S View Cover - Galaxy Note 3 Accessories

I got my S View Cover today for my Note 3. It's really awesome and gives a premium feel. Can't we expand the notification from s view window? And, can't we wake up s view window with multi tap?

No and no.

I got the S view cover today too.
I really like the material. Much better than the stock cover, as it feels like leather.
I like the extra protection you get around the sides and reduced chance of losing the power button when it's in your pocket.
I also like how you can do a quick note, take a photo and control music through the window.
But, I've taken it off and gone back to the stock back cover after about 6 hours of use.
A few things annoyed me too much.
1. With the cover closed, you can't see the notification LED. So, I end up opening the cover every now and then to check if there are any notifications. They should have put a cut out for the LED.
2. With the cover closed, if you say "Hi galaxy" to activate SVoice, it displays a message saying you have to open the sview cover. Kind of defeats the purpose of voice activation. I never used s voice on my Note 1 or 2, but the voice activation on the Note 3 is really good for setting reminders and calendar events quickly as you think of them. I've found myself driving, or typing and I think of something and I can add a reminder or event without picking up my phone. Can't do this with the sview cover attached
3. The cover is great when you're not using the phone, but gets in the way when you are holding the phone and using it. I tried folding the cover all the way back, but it's still not comfortable as the edges are Thin and hard.
Plus, trying to use the camera with the cover on is incredibly fiddly. You can't get a good grip on the side of the phone the the volume buttons are on. If you fold the cover back so you can hold that side of the phone securely, you have to be careful not to push the cover too far out it will get in the photo.
Maybe I'll try it again next week, but those 3 issues above are things that would annoy me frequently.

If you press the power button to turn the screen on, you will see the notifications. But, if your phone is on the desk or something, you can't just looks it and know if you have notifications as the LED is covered.
You can take a photo with the cover closed, but it's smaller than the photo you can take with the cover open and you can't adjust any camera settings, so only really something you would use for a quick shot. Handy, but not the mode you would use if you have the time to open the cover and take a better photo.
I bought mine from the Samsung shop in Thailand. The other mobile shops in the mall have copy covers, but they don't activate the sview display.

The actual picture is smaller if you take it with the cover on? Or do you bean the display is smaller

Smaller resolution. It's not tiny, but not as large an image as you can take with the cover open.
[edit] I just checked, it's 3096x3096 when taking a photo with the cover closed [/edit]

I got it from Samsung stores here in India.

Came across this cover, coming soon
http://www.seidioonline.com/samsung-galaxy-note-3-ledger-flip-view-dark-gray-p/csf2ssgt3k-dg.htm
Have emailed them to confirm it is fully Sview compliant and about LED cutout since photo does not show it.
Anyone used Seidio covers before? quality/experience?

Case with magnets bad?

So I bought a case from eBay that came from Hong Kong. It arrived to today. Its a flip case that closes with a magnet but I did not know that before I bought it. Is the magnet bad for the screen or S Pen?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
It seems if the magnet is strong it could cause issues. Although the Seidio case has a magnet on the back that does not affect the screen. I think it depends on location and strength of the magnet.
Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk 2
The magnet is on the right side in the middle of the case (when its flipped closed) on top of the screen. I'll take a pic of it n put it here later when I get home. How do I know if its too strong? I really like the case but I don't want the magnet to mess up the screen, S Pen or anything else in the phone
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
the strength of magnets doesn't affect the screens as much as the length of exposure. Magnets will cause a sort of dead spot for the s pen though. When you see a demo, go to a paint program and try to shade the whole screen in and you will see a circle the size of the offending magnet that won't allow itself to be colored in.
I contacted wacom, who I believe make the s pen tech and they said though magnets will cause things to not work, it won't cause any long term damage

Oh okay. So I can keep it on n it will cause a little bit of an issue with the screen but eventually go away? I was thinking of throwing the case away but idk yet
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
Well here's a pic of it. Upon further inspection the magnet seems to be next to the screen, not on top of it like I originally thought. Is there still a chance it could mess up the S Pen tho?

The s-pen uses magnetism as a source of power. Introducing a magnet to the field simply disrupts the field and keeps the phone and the s-pen from resonating. Introducing a magnet will not harm the accuracy of the device. Removal of the magnet should immediately cease any inaccuracies with the s-pen. Long story short, use with confidence sir!

Common issue on the Galaxy Note 10.1 (which is the supersized version of Note II) forum with cases with magnet affecting the Wacom pen.
I had to return my case for this very reason. There was a large round dead spot where the magnet was, moved the magnet away and the spot was fine. In addition, the note 2 manual states to not use cases with magnets, so back mine went.

Im still using tat type of magnet cover..
My cast that I got from Best Buy, the one that is identical to the Surface case, affects the S pen. That small magnet affects the drawing area even though its small and on the back side. Hopefully when my Active case gets here it wont have the same issue since there is the silicon case in between.

I ordered a Smoke one on Sunday and it arrived today. It is my first case ever for a phone so I can't comment too much. It seems to fit the well and has a pleasant touch feeling. It is a little more glossy than I expected. There is a slight lip around the front that should protect the screen a little from drops. All of the buttons, ports, microphones, and speaker have cutouts as described so it doesn't impede with the phone usage.

Does it look like the attached? The images on the site are different from the Sprint and AT&T versions, though when I called Cruzerlite, they said that the cases for AT&T are the translucent material as well. Image is of the Sprint version. I'll buy one anyway, as I am in meetings a lot and would like visibility of the notification light - hoping that I might actually catch the 1 in 30 second light bleep. Thx!

Yes basically. The hole around the camera and flash is smaller on the actual case, fitting it properly. The other big difference is that the rubber of the android guy is less translucent than the picture shows. You can't see the reflective finish through the android. You can however, see the AT&T logo through it.. You can see the finish through the non-android rubber. The cutouts for the buttons and ports are larger on the actual case. The buttons are recessed behind the case, not sticking out like in the picture. They still are easy to press but it will prevent accidental pushes in your pocket. Also its hard to see in that photo, but the left and right sides are ribbed and colored like the android.
I think that picture is a photoshop.

I appreciate the feedback and detail, Patsfan (go Pats - lived up there '76-'80)! The Diztronic case I have is great, though thought I'd pick up one of these to try out and have for a backup. The images for the AT&T version all look to be solid colors without any translucency. The person on the phone said they were, but she wasn't convincing.
Yes go Pats! I will try to take a picture but the only other camera I have is a nexus one. I also have a Diztronic case on order from Amazon.. Just waiting for it to ship.

got my Diztronic saturday, its one of the nicest cases I've ever had, for any phone including my old iPhones.
I got the clear cruzerlite to try, after having gone caseless for a while and also trying one of the inexpensive HR wireless hard cases for a few weeks. I like it.
I want to add as little bulk as possible so I like the size of the cruzerlite. Especially compared to the HR wireless's huge lip around the front. I don't use a screen protector but the front lip wraps around so little that I don't think it would interfere with one. The texture of the android guy and the sides is nice.
I originally wrote that the fit wasn't great. It seemed to be offset to one side. I have since pulled the case of and put it back on starting with the other side, and it is nearly perfect now. The only real downside about the appearance, to me, is the way the material sticks to the glass back in spots (like a static window cling). But that's really minimal.
They're buy 2 get 1 free at Amazon but I only got the one (and bought some other stuff with it so shipping was free).
Bought the Black and Green one off of Amazon with Prime Shipping. That and my phone arrive Thursday.

I bought this after using the Diztronic for a month. Made the phone feel more like the svelte hardware it should be, rather than a block. Protection does not deem to have suffered either.

Tired of LG G2 shiny back cover?

I buffed my shine off with fine steel wool (grade 00) , then buffed it over a final time with ultra fine steel wool (grade 0000). It's available at any Home Depot. It leaves you with a slick matte finish, no gloss, no excessive fingerprints.
I removed my back cover to do this, but its not necessary. It's actually quite easy to remove, almost like a removable back cover. I just pushed my fingernail in and got a gap, then proceeded around the edges popping each clip as I went... Alternatively you could just put tape on your camera lense to avoid scratching it.

Sorry, I have my old GS3, so not great pics. I set it at 640x480 to avoid too large files. They do show its lighter, a charcoal color now vs. the original black and you can see its now matte and not shiney. A few small scratches at there, that I still need to rub out with the ultra fine steel wool.
Set 2 - new account here and it wont let me post more than once every 5 mins.
If I had thought about it, I would have done this with my S3 over a year ago... HATE THE SHINE...
The big take here, other than you can smack the shine off with steel wool, is that the back cover is easily removable, so I would assume 3rd party replacements with real soft touch back covers are a real possibility. I hate to have a case, but a new back cover with soft touch plastic ala Nexus 7 (either rubbery like '12 or soft like '13) would make this phone perfect... Whoot!
That looks pretty nice. It even removed Verizon's crap.

Yes, I shed a little tear for that... heheh . Too bad I cant steel wool the Verizon logo off the front without making it look like crap.
Looks great. only thing I am concerned for is the design under the gloss of the ATT version. I am pretty sure the rear panels differ between carrier. I just ordered the Spigen Slim Armor...if I don't like the case, I will give this a go.

Ok, I've been around Android for a long time. And the thing that makes this community great is it's ingenuity. From G1 to Note 3 if something doesn't work (right) we fix it. So it seems I read somewhere that the connections on the rear case are there with adhesive. I don't have a case original OEM. Can someone post some pics of the connections and investigate how they work

I agree - I'm tempted to get the real S-View cover just so I can pull the chip off it and put it in one of the nicer real leather flip cases out there. Also, do we know whether the screen on/off uses a magnet to sense whether the flip is closed, or just the proximity sensor?
Yeah would be good to get some of the nicer cases functioning like OEM

Hey Guys
I just bought a normal Samsung case, non S-view. It too has a small chip in it. I can pretty confidently confirm that something other than the proximity sensor turns the screen off, and when that small chip is removed, the screen does not turn off.
I think it is basically telling the phone that the cover is there, and what type of cover it is, so it knows whether to turn off completely or go into S-view mode, and what the power button action does.
I hope this has helped in some way.

Do you have a multimeter? if at all possible I would like to have readings with the Sview case open and closed while not on the phone. Just to see if there are some slight change in readings.
another thing to check would be the flip cover with the wake functions to see if the reading were different. anyone on here know of someone with flip cover?

I returned my s-view to T-Mobile today and got a Tech21. The s-view features were neat but the case would not stay closed causing my Note to wake. I also felt it offered little real protection if it dropped and the lid flopped open it would be like having no case @ all. (imagine it skidding down the driveway with the s-view opening and closing)

Just got my S view case today and I am really liking it. There is nothing keeping the flap down, but I think in a drop it will be decently protected.
Also I thought it would be much more bulkier than it is. Folded back you can hardly tell it's there, other than the edges cutting your fingers
I got mine yesterday and I noticed that I on the right edge (where the stitches are) I had to run my finger across it.
It help the cover stay closed.
I feel that the S-view case needs to have more viewing options. It is very limited to accessing the camera, action memo, and music player. I also don;t like that we can only view incoming calls and text. There should be more options for other apps or at least access notification panel.

I agree, it even displays less icons in the notification bar through the window. Almost a step back from that perspective.
