Flip Wallet Cases Cover Camera - Verizon Galaxy Note 3 General

Just thought I'd throw out a heads-up warning about the 'flip wallet' cases (like the ones on the bottom row of the attached pic). I got one of these for my Note II back when it first came out and quickly realized a major flaw with the design. When you open the cover and fold it back out of the way, it covers the camera. To take a picture with these cases, you literally have to hold the flap half open, half closed with one hand while snapping a pic with the other! If you like the flip wallet style and want one, do yourself a favor and make sure that you get the "S View Cover" instead (like those on the tope row of the attached pic).

I mean, seriously...what were they thinking when they made these things. Obviously, they've never tried to use their own product. It just doesn't make sense why you'd make something that would cover up the camera lens.

Do the cases stay closed by magnets?

No its a flap, but it does stay closed.

I checked 3 different VZW stores and none had the S View flip cover. BUT on a whim, I stopped by my local AT&T store and I was able to buy one. There's no physical difference between the VZW & AT&T Note III so you can buy the cover from either. It's $65 at the AT&T store, but I wanted one so I went ahead and bought it.
The flip cover is pretty cool, you remove the battery cover and the flip cover snaps on in it's place, you need to keep the plastic S View window clean if you want to use your camera though....

What's the s window made out of? Sturdy plastic? Flimsy plastic or hopelessly optimistic glass?

It's definitely not glass, but I wouldn't exactly call it flimsy plastic. Probably somewhere between flimsy & sturdy plastic IMO....

My coworker has the one for the S4 and it feels like....a book binding. Maybe as durable as one but thinner.

I purchased the black s-view case for my white note 3 today at a Verizon store (25% off with work discount). Nice case and the black-white contrast is damn sexy.

I picked up a black S-View cover also and I'm really trying to like it. I love the way it makes the device seem so slim when the cover is closed, and the display through the window is pretty cool, but having to always flip it open is a little tedious. That and I'm not convinced that using the camera with it folded over won't degrade the images. I guess using the camera closed negates that issue, but it's a shame to not be able to use the whole screen when taking pictures.

Case-mate Barely There Aluminum does not cover top microphone

I got confirmation from Case-mate that this is the only case they make for our phone that will not cover the top microphone. I went ahead and ordered one using the Facebook discount. Go the their FB page and "like" them to get the code. If you are having issues PM and I will give you the code.

When you say the black barely there case, do you mean the normal plastic case (This one), or do you mean the AT&T specific brushed aluminum one in black (This one) the OP referred to? I'd like to know, even though Case-Mate might say otherwise, if all the ports, buttons, etc. are accessible in the normal plastic one.
Thanks

case seems fairly sturdy. the Incipio feather on my wifes atrix cracked on one corner (these are similar cases) but that was because of taking it on and off and its stiffer. On this case it seems easier to take off so I dont think it will crack as easily....unless maybe if you drop it alot or something.
Got my case!
I received my Barely There Aluminum today. Fit and finish is great as you can expect from a case that sells for $40! I really like the heft that this case adds to the phone. Without a case, I felt that the S2 was too thin and light. The feel of the plastic bumper is very nice. It feels satiny and "soft". To me, the plastic actually looks like powder coated metal. The aluminum back and chrome trim really makes this case look very classy. The camera opening has a little raised edge around it so when sitting on its back, the lens is protected. There is also a very small raised edge around the screen which will help protect the screen when placed faced down on a table, though dont expect major protection if the phone is dropped faced down and dragged across the floor. I only have 2 concerns: one is that the plastic on the sides does feel slick to the touch and two, the power button is a little hard to press. You really need to use the tip of your finger in order to press power.
This case may not be for everyone since it does leave the top and bottom exposed, but that is to be expected from a "barely there" case. Overall I am very pleased! So pleased in fact that I am thinking about getting the Case-Mate Pop or Tough for times when I need extra protection for the phone.
Umm...pictures?

Do you have any pictures?
Agreed. Pics would be fantastic, especially from a few angles. The ones on the Case-Mate website don't give enough for me to make a decision. Additionally, what parts are plastic? I figured an aluminum case would be.. well.. metal. Is only the back panel metal and the rest is plastic? If so I just don't think I can make myself spend $35-40 on it. :|
Another point of concern for me is that on their website, even though they say US AT&T version of the SGSII (which is the SGH-777 we all have) the pictures are of a GT-i9100. Am I correct in assuming that they're just posting a picture for a different phone but actually make a case for ours?
Question: Do the barely there cases.scratch up the sides? I had a similar case when I owned an iPhone and it scratched the sides where it clipped on to the phone.

Certainly not the only case that doesn't cover the top microphones, someone didn't use the SEARCH button... just thought I'd clear that up so people don't think there's only one case on the market that fits our phone, however hideous or GPS-blocking it may be.

I ordered one after much debate because my Note is too worthy to be buried in my purse. I'm waiting on a full body skin from decalgirl or skinit for the times it will be carried in my hand only. I have a cheap TPU case from ebay but I'm not happy with it.
I don't plan on having it in this case the whole time, "he" will have different outfits depending on what I have to do and where I have to go. This will be when I don't want to carry my purse around but need the essentials.
Residue on Glass from Zenus Case
Hi,
I have the same type of case, but the blue/tan version. I find that the case appears to leave a residue on the glass of my Note. I noticed this as soon as I started to use the case, but I assumed that it was due to a leftover from manufacturing and it would go away. It hasn't. I have even tried to clean the inside of the case that faces the glass and I still get a residue. I clean the glass with an eyeglass lens cleaner.
Has anyone else had this issue? If so, have you been able to correct it?
I have the zenus folio in all black, it's basically the same case only all black. I haven't had any trouble with anything transferring to the screen.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using Tapatalk 2
I am starting to think that the residue may be skin oils that transfer to the case because of the way I hold the the case. I flip the cover around the backanx hold it thag way. I know, TMI

No cases fit properly

I've noticed something that is bothering me about my S4. Absolutely no cases fit my device properly. It seems all the cases I have, the left side of the case doesn't fit properly. When I snap a case on, the left side of the case sits noticeably farther away from the screen than the right. My diztronic case, the left side practically falls off the phone. Is my phone warped? Has anyone else noticed this? This is common across all cases for me.

I think you may have a defective unit that was missed during quality control. I have used and reviewed the diztronic case and had no problems with fitting whatsoever. I have also had no other problems with slim snap on cases as well.
I suggest bringing it into Verizon and seeing if they can swap it out for you... if they deny that there is a problem with the phone, bring in your case and plop it onto another one if you can to show them the fitting difference.

Yea I've had three different cases. First was a designer case that fit fairly snugly, the second was the commuter otterbox which was nearly perfect except the rubber rim guard didn't fully cover the glastr screen protector from Spigen. So I purchased the infinity white slim Armor from Spigen and this case currently fits absolutely perfect. I would definitely suggest taking the phone in for a swap. Think of it as an excuse to drop back down to MDK if you're one of us who accidentally took ME7....

That would be due to the metal construction of the case. It's not insulated to keep from interfering with the radio's.

Not really, it needs to be part of the case design. Whoever came up with this case should take it back its not acceptable to sell something that is all about bling and no signal.

I don't think so. You can however buy replacement backplates to convert the slim armor view into a slim armor but I don't think there is an alternative option. I would send them a message and ask if they do plan to offer it at some point.

Scratches on S-View cover window?

Bought a black S-view cover at AT&T. Peeled off the protective stickers on the front and back of the clear window. Found a rather large scratch on the upper surface of the window. Exchanged it for another and there is a scratch in the exact same place. It's the type of scratch that is only visible from certain angles so it doesn't impede the S-view functionality at all, it's just annoying me that it's there. The rest of the case is mint and I find the quality of it to be otherwise outstanding.
Anyone else having this issue?

Agreed, but since it was the same on both I was wondering if it was more than just coincidence. Maybe the manufacturing process causes it on all S-view covers?

I'm now fairly convinced that this was no coincidence. The scuff (which is more accurate of a descritpion than a scratch) was identical in shape and position on both of the S-view covers I received. Scyke decribed the position similarly. Viewed from the front the scuff starts at about 1 o'clock and extends down towards the right on a diagonal about an inch. This has to be a manufacturing flaw. They should have made the window out of a piece of thin tempered glass like a screen protector.
I'm going to replace my S-view cover with the flip wallet, if anyone ever gets it in stock.
Well that same imperfection is on my black s-view case, and it has actually put a scratch of the same size on the glass on my phone. It is very annoying and I wonder if anything can be done about it.

I doubt that a plastic screen protector would have kept that hard little plastic imperfection from digging into my screen. Maybe I would have noticed it earlier, but that is about it. The glass is many times harder to scratch than a screen protector it.

Thanks, I just received the Bear Motion one and as you stated, it fits great. The only thing I don't like about it is the Power button. Takes a bit of force to register a press. But all in all, I like it... My main concern for a case is just to protect the chrome plastic on the sides, and these bumpers do that. The back covers can be replaced so, bumpers are the way to go for the note 3. Especially when case manufacturers probably won't invest in molding a new case just for people who have the wireless cover.
Thanks for the links!
Yeah, I've tried the SUPCASE and no luck, emailed UAG and SPIEGEN. UAG said NO and haven't heard back from spiegen.
Returning the wireless back tomorrow. I'm just straight disappointed.
I think our best hope is to turn a good tpu into a bumper case. Or maybe email diztronics and tell 'em we're willing to pay $20-25 for a good tpu because the price will be obviously higher for a small run and that we're willing to pay the overhead.

From S4 experience, SGP neo hybrid works with little bulge. Slim armor I don't think it would work. UAG needs messy DIY to trim out plastic part. Most flexible TPU cases works fine example TUDIA melody.

Anybody have the black tpu from diztronics by chance? I have the clear and I know it will be tougher to cut than black. I might order two or 3 when I get some extra cash and see if I can make a functional bumper but still looks aesthetically pleasing.

If you're going to order that many, just try out the bumper cases linked in the 3rd post. I purchased the Bear Motion and it fits perfect.
Actually, I have a cruzerlite bugdroid circuit, that though tight, fits. It's just that it is a bit too slippery, and not as grippy as the bare OEM charge back for my taste. So I'm sticking to the Poetic bumper for now.

I wonder if Samsung is going to release a protective case that fits the wireless charge back. I am sure that would be the best option. Their protective case for the note2 is best tpu for protection. The tactile feedback on the buttons were bar none and the flat lip around the screen made touching, swiping and palm swiping very easy. the tpu protected very well against a few drops. The only thing was a slight negative was the hard back. Was slippery using on desks, but other than that it was perfect. I use bumper blisters on my cases anyways so the hard backing was a non issue and the hard backing is preferable for my line of work. I hope Samsung's note3 cases are just like the note2.

I put an insert in my Note 3 a few days ago and it did cause a bulge, it looked like only a bumper would fit.
This morning I took the plastic off the back of the insert and trimmed the plastic under the coil as close to the copper as I could, including cutting off the double-sided tape that was there to hold it in place against the battery. I used a stop of regular clear tape to hold it while I put the cover back on. Now it is so flat you wouldn't know there's anything extra there. It would absolutely fit in any case made.
Since I prefer the bumper and got one for under $5 with shipping I'll stick with that.

Way cheaper than the official back and it works with most cases. I have the insert with a mime glass screen protector and the UAG case fits perfect. and the insert works just as well as the official back and yes i know it works the same cause i had the back and took it back when the insert came in

Thanks but is there any bulge? having owned 4 Galaxy S4's I know the Yijieneng receivers were the best fit cause the chips were designed to fit in the "notch" for the Microsd. I don't see any notch where the chips would go in the Note 3, so I'm thinking all other inserts will have a slight bulge...
I'm waiting for the S-View Cover w/ wireless charging to be released. I had the Spigen SlimArmor View for the S4 and loved that case, worked perfectly with the yijieneng insert with no bulge.
