[Q] audio stuttering/glitching - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

i listen to music all the time on my rooted s4. every half an hour or so, a song will stutter and then resume as normal. the audio doesn't stop, it just glitches. this happens in rocketplayer and spotify, and usually when the screen is off, though there doesn't seem to be much of a correlation between the screen state and this issue (as i have seen in others' posts about similar issues).
i have already attempted:
- overclocking with setcpu
- increasing the buffer size in rocketplayer
- regularly closing background processes
any ideas would be much appreciated.

What ROM are you running? Have you tried to duplicate the glitch with a different music app?

stock, just rooted 4.2.2, kernel is 3.4.0
the glitch happens in any app that plays music, not just rocket player or spotify.

This happens to me too sometimes when I'm using PowerAmp and I think it has to do with the Governor... on my old phone things would occasionally skip until I switch to using lulzactive but unless you have a kernel capable of supporting different Governors then it's probably something you'll have to live with. Unfortunately I'm in the same boat since I'm on ME7.

Music Quality - Community Rom V1.3

I'm on the Community Rom V1.3 (flashed v1.2 kernel) and am having problems with my music quality. Any time I run anything while listening to music (via Pandora or my music app) the quality is poor. The music "skips" or has a "staticy".
Is anyone else having this problem?

Are you using the voodoo sound app from the market? If you couple that with the galaxy s tuner app you can do quite a bit for quality & volume. I haven't had anything like what you're getting though but I'm on the otb1.4 kernel.

No, I'm not using the voodoo sound app. However, I don't believe that is what was causing the problem. I believe my problem was related to CWM 3.0... so I flashed back to stock, flashed CWM version 2.5... and flashed the community rom v1.3. I'm waiting for my phone to reboot before checking to see if the problem is still there.

You're not referring to a "popping" sound, are you? If you are, then it's a known issue on Voodoo Kernel Version 8.

It's a similar sound to what you may have experience when downloading a bad Napster file back in the day. Or when listening to a poor vinyl record that is scratched a bit. I'll report back either way once I've restored.
The problem is still there. I'm surprised nobody else is having this issue as I've searched everywhere to no avail.
Thank you for taking the time to help.
As said above it is a voodoo sound v8 problem. It is mostly in regards to touch input we think, so if you sony use your phone while listening it's fine.
Or you can find an older kernel that doesn't implement v8 and enjoy the flawless glory of un glitch-y voodoo sound.

Thank you, Huntredgo. Perhaps you have a good kernel recommendation that I can flash over Community v1.3?
I attempted to flash imnuts' stock kernel (via Odin) over community v1.3 and I received the "permasung" when trying to reboot. Still trying to find a kernel that will solve the issue.

If you don't know it -> small latency errors caused higher frequency crackles, larger latency errors caused lower frequency pops.

The problem persists. I changed my input to bfq and can still hear the popping sound. Especially when I'm touching the screen in any manner.
I also tried older kernels.
Any other suggestions?

[Q] Music Skipping

So I've been using this phone for a while and use it daily on my commute to work with the car dock to listen to music. I can't help but notice that the music seems to skip more than I think it should. It's a really small thing but it just has really started to annoy me.
I'm rooted but running stock rom and use Google music to play my music. From what I've experienced the device acts like the music service doesn't have a high enough priority when playing and some other running service interrupts it for just long enough to cause a skip. Anyone else experiencing this or have any ideas for a tweak that might fix this issue?
I use Google Music daily and haven't seen that problem yet, so it probably isn't an inherent problem.
Need more details, like are you using Bluetooth, using wifi, do you have any rogue apps that may be taxing your system?
Maybe do a speed test when you get a skip just to see if it may be a bandwidth problem.
I've noticed the google music app has a tendency to think a song is way shorter than it actually is and skips to the next too early. Really hard bug to get rid of once it starts.

Try clearing your music cache. It just didn't get the while song cached.

Maybe it skips cause data where you're at blows like my area?
Have you tried changing your proxy settings in ##data# ? Should help with the streaming.
I have no issues with data streaming, the problem occurs even after fully cached. As I said I believe the issue resides in some sort of priority issue. Is out possible too change the base priority of the app our make some other memory our system tweak that may give a better result?

[READ] Music "Skips"

Okay, so I'm a massive music player fan. Honestly. I jam to dubstep and metalcore (blessthefall, AILD, August Burns Red, Killswitch Engage, etc.) and I LOVE the quality of my music. BUT, recently, the last couple weeks or so, my music will randomly "skip" for a split second. What I mean is, it'll pause for a quarter second and then resume, even though it's not supposed to. Here's an example.
"You'll never stop until you get what you want,
You think you have control, you tried to take mine,
But I won't leave (0.25 second pause, then resume) until I get what I want,
Over and (0.25 second pause, then resume) over, bending and breaking!"
I don't know why it does this, because it hasn't before. I HAVE tweaked with the build.prop, but not with anything that should affect quality of music. Also, the screen is off, WiFi/Data/Sync, etc. so it isn't like, "user lag" interfering with it. I usually know the ins and outs of Android, but I'm stumped here. Any ideas mates?
ALSO, this isn't a massive problem, but it gets annoying. My songs are about 5 minutes in length or so.. And it happens probably about once every 2 or 3 songs. But still, it's annoying me mostly because I *don't* know what it is.
And one time it ruined my favorite bass drop. That's what set me off and made me make this post.

I believe both, but not sure. I don't think it happens when streaming video (YouTube, etc.) I think it's just local content. I do torrent, but it isn't the files.

Did you install any mods that could have changed your CPU settings? I'm thinking that your phones processor is going too slow when its screen is off and that's causing the stutters. Try reverting your build.prop to the stock one. Either that or there's something wrong with your SD card. Have you tried another card? What about background apps? Could be that you have too many running and that's causing the slow downs.

It's not the card because it does it on internal too. And hey, the screen off idea is smart! I might check into another performance mod if it works. I'll test it to see if it does it when it's on.

I'm assuming that you've tested it with other mp3s, right? So it can't be that the mp3s you're playing are corrupted?
Your best bet is to revert to stock build.prop (I think you can just pull one from a stock ROM and copy and paste it to the correct system folder using ES file explorer.) If that doesn't work, do a factory reset and re flash the stock KDZ (I'm assuming you're on LGs stock ROM)

I had a similar problem as well. My music play for like 30 second theb it totally skip to the next track. Turn out i installed the beat audio mod through pimp my rom and it messed up my music player. I try resetting the phone and that didnt work so i had to flash kdz back to ics then update to jb again. Or i could have done a cmw backup as well.

Had this problem on my Nexus 7, Xperia Ray, and L9. I figured it because the CPU governor is not increase clock enough. Try to switch to interactive / ondemand.

Have you tried increasing the "audio buffer size" in Poweramp? I had this issue with my L9 too, went to Poweramp>settings>audio>advanced settings>audio buffer size and selected "Large (+250ms)". This did the trick for me.
I am not sure about other music players, but I am sure most of them has something similar setting too.

Poweramp Issues on Kit Kat

Has anyone figured out why poweramp will freeze randomly when switching songs manually? I thought it might be related to Viper mod, but tried it without and still the same. All KitKat Roms i have tried do it. Any suggestions?
I have the same issue... ever since I installed cm11 nightly on my t-mobile galaxy s3, poweramp will lockup when I switch songs... I've updated my cm11 every night.
Alsom, sometimes the songs will play faster than normal. I don't know what to do.
Disable direct volume control. Worked for me.
Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
I have to have it disabled for Viper to work regardless so that isn't it for me. The other day it had no issues then the following day back to lock ups and the fast playing music.
I usually listen to music while riding my bike.. so this upsets me
If it means anything to happens to me on playerpro also.
This is very annoying for me also

I will say that when kit kat first released with Gummy and kitkang I never had the issue that I recall originally. It was later down the pipeline so to speak after new commits from CM. On a side note today had no issues at all till tonight. Than it did it for every song about 4 songs in a row, then I rebooted and it's been good again.

I don't remember the early gummy builds doing it either. Guess I'll reboot more often and see what happens

it's sooo annoying. i wonder what's causing it? has poweramp been updated at all since kitkat became common?
Once I think it had been updated but no avail.
Same issue here. Nothing changes no matter what I do. Did anyone post these bugs to PowerAmp?
Today I did not have any song freeze on me but literally every other song that I manually skipped to had the "chipmunk" play speed. Once again a reboot fixed that issue. I have not submitted any thing to poweramp myself yet.
I've disabled direct volume control and disabled all fade and gapless songs options on poweramp, don't get it as often.

It is actually a very very simple app and it makes the sound on your phone about 100 times better. As far as the music app itself...I couldn't help you there.

poweramp kitkat viper4android issue
i get fast forward chipmonks... i get stuck in pause, it will not play.... only way is to restart app.... and only way to do that is to go into app manager and stop it manually.... i tried everything to fix it... i reinstalled viper4android multiple times...
ONE THING FIXED IT FOR ME....
de-check swipe to change track in Look and Feel > Player UI : Gestures : UN-CHECK Song Change Gestures....
that did it for me... afterwards... I can change songs back forth all day and no problem.... I know the swipe is cool... but i can live without it...
the thing is if you enable lock screen in poweramp... the swipe still works while lock screen is on... who knows... all i know is that i no longer have problem going track to track now....

[Q] skipping sound when listening to music

hi. I've got an L9 recently, compared to many negative reviews I'm satisfied with it, but when I listen to music via earphones, music sometimes skips for less than a second, usually once or twice per song, then it goes on from where it stopped. I have tried it on stock and cm11 too. funny thing is I have no problem via speaker, not even when I play big games like GTASA. As I said it's not something I can't live with, I'm just curious if anyone else has this bug. I'm using Panasonic inear earphones btw, with no DSP manager etc enabled. I have also tried several players. thanks for any replies.

still nothing? I will try player pro tomorrow, it has cpu priority and very high buffer size settings, hopefully those will fix it. also when I greenified every app in its hibernation list the problem mostly disappeared.. maybe also should try performance governor when listening to music.
It's just so damn annoying that a mid-range phone with 1gb ram has this bug, I also read many people with Galaxy Nexus have problems like this, which has a very similar CPU.
