[Q] Camera fix 4.3 - AT&T HTC One (M7)

Hey guys, did anyone notice a positive change or fix on the AT&T HTC One's camera with today's update OTA 4.3??
I wanted to know so I won't go back to stock ROM for nothing,
I'm running CleanROM 6.0 with android 4.3 and Sense 5.
At least in this ROM there is no change in the camera,
but I still have hope that in today's update there is a change/fix.

There was no improvement for me at all.
My wife's phone did not have the issue, and I have even heard that some people who didnt have the issue before, now do.
I am curious as to what the actual remedy is. Some say hardware, others say firmware.
Id be more irritated about it if it affected anything other than low-light photos for me. But I am still quite pissed as my only option is to send it in to HTC and wait without a phone for a couple weeks. I should be able to walk into any AT&T store and swap it with a new device. A hardware defect is a hardware defect. AT&T should fix the issue in the store. The only people I know who dont have the issue, have a launch device.

Sprint Official update problem

First of all, I will start by mentioning that this is my third Touch Pro from Sprint and I just want to confirm something before I take back to the store.
Is there anyone else who updated to the newest official firmware and have problems with your video playback from your albums. I had some videos stored from my old phone on a sd, and when I try to play it on this phone, it would cause a lot of jagging, freezes, audio playing while video is not. I then recorded a video with the camcorder and when I went to play back, it did the same thing. The settings I have it in is in
-CIF 352x288
-MPEG4
If its the phone, then I'm glad because I can go get myself the Touch Pro 2 at the store for free.
Things to note,
-had no problem like this on the 2nd phone
-upgraded the firmware as soon as I got home with this phone
-been like this for a while, just never cared to get an answer until now
Any feedback to a similar problem or non-exsisting problem would be greatly appreciated.
Look, if your ultimate goal is to get a free TP2, then just tell them that the phone gets unholy hot or some defect from the phone itself (battery lasting less than half a day with moderate use, etc). Believe me that the TP from Sprint has a bunch of those... If you start going by software, believe me that they will find a way to either fix it or convince you that it can be fixed with an update...
were you getting a free tp2 due to these issues?? Because im having the same issues as well including that my battery gets extremely hot and will not charge

I'm curious about this myself. I was gonna get a Hero in a couple of months when my contract is up, but if I get a TP2, I might hold out for a little while.
There is a list somewhere that after a certain date, if your phone is with in the manufacture warranty of 1 year, and you have insurance of both types with sprint, you can switch out the phone to a list of 10 other phones, the TP2 and the hero being among those.
Still a sure answer on this would be great. Thanks egz on some insight. And gxt, you mean you are having problems with video playback too?
So I think I'll be going to the sprint store tomorrow, I'll let you guys know how it goes, unless I don't go that is.

What insurance do you have to have? Where is this list?
My 2nd tp just crapped out on me and insurance just sent me a "new" one.

im going to give this a shot.
Hello everybody(insert simpsons joke here), it looks like i finally went to the sprint store. After what seems like a lifetime ago, i told them the problems I had, they said they would do a hard reset, and to come back in an hour. An hour and a half later and I will be getting mnyself a touch pro 2 soon. Now the only bad part is that i need to call this store to find out when they would have any touch pro 2's in their warehouses. So at least for now, I am assed out, oh and forgive me if this comes off as bad grammer, I am typing this from my touch pro 1, the screen is too small.

Camera freezing.

I know that there are topics made about this issue. I'm wondering though how many of you actually have it. The main culprit from my research seems to be that the OTA has some bugs that is making the Camera go on the fritz.
If this indeed is true, then would another OTA fix it? My return date is tomorrow so I have some time to think before I exchange it for a fresh new one. If it indeed is a OTA issue, then I don't want to exchange it since I have applied a nice screen protector.
i doubt its the ota. i took all of the ota so far. i have no issue with camera.
Really? That's disheartening..
I googled "evo 3d camera freeze" and many, many people held discussions in other forums about their camera freezes. A lot of them also pointed out that they didn't have the problem until after installing the OTAs.
I really don't know what to do.
There are other threads on this but the bottom line is that the camera software is buggy and yes, it freezes a lot. I can't say anything about prior OTA's but I am confident that future OTA's will fix the camera bugs because they all appear to be software to me.
Mike
Thanks. I think I'll just keep the phone.
Worst comes to worst, I'll still be covered under HTC's warranty and can schedule a free repair with them. Sure I'll be phoneless but it's better than exchanging a otherwise perfectly functional phone and risking getting a phone that's worse.
Same here I have that problem to and I have latest ota. Hopefully this gets fixed.

The other thing that I like to point out is..
Why isn't this a bigger issue than it is? Is it mainly because, those who don't have this issue did NOT take the OTAs? I know that everyone is waiting for root so most people on here probably did not take the OTA to ensure full root functionality. I mean that's assuming the main factor for freezing is from the OTAs (which some lucky ones who did install the OTA didn't get this issue like the above.).
I don't know. I just feel like this issue isn't widespread for HTC to notice. :/
My camera is extremely buggy. I did the OTA so that I could see the Green Hornet (Which never worked for me :'( Only option is to buy it) and now my camera is all but totally worthless it locks up so bad
It doesn't seem to concern htc as they contacted me back through email that they currently aren't experiencing any camera issues... Lies.... So the only remedy they offered me was to factory reset... Done that twice.. Or to take it to a repair center. But I believe this is a software issue.
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
This is a huge issue for me and it's getting worse. Its got to the point now I have to turn the phone off and sometimes even pull the battery. At first it was simply kill the camera and try to open it. After opening it about 7 times it would work. I'm going to start looking in to this further as it has gotten out of control. I'll post back here if I find anything worth sharing.

This is what they told me as well. The support rep assured me that the phone might need repairs. I mean, they are a big company, so they probably don't want a big issue like this being on the front page to Engadget. So they're most likely downplaying all the issues and we can hope that a fix in the near future is out there...

Whoa. This is exactly my problem. Except, mine isn't getting worse but if you have anymore info on this issue, feel free to speak your mind. I do feel your pain brother, I love photography and thought this would be my point and shoot while shopping for a DSLR.
I too am experiencing the freeze up once in a while but my main gripe is well yes it is a down step from the 8meg pixel camera on the original EVO, and I understand that but I came from the Hero with a 5meg camera also and it seems to take sharper and better quality photos than my 3vo...of course in 2D. A little disappointed to say the least.
So far tempt rooting doesn't seem to make the freezing stop. Oh well...I haven't found much use for the camera as of lately. The phone itself is flawless though..
This is my second Evo 3D and both did it. Same issues as discussed here. This is how I can seem to "force" it. If I take a picture and the preview is up and I touch the screen before the preview goes away then it stays of the preview. Have to close and restart camera bunch. Also if I am in the camera and I hit the little thumbnail in the lower left to go to the gallery, also stuck on the first preview it brings up. SOMETIMES if I close the camera and then go to the actual Gallery and then come back to the camera it will work.
I also experience these type of issues when switching from 2D to 3D. Again, this is my second (I had to return the first one fore defective screen) and they both had the exact same behavior. Both BEFORE and AFTER OTA.
It is actually very embarrasing to try to show off your new technology and it freezes everytime you try to show it off. I have had several people just laugh at it. "Yeah nice phone."
If you absolutely do not have to. Don't exchange it. My phone works flawlessly minus the camera freezing and I ended up not taking the risk of getting a phone with a myriad of issues in this forum.
As soon as HTC sends out another OTA fixing this, as I'm sure this is a software issue, I will be extremely pleased.
yeah i dont know what to do, because htc is assuring me that it could be hardware related. Although i dont think thats the case since it hasnt fully failed yet. Camera app works to a point where i start messing with the 2d/3d switch or hold the phone from portrait mode to landscape mode.
Same with mine. It works on and off (mostly off) so I am at least 90% sure it's a bug in the software for the camera.

thanks for your response, i guess we'll just play the waiting game since everything else works flawlessly on this phone
I took all ota's. No camera bugs here.

The issue is the SD card.
The factory one is SLOW. It takes time to write to a slow card....hence camera lag while it's writing the image file.
That was tough....next.

The my Prime didnt have lockup issue till 1.13 POLL

Good luck everyone this forums is lucky to have Gary here I recommend you take advantage if you need help I will be leaving the forums and no longer bothering anyone I am returning mine for a refund.
Refund confirmed hopefully Asus gets everything straightened out
PS Big thanks to Gary Key he knows how to get stuff done and be helpful forums should be grateful to have him here.
Same story here.
No lockup issues here before or after.
and unfortunately I called this very scenario playing out like this because this is what happens when you try to make firmware compatible with different hardware variables which it's clearly obvious the Primes have and if I had gun to head I would put my life on the processors. They should have only made 1.13 for the people having the ICS lockup issues if they want to take the half assing it shortcut route. The real way to clean up their mess is a mass recall which clearly they are not willing to do.
Feel like I should speak up because we only hear the negative
Have never really had issues with my prime other than mediocre wifi range, obviously no GPS, and before the update an occasional reboot (like once a week and I use it a lot) .
As far as I can tell this update has neither improved nor broke anything .haven't had random reboot yet. Usually dock it when I'm not using it, so I can not attest to any battery life changes but it doesn't appear worse (but my battery life has never been as great as I had hoped, ever since I got it but its a non issue)

Are you saying your prime occasionally reboots on it's own and you don't think that's a problem? maybe not for you but that's now how the device is supposed to function.
... I shall not make posts in the future when I am angry about something entirely unrelated ...

I am simply stating that before the update it had locked up and rebooted ...maybe a total of 3 times since I got it in early January. Yea I don't like it, but it happened so infrequently that I, personally, didn't mind (I am not at all complaining to the people complaining about random reboots, just sharing my story) and was planning on installing a custom rom anyway once the bootloader is unlocked and roms are developed.
Also, I've only had the update for a day or 2, so there is not enough evidence for me to come to any solid conclusion, but I can not tell a difference in performance for better or worse, and it at least hasn't locked up and rebooted yet.
Can you describe the "lock up " issue everyone is having? Its frequency too. Maybe I have it and am just too dumb to notice.
Not all Primes are the same, as we can clearly tell. Perhaps I was gifted with a Prime with marginally fewer problems. Who knows?
Had Reboots and Lockups before.
No Reboots and Lockups after .13 Update.
Wi-Fi now showing +5-10dBm after update.
PLUS, GPS can now lock on and maintain lock inside moving vehicle (Used it in trips up and down Houston all day yesterday with Google Nav and Sygic Nav).
BUT, now seems to have battery drain issues. Am still checking on what could be causing this. I'm not one who easily jumps to conclusions and blame the update just because even if the only change was the update.
I'll initiate a factory reset during the weekend with just base unit test and full re-install of apps. There has to be more to this issue than meets the eye.

Sorry if I came off rude I am just fed up with Asus and wish I could have my money back. anyway lockup issue is when whatever is currently on your screen will lockup and freeze in place for about 10 seconds and then the Prime will proceed to reboot itself if yours did this it has the "lockup issue with ICS " and believe it or not most Primes did not have this problem at all.

I'm with you, I haven't really had any problems either. It's obvious to me that there is small but percentage of primes that was sent out with problems. I can't think of any reason why a company would send out a recall for a small percentage of problems. It would be easier to just wait for those people to call in so they can fix it, which is what ASUS has always been willing to do. Instead it appears as though there are some people on this forum who just like to sit with their expensive toy that doesn't work and not do anything about it.
Mine has problems too
Just started after this damn .13 update, never had a single problem before but now every time the tab sleeps for more than a few min it wont come back unless I hold the power button for 10+ secconds. This is so anoying and I think Asus really needs to step up the customer support and get out a real update that fixes more than it breaks, and while they are at it recall the primes and replace them because they obviously werent ready for market and just were rushed to get sales before christmas. Please fix!!!!! I love my tablet but would just like it to work, I dont want to have to buy an iPad just to get a half decent producy that is 98% stable.
jdbaker82 said:
Just when you thought it couldn't get any worse...... returned my old Prime because it had lockup issue with ICS got a new one and have been happily using it for a month with no issues and now since 1.13 I have the random lockup reboot issue and to top it off my battery life is much worse. So basically Asus decided to test the new patch on the Primes with lockup issue but amazingly( or maybe not so amazing since this is Asus) they forgot to test it with Primes that didn't have the lockup issues.
I think Gary misplaced his notes for the patch and just made it sound good.
9.4.2.13 Release Notes -
1. Fix Random Reboot / Lockup Problem (100% success in regression testing with returned units, hopefully the same in the community) Truth: Fixed the random reboot issue on those that had it while causing the ones that did not have the problem to now randomly reboot and freeze.
2. who cares
3. General Performance Enhancements. Truth: severe performance degradation including battery and sleep issues.
4. New WiFi Firmware (there might be improvements in WiFi performance or lock capabilities, still working on the WiFi/BT dropout fix that will not be assisted by the WiFi/GPS Truth: We are blowing smoke up everyone's ass on this issue there will be no fix unless you want to design your own backplate for the Prime.

I love how a lot of you are refusing to realize the fact that asus is working with new hardware... hardware that is currently unavailable in any other device. So Asus isn't hitting the sweet spot yet with all of these updates, welcome to owning brand new technology. Who knows what problems other manufacturers will run into with these new processors. The big things that I see here are;
1) someone from Asus is actually taking time to listen to the community, do their darnedest to assist where possible, and actually give us some type of update as to what is going on (whereas I have not heard of reps from other companies doing the same, hell, even giving us an idea as to what to expect in the next update)
2) we've gotten 4 updates in the past 2 months, which goes to show that Asus is actively trying to fix what's wrong. I know for a fact, that after 3 months, htc finally released an update that supposedly fixed random reboots for one of their devices (I know, I know, getting updates past a carrier is a pain, but still, I'm used to an update every 3 or so months, not every 2 weeks)
This is a HELL of a lot more that Asus is doing for their customers than quite a few other android manufacturers out there. Cut them a bit of slack, let them do their job and fix their devices, and in no time, we will all be happy with functioning tablets. For those of you who can't understand this and want to return their tablets, I wish I could say that I'm sad to say this, but go ahead. I, personally am gonna wait it out, see what can be accomplished, and I'll laugh at you guys when my prime is working as it should (which mine does, albeit a reboot here and there).
Things take time, not everything works right on the first few tries, but I'm sure that as they send out these updates, they're at least ruling out culprits for the issues.
Welcome to owning a technologically advanced chunk of metal, glass, and plastic, enjoy your stay or gtfo ^_^

And how do you propose having firmware changes just for people with issues be handled? How would general updates after that be implemented? The over simplified statement of only fixing the broken ones has a lot more ramifications than you could possibly imagine. It would make maintenance of the system a complete mess...

If it was free and I was a tester I'd understand. Honestly though, when they had all the dumb beta testers, didn't one of them notice there was no gps signal or did they notice it and ignore it? Baffled by this and I lose sleep at night.

I think that the worst part about all this is that they claim they tested the update, when it is clear that they haven't. This is TF201 launch all over again where they sent devices to the market that didn't get any testing.
Just when I didn't think all this could get any worse, it has.
I will vote in this poll about 3 days or more after receiving my update (not available for WW-devices yet..), I say 3 days because I want to monitor the tablet and see how how it reacts to the new update before jumping to conclusions.
My primary concern is that it of course actually fixes my random rebooting issue.. which it looks like it does when I check the forum for people who used to have the issue before.
I can imagine that the battery drain can be just for the first 24 hours or so, because the tablet has to get used to the changes or something like that

The great Lumia 920 conspiracy.......

Am I the only person that's noticed the cover up (or at best complete overlooking) of the 920 MANY issues?
Let me say, I own(d) a 920 and I loved it so much I looked past all its flaws, and I dealt with a lot. Previous owner factory reset it right in front of me and we know what that means. I spent the next 12 ****ing hours unbricking the thing just so I could use it! Now, after owning the 920 a freakin week, it stops reading my SIM card suddenly so now I'm back with android.
I just notice that no tech site has EVER run any articles about the litany of major issues with this phone. Hell even in the forums nobody seems to have put it together! Am I the only one who sees it??
Bricking on factory reset
Battery life issues
Black screen on calls
Hardware buttons randomly not working, requires soft reset
Phone suddenly stops reading SIM cards
I'm sure I'm missing some but those are the one I dealt with. Am I alone?

I've been using the 920 for 2.5 months now and I have none of your issues. I had the restart bug but it got fixed with portico update. also there is some dust under the FFC but i don't care because it is not on the lense and it don't use it anyway.
i know about black screen and factory reset bug but i read for the 1st time that there should be major problems with the SIM card or the hardware buttons.

Am I alone?

My son has had the 920 since it came out...Other than *****ing about the lack of the most popular apps (instagram, temple run, Jetpack Joyride...etc) the phone has been nothing but flawless. He will never give it up because he is an xbox junkie lol
i've had it for almost 2 months now..
only issue i've had is the crashing (normally every couple of days), since updating seems ok so far...I've flashed a few 'roms' to it, EE branded and normal
I thought the screen going blank in calls was supposed to happen? Like to save power? last couple of phones i've had turn the screen off when you put it to your head?
I'll be honest, i'm a little disapointed in windows phone 8, after coming from 7 with no crashes for a year (apart from once when i started messing with the registry) I found windows phone 8 quite shocking, coming from android/windows mobile i'd say its not to bad, but in someways it seems a downgrade. But so far no crashes with the latest update, and i'm hoping it stays that way, but honestly, I have a feeling your issues are isolated.
Also had the chance to use the new nexus 4 the other day, if theres a cover up going on, i'd say its those who say android is smooth and responsive....
I've been using my 920 for a month and haven't encountered any of your problems. The only thing I don't like about my 920 is that there is no app so far to automatically switch phone profile according to time and location.
I'm shocked 2 of you have had no problems. Search Google for any of the problems I listed and you'll find loads of people with the same issues.
Id get another one but I can't afford to keep buying phones when one ****s up. And yea the screens supposed to go black when you put it to your head but it was going black and staying like that so I could end calls, use the num pad, use speaker phone, or any of that. I found a work around but the proximity sensor is supposed to work

Search google for ANY electronic device followed by the keyword 'issue / problem' and you are sure to get pages of results. People that don't have problems (most people) typically don't post about it while people with issues regularly post because they want the issue resolved. This gives an artificial bias to the negative and only reinforces the already tainted view of people in a mindset that something is rubbish.

I agree, since the last update I haven't had very many problems at all. And since I haven't been having issues I haven't been coming to the forums as much. I just come in every once in a while now to see if there's anything new. I'm not constantly hounding for an answer to my problems on a daily basis since I don't have problems. It's my guess that other people who have perfectly working phones would have like minds as me... or just not visit the forums at all.
No bricking during factory reset (had to do it once and I'm not going to do it again just to prove a point).
Battery life is awesome.
Hardware buttons are working fine.
Blank screen during calls isn't an issue for me since the proximity sensor works almost all the time, I think.... at least, it hasn't been a big enough concern for me that I actually notice it.... guess I should keep track of it.

Pre-portico
No stability issues, but craptastic daylight camera and bluetooth connectivity issues
Portico:
Unstable. Reboots at least twice a day.
Good daylight camera
Good bluetooth connectivity.
Think people have to make a choice about the portico.
unstable and functional or stable and unfunctional.

This is also the main thing I'm missing, coming from Nokia N8 the situations was really a great app...
I think Nokia lumia phones in general have a lot of issues, as does Windows Phone. It's just there are so few users even if there was a problem, it would seem isolated. Microsoft's share in the smartphone market didn't even budge at all in 2012. WP users are not power users so they just run back to the store to get an exchange. Even the lumia 920 forum at wpcentral.com is slow as molasses. 90% of the posts are very shallow anyway. Most don't even know what screen size their phone is or what processor its running. the camera is just AMAZING and the phone is PERFECT, over and over again. Of course, this forum isn't any better. The only difference being the plethora of unlock threads, because xda is international.
Your description of WP users is fairly accurate & the market segment MS is going after. The enthusiast market is small & even on Android accounts for a very small % of sales. The easiest way to solve an issue is by exchanging the phone, if you have that option available to you. A lot of issues people are having are either caused by defective hardware or a bad flash IMO, which is an issue on any of the platforms.
Do people not expect bugs and hiccups at launch for these kinds of devices?
It happens. And it's not as bad as you perceive; it's not a conspiracy.
AW: The great Lumia 920 conspiracy.......
If ms allows developers create store accounts for free I bet there would be more apps on store.,.
I get what you guys are saying, but phone busting issues like that black screen on calls and bricking on hard resets shouldn't be common enough to have a thread full of people experiencing them.
If anyone knows of any way to get the phone to read SIM cards again, I'd like your help. I still miss using my lumia 920 :'(

I have experianced just about every issue in this thread. I have users of the 920 I support for other stuff and I see how they basically ignore them as they did on their Blackberry or iPhone. I had the brick issue... news flash as I posted in another thread, it is not bricked!!! use the Nokia Care Suite, gets you going no problem. During my day I may deal with just about every phone they see at an AT&T store (Tmobile, Sprint,or Verizon for that matter)... they all have issues. Have you ever seen an iPhone user change their password on their laptop and not update the iPhone? Lets say you need to get to something before updating that password, like they changed the server setting trying to update it... go ahead try it. Drop calls, Steve Jobs had to properly instruct dumb iPhone users how to hold an iPhone. Andriod, perfect????? WTF are serious?? And becuase of that piece of software, it does not matter what hardware you are talking about.
My phone is limited compared to Andriod, I can agree with that.... but I can do more with fewer Apps and I like that. The 920 has had some hiccups along the way, but the hardware I have right now is as solid as any other phone out there, actually physically a tougher phone then any other top tier phone.

This is exactly what I was trying to get at. These sorts of issues and threads are everywhere for many high profile smartphone launches, especially lately with this insane obsession with HW spec wars.
I've seen much worse, many times, you will not buy a high end smartphone at launch these days without having some sort of worry that there will be a game-breaking bug or defect.
WP 8 for 3 months:
NO ISSUES
POWER USER (i had portico when the first roms were available on navi)
my question is, are all these faulty devices on ATT or another crap american service , cause i think this may be your problem, ive had to work on vodaphone orange tmobile and ee 920's and 820's and i can say with pride that the only issue people have is the lack of popular apps., there is no conspiracy. why the eff are you people needing to hard reset anyway wtf are you doing to your phones?
I have to admit I've been having freezing issues regularly, often when it's just sat on my desk or in my pocket, and almost every night while on USB charge. I've also noticed on the odd occasion a reboot, but only because of my SIM being PIN locked.
Mine was a German Vodafone one, which I flashed on day 1 to the CV_GB ROM, then again to CV_GB Portico ROM. Maybe I'll try a different one, as I've heard the EE one has fewer issues.

Camera Issues

Hey everyone. So asking for a friend that has the phone.
When trying to use the camera app, everything seems to be out of focus, as if it doesn't wanna adjust. Played around with settings, and wiped data/cache.
I've installed another camera app with manual controls of focus, iso and what not, but still the same.
I think he updated it pretty recent because he is running on 8.1.0.
Just asking to see if anyone else is having similar issues.

Here is a post with the same problem:

I think it is a hardware issue and I think they returned the phone for a new one.

Yeah we tried googling around but weren't able to find anything specific for the phone, and we even found ourselves on their fourms too. Lol
Well it looks like this may be the case, I'll be sure to pass along the info over to him.
Thank you!
Camera issues
So I've had this phone since November 7th and when I got it I noticed the camera was pretty good. After I updated it I noticed that there have been some focus issues and some other problems I pretty much got it day one in the USA through shipping. When I first received it it was fine and now after updating it I've noticed some issues. I think this is a software issue. Since I've gotten it I think I've updated it four times and I retested the camera and I've gone through a few settings. It's not the same as when I first used it. So, I don't think this is a hardware issue at all I totally believe this is software problem. Let me know your thoughts.
I just started to have this issue as well. I am not sure if its hardware or software related but the problem seems to have cropped up after my lastest firmware update.
It was me who had this issue, it was related to a defective Laser Autofocus.

@Einheit-101 Did you get any unit replace? Or was it just being fixed?
It has been fixed, not replaced.
