i had the same prob. Solution is easy. Just download the originial stock rom. You can flash this by using odin. Select pda and your file (should be a .tar file). good luck!

Firmware upgrade on a custom stock ROM ?? You don't do that. Do as above or you could flash philz kernel through Odin and restore you're bk up.

I had the same problem, but I thought,if firmware upgrade encounters an issue , you can't enter download mode

Tried flashing Kernel with ODIN also tried flashing a stock official ROM. No luck. Kernel gets stuck at NAND Write and ROM says FAIL.

Search for Hopper8's 'Odin troubleshooting' thread. Try the stuff in that thread. Keep trying it. Only way you're fixing it is if you get it to successfully take an Odin flash.

I had the same problem, and flashing the Stock official ROM with Odin worked for me, just make sure you're using the correct version of Odin, I think I had to try one or two different versions before the flash worked for me.

Tried everything. Different versions of ODIN, different stock roms, 3 part jb rom, custom kernels, followed Hopper8's thresd to the T and still no luck. Can't get a single successful flash. Everything stops inbetween. The only thing I havent tried is flashing a bootloader. Since I'm out of options and replacing is too expensive for a 3yr old phone im willing to risk anything now. Thing is I was on neatROM jb 4.1.2 was this problem happened so which bootloader file can I try flashing via odin?

Service centre (a bootloader flash isn't going to fix your problem).

yup service centre said Rs.10,500/- ($170) to replace the motherboard. Noway I'm spending that much to fix a 3yr old phone so is there anything else I can try before dumping it in the trash.

Nope. You insist you've tried everything. What do you want anyone here to suggest ?

MistahBungle is right, no magic tricks here. If you really have followed through the entirety of my guide, and done it again on a different pc, and still no luck, then I'm afraid it's done for unfortunately. The one step I'd encourage you to try over again is flashing the 3 part firmware again. If you're satisfied that you've nothing more to try then throw it out. Or send it to me or MistahBungle.

Just try to flash siyahkernel tar and if that don't work try some other cable. If nothing works i suggest you to sell it and buy another mobile.

Try flashing just cwm through odin. Then may be you can fix problems. Just a thought mate.

SO now that my phone has been officially declared dead is there any way to recover some data from it? I have a few recordings and photos that are on the phone and I can get it into download mode so is there any possibility of data recovery?

Unlikely. A company who specialises in recovery of data from dead HDD's might be able to help, but it's very much a longshot & will be very expensive if possible.

The phone is NOT dead. You van save it by forcing it to download mode by usb jig (1$ on ebay), then flash unsecure kernel (like Siyah/Dori with CWM inside) using Odin. If you're unable to do it by yourself - take the device to a cellphone repair shop.

If you haven't shut off the phone you should be able to load it back up in Odin desktop and start over. Can you get into download mode?

Try installing Samsung Kies http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=...Hsxw4ptEdLDgjmDtA&sig2=s2Ik_zAvbYl1EZ28DFGk_A
then pop off your battery and get your Model and serial (NOT IMEI!) numbers and write them down.
in kies click on tools>emergency firmaware recovery a window should popup
boot your device into download mode
on the "emergency fw recovery window" should show your device... it will ask for your SN and model, input them as it shows on the back of your device. It will then install the latest Samsung FW (ICS).
worked for me when i got mine to the point odin wasnt working.
Stock SGH-I777 "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue"
My phone froze and when I tried to boot it back up it showed "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue". I'm running a stock jellybean rom so I tried emergency recovery with kies and it gets stuck at "Proceed to firmware emergency recovery" at 0%. I have tried using different usb cables, ports and even different pc's. I also reinstalled all the drivers properly. I tried flashing a stock rom using odin but it always fails. I can go into download mode but not recovery mode. I looked at many threads and the common course of action is to flash with odin. I have tried numerous times with different methods and it still won't get fixed. Please help. Thanks in advance and I apologise if this question is getting old but I am stumped.
note: before this happened the phone was working perfectly fine. I was running a stock rom and no root

Flashing the kernel
Thanks @cyril279. I tried it again with no luck. Flashing the kernel failed. And now it shows that the current binary is now custom. It was official before. And also the binary counter went from 1 to 3. IDK if that helps at all
The increased binary counter is likely the result of attempts to flash the Siyah (non-stock) kernel. I was unaware that it would notch the counter if the flash was NOT successful.
Assuming that you followed the steps thoroughly, in their correct order, and using the correct firmware for the exercise, (siyah kernel and SBL.bin) then I am left to assume, as the post states, that your eMMC memory is damaged.
I have not had much experience with damaged eMMC memory, so perhaps our peers can chime in with other options that may be available to verify the condition of the device.
creepyncrawly said:
Try the following, just in case the problem is nand r/w corruption.
[...the six steps...]
If you are unable to get any of these to flash successfully, first you should assume a bad port, or bad cable, and try other ports, other cables, even another pc. If you can get no flash to succeed, then you may have damaged eMMC memory.
In case it is damaged memory, see this post from Mobile Tech Videos.

okay? the first thing to do here is just flash a stock ROM, no need for pit files
Mine was stuck before than samsung logo, on the model number screen. Almost 1 second or less after opening the device.
Then i flashed 4.0.4 and magically it opened without any loop or something. Its useless to flash 4.1.2 or any other jb stock rom, for some reason it seems not fixing the loop issue.
Again, there is no problem related with pit files.

Follow the steps to root and flash your custom ROM again as if you just got your phone. The same thing happened to my T999, and it took me 3 tries doing this to finally get back into Recovery.
try to flash in odin stock rom then root use cwm then try to go to recovery..
My cousin's having the same exact issue and we've been unable to find the proper rom. Can anyone please tell me where to get one? I've downloaded some "international" ones but when i try to upload it it keeps telling me failed, i've tried at least 4 or 5 different roms.
ANY help would be greatly appreciated!!
Phone is:
GT-i9300
using it in the US with StraightTalk in the US (been working like a charm for ~6 months, all of a suddent when into this weird limp mode)
Phone was running jellybean 4.1.1 (through kies) and not rooted
Try several times before giving up. Sometimes it works after when the device feels that you've had enough stress and fear.
I mean the problem is common but it's solved in different ways or different repeats.
But it seems that your problem is a software problem that can be solved.

GT-I9300 Boot Loop after numerous try! HELP!

Hello.
Currently I have Samsung GT-I9300 (international edition ) that I bought from UAE. But I am already in Indonesia right now.
My s3 is currently at boot loop.
After digging around in the forum, I found a number of things to try.
Here is the list of things I have done:
1. I tried flashing stock rom using odin pc. The stock I used is the newest ( I9300XXEMC3_I9300NEEEMC1_NEE). Result from ODIN: Succeed. But the boot loop is still looping!!
2.Then I tried flashing cmw recovery because I can't get into recovery at all. After flashing, there's red exclamation mark on upper left corner with the Samsung logo. And still cannot get into recovery using the combo (vol up+home+power) button, it wouldnt go into recovery at all and keep showing me the samsung logo.
3.Next I tried flashing the rescue firmware in i9000 post (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=40509099#post40509099). I used the XXELLA. Flashed the pit, csc, pda and bootloader. The boot loop still persist.
4.The last thing I did is bring it to Samsung service center. They tried flashing their current (Indonesian) stock rom but the problem also persists. They advised that I need to change the mainboard in UAE where the phone is originally from. They said because after changing mainboard , they need to re inject IMEI. And can only do that in original country. And they informed me the flash also succeed thru odin, it's just the boot loop is still looping...
In download mode the product name still presents. (I read a post in this forum saying if the product name still persists then the mainboard is not fried (is the information correct?)
And all flashing thru odin give me succeed message. This indicates my mainboard is still safe.
My problem now is I cannot get into reocvery and the boot loop persists.
I believe that my problem would be not being able to wipe data /cache as I can't get into recovery mode.
So my question is can I wipe data and cache using odin ? If yes, coudd anyone tell me how?
Also, please advise me on what else to try on my S3.
I am really desperate and out of ideas.
Your help would be greatly appreciated !
Thank you.

I'm not sure if this helps, but I have two points:
the red exclamation mark is usual after flashing non-Samsung images.
If you check "Re-Partition" in Odin, the data should be wiped.
DISCLAIMER: No guaranty! Your're using Odin at your own risk
If you have wiped data it old be damaged NAND flashing stock and a data wipe should fix any software problems.

[HELP]ODIN Stock Firmware Flash Issue. Virgin GT-I9300

I'm having real issues trying to get a stock ROM on my Virgin Mobile S3 (GT-I9300) and I'm hoping you guys can help me. I've looked absolutely everywhere for a solution but so far nothing has worked.
OK so a little history about the problem:
Using phone as normal, and then randomly turns off. Turn it back on and I get the two Samsung splash screens loop booting constantly. I boot into recovery mode and do a factory reset - same problem. Clear the cache - same problem. Send phone back to Virgin and they tell me I've rooted and installed a custom ROM which I absolutely have not but they have a screenshot with the custom counter showing '1'.
I've no idea how this is possible, but I would have remembered if I'd installed a custom ROM. Anyway, they send it back because I'm not going to fork out £100 for them to flash it.
So...lots of research later, I download the latest Odin (3.09), find the most likely stock ROM that will work with my phone (Carrier is Virgin Mobile UK). I find this ROM on SamMobile: I9300XXUGMK6_I9300OXAGMK6_BTU. Cannot for the life of me find an actual Virgin rom so this apparently should be fine as it's a generic EU build.
Fine, so I apply it using the AP selection in Odin, connect phone, it goes through and applies fine "PASS" etc.. and phone reboots automatically.
Now, it just sits at the Samsung splash screen (the static white text) and doesn't go any further. I've left it upwards of 10 minutes but no dice. So look online and find threads that suggest booting to recovery and doing a factory reset will do the trick. So try that (Power+volume up+home) and same problem - static splash screen. Balls.
So now I don't know what to do. I either need to try an actual Virgin ROM which doesn't seem to exist(?!) or my phone is truely bricked and I'll finally have a good reason to destroy the thing.
Can anyone let me know what the next steps should be? I would be eternally grateful.
Thanks in advance.
I found the s3 to be a pain when doing a reset. Basically do it twice. Wipe, flash, wipe then boot. As far as I know btu is correct but virmin mobile used to rent their airspace from tmobile who are now half ee. Such a minefield..

When you say 'wipe' do you mean factory reset via recovery mode? Because I'm not able to access that. All I can get to is Download Manager to use with Odin...
I thought you said you could access recovery and you had cleared cache. In that case you are buggered. If it goes through the flashing phase and reboots but you still cannot get into recovery then you have 3 options..
1. Flash another rom but no lower than 4.3. Carrier shouldn't matter.
2. Full on flash with pit file (dangerous and can perma brick).
3. Return the phone under warranty and state that the flash counter also clocks official flashes too, samsung should know this as they make the phone.. staff need training if they say otherwise.

Try the rescue firmware from general forum, follow the instructions exactly as it includes a pit.
It sounds like nand failure, so it's possible that you won't be able to fix it.

Apologies for not being clearer, before sending it back to Virgin for the warranty repair I could access the recovery mode fine, when I got it back I couldn't - whether that was caused by the flashing of the firmware or something Virgin did I don't know unfortunately.

Thanks for the tip - I've flashed the stock recovery and I can now get into recovery mode! Looks slightly different but I can now access the factory reset/wipe cache options so that's some improvement.
I'm just downloading the stock international ROM as per this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/general/fix-s3-to-factory-unroot-stock-recovery-t2323847 but it's going to take a few hours. Thanks so much for your advice so far i'll report back once the download completes.
No joy
I can however get into download mode and recovery mode now. Is there anything else I can try? Is it possible I can get a custom recovery image on there and flash it with something other than the stock rom?
I've got a feeling you're correct and it could be a hardware fault. Virgin say I can pay £100 to get it fixed, if they have to replace the entire phone that would prove it wasn't 'tampering' that caused it so I could potentially get my money back I guess, if I complained. I think that might be my only option now.
Ok I just booted into recovery mode and I was greeted with this error:
Any ideas what this could mean?

I say this to people who have this sort of problem but I mention the dreaded word and they tend to ignore it but will tell you what to try anyway.
Install Kies 3 for android 4.3 (there I said it Kies) on the top menu bar click Tools then Firmware Upgrade and Installation
Follow the on screen instructions, this process will wipe the phone and install the most up to date original carrier / phone firmware, after this the phone should work and you can then root, flash roms etc , it may work for you so try it, don't just dismiss it because it refers to the use of Kies

Make sure you are using the USB cable supplied with the phone and it is connected direct to your PC USB port, ideally the ones on the back but don't connect through any multi USB port connectors.
The USB cables and how you connect can make a difference

All Kinds of odin flash fails!!!!

Hello,
I'm having a strange problem since I'd flashed Cyanogenmod 10.2 on my device. I was running smooth for couple of days and then suddenly it restarted and stuck on Samsung bootlogo. Whenever I'd tried to power on it was stuck there. Then I tried odin flash stock latest NG3 rom and the phone asked for pit. After this it's not working anymore except the Download mode. It shows on odin but when I try flashing anything it fails all the time. Please if anybody can help me on this :crying:
I had never have a problem of this kind while flashing other devices hundreds of times but this one.

@mistermish2000, I'm not a pro but I believe that your partition is corrupted.
If you flashed with PIT selected then you can try to use a recovery firmware for your device from XDA. That would be a last resort though.
thanks RazorMC. I tried with stockrecovery file with no luck, but can u suggest any recovery firmware for the I9300 version please. I'm also looking but if u know any that worked before please suggest. thanks again

No this is a sign of complete eMMC failure see this post >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/help/problem-white-screen-black-lines-rain-t2467459 << I have never seen anyone recover from this and I have seen quite a few posts with the same problem. Service repair recommended :crying:
Try reading the 'dead boot repair solution' thread in general forum, a repair shop with a z3x box will be able to tell you if the emmc is totally fried.

Hello,
I'm having a strange problem since I'd flashed Cyanogenmod 10.2 on my device.
