CM-10.2 Install Guide
Note: CM for Galaxy S4 Mini is provided with no warranty. You are installing this software at your own risk. You may be violating your warranty.
Download CM-10.2 and gapps-jb zips and put in /sdcard
Nightly: http://get.cm/?device=serranoltexx&type=nightly
Unofficial: cm-10.2-20140119-UNOFFICIAL-serranoltexx.zip
UPGRADE REQUIRED
gapps version 20130813
MD5SUM: 1f51b5cc6370c1f45dc951109b6ce6ed
Please verify the md5sum to be sure you got the right one.
Before you install CM-10.2: Preparation (First three are optional. If you want to start fresh, these can be skipped)
Install AppBak from Market, run it and save a list of all your apps.
Install SMS Backup and Restore from Market, run it and backup your SMS history.
Install Call Logs Backup and Restore from Market, run it and backup your call log history.
Boot into ClockworkMod recovery. Make a full backup. You will need this backup later if you decide to go back to your previous ROM and data.
WARNING: Many apps will Force Close crash if you restore data from a previous ROM.
Install
Use ClockworkMod Recovery.
Warning: Only use this recovery to flash CM-10.2. Otherwise, you risk bricking your phone!
Wipe data and cache.
Flash cm-10*.zip.
Flash gapps*.zip. You must flash gapps after every upgrade to CM10.2 since /system is formatted, wiping your previous add-ons.
Reboot phone.
After you setup your Google account, reinstall the three apps from Market in order to restore most of your apps, call log and SMS history.
Warning: Do not restore backup data of system apps!
If you restore a bad backup with cached settings in telephony.db in data/data/com.*.*.telephony it can break MMS.
It seems that restoring backups can also break Calendar sync.
Upgrades
Upgrades from previous versions of CM10.2 are the same process as install, except you do not need to wipe anything. Contrary to popular belief, you do not need to even wipe cache and dalvik-cache when upgrading between CM10.2 versions. You only need to wipe if you are doing a major upgrade, switching to a different ROM entirely, or attempting to fix bugs caused by bad backups or corrupt app data.

A few kernel changes yes, but not that many. For the device sources there's quite a lot of changes yes.

Aside from what it says in the instructions, from cm10.1.3, I can probably restore data only from Cwm right? Cheers!

The only app-data you can restore (as stated in the first post btw...) is the one from non-system apps. If you restore data of system apps, you will have really really weird errors.
What i do: I trust google concerning my app data. Just let it backup everything for you, and if you experience some weird errors in non-system-apps, just delete the data of the affected app.
I think titanium backup works too, just dont use it for system apps.

Well I meant user apps only, and I have done it plenty of times before. I understand that I may have to clear some system apps data. Titanium takes really long and I have a slow connection so Google backup isn't an option either. I'm gonna take my chances as always and I'll figure it out. Thanks

Unfortunately, not at this time. I'm using the adreno drivers from CM 10.1, which doesn't support OpenGL 3. I could use the newer drivers, but they are causing some graphical glitches on this device, so for now I stick to the old drivers.

Well the camera was working, until i tried turning hdr on. After that it says "couldn't connect to camera".
Edit: after reboot it works again.

screen calibration
Hi,
Thanks for the awesome rom!
Would it be possible to include the screen calibration settings again? The colours are very artificial and "in your face" in the standard settings. I really like the calibration feature.
Thanks

You can grab them from the regular S4 repo here: https://github.com/TheMuppets/proprietary_vendor_samsung/tree/cm-10.2/jf-common
They won't work without updated kernel drivers though.

The only thing left to do, is just refinements before you start working on CM10.2. Also, I really hope your code gets approved for official nightlies
Installing it now. Will post feedback and thank you arco for this.

By the way, did someone already make a discussion/bug reporting thread in the general section? It prevents spamming of the development section and also makes it easy to see if there are known issues that every has reported.
I would like to make such a thread, but it takes a bit of time to help everybody/update the op on a regular basis and it also will be a bit hard for me to do because I don't own the device.
So if someone is willing to give up his free time, feel free to start a discussion thread
Edit: see this thread for example: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2185109
Hey being using it for half hour now.
Everything works so far, minor things to note:
The quick toggle for brigtness does not always work.
Can't find the option of clear sound or somerhing on calls I remember having that.
Also how can I change the phone number display format? morelocale2 won't help, it shows all numbers like xxx-xxx-xxxx and it's very confusing in eastern europe.
new bug: changing language will crash settings.

We can post bugs.. The other thread is for questions and etc. The reason is because we want to keep this thread clean.
Ok, here is what I noticed.
The battery seems to be draining faster than stock OS, for some reasons.
Changing language crashes settings ( but changes the language )
I don't have the tool in "storage" to format the sd card.
After half day of usage noticed my phone keep unlocking in my pocket, I don't have any special unlock features enabled like home button or so.
After all since this is an alpha, the build is quite solid for me, everything else work fine so far.
Excelent , great work , like in Galaxy W !
One question : can we swap memory ?
There seems to be an updated gapps build 20130812. (There is a 20130813 for android 4.3)
Should we use that latest version instead?
Changelog:
Code:

This is quite off-topic but it has been mentioned several times before that dual-sim support has never been a feature available in stock android roms and therefore manufacturers have to code their own drivers and interface to utilise dual-sim features. Unfortunately, that means it's not openly available for use by others and therefore makes it very difficult to cook custom roms which support dual-sim.
You will probably have to wait for a highly skilled developer to come along, have the device, and be willing to spend time to port it. The previous developer who promised to try has not gotten back to the user's for a very long while after opening a thread asking for testers.
Thanks arco68 amazing work, look forward to the stable version

Everything works for me. Have not tested wifi, Bluetooth and usb tethering is good.
Only problem i have is few random restarts. Maybe twice a day. But the battery life, low ram usage and smooth performance is so excellent, it doesn't bother me.
All and all, very stable and functional for nightlies.
Minor bugs:
Back and menu button lights up every time you touch the screen, only supposed to light up when you touch then.
In the radio app, volume buttons doesn't work if phone sleeps.
Using 041113 cm nightly, allot may have changed since

This ROM and S4 Mini 3G.
I have strange proximity sensor behavior. It start to power off display every time not only in call mode. Reboot helps but after few hours things bad again. Very annoying. No noise in dmesg or logs ((
I'm not sure if this problem related to 3rd party dialers or not. Started to uninstall it all one after another with no help.
Every other thing works perfectly well.
@arco68
I'm using the release candidate 1.0. I experience one major bug, when the phone sleeps, automatically or power button induced, sometimes the screen does not want to wake up again, and the only way to get it going is to hold the power button to which the phone restarts.
The reason i say the screen is asleep, when radio or music is playing, it continues playing, screen just doesn't want to wake up. Its not always, maybe 4 times a day.

Sporadic Reboots on 10.2 Stable
I have a permanent issue of random rebooting since 10.1.3.1 including nightlies, aside from the heavy battery drain. Here's the log cat after the last reboot I've taken immediately. You can find it as attachment...
EDIT: Whatever, I upgraded to CM 11 nightly (Kit Kat 4.4.1). There hasn't been a sporadic reboot so far. Highly recommended.
CM 11 is available now for I9190

CyanogenMod is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android 4.4 (Kit Kat), which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.
Your warranty is now void.
I am not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards,
thermonuclear war, or you getting fired because the alarm app failed. Please
do some research if you have any concerns about features included in this ROM
before flashing it! YOU are choosing to make these modifications, and if
you point the finger at us for messing up your device, we will laugh at you.
CyanogenMod is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed. You will need to provide your own Google Applications package (gapps). CyanogenMod does still include various hardware-specific code, which is also slowly being open-sourced anyway.
All the source code for CyanogenMod is available in the CyanogenMod Github repo. And if you would like to contribute to CyanogenMod, please visit out Gerrit Code Review. Your changelog is whatever was merged into gerrit. Device-specific changes on my GitHub .
Instructions:
First time flashing CyanogenMod 11.0 your device, or coming from another ROM?
Download the zip(s).
Optional: adb backup
Fastboot oem unlock > fastboot flash recovery recovery.img.
Perform a NANDroid backup of your current ROM.
Wipe data & cache partitions of your device (required when coming from stock!).
Flash CyanogenMod.
Optional: Install the Google Apps addon package.

We ask all the regular contributors here to please answer the "xxx is broken" or "yyy force closes" statements without an attached logcat with something like "LOGCAT or it didn't happen"
Feel free to be creative but DO NOT respond with wipe cache/clear data or any other attempted solution before the reporting user has taken the trouble to actually try to help solve the problem (e.g. by attaching a logcat, detailed steps to reproduce etc.).
We need to force more discipline in how issues are reported which will help us all find and squash bugs that may exist.
Just clearing data etc. may in fact cause us to never find the bug that caused the issue and just makes for lazy users.
The CyanogenMod team would like to thank everyone involved in helping with testing, coding, debugging & documenting! Enjoy!
Thanks to romracer for doing initial CM work
oh yeah CM on nexus 5, cant wait till cm and pa to fully kick off
Boot will finish soon, will report back anything I find
Booted just fine, no long boot time and no FC on keyboard when setting up.
Downloading Gaaps now and will continue to report anything I find.
So far so good.
Edit: USB Storage is still borked.

That's what I meant, sorry.
Although it's not only APK related.
It doesn't find pictures, can't download anything from browser, etc.
File Manager FCs as well as when you click on Apps in the Settings menu.
First find: we have the network activity Icons back in statusbar for WIFI and Network - yay.
Restoring apps, no FCs, nothing, all looking good so far.
EDIT: when trying to assign ringtone, media crashed (probably related to the storage issue)

So, 5 mins in, here are my initial finds:

- Any apps or media related to storage crashes (obviously)
- transparency for lockscreen nav and sysbar not there yet.

CM-11.0 Install Guide
Note: CM for Galaxy S4 Mini is provided with no warranty. You are installing this software at your own risk. You may be violating your warranty.
Download CM-11.0 and gapps-jb zips and put in /sdcard
Nightly: http://get.cm/?device=serranoltexx&type=nightly
Stable: http://get.cm/?device=serranoltexx&type=snapshot
At this point, nightly builds have stopped, so the stable
version is the newest available.
UPGRADE REQUIRED
gapps version 20140606
MD5SUM: d840e20fba6f0e2b85d1aebe493a88fa
Please verify the md5sum to be sure you got the right one.
Before you install CM-11.0: Preparation (First three are optional.
Warning: Only use this recovery to flash CM-11.0. Otherwise, you risk bricking your phone!
Wipe data and cache.
Flash cm-11*.zip.
Flash gapps*.zip. You must flash gapps after every upgrade to CM11.0 since /system is formatted, wiping your previous add-ons.
Upgrades
Upgrades from previous versions of CM11.0 are the same process as install, except you do not need to wipe anything. Contrary to popular belief, you do not need to even wipe cache and dalvik-cache when upgrading between CM11.0 versions. You only need to wipe if you are doing a major upgrade, switching to a different ROM entirely, or attempting to fix bugs caused by bad backups or corrupt app data.

Just wonder to know if is better to install it over a 10.2 stable, as the wiki said, or directly from scratch as you wrote here.
In my case I have followed the wiki before you created the thread, everything seems to work fine except the fact that I lost 3GB and the compass. I had some trouble with the exchange account and the whatsapp verification, that's all...

Okay. The Point was, i wipe my Phone normaly every Time i flash it. This time i have to wipe it 4 (!) time and reflash ist with the cm rom. But now it works.
After few days with CM 11 nightly I am really liking the performance + battery life is even better than it was with CM 10.2. @Sleep battery drains 0,2% per hour vs 0,4% per hour I had with CM 10.2, which was already great result.

being a linux fanboi i'd much rather use heimdall, but downloading an 850mb rom at 15kbps (or whatever these awful hosting sites give) is a pain, although getting kies3 working in a win7 or yosemite vm is more painful it seems.
any instructions how to do it with heimdall, i assume i just install modem.bin or somesuch and don't have to actually flash a whole stock rom/recovery?
Guys, do the changes in today's nightly means cm default kernel is supporting f2fs?

- Normally (if someone provided) I flash all: Modem, rpm, tz:
heimdall flash --no-reboot --MODEM NON-HLOS.bin --TZ tz.mbn --RPM rpm.mbn --verbose
- obviously just modem:
heimdall flash --no-reboot --MODEM NON-HLOS.bin
- don't forget to flash 2x!
hint to heimdall: My experience is very good. never broke anything with the mobile with this tool. Partially they changed the parameter names so on some old versions. Above command is for version 1.4.1. If you might have problems with an message "Protocol initialization", try another package from your repositories. Some compiled versions in some user repositories are not good.
