Camera indoors sucks!!! - G2 General

Compared to my S4 I gave up it's horrible inside. All the images are fuzzy. Makes it so hard to take pics of kids. Trying to get it to focus takes so long and always comes out fuzzy. Enough so, I'll leave this device for the next best thing.

I've noticed the same thing. Now I need to decide whether to keep it or return it inside the 14 day window. Ugh. I like everything about the phone, except the camera, but being a photography hobbyist, it's fairly important.
Here's a photo from a concert Sunday night. The worst quality I've seen in years.

It's the camera app, not the phone. I installed the Super Camera and it's great. The gallery is worse, but you can still use the stock gallery and the other camera app. Hope that helps.

This is true. A software update is needed to fix some of the photo and video quality issues.

The problem is with the too agressive denoise algorithm LG is using. This is why they came out blurry. We do need a dev to off it until Lg offers a better algorithm...Also,NEVER use night mode, its useless...use inteligent auto either its day or night...in pretty much all photos except HDR.

Great!! we all waiting for you now to do it,im kinda exited to try lol

Can people confirm though that using a third party camera app does indeed provide way better quality?
If it's in the camera firmware/drivers from LG then third party apps wouldn't really matter...

I didnt saw a better quality with any so far....especialy in low light shots that we have the bigger problem.

[Q] Camera App

I don't know if this belongs here..
But, I was wondering if anyone could possibly tweak the camera apk to have a better auto balance for color. Or if it was possible to flash a different camera apk from a different HTC device that maybe has better white balance.
My pictures like to be orange indoors. Only sometimes does it go to florescent, not a huge deal as I can easily change it for use,a,different camera app (if any1 could suggest one, over than vingette). But I didn't know how hard it would be to tweak the stock one
Hey platinumrims I have the same orange hue picture problem inside. I've been using "CameraZOOM FX" a lot lately with out any problems.
Camera zoom is ok. Do you have an Orange circle in the middle of your screen? Cuz I do ¦~\

Edit: weird cuz its only there sometimes. I knew I hadn't seen it before. Also if you adjust saturation a tad on the stock app the pictures come out the right color. ill have to do more testing I guess. I just feel like auto should work properly. On its own.
Try this app on your phone and see if it works better http://goo.gl/j1xUu I have used this MIUI camera app I found on xda in another forum which I don't remember where and its awesome. This app will work on just about any android based phone. Hope this helps
Cool thx. Miui = my favorite.
My complaint is that the stock camera is a bit grainy. Maybe the jpeg compression is too high. I hope we get a way to change that soon. I wouldn't mind higher quality pictures with less compression.

Is there a white balance setting, I couldn't find it.
Personally, I like Vignette the best by far of any camera app I have tried.

Miui is my favorite Rom. i like it more than sense.
And Yea that camera app doesn't work right for me. Flash doesn't work and the noise can't be silenced... I turned the saturation down one notch on the stock one and the colors look much better for the most part

[Q] Why is my friend's camera better?

My friend has the same phone as me, the Galaxy S2. His phone and mine are both running 2.3.4 gingerbread and are on T-Mobile. He bought his a few months after I bought mine and the camera is much better than mine, they both are on the exact same settings and his pictures are much clearer. when comparing pictures of the same thing he can zoom in on pictues he has already took with unbelieveable quality while mine blurs when zoomed in. Does anyone know why this is? My picures aren't bad quality but his are immense. Thanks in advance, Harry.
Edit: We were both on the exact same settings and compared photos almost identical to eachother, taken specifically for comparing. I'm currently on Lite'ning rom v6.1 but even before i rooted his camera was better.
Are you sure you have same camera drivers? I think that might be the case. I'm not an expert, but by reading people problems with camera I guess that might be the problem that you are having.
Check the settings between the 2. Maybe you have it set to macro focus, like my cousin did.

We have taken a lot of photos making sure they are fair and his phone is always MUCH better when we zoom in on the pictures.
i have similar problems. my photo, taken outside, is quite blurry and smudgy. this is one of the example.
i'm using the international version.
i havent root or change my rom.
my lens are clear, they have no fingerprint on it.

App Request: New HQ Jelly Bean Camera

Now that the new Jelly Bean OTA update is out, I was hoping someone could update the new camera app to include 0 compression on jpegs and 1080p video @ 40mbps. Basically everything that is included in this version (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1533238). The stock compression on the ICS camera is incredibly disappointing when you actually blow up a picture to full resolution.
I know there is also a JB 4.2 camera app floating around (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1966190&highlight=camera) but image and video quality is more important to me than the (admittedly cool) photosphere.

I am not certain which version that is ported from. I installed the zip, and unfortunately, I didn't notice a difference. :/ So, I restored our stock camera (and Odex file).
I am getting my best results from the app ProCapture. I would love an awesome Sense camera, but I am having trouble finding anything concrete.
I also mentioned here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=35478426&postcount=96
I might give the ProCapture app a try. Just wish it was free to try at full quality. I like the Sense camera app but I am really disappointed in picture quality. All of my pictures get a weird watercolor like affect due to compression when I look at them full size. I might also see if I can get the JB 4.2 camera working. Let me know if you come across anything that works well.

[Q] Stock Samsung camera for cyanogenmod?

Is there a way I can get the stock Samsung jelly bean camera app on cyanogenmod? I find it better quality than the focal camera.
Also, no matter what cyanogenmod based ROM I use, it crashes when I try to use the camera through third party camera apps like snapchat. Sometimes it will crash and when reboots, the battery ends up at around 10%
Bump. Does anyone know if this can be done?
The stock Samsung camera app won't work on AOSP-based roms, so there's answer #1.
Regarding your other problem, I've never heard of any trouble with 3rd party camera apps, 4.2.2 and lower. If you're running 4.3 roms, then it's likely the software - although I've still not read of any problems from other users.
Personally I've stayed on 4.2.2 and use the FastBurst camera app and it works perfectly.

As far as I know, yes. You'd have to modify the framework in order for the Sammy camera to work on AOSP, but I haven't come across any guide on how to do so, or seen a mod. There was a 9100 rom back in the old days that was a hybrid (Chameleon), but it never quite ported properly, if I remember correctly.

The only one I use is Fast Burst. The tradeoff is occasionally the picture quality isn't exactly perfect, but I've taken some really great looking pictures with it and the burst feature is the best I've seen on any camera app.
I would love to see someone be able to port the Samsung camera to CM11. It's a hundred times better than that lame photosphere camera. I'm honestly contimplating switching back to Bonsai to get my sammy apps back. S-Pen included

Holly cow this thing is fast! THX for the tip.
The only beef I have with it, is that I couldn't get it to save my pics to the SD card.
I guess because the internal memory is faster. The stock Samsung camera does the same with burst shots.
Although if someone would have a workaround to get the pics on the SD card, that would be appreciated

Best Gcam to use?

Coming from a V20, I'm missing the shots I was able to pull from it using the Gcam port. I've tried a few different ones and found one that is decent. Just was seeing if anyone else has a good recommendation or if there is any future work going to be done for this model.
Thanks

For anyone who is interested, this file seems to work best. I tried the two suggested apks from the other post and there are several parts that do not work. The photos apply a heavy red tone to skin and night sight doesn't work either.
On the APK above though everything works. Only issue I have found is the screen doesn't show a preview when using night sight if the lighting is low. Once you take the pic though the results show in the gallery.
For anyone who tinkers, you can adjust enough settings to get what you want out of the app as well. So if you're looking for a good Gcam, this is the one I suggest so far.
