Honestly I don't remember if you would have to relock to flash that in boot loader sine you are s-off, but I do know it won't flash from recovery

Recovery as in HBoot or TWRP? Because I still have TWRP. I can get the windows executable RUU for ICS if need be.

S-off is S-off... installing a RUU wont change that, it may set you back to 'Locked", but you are S-off so it doesn't matter, you can stay locked&s-off and its no different than unlocked/S-off.
If you are going back to stock and are S-off I would use the Global Mode Leak (4.3.605.2) available on AndroidPolice and flash in Hboot... rename file to PH98IMG.zip and place in root of SD card (how it gets there is a irrelevant) then reboot into Hboot, confirm and wait.
