settings/system theming - AT&T HTC One (M7)

Haven't been able to find much info on this, especially info pertaining to sense 5 based roms. I'm looking to ideally restore the holo/nexus style settings/system menu. I like the look and layout much better than the sense 5 rendition. At the very least I would like to find a way to set the background color to the holo gradient or black as the white is very overbearing. I've found threads on this but they all require decompiling the settings apk which seems like quite a hassle to not even get the results I'm looking for. Is there anyway to replace the entire settings apk with the one from the GPE one? Or am I hoping for too much? I'm sure a lot of problems would arise from this but I, one of the few it seems, really like the sense 5 layout (esp blinkfeed) and after replacing most of the standard HTC apps with ports/3rd party alternatives I've been able to get much of the holo theme back, I'm just unable to do that with the settings/system and it irks me. Anyway, I'm rooted running trickdroid 10.0 (11.0 didn't play nicely with my phone), any help would be appreciated. This is my first post but I've been in the shadows for awhile, this is the first time in a year of using xda that I wasn't able to find an answer which is a testament to what a great community this place is! Thanks in advance

[Q] Make-your-own-widgets extra, extra, extra customizable while still being pretty

So, I've seen that there are a few nice widgets that allow you some control over the design of the widgets. BITS is very very customizable, Zoom looks amazing, so does Widgetsoid, and Beautiful Widgets are indeed beautiful.
I'm looking for one that allows a specific thing, though, and I'd rather not go through what I did with Beautiful Widgets (installing it, being very disappointed, uninstalling, finding I'm just a few minutes beyond the refund time period, emailing the very-helpful developer and asking for a refund anyway, and they're very nice people by the way).
Also, please be understanding; I've had a migraine coming and going for a week and a half, and I'm trying my best to distract myself from it. So this info is probably available but I just can't *find* it. I can't manage to brain properly, I just can't. Please excuse the rambling...
So. I like the size and look of the HTC Sense clock on my Sensation--the one that takes up half the screen but is very large and has nice contrast--and also the location/temperature/high-low predictions on it. I *love* the BITS ability to stick anything anywhere in the widget, and to have an app or shortcut launch from the anything.
Is there a design-your-own-widget that is as pretty as the Sense clock, with the same location/weather info, but will let me stick battery indicator and shortcuts all over it? And make, say, the location launch Maps, and the date launch my calendar, and so on? It doesn't look like I can manage that with Widgetsoid or BITS, Beautiful Widgets won't let me show all the info I want to show at the same time, and Zoom is just plain intimidating. I'm sure there are more make-your-own-widgets but these are the ones I've found so far.
Is this out there? Can it be done?
Thank you!

I would recommend Minimalistic Text. I'm not sure it will do *exactly* what you're asking it terms of design (but the possibilities are truly endless). There's a slight learning curve if you've never used anything like it, but once you get it figured out... you're likely to never look back.
Also, it's been a while since I've used it, but have you tried Fancy Widget? Back in the day it was a mirror image of the Sense flip clock, but it's come a long way... it was pretty customizable last I checked. Both apps have a free and paid version in the Market. Good luck.
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A
Well, hey, I didn't know that was what Fancy Widgets was That looks like it *almost* can manage everything I want. So very close, terrific! It only has fixed info it can display, but it can start any application I want from the info it does have.
I've edited one of the backgrounds to stick icons next to the places where I've selected them to start, and that'll do for now. Thank you so much!
Minimalistic text definitely didn't agree with the on-again-off-again migraine, though Maybe I'll futz with it again some other time. I'd really like a pretty 4x2 clock that also has actual shortcuts with relevant icons embedded in it.
I wish the battery indicator on Fancy Widgets stood out a little more, even were just a different color of text. I wonder if that's possible.

[Q] JB RUU Update, issues with launchers...

Hello everyone, new guy here.
I hope I'm in the right place. Yesterday after a couple of days debating I went with the RUU path. I updated my HTC One X (att) to JB thinking it was the best way to avoid any issues. Well I must say I'm happy to see improvements with Sense but my issues lay with Launchers. Previously I used Next Launcher (I had very simple backgrounds and themes, I only preferred it for the freedom it gave me with icon and widget placement. Maybe a few other perks). Anyhow, now that I've updated to JB these launchers no longer work properly. I've tried Nova, Next and Go EX. None of them apply completely. One example would be Next, I install a theme, go to settings to apply it and it says "preview cannot be found" (or something like that). It does apply to some degree, I can change the dock icons to the themes design but only a few of them. All in all, it seems as if the theme gets half of it right. I also tried to use Go SMS, and it also wont apply completely.
So I hope this isn't all child's play, other forums chewed me up and said these are toys and lame and all that stuff... If anyone has any ideas or solutions it would be greatly appreciated. As of now it seems as if I am going back to Sense for the time being.
I'm also considering rooting. I really just don't like the phones stock look. So if this is a good solution, let me know.
Thanks, The New Guy.

[Q] Way to change the grid in stock TW Launcher?

I know some folks have modded it to be 4x5 instead of 4x4, but one thing I hate is that so much screen space is wasted.
Because of that I run Apex Launcher, and have the grid set to 10x7 and the DPI is dropped to 250.
I just can't stand how so much screen space is wasted on these big phones.
Is this something that can be done?
I currently run Beans14.
I tried finding a guide or just some sort of explanation on how to mod the TW launcher too and never could find one, I believe I even asked in one of the other forums that was dedicated to modifying apps. I how that maybe youll get lucky with this post and someone will drop in and give us some info on how to do it.
I could never find out any info on how to mod the TW launcher though.....
If someone would post a little how to with a brief explanation on what needs to be changed I would gladly mod it for people, I just need to know how.
Also, would you mind posting some screenshots of your 10x7 setup please? I would love to see how it looks.

Android tips

Hi,
I finally made the switch to android after years of iOS and WP.
WP was really a failure in my opinion, and since android doesn't seem to lag that much anymore since 4.0, I thought I'd give android a shot.
I've been playing around and searching for tips and tricks etc, I'm trying to customize my UI to my liking especially, but I can't get anywhere close to those awesome UI screenshots I see people posting of their phones across forums. I'm currently using Go Launcher EX but I'm looking for cooler techy/nerdy widgets, live backgrounds, more animations (especially TV animation when locking the phone).
Can you give a new android user any tips and hints (anything from apps to general usage)?
Any essential apps (like CCleaner for android or something) that I should get, or any procedures such as cleaning the cache regularly I should be aware of?

Wow, that should get me started at least, thanks.
Do you have more launcher suggestions? I don't mind paying for it, but I'm looking for something that has a decent amount of themes to choose from and lots of customizability plus it should be stable and not lag.

[Q] Desire HD weather. (Weather animation on screen unlock)

Hey guys. I'm the type of person who loves his phone to be like a second home. My friend had an HTC Desire HD and it impressed me so much i actually wanted to but it off him, even though its about 2x worse in specs than my current phone, but it has the most beautiful user interface i've ever seen.
I'm talking about the HTC DHD weather unlock animation.
I first noticed it when i asked the friend to make a call and upon unlocking the phone the screen froze over and it started to snow, it was pretty amazed by how good it looked, and how accurate it was since it was really snowing outside.
Here it is. ( not my video, but exactly the same thing)
HTC Desire HD Weather Animation Snow - YouTube
I think this is one of the best looking widgets/launchers i've ever seen, and i have a question, not as much as a request.
I do know that this is "exclusive" to sense, most likely 3.0, but would it be theoretically possible to rip out the launcher/weather widget you saw in the video?
I am NOT asking for any warez, just some instructions, i feel like i'm dedicated enough to work with this for a few days just to get it.
I'm currently using a SONY Xperia GO , and i would like to port the needed things to it from sense (3.0?) to it. How do i do it?
Maybe someone knows a similar app that does this and looks like it.. But so far i've downloaded 20+ widgets/apps from the play store and didn't find anything ever NEAR as beautiful, or as functional. Most of the apps/widgets require you to click on the widget to see a weather animation, thats not what i want.
TL;DR : How do i port the sense (3.0?) launcher/weather widget? Is there an app that is as functional and looks similar?
Thanks in advance.
It's VERY difficult to port proprietary UI stuff like Sense based things to other devices. So much of Sense is not just based on the apps, but also on the framework-res.apk, systemUI,apk, and another one - htc.resources or something of the sort. Been a bit since I was that deep into HTC stuff. There just aren't going to be any easy or elegant solutions to this. As for a half assed work around, Go Locker claims to have animated weather stuff on the lockscreen in it's free version. Couldn't hurt to check it out? They have TONs of themes, but I find the Go Locker and Launchers to be a bit laggier than some. HTC has started adding some of their apps into the Play Store, including Blinkfeed, but something tells me that there won't really be a way for them to add the lockscreen as a standalone option.
