[Q] GS4/Cyanogen10.1.3 - Shadow on Homescreen Wallpaper - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone!
I hope I have posted this thread in the right section. If not, please let me know and I will try to amend this next time!
I own a Galaxy S4 (GT-I9505) running CyanogenMod 10.1.3 Stable.
My question is:
How To: Disable the shadowing that occurs on the top and bottom of the homescreen? (check attachment). I have experimented with the 'Wallpaper Quick Render' feature that does disable it. However that makes app switching have a 'fly in, fly out' effect which I find quite irritating and almost dizzying.
Is there a way to disable the shadowing perhaps with a quick change of the .xml's in the depths of the phone? Or maybe with a small background app that isn't a separate launcher?
Thanks heaps for your knowledge and time
Victor.

[Q] Has anyone developed a user manual?

Hi All,
First off, I LOVE themer! I've been using Apex Launcher for some time on my HTC OneX (rooted, ARHD 31.3 ROM) and I've often gazed with longing at the home screens that some people have designed using UCCW, knowing that I'll necer have the time (or the artistic flair) to design my own. Now I can!
But there seems to be SO many customization options on Themer, and I'm a little overwhelmed. For instance, I'm using a theme with an RSS feed as a central tile, but I'd love to be able to change that to a 'favourite apps' tile. I'm sure the option is there, but I can't work it out. So, has anyone developed/is working on/knows of a Themer user guide?
I work on a cruise ship and internet access is slow and expensive (£10 for 167 minutes!) so I really don't have time to surf around looking for answers to design questions.
SO, does such a guide exist? If so, please point me in the right direction. If not, is anyone up to the challenge?:fingers-crossed::fingers-crossed:
The video is kind of like a user guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2474039

Thanks miles_muso for your kind words! Yes the video vhngu930 provided is a good one, but for your problem I can help here. See the thing is that you'd first have to delete that RSS icon and then hold down on the homescreen > Themer Actions > Favorite Apps. Now you'll have a massive heart (we're working on adding icon packs soon), which you'll be able to edit. If you hold down on the icon > edit > tap the icon, you'll be able to replace it with an icon image. You can maybe try here for icon images which may help, they by Jeppe Foldager and the small whites and darks should help for now: https://www.copy.com/s/DxsaXLatvBGf/Share/Icons
Hope this helps!

[Q] Hiding sidebar placeholder icons

Hi folks... I'm hoping someone can give me a quick answer to my silly question.
On my Transformer Prime (stock, latest OS), a launcher update wiped out some of my display settings, and in getting it set back up again, one thing is stumping me.
I used to have it so that on the slide-out side bar (show/hide via down-swipe) had only the icons I added, and the placeholder spots were empty/transparent.
Now those placeholder spots show a "+" icon... and I can't remember how to clear those, nor can I remember what that side bar is actually called, so I'm having no luck searching for my answer. The downside of turning 40.
Help is appreciated.

[Q] Unable to place shortcuts in Themer dock

Hello, newb here to XDA, Themer, and Android in general. Hopefully someone will be so kind as to be able to help with my issue. I've searched the forums to no avail.
So I'm trying to build a theme within Themer and, for the most part, all is going well. But I just cannot figure out how to get the dock to accept icons/shortcuts/Themer actions so I can put the phone, internet, app drawer, sms, and camera icons there. 'Show Dock' is checked in the Advanced Settings, but I'm unable to actually get anything to stick in the dock area... any icons dragged to that area just bounce out. I attached a screen shot illustrating the problem.
Am I missing something obvious? Or maybe the Themer Beta app hasn't had this functionality implemented yet? I've seen working docks in Themer themes ('Twilight' for example), but maybe those designers used other tools to build the dock and then imported it into Themer?
I'm using a Moto G with Android 4.4.2 and Themer 1.47. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi defektiv1, welcome to the community.
How did you create this theme? Was it created from an earlier theme? If so, which one? There might be a widget blocking the apps.
If you use the Twilight theme, then remove the icons, are you then able to insert your own?
As long as the "Show Dock" option is enabled, a dock should be present and allow you to place icons within it.

I believe it was the 'Rainy Day' theme I started with as a base. I think there were only two widgets in that one and I deleted them both, and then turned on 'Show Dock' in the settings as that particular theme doesn't use one.
Experimenting with the 'Twilight' theme, I tried moving the icons off the dock into the main area and then back to the dock. The icons for some reason ended up smaller than they were in the default setup, and also aligned a bit higher, but they did still function as they should, staying in the dock area while swiping through the pages. Attached an image showing the smaller icons. I also tried replacing the icons that came with the theme with a random app from the app drawer, and it worked fine, except again the odd sizing and alignment issue.
The dock area is definitely there in my theme; when the 'Show Dock' option is unchecked, that area is just part of the normal desktop area of each page, and moving things there is no problem, but of course things don't stay there when moving between pages. When 'Show Dock' is enabled, it won't allow me to drop anything there... any icons dragged there from any of the main screen areas just automatically bounce back to where they were before the attempted move.
Went ahead and attached a copy of the zip in case it might be helpful.
Thanks a lot for the help, this could be really fun if I can just get this issue sorted.

More experimenting: When I first started building this theme, I had set the desktop grid size to 8x16 on the recommendation of the article "How to correctly lay out and anchor your themes" on the themerapp.com site. Thinking that might be related to this issue, I tried setting the grid to 5x8, what I assume is the default for my phone, and now the dock area is working as it should. So it seems changing the grid size has something to do with this issue. The smaller size and higher positioning of icons only happens when initially dragging them onto the dock from the main screen area. Once I selected a new Themer action to put on a home screen, the icons on the dock correctly re-sized and re-positioned automatically. Attached an image sequence to illustrate. Hope this helps find the bugs so I can use other grid sizes with the dock.
thank you: Good:

Once I passed your errors onto the developers, they told me that they were aware of both issues and that a fix would arrive soon. The latest update (now 1.49) should have been the update to fix these problems If you run into any other bugs, please let us know!

OK, just tried with the update and the dock is working now with an 8x16 grid. Cool, thanks!

[Q&A] Icon default style

Hi there,
i have recently started modding, so ye, i am a bit of nub in development in android.
What i please you to answer me is: How do i set the default icon behavior like when i install a new app, the app-icon will have a default style like it is completely round or completetly square? Also i would like to know how to set it, that the default icon will be stretched into the default frame(square/round). I guess you know what i mean.
Thanks in advance for any answer!
Edit: i got it - can be closed.

[Q] Is it possible to make a widget from an action in settings?

Hi! I just made the jump from jailbroken ios to android (Samsung s7, not yet rooted) so forgive me if my question appears naive! I'd appreciate any pointers you could give me. Here goes:
Is it possible to make a widget that can directly toggle on and off a default toggle in settings?
For example, in [settings->accessibility] there is a toggle to switch Mono Audio on and off. Is it possible to create a widget specifically to switch this action on and off, that I could use much like a torch/wifi/data toggle widget on the homescreen?
I see an old XDA thread hinting at the existence of a Mono Audio Widget. That sounds like exactly what I want!! But I can't find it.. any ideas??
Thanks in advance!
Slightly disappointed to get no response.. is this not possible or just not interesting? Or did I post in in the wrong place?

damn..
I used to know about something regarding this and sadly I forgotten.
In cyanogenmod roms,u can simply edit tiles and layout.
It helps u to add or remove toggles.
But in a non-rooted s7,I'm afraid u cant do that(I guess).
Btw,
in last two months, I found xda Q/A section is dead in a way.
Search box and xda assist seems a little more helpul.
