G2 IR remote apps - G2 General

Any news on ones that have been updated and recognize this phone?
All the ones that I have on S4 and HTC One won't work on this phone.

I'd love an app that would let me program a series of blasts. It takes about 6 steps to turn on pip in my samsung tv.

I emailed the universal remote dev and he said lg isn't opening up the api for devs to make apps for it.

That's really unfortunate. IR on these phones is really a useful feature unlike gimmickry such as a fingerprint reader.

That's one thing I miss about the gs4. The remote app was much better. It combined all 3 remotes into one where I didn't have to switch tabs to control cable or tv power or volume on my A/V system. The channels controlled the box, volume av and power all 3

Lg already released SDK for remote app. I emailed the developer but he mauled that only few people interested in this app.

I also noticed that my s4 remote works better. I have to have my g2 pointed directly and at the right angle to get it to work properly. I was hoping it was an app issue and could just replace the app.

Have you made a custom remote in the app? I did and built it exactly how I wanted it. I made it learn each button and now it controls each device in my entertainment center on one remote. It's awesome! Pic attached.

I tried to make a custom remote for my TV/HTPC, and teach it from my harmony. But this was not working good. Sometimes it didn't register button press, but biggest issue it refused to send same command twice. So impossible to use volume and navigation buttons.
So I tried to setup my PJ, facing the phone agains my gain 1.1 screen nothing worked, then I found out I had to point it directly at my PJ for it to work (all my other remotes work facing the screen, and all my equipment is behind me). At that point I gave up rather disapointed.
Is this a software issue ? Is the IR too weak ? IR uses so little power, it seems stupid to save battery on a weak IR.

I'd be willing to say it depends on the physical aperture size. The HTC One has great range and tolerance to off axis use, for example.
Look at the opening. (power switch) The S4 is much more directional, for example.

I've done the learning thing from another remote, and it's learning it correctly... but the button doesn't do anything. like power won't work even though it learned power. weird.

Hmm, that's weird. On the custom remote that I attached earlier, I taught it functions from 3 different remotes which included a Harmony and it works perfectly. Power (from TV), volume (from av receiver), channel (from dish network dvr), guide (from dish network dvr), etc.

For some reason I never investigated the remote app further, can't wait to add a custom remote and see how it works.

I thought the same thing when I did mine. But I think I was covering the IR with my hand or something. The remote works good but the IR signaql isn't very strong. maybe a firmware update will fix it

eh..mine is for an RCA surround unit that literally no remote is able to control except for this ONE i found for my PS3 that does bluetooth. that remote works fine, but there;'s something wrong wtih it and it eats batteries in like a day, so i don't use it. i get up and control the entertainment system lol old school style...
but from that remote i had my G2 learn the basics..volume, power, etc...and it says "okay, learned, on to next button" but it just won't work when i use the G2.

In my opinion, the HTC One has the best TV/IR app. I didn't like the S4's app but in comparison to what we currently have, I guess it's not so bad.

I even set it to control the television at my local TGI Friday's.

Using the Note as a Computer

I was looking at the Galaxy Nexus threads and saw this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_--zcmqIyRI and decided I would try it out on the Note. I did this on my Evo when I had one so this isn't a new idea but I kind like it. This isn't an in depth video, it just shows you how it works with what I have working with it. The commands that the Nexus user can use with his keyboard I couldn't get to work with the Note. Not sure if its an ICS thing or what. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=laUNz7QJ9Wo&feature=youtu.be
I too have been playing around with this and it is a pretty novel idea. It isn't 100% there yet in terms of being a setup I could use full time, but it does let me travel without my laptop and plug in to a hotel TV.

I was hoping to put Ubuntu on my phone and be able to mirror that to the screen.
Any suggestions?

I just found an old Bluetooth Virtual Keyboard (it's a small black box that you set on a table, and it projects a full-sized keyboard onto whatever flat surface it's sitting on using a laser) I used to use with my Windows Mobile 2003 PDA and tried to pair it with my Note today. It works flawlessly! This thing hasn't worked with any of my devices since WinMo 5, and even then it usually required a driver to be installed. Not with the Note! Just need to be sure I have the Samsung Keyboard selected (but it doesn't need to be open). I just keep getting more and more excited about this thing (except for the dark splotches on my display and low Quadrant scores).
Ok this is neat for traveling. Anyone know what cable we need to connect to the lcd monitor?

You have to have the MHL to HDMI adapter for it to work. I got mine on Amazon for $22 including shipping and got it within 5 days. Then of course a bluetooth keyboard and mouse..works good. Does your monitor have HDMI?
Edit: If your traveling I'm sure the tv might have an HDMI...unless you stay in a Days Inn as I do..

Has anyone tried an Android Mirroring cable?

Saw this video about android mirroring but wasn't too sure if it is useful. This cable will be going on sale today but I have not heard of anyone using a cable like this.

I guess one of the benefits would be to hook your phone up to it at work and pretend to be working on the computer while you are actually texting or playing poker. I dunno.
i used to be able to do something similar over bluetooth or wifi a few years back, but i have yet to find the program i used, and i will assume you would need to be rooted. its a cool idea in many ways, but its use i feel is more of a cool or sneaky factor.
Yeah, I am hard pressed to find a really good reason to buy one. Being cool is a good reason though.

Looks nice, but I wanted to build an own app
Well if this person is a developer then you should be able to make your own app utilizing the IR Blaster. I'm guessing it will involve you needed the source for the IR, but if this developer is able to use the HTC IR, then maybe the source is either open source or a standard source for IR Blasters. Maybe you can contact them and ask how they accomplished it.

Probably won't be your answer but htc is offering an Api for devs and supposedly released sdk for it ..

I love this app... My local sports bar hates it though...
But the phone already has the app built in why pay 10 bucks for an app that the phone already has built in. I use mine everywhere. It's great whenever I have to stay at hotels because sense tv even tells me what's on.

My TV didn't work with the codes in the default app, nor was it able to "learn" from the remote for whatever reason....the SmartRemote of HTC app on the market for $5 worked perfectly.
No idea why, but that might be one reason some folks might choose not to use the built-in app.

Only option appears to be a play store app. The one called Tap Tap app seems like it does the job, but the reviews are less than stellar.
As my E4GT aged and the buttons became less dependable, many of us started using Gravity Screen On, an app I can personally report as highly functional, does the job (differently), yet takes a degree of patience to get it behaving the way you want (can drive you nuts, but get past that, and you may be pleased),
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.plexnor.gravityscreenofffree
As to natively doing this, I've seen it tied to kernels for HTC phones, the Nexus series (not just the LG variants, but the tablets, even the Galaxy Nexus), but as to the Note 3 specially or an Xposed module, nada that I can find.
Would love to have it. Wouldn't buy a phone without a replaceable battery or am external SD, but that is one cool feature. I hope someone corrects me on this and unearths something.

I'm pretty sure it's tied to the kernel.
Though I've seen it done with the internal knock sensors.
It can be a huge pain to get working reliably.
The screen at the moment has to be on to accept input.
It sounds like a cool idea.
Then reality sets in....
Actually if you could implement this without...
Errant random screen taps waking the phone.
Battery drain from having to keep part of the system up watching and interpreting screen taps.
Hmmm mm

That at least confirms my suspicion. At least you can give Gravity Screen On a whirl. The free version has full functionality, and your battery doesn't take too bad of a hit on the process. Like I said, it's not something you immediately love, but you can get used to it, and does the job well. It just doesn't work the way the swipe to wake or knock to wake features work.
