Voice Audio Problem - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi ... pulling my hair out with this one...
my fathers phone is a galaxy sIII, less than a month old. basically what has happened is that the voice call audio doesn't work, ie the person on the other end can't hear me. I've tried resetting and installing 4.1.2 and 4.2.2 roms and none have worked. I was gonna say it was a hardware problem but for 2 things
1. skype calls work with no problem and
2. I can hear background noice (for instance if I blow into the microphone I can hear it, just not voice
Any ideas?

tried that, didn't work unfortunately...

Have you tried installing a different kernel? Might be the microphone sensitivity that is set too high.
Try installing a kernel that is compatible with Boeffla_sound. Then use the boeffla_sound app to check the microphone gain.
You can also try changing it from within the boeffla_sound app.

mic stops working in phone app

Hey,
the mic on my phone randomly stops working in calls made with the stock cm9 phone app. The other party doesn't hear anything at all, dialing tunes are transmitted, though. The Mic does work in every other app I have tested so far, just not for normal Phonecalls...
I thought it might be because of the modem so I flashed some others which temporily fixed the issue but it always arose again some time later.
I tried clearing cache and deleting the apk's data, no help
(I made sure I didn't mute in call volume, just in case u wonder)
Running cm9 rc2, stock cm9 kernel, modem i9300xxlef
I appreciate any help

I did, the issue was caused by the radio. I flashed the XXUGMK6 radio(I believe from somewhere in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...s3-modem-radio-collection-t1740061)(otherwise try sammobile) and after a few reboots it worked. For some reason it takes more than one reboot for radio changes to take effect. I hope this helps.
thx, but it did not work out for my phone.
I really think, it is a hardware issue.

[Q] No sound on call, network drops (sometimes)

Hi,
I've been searching for a solution for this problem for several days now, and couldn't find anything useful.
Hopefully you guys can help me.
Here's what happens - Most of the time, I can't hear anything during a call (doesn't matter if it's outgoing/ incoming). Sometimes everything is just fine.
Also, sometimes the network drops in the middle of a call or right after the call ends.
Another thing - if I tap on numbers in the dial pad, the other side of the call hear the sound, but in slight delay and a bit distortion.
On the first couple of days using CM, everything was fine, then then phone couldn't make calls, and couldn't hear incoming calls.
My IMEI and SN are correct.
Some of the background story is missing because my father had the phone with him for a year or so, and the problem might have started after an attempt for OTA update.
I've tried:
1) mute/unmute, turn on speaker, noise reduction, etc...
2) flashing a couple of Samsung-stock ROMs (both 4.1.2), and one older version of CM (9.1, 4.0.4).
It's a I9300, and right now it's running 4.1.2 JZO54K, XXEMG4.

[Q] i9300 microphone volume

I have a Galaxy S3 International model and the mike volume during calls is crap.
If I use an ear piece no problems,
if i use skype the hands free works beautifully.
If i use it normally or handsfree for an actual phone call i have to nearly yell into the phone to be heard.
I have tried *#*#197328640#*#* but can not get into the audio menu, that just doesnt work. Other menu items do.
The phone is rooted and I am using cm 10.2.
I have tried doing a factory reset and reloading the rom but no luck there.
have done lots of googling but most pages i have found talk of hardware faults or a blocked mike hole which isnt my issue as it works fine with the earpiece and with skype.
i have looked at the profiles, tried turning them on and off. I suspect that there must be a setting somewhere but damned if i can find it.
Anyone got any ideas ?
thanks
Go back to stock 10.1.2 and test, S3 has two microphones so skype isn't a valid test.
If problem is still there on stock then you need a service centre.
Built in mike has modifiers on stock rom in the default gain file . But as i understand it it does not apply or is a different file for Android roms .
jje
are you using a custom kernel? if so, that's what is tweaking your mic gain. try the proper kernel for your rom that allows audio tweaking or ones that are properly tweaked out the box

[Q] i9300 no sound in front speaker on incoming calls

Hello everyone,
Just got my S3 ( i9300 ) and surely enough flashed it to latest cm stable from their website which is 10.2.
Everything works, but I have this strange issue with incoming calls. When i answer the call, I cant hear the other person through the front speaker. I need to enable the back speaker and disable it to get sound on the front one. Sometimes the sound would be distorted. This does not happen on outgoing calls, they work perfectly fine.
I later flashed kitkat nightly and it had the same issue.
Problem goes away if i recover to stock. Unfortunately, i can't stand the damn thing.
Baseband v: I9300XXUGMK6, which is the newest for my region and also seems to be most common.
I tried googling, but couldnt find this specific glitch.
Any suggestions would be appriciated.
Thanks
Same problem, same story

I'm very happy to report, that yes I have. Archidroid rom ( 2.4.6 is the latest stable ).
Occasionally, I still get the same glitch, but it happens once every three reboots and goes away after first time it occurs.
Edit: i've also flashed the new baseband which comes with the rom: I9300XXUGNA8

I had the 2.4.5 installed and had to switch because of the issue, so i switched to archidroid 1.x version and problem was gone, now on archiport(ultimarom beta1) the problem is there again. Thats real sad because the rom is such awesome
So i think sammy had done something in their 4.3 version that fixed that

That's really odd, since I've been using Archi ever since I first flashed it ( at the time I believe it was 2.3.x ), and I'm a happpy user since then.
try dialing outgoing call to whatever number a couple of times and then get some incoming calls?
And yes, Archidroid is awesome, has everything you could possibly want ( the only exception being MHL )

After i had a go with Omni, I can't think of any reason why should I switch back to CM. Arhci mentioned CM's support and developer base as a reason for the switch, will see...
I use my phone at work quite heavily and it's just impossible for me to switch back and forth speakers.
Found something interesting in kryten2k35 thread... Will report

Redmi Note 9 Pro Speakerphone is always active on custom roms. can't switch to earpiece

Hi, I'm having a issue with my redmi note 9 pro. Whenever i try to make a call, it always goes to speakerphone. I cannot get it to go to the earpiece. WHen i try turning off speakerphone, the audio is still routed through the bottom speaker, and the person on the end of the call notices i sound broken up. WHen i swotch on the speakerphone the sound is clear, and then the person can hear me just fine. I've tried with whatsapp, google voice, and the regular phone app, and all have the same issue. I'm running Evolution X currently as my rom, but i've tried lineage os, and it has the same bug. On stock MIUI I don't remember having this issue, so maybe it's something weird with the custom roms. I'm also rooted with magisk. Anyone got any ideas, or has anyone ever experienced this issue when running custom roms on this phone? Any ideas, or suggestions are welcome. Thanks
Hi, I have this problem too. Of course inside the pubg mobile game. To temporarily solve this problem, first turn off the phone and connect the headphones when the operating system logo is displayed. A hissing sound is heard when plugging in the headphones.
Of course, to avoid this problem, you should use Bluetooth headphones.
Hi, I just tried your suggestion. it doesn't appear to work. My issue is with the earpiece, not headphones. Headphones for me have always worked flawlessly when running custom roms or stock. My issue is when making calls using the earpiece. Making calls using headphones seems to work fine. However when trying to use the earpiece, i cannot get it to work. What i mean by earpiece, is the top speaker of the phone, the one you have to hold close to your ear when making a call. FOr whatever reason calls always remain on the bottom speaker, and never seem to go to the top speaker aka earpiece. This happens in all calls, and in apps like whatsapp. Has anyone else ever experienced this issue? Again, headphones seem to work fine, and yes I'm rooted, and running a custom rom. When i was running stock, I don't ever remember this happening, but now that i'm running a custom rom, i can't get the earpiece to work. I really don't want to go back to the stock miui rom, but idk maybe i will if a solution can't be found

I am having the same issue! any solution please let me know!
I am having the same problem - BUT on stock MIUI 12.5 - it started happening after I upgraded. If I could go back I would, but am happy to flasha new ROM if that will fix it.
I was thinking of flashing Lineage 18.1 but if that is having the save issue I ont bother. It must be a note 9 pro issue seeing as I only have the stock version..
I wonder if anyone at all has fixed this issue. I even contact xiaomi technical support but they were useless!
Anybody found its solution please update?
I'm having the exact same issue. When I initiate call it's on loudspeaker even though I didn't select that option. The other side can't hear me well. When I select "speaker" then it's still on loudspeaker, as it should be, and the other person can hear me fine.
I had the problem on crDroid (Android 12) and am currently experiencing the same problem on Pixel Experience (Android 12).
Please help someone us

Not quite sure I follow. Are you saying to remove sim 1? Or are you saying to change the default calling sim to sim 2 or something? I should note that I'm using both sims and a SD card. Are you saying I should just use sim slot 2?

Short version:
OK, so I just tried your advice, and it WORKED.
Long Version:
Ok, so I first removed both sims with the phone off. Then i put one of my 2 sims ONLY in slot 2 like you said. I inserted it into the phone, booted it up, and made a test call. To my surprise, the phone wasn't on speaker. I couldn't beileve it. I tried again, and it worked. I switched to speaker, now it's on speaker. I turned off the speaker and it was back to the earpeice! I tried whatsapp, and same result, the earpiece was working. I then decided to shut the phone down, and put the both sim 1 and 2 back in the phone. Guess what? after booting the phone up again, and making a test call, it still works! I don't understand the rhyme or reason behind it, but I'm not complaining. I'm so happy it FINALLY works.
to recap, Basically here are the steps:
1. Turn Off phone
2. Remove both sim cards.
3. Put a sim only in slot 2
4. Turn on phone and make a test call, it should no longer be on speaker!
5. go ahead and shut down the phone, and put a sim in both slots, if you are using 2 sims.
6. Turn the phone back on, and make a test call. It should still be working on the earpiece!
yes - this worked for me also - I have been looking for so long. A simple and un-remarkab le solution to a serious problem. Xiaomi should have been able to solve this.
All the same - thank you!
Great phone that was hindered for quite a few months by this serious problem
Again - thank you !
