Note 3 with Galaxy S4 charger? - Galaxy Note 3 Accessories

So I just noticed the charging port on my new Note 3 is different than the one on my chargers (which I had been using on my Galaxy S4).
My old Galaxy S4 chargers still seem to fit and charge, but they only take up half of the charging port.
Is it okay to use them? Is there an advantage to a charger that is made for the Note 3?

Note 3 has a USB3 port, while the S4 has a USB2 port.
It's okay to use a USB2 charger in a USB3 port. However, a USB3 charger will charge your phone faster.

Any USB2 cable (== charger) will work with the Note 3. The port is a USB2 port + an extra bit for the USB3 pins, so it's compatible with both.

I owned (was stolen) an S4, I Keep my note 2, and I've had on my hands the note 3, all both includes exactly the same White charger in the box (5v/2A) no matter if its White, Pink or Black, samsung will include the same part.
Use the usb3 cable only for high speed data transfer, using an usb2 cable for charging has no impact on charge time while the wall charger power it's the same.
P. D. I'm waiting to see the new nexus 5 prior order the note 3, considering how important maybe Android 4.4

I also have the desktop multimedia doc for my s4 and note 2 and that doc works with the Note 3. It doesn't go in as.easy but works fi ne

The only benefit in using the usb3 charger cable is when connected to a PC because it charges at .9amps with the usb3 vs .5amps with the usb2. on the wall charger is all the same because the output is controlled by the adapter. Hope this help!

So you guys are saying the USB 3 cable doesn't charge the phone faster when plugged into a wall? It sure feels faster, but I could be wrong

No way it charges fast on Wall charger, only charger fast when connected to a usb3 port on a pc, as paitobp said.

So you're saying it charges faster when connected via USB3 to a PC, even faster than when plugged into a wall charger?
I haven't been able to test this myself, but so far in order of fastness I can see a clear distinction between the following:
USB3 Cable in Wall charger > USB 2 Cable in Wall Charger > USB 2 cable in PC.

No, it's faster when connected to a wall charger (2A vs upto 0.9A).
Also its well know not every usb2 cable charges fast you need one from Samsung or equivalent capable to handle 2 amp w/o raise resistance due cable temp.

So you've confused me, as it seems you're saying two different things:

+1 ^ what he said.

Sorry if I misspell,
Note 3 will charge faster on Wall charger no matter if you use the USB 3 cable or an GOOD USB 2 cable.
When connected to a PC with usb 3 ports, using the USB cable will charge faster coz pc ports are limited TO 0.9 amp on USB3 AND 0.5 Amp on an usb 2 port or usb3 port with an usb 2 cable.

From Galaxy Note II Samsung is providing the same 2 amp / 5v wall charger.

As I said in other thread there are motherboards that control the current in their usb3 ports, I got a latest Asus that can give 2amps (at least that what it says)

Yes but this case the phone coz not detecting a charger configuration will limit current to STD usb (0.5-0.9A). NO matter if the motherboard gives 2amp to each usb3 port the Note 3 will take only 0.9A, yo enable high power charge mode D0+ & D0- terminal must be in short.

Right now, a wall charger is a wall charger, in early 2014 the quickcharge 2 certified chargers will become available with a chip in the charger that communicates with the sd800 and allows it to charge very fast... Unfortunately, the only way to do this now is through a usb 3.0 outlet on a computer and quickcharge software

The note 3 wall charger is not the same as the note 2 charger. The look the same but the note 3's puts out a little more than 2 or at least it's what it says.

Car Charger

I currently have this car charger:
http://www.amazon.com/PNY-P-P-DC-UF...fkmr2&keywords=usb+2.0+car+charger+pny+2.1amp
When I first got it, I shorted the pins to force it to charge in AC mode. Now that I know it is capable of 2.1amps and our phone can accept similiar amperage, will I need a micro usb 3.0 cable for it to charge at 2.1amps? Or will my old galaxy s3 usb 2.0 cable be able to charge it at 2.1 amps as well?

No, a USB 2.0 cable will charge at the same current as a USB 3.0 cable (1800mA with the screen turned off, 1200mA with it on).
If the max is only 1.8amp then why is our charger rated at 2amp?

I believe there is also a loss of energy during the transfer of energy. The process is not 100% efficient.

Just wondering if this iPad charger would harm the Note 3 if used. It is 2.1 amps 10 watts. It seems more powerful than the note 3. Just wanted to get an expert opinion. Thanks

should be fine. I've been using my girl friends ipad charger in the living room for weeks. according to my phone it's pulling 1800 mah from it, same as the original charger.
It won't damage the phone. The charger has a 2.1a maximum output. The phone will pull as much as it needs to charge. If you hook up a ten amp charger, it won't hurt the phone. The phone's circuitry was designed to use whatever amperage limit it was made for. If the phone only pulls 1.8a at full usage and charging, then that's all it's going to use. It's better to have a power supply with plenty of extra amperage output, at the same voltage, than a smaller output at same voltage.
---------- Post added at 02:16 AM ---------- Previous post was at 02:12 AM ----------
Bigger amperage capacity is fine, but it needs to output the proper voltage for what you're using it on. For USB devices, it needs to be five volts DC. You could have a hundred amp power supply as long as its out put is 5vdc then you're fine. It doesn't shove 100 amps down the device's throat, if the device is using 5 amps then the power supply is only going to give it 5 amps.
Thanks for the helpful information! I really appreciate it.

(How to) charge your note 2 faster..

Hello friends today I will tell you how u can charge your note 2 very fast.. As we all know note 2 takes quite a long time to charge.. So I will tell u a simple trick to charge your note 2 faster than ever...
What u have to do just replace your Samsung's data cable to nokia's data cable.. now many people will ask me what's the difference in those data cable.. guyzz there is a big logic behind this..
In samsung's data cable there are just 4pins in pin.. But in nokia's or in lg's data cable there are 5pins in pin that's why they charge very fast.. Take a look on picture I have lg's data cable and it have 5pins in pin..
So guyzz just use nokia's or lg's data cable to charge your note 2 very fast.. believe me guyz it really works..
Hit thanks if I helped you...

It's true. I am using the cable from my old HTC phone and it takes 2-2.5 hours to charge the phone. It will take 5-6 hours if Samsung cable is used.
how does having 5 pins help in charging faster ?
ultimately on the other end there are only 4 pins right ?

Download "Galaxy Charging current" from the play store and you should get 1800 mA as your max and current if it's lower than that then you should replace your cable with a note 2 original cable just like what happened to me suddenly my note 2 needed 8 hours to charge now it's back to 2 hour \o/
My charger takes me a hour and a half to charge incredible I purchased it at handtec and honestly its amazing

i though best is using the galaxy current charging app to see the power current charging rate between 1600-1800 ?
does this LG 5 pin cable charging rate between 1600~1800mAh ?
Wont the charging tweaks fill in the hypothetical gap of both the pins in the cable? I mean im sure you can simply adjust the kernel to push out a higher current, or will the higher current be limited by the Samsung cable?
Actually yes! Just use persues kernel. You can reduce input voltage to as low as 0.3amp and as high as 2.1 amp. N2 Charges by default at 1.8amp.

As per my point of view its all misconceptions ......as long as ur phone is getting more than 1600 mamp current it will fast charge with any of the cables ...and if ur getting less than that it will charge slow ...so instead keep an eye on that ...as soon as it starts reducing check the cable .....

Charge this phone with USB 2.0 cable

I just found this out. The charger port on this phone is made up of 2 parts. One side will take the standard micro USB 2.0 cable. So if you are ever without the 3.0 you can use any regular cable to charge. If course it will be slower but at least you can charge it.
