I got used s2 and the photos look terrible, maybe a hardware issue? Front camera quality is good. Stock firmware.

It's focused and all the settings are maxed in quality, yet the picture looks like it's 1mp. You can see it's pixelated everywhere.

I cant open it because im on my phone

Tubo watch on the back camera plastic lens it coupd be dirty or some scratch in it
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app

Took it apart, cleaned the lens. Recording quality is fine, same for camera free viewing around. After taking the photo quality seems drop in quality extremely. May try updating rom, camera firmware?

what firm are you?
if you are on the stock, try to reset settings in de camera app settings menu
or
downlaod a other camera app and test it if its is normal, if it isn't maybe hardware problems
I hope it helps

Camera delay

My camera is taking great pictures, but there is a long delay between shutter press and the screen returning to ready state. Is anyone else experiencing this? Is there a setting I have missed? Is there a better third party camera application with faster response times? I have had a number of Android phones and none have had this issue.

You have to go into advanced options and enable high resolution pictures, and there isn't a head focus, just a general focus... but if you're taking pics of something in motion, holy crap that does the trick. My note fired off 23 photos in 3 seconds.
Also check out lg camera in the market

Yes, And I don't think the camera was bad as the other guys mention above, It's a step up from our stock 2.3.6 camera.
I have installed a few camera apps, in addition to the stock camera app:
Fast Burst Camera
Paper Camera [awesome]
Camera 360
ICS 4.0 Camera
I keep the stock camera just for video etc., but find myself using paper camera the most.

lgCamera (not related to LG)

I found this thread in the main Android section. It seems like an excellent camera app

I found something weird. While using the lgcamera,if i touch the camera/recorder button mode (right-topsite), i hear a click sound and a vibration near the camera lens at the back. I think the sound does not come from the speaker, but from the camera lens, can anyone confirm?

recording video is better than stock app, but not so good taking pictures
I took some pics. But I found the stock cam is much better. Pics token with LG are not sharp and there is "a little fog" at the picture. You understand what I mean? ;-) App deleted!

Lost option to take pictures while recording video

I just noticed that I lost the option to take pictures while recording video from the back camera, but am still able to take pictures while recording video from the front camera. I noticed this after I flashed a few ROMs, but restoring from a nandroid backup or even flashing back to stock with Odin does not work fix the problem. Is anyone else experiencing this issue?

If you turn stabilization on (anti shake) you lose the ability to take pics while recording video. You just have to turn anti shake off and then you should be good

Anyone using camera 360?

When running camera 360 the screen seems to be out of wack. The image seems tilted and distorted. However, I when switching to the ffc and back it fixes the problem.
Anyone else have this issue? I'm on aokp m6 and the same thing happens on devil toast 0.74

Try using an updated version because it may have compatibility problems if you are using ICS.
The app kinda sucks anyway. But I think it's free and probably one of the better free ones. I users camera zoom fx, much nicer. But I always go back to the stock camera for some reason, got cool mods camera mod installed so it's a big improvement over htc's

I think UCam is the best free camera app. I'm thinking of paying and going pro! Try it out and see how it works. I can use the feedback so I can install it on my sisters EVO3D.

Sent from my PG86100 using xda app-developers app
I can take the pic just fine. However, it is the preview that is distorted. It happens with Ucam, Camera360, and sometimes with Camera Zoom FX
EDIT* I believe it was the aokp rom I was on. I flashed sense 4.0 and no longer have the issue.

Camera quality CM/AOSP vs stock.

I keep reading about the lesser photo quality of CM/AOSP compared to stock but I can't really see it.
I've used stock LP, then Cloudy's 2.2, then Euphoria and to be perfectly honest I can't see it. I'm a terrible photo nut and enthusiast and made many many comparison shots, but to my eye, picture quality on CM/AOSP is nothing but great.
For a little context, I've just very recently switched to the G2, coming from Xperia Z1 and there the difference between stock and CM/AOSP was incredible. Stock was so so much better, however I can't say the same about the G2.
And I'm not using any fancy 3rd party camera apps, just Google's camera and I find picture quality to be stellar. Honestly... What's the deal?
Here at some shots taken with Euphoria and Google camera (and a clip-on macro lens, but that doesn't improve quality... It just magnifies) are they anything but great?

I have to agree with you here. I have strained my eyes multiple times across all sorts of apps and stock cameras, and I just cant really see a discernible difference.
If any difference, I think its mostly due to post processing done by the stock app and the colour corrections etc.
Nice, informative post this.
Those are all very good pictures. The quality is good but all of those photos were taken with good lighting. CM/AOSP really struggles to focus and give proper quality in low light.
what about front camera ?
and what about low light shooting conditions - from what I've heard, that's where stock shines

same for me, i think just "mental paranoia:good:"
Those pictures just amazing. How much post processing did you do?
Personally I find aosp cameras slow to focus and very slow between shots. I consistently miss shots especially little ones. That's why I just stick to stock and does the job nicely.
Other thing is video mode, on stock you can pause and continue recording and I find it very useful. And if am not mistaken only stock can use ois
Yeah, a few of those were taken in very good light, but some weren't. Also there is no processing of any sort in any of those shots.
And regarding low light conditions, quality is not bad at all. See these for instance - no noise, no artefacting, blacks are black like they're supposed to be.
Again, these are straight from Google camera, no processing of any kind.

Honestly, as far as good lighting goes AOSP and stock are very similar.
The most noticeable feature is the nightmode as stock has a higher maximum ISO/working HDR. There's the ported stock camera which does wonders in nightmode, but not so much for HDR.
Forgot to mention, I mean the most noticeable differences are in VERY dark areas, or a panoramic view of city lights at night.

There were a couple of different DPI versions, I have no idea which one is this. I'm assuming it's the stock 480dpi. I use a 360dpi and I have a 360dpi .apk if you need it.

Second one has a bit less color distortion.
Thats the Google camera on default settings. First one is ported stock, on default settings. However, things start to change when you begin to lower the ISO. Then you can see the stock camera IS superior. Lowering the exposure to -1/-2 on Google's camera helps with better low-light shots, but the stock one is clearly better.
