[Q] Which WIFI Tether Works for Sprint Note 3 - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note 3

Hello all,
I need some help. I've been at it all day and can't figure out how to get free wifi tethering to work on my Rooted Galaxy Note 3 (Sprint). This is what I've done so far..
1. Read......read.....and more reading.....but nothing....
2. Auto Root Method
3. Twrp Recovery
4. Installed odexed Stock Rom for MI5 with Twrp no issues.....
I've read that this worked for someone, I tried it, but sill nothing....
1. uncheck connection optimizer.....
2. uninstall Wi-Fi Direct 2.0.0....with titanium backup app
3. uninstall Wi-Fi Direct share 2.0.0....with titanium backup app
Any help or ideas are greatly appreciated....
Using TrevE Mod wifi app.....thinking since this is confirmed working for the Galaxy Note 2
Currently on MI5 firware......

This has been proved working. Check this thread.

Worked fine from Note 3 to laptop... However, it's a no go for another android phone, nexus 7, or iPad3... nexus and I pad didn't even see the ssid....

I hope crawrj can do the native hotspot mod for us, just like he did it for the s3, s4 & note 2 in the past.

Ok...so I purchased the Wifi Router from the Play store....figured what the heck...it's only $1.95....and ....................................now I have free Wi-Fi tether on my Note 3.......just have to configure #3 to ad-hoc mode.....the only thing that I don't like is...........the fact that the network is open...I tried to configure in different kinds of ways...but I doesn't work.
O'.....and another thing that I didn't like is........that fact that only my laptop can pick up the signal.....I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and the connection doesn't even show up under settings......I've read it has something to do with it being setup as ad-hoc....
O' well.....I can live with it for now...it was only $1.95.....plus I can tether with my laptop anywhere....

Sorry about the ad hoc issues everyone is having. I only connect a laptop and desktop, so I didn't know about the problems with tablets and other phones.

wifi hotspot for MJ4?
has anyone gotten their wifi tether to work? i saw there was a posting under the development section regarding the service.jar file and how you have to copy it to your systems/framework folder, but that was posted on the 31st of October, as i kept reading through the tread, some peeps were having issues. has anyone tried it yet? if so, can you write down the steps. thanks.

it works.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2505850
both deodex and odex mj4 versions
ok. so you are right. im too lazy to make a flashable zip.
use a file explorer with root access.
set permissions for /system to r/w
copy file into system/app overwriting one already there.
if stock mj4 use odex
if have installed a deodex rom use deodex

So do I copy the "hackedmj4odexfifi.zip" and place it in the frame folder or do I rename it to "service.jar" and then copy it in there? After that, what do i do next? do i launch the built in wifi app,ect.. Thanks. Sorry I'm still new at all this..

Unzip and you will find two files, copy those to framework folder.

I used root browser and moved the files over. I kept the old ones and just renamed them. I rebooted as the instructions outlined... It kept the phone from being able to boot completely. It froze at the yellow Sprint screen. so... I don't recommend doing it, but that's just me.

I bet you didn't read the instructions.
If you rename the old files you must change the file extension also. DO NOT servicesbackup.jar . Your phone will loop.
Do services.jar.backup
Services.odex.backup
And all will be well with the world.

That would be exactly what I did wrong then, but now I am so freaked about it I dunno if I wannt try it again. I had the phone rooted using Kingo and had Wanam and Xposed installed all working. So I didnt have a recovery mode installed (TWRP nor CWM) I was afraid of tripping Knox. So I just wanted to change the files that way. I guess I did it wrong Now I think I am going to wait for a way to do it where I can root (Kingo Style), Wanam / Xposed installer, and then just have maybe an app that works for it (WiFi Tether used to work on my SG2). Im worried about changing the root files again, as well as adding a recovery.
Thanks for the heads up though!

[mod] [download fix] [ec09] [includes tsm/nameless] [7/10/11]

Here is a little workaround or fix, either way, for the EC09 download problem. I have tried it on stock EC09, replace apk and remove odex file. It also works on TSM and Nameless, I have tried it on all of them.
There are some apk's provided here that if you replace what is currently in your /system/app folder they will fix the download issues. It also makes youtube and netflix work reliably, at least in my case. I have not had others test this out, I wanted to get this out to the XDA community to try out. You have to copy these into the app folder, if you try installing it will fail, I have used root explorer, available in market (not free), and Android Commander, Google it (requires Android SDK setup) to copy these strait to the app folder. your phone will vibrate through most of this it's just complaining about the change. Now for what you really want, the files, ok fine here they are. Please feel free to post results, good or bad, here.

BTW: after every reboot i get a DRM has stopped working message right as everything finishes loading, just click on the Force Close. It only seems to happen on boot and after you close it the app will work fine.
Now you can also get this in a flashable zip courtesy of BakedTator, thanks for the hook up on that.

OK Devs, Hope these help y'all figure out whats wrong with our leak, if not PLEASE feel free to use these.
And an extra little treat, Netflix from the market works even though it isn't available to us yet, so here it is, non modded downloaded and tested with all EC09 builds, and it has worked on every one of them for me.

Can't remember for sure but I think I got them from the nitrality, or something like that, app, in the market. The appear lets you download updated apps for sgs phones. I will find the app again and let you know for sure Jitsu, I don't have that kind of TSM skill YET to mod apps.
Just found it it was the nitrality app from the market.

Meh, if this zip isn't flashing a kernel then it can be flashed pretty much immeditately after commrom. The system update text that flashes everywhere is produced by redbend_ua during kernel flashing. bmlwrite doesn't do that. Soo flashing this after flashing the should be fine.

Hi & Thanks for the look. My phone is in my signature. Basically a virgin Galaxy Nexus unlocked and rooted.
Any .zip I try to install, even as you suggested above gives me the error. Sigh! I want that inverted stuff.
I love you guys and a newb of sorts I am frustrated in all the wonderful stuff that gets posted without install details.
I cannot help but think if I am trying to install a inverted MMS, Gmail, or People .zip should I not disable or rename the current apps that I am replacing?
I experimented flashing the su.zip and it went ok. So it is not my phone.......I think?
Thanks.

If your talking about the mms.apk,
I use root explorer to navigate to the system/app folder and find the OE mms.apk and rename it to mms.apk.bak to disable it. The icon will disappear from the home screen start bar and app drawer.
I then place the new mms.apk in system/app folder and make sure its permissions are all checked off.
Then go to my app drawer and see if its there and will run. If it does I drage the icon back onto my home bar.
Some devices are finicky. Some require a reboot after a renaming then move it in there. Some require a reboot after every move. Its according to the apk and the device.

Having major issue here. I tried to install the .zip when it was posted through cwm and it kept fibbing me an error. So then I downloaded the .APK file and tried to install it, another error. Then I moved it to system/app and when I rebooted I hand no messaging at all. I restored my stock messaging from my titanium backup file, but I can't figure out what's wrong. AllShare on 4.0.3?

After leaving stock for 4.0.3 (phone bricker 2.7) I no longer had allShare, app that I find great.
Is there an apk I could install to get it back?
Use root explorer and open a rom with allshare in it, copy the apk to your sd card, then go back to root explorer home find your copy, long press, then select copy again, then mount as r/w and paste it in the system/apps bin, voila you have allshare working like a charm

I am dual booting shostock and turbkey, with allshare on both, the dlna.apk, i extracted it out of aj's ucld4 leak and it runs fine ill see if i can upload it and post a link possiw

Interesting...everything I had found seemed to suggest that Allshare would only work with TW also. I'm running Task's AOKP also and have never been able to get it to work on my phone. I just tried with the .apk linked in this thread...placed it in the /system/app folder and made sure permissions were RW-R--R--. Rebooted, even tried to clear cache/dalivk but still nothing.
I wonder if there is anything else to try? Next time I'm ready to flash an update, I'll do a full wipe and try to place this .apk in the system/app folder before doing anything else.

You can get Skifta to use as a free alternative but I feel it doesn't work as well as AllShare did when I was able to use it (when on stock). Still hope to figure out how to get it working eventually though.

Its telling you what file isn't there, which may not be there on a Stock everything. But just get a root explorer and navigate to the root of the phone then to the folder named dev then look for a file named uinput. If its not there you might need to flash a kernel. However, I am pretty certain that file should be there on all linux systems.
EDIT: If you need, i could write a simple app to look and test if the file is there. But it should be simple enough using a root explorer

I personally use and LOVE ktoonsez's TouchWiz kernel. However, any TouchWiz kernel found in the T-Mobile Android Original Development thread should work. Also, before you do that, if you really wanna stay truly stock, run these commands in a terminal window:
Note: Every new line means you press enter after the typed text.
su
ls -l /dev/uinput
and then paste the results here. that should tell you everything about the file, including if it exists or not.

Ok thanks. I'll have to flash back to stock first. Im currently running cm11.

But the file was there when I checked before I flashed the kernel. I think with the stock kernel the app wasn't getting full root access or something to find it.

That could be possible. Or that the kernel was denying any inputs to it that weren't from the system or something. But glad you got it working!

Ex. I start the app, click ime to BT/joystick center turns yellow then I search for controller it finds the controller, I then click JT on turns yellow and everything it's suppose to do. I then back out like it says to do. I'm then able to go into edit mode and set up things as normal. Now here's the problem. Once I set the button I wanted mapped and place it over the the touch button I want it to control it saves and everything but once I go to play it's not even registering anything when I push the controller. Then after a few minutes I can't even get back to edit mode. When I go back into the BT/Joystick center app the JT is now off.
So basically I'm not able to do anything after I mapped the touch buttons to the controller. And then some how the JT turns off by its self. Now one ever helped me when I had the Moto X. Seems the only way for this app to run is with stock. Cause it was working flawless with cm11 on this phone and the Moto X.

That could be possible. Or that the kernel was denying any inputs to it that weren't from the system or something. But glad you got it working!

sounds like the app is getting garbage collected. Instead of backup out of it, try pressing the home button.

Tbh, it sounds like poor programming. Never used the app personally though. And you say it always works on CM11? It wouldn't surprise me if the kernel is killing the app due to memory loss or something. CM11 probably uses less memory.

Yeah. It sucks. But thanks for all your help. I'll just wait to see if I can try something else.

If you want to give me the apk i could probably mod it to hold a notificiation while you are using the app, that way it can't get killed. Is the app paid or not?
It's paid.
I am also having the same issue (cannot get access to /dev/uinput). I searched for the file using es file explorer and found that file inside sys/modules/uinput. can i just copy paste that inside dev/ ( i am using paranoid android on one plus one.).

[ROM] TWRP stock pre-rooted flash of OK2 for N900P

This is a prerooted stock ROM of the OK2 update. It also has the sd card fix patch applied.
This ROM requires installing a custom recovery on your device, which will trip Knox.
All operations are done at your own risk
I would advise against flashing the EFS partition unless you know yours is corrupted (i don't think many people have that issue). The Boot, System, and Modem partitions all need to be flashed though.
If installing over Kitkat, a factory reset will most likely be required as lollipop installs apps differently. Also be prepared to lose all files on internal memory.
I would recommend backing up your OS before flashing. Also it wouldn't hurt to backup app data to make reinstalling apps easier.
Here's the thread for twrp:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-3-sprint/general/how-to-root-note-3-lollipop-t3089382
To install the ROM, extract the 7zip file to "/ExtSdCard/twrp/backups/{serial number}/"
using your favorite software (I made the file with ES File Explorer on Android).
Enter recovery mode (Volume up + Home button while poering on), and select "Restore" from the list of options.
There is a option to select internal or external storage to Restore from.
Select the OK2 stock rooted backup file. (Un)Check the appropriate boxes.
Restore the image to install the new OS
Here's the ROM

I don't suppose you have another link? It fails to download every time I try.*Edit* I didn't have drive installed just flashed cm nightly forgot to install it :silly: thanks. And keep up the good work!
Not right now. I know youl'll receive two or three different errors, but you gotta click "continue" or "download" or "download anyway" to get the file. If it continues to be a problem, I can setup a torrent server for it when i get home tonight.
It might also help to download to a pc, or on a Wi-Fi connection. I've had issues with downloads failing to complete using my phone with big files.
Is there a way to change the launcher to 5x4

I do not know if there's a way to do so with to do so with TouchWiz, since I haven't used it since before the Kitkat update.
I've been using Go Launcher EX for awhile now instead, and it supports that feature.

I do not know. I use a third-party app for my hotspot. If you have hotspot services with your provider, the native one should work, but I have not tested that theory.
If you're not signed up for hotspot services, check here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2796994
or the "Wi-Fi Tether Router" app on the play store works very well for me (since this is a rooted ROM):
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.snclab.wifitetherrouter&hl=en
Just have to remember with that app to turn the device's Wi-Fi on before activating the hotspot.
Is anyone else having wifi calling issues with this rom? At first I got the error 16 switch message when trying calls of any kind off wifi, but wifi calling worked. Then I called sprint and they worked their magic to correct the error 16 message but I've had wifi calling issues ever since. Calls start and immediately drop on wifi calling.

I personally never had that problem. But I did notice if I tried to download a big file, or other devices on the network were using a LOT of data, the Wi-Fi calling would disconnect. Sometimes using the Bluetooth could cause problems since it uses the same antenna as the Wi-Fi... But I only had issues with that when transferring data with one or the other.
Yep, I know it can be picky, I have used it for years. This is the first time is disconnects immediately on every wifi call. Nothing has changed on my network. Comcast 75mbps, wireless AC router. It started with this rom, which by the way I love otherwise.
For sprint note3?

Am i supposed to be able to do this on my phone without a computer?

If you have successfully unzipped the file while the device is in normal operation. Then after you have booted into recovery mode (twrp) you should be able to locate the unzipped file with twrp. If it doesn't flash (Install) then something else is wrong. Is your phone already rooted ? If so what OS are you running now ? If not, You may want to root with supersu first. Do you have an SD Card installed in your device? If so, using a root file manager app like Root Explorer copy and paste the unzipped OK2 OS file to the Sd Card and boot back into twrp recovery and locate the unzipped file and flash from the SD Card.

This requires a custom recovery. I used TWRP to make the backup, and used ES File Explorer to zip it. If you don't have a custom recovery, you need a computer to install one. There is a completely stock ROM available if you don't want to trip Knox and keep your device completely stock, but that does require a computer.
Ok i ill try it again when im in better service i thought i had to put it in my backup folder

It took mine a good ten to fifteen minutes at least to go through all that.
Did you remember to clear your Dalvik and cache?
Moved to Android Development since that's where this technically belongs.

How does it belong in development when there is no development, nor has there been, any development going on in this thread? People needing help and asking basic questions doesn't count as development.
Restore or install?!?!
I have seen people say to "restore", "install", and/or "flash" this file. These are all options in TWRP. Which is it?
