[Q] GT N7000 Phone and USB Storage Issue - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone,
I registered because I can't find the specific answer to my concern.
Anyway, I recently downloaded a file and tried transferring it to my external memory card. After several hours, it gave me an error message saying something like I ran out of space on my USB storage or there is an unwanted file stored. So it shows me a triangle with an exclamation point from the notification bar. I tried reformating USB storage to no avail.
So I then reformatted the entire phone and even tried changing back my ROM to its original version. It worked. Im not seeing the error from the notification bar but i noticed that my USB storage is not doing its part. Seems like all the apps being installed are going to the phone memory alone which makes the device slow in performance. Before this happened, Phone and USB storages work hand and hand.
Is there any cure for this? *i hope*
Thank you in advance!

[Q] Can not mount external SD card

I have rooted my phone using TGA_Gunnman's one-click method.....everything was great - I am pretty sure my phones everyday performance is better now as a result. Of course, all the awesome things I can do now that I have root, make the phone that much better!
Yesterday, after no mods or changes my SD card became nor recognized by the phone. I get an error that the "Mount Point is absent or incorrect. Please unplug USB and try again." Of course I have tried unplugging, restarting, fixing permissions, unrooting, putting in a different SD card, nothing...NO access to SD. I am able to access the SD card from a computer so pretty sure its not the card.
I have searched and searched and searched the forums...I have not found anyone having a similar problem.
Does anyone have any suggested fix....or am I destined to return this handset for a dif one?
Thanks for any and all help.
kstar
So, due to lack of response, I can only assume the phone is faulty, and I will be heading to t-mobile store today.
Or am I really that slow and it is totally obvious?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
did you try restoring the phone to factory settings?
Thanks for the suggestion....but a factory reset did not fix the problem.
I got that EXACT same error yesterday while I was tinkering trying to rename the memory card on the computer and phone. I unmounted it and then it started giving me this error. I DID fix it though I'm not sure WHICH one of the things I did fixed it so I will list everything I did while trying to lol.
1. Remove the card from the phone as it is powered on. Wait a few seconds and re-insert it. See if problem persists.
2. Power down phone, remove memory card. Power back on (without the card). Insert the memory card. See if problem persists.
3. With the phone and card in, attempt to connect to a computer in all 3 modes (Storage, Media Player, etc). See if it still can't mount it after you disconnect from the computer.
4. (I think this may have fixed it but not sure). With the phone on and card in, go into setting-->Applications-->Development-->USB Debugging. CHECK the box "USB debugging". Now connect the phone to your computer. It will warn you its in debugging mode, click ok. Open the notification menu on top when its connected (the one that slides down from top) and MOUNT the memory card + phone memory. Your computer should now recognize 2 new drives. Phone memory and the memory card. After this, disconnect the phone and it SHOULD be able to find the memory card and mount it CORRECTLY, fixing your problem for good.
Let me know if all of these don't work and I'll think if I missed something that I may have done while trying to fix it. It's not your memory card or the phone itself. It's the software which bugged. I wouldn't recommend you return it at all since its not faulty. The new one will do the same.
PS: If NOTHING works and I can't think of the thing that fixed mine, there IS something that WILL fix it guaranteed though I only recommend you do that as a last resort. If you reflash the phone to a different ROM, it will be fixed since the bug is in the software. There is the stock T-Mobile ROM provided on these forums somewhere if you want the same ROM (or as close to it as possible) that came with the phone (aka...as you got it out the box). Otherwise, you can flash into some custom rom (likely having some improvements too). All up to you. Though I only would recommend this if you REALLY have no other option.
Thank you - none of those options helped. I am not able to see the phone memory either. In other words, even when I have it plugged in to the computer and tell it to mount memory to the computer, no drive shows up. So I am unable to access any storage on the phone.
Why would this software issue just show up out of no where? I have had the phone since day 1......
Thank you!!!
Hmm...I was able to see the phone memory at least. Are you sure your phone doesn't even detect the phone memory? Cause that is quite odd. I remember my phone did not detect ANY memory card all the while giving me that message but it DID find its phone memory and could use that. Idk. I played with my phone an a USB cable for half an hour panicked that I did something to my phone or memory card till it finally worked. Your issue MAY be different though. In either case, I don't seem to remember anything else I did with it (maybe combination of those things I was listing? idk). Furthermore your issue may be different, even if related so I suppose start looking into the flashing process. You will need to flash if you want to return it anyway is my guess. So might as well.
I suggest you start looking here:

It's all the Roms for the Vibrant up to date. You will need Clockwork recovery and Odin to flash. The list has the official Tmobile ROM that your phone was shipped with. You can try that. It will return it to FULL stock, making it returnable and very likely fixing it. But if you're feeling adventurous you can try the custom ROMs.
Thanks for all your help - I ended up returning it b/c I didn't have the time to deal with it and have now run into a new problem of apps not installing from the market. They actually install for the first five minutes after wiping the phone, but then the installing was unsuccessful. I got two different replacements today and a new sim card, spent half my afternoon on the phone with 611...still no apps.....
Edit: found the fix for inability to download apps
settings>applications>manage applications>menu>filter, all>download manage>clear data
Of course, on my third vibrant and this is the only one with the menu button lag......i will be patient.....
I just had exactly the same problem with my Galaxy S. The problem was, My internal phone memory was unmounted after flashing a new firmware. Once I mounted it, it worked.
Menu > Settings > SD Card and Phone Storage > Mount SD Card (under Internal SD Card)
This mounted both internal and external cards and I'm now good to go!!
I have this exact same error right now and nothing is working.
Also, I do not have the option of returning the phone because it was a private sale and i bought the phone off of someone. He has the receipt but I wonder what I can do since he paid for it under his credit card and its in his name?
tks }{Alienz}{,
I got this can not mount external sd card message and following your step 2, it`s working now! just to remember, step 2 is:
2. Power down phone, remove memory card. Power back on (without the card). Insert the memory card.

Samsung vibrant unrooted yet =]
I had the same problem and #2 worked for me as well. Thank you!
I have a similar problem. I flashed axura and since then when I plug in my phone It never gives me the option to mount my phone. Has anyone found a fix for this?
- took the longest time to fix this. anyone having the same problem. i fixed it by getting a samsung usb cord. for whatever reason my phone wouldnt realize it was connected to the computer without it

Odin + 512.pit + t959UVJFD.tar
go back to stock jfd build 2.1

Argh... 2nd time this happened.

I dont really know what happened to the phone but for some reason, USB debugging and usb mass storage mounting has been disabled. It works fine in all other aspects except these two.
The first time it happened, it was fresh from a repair for not turning on anymore... That was easily fixed by LG within a day. The tech dude said something about "software upgrading".
The second time it happened, i was installing new apps straight to the SD and it wouldnt finish for like 10 minutes. So i turned it off and on again. Now everything found on my SD card wouldnt load and Settings would force close on me when I try to make it show all the apps on my phone.
I was wondering if this is a problem with apps2sd which I used... Maybe my memory card is too slow (class2) for the phone to install directly to it. Does anyone know what happened?
Hello
I used app2sd and my phone rebooted for no reason. Now after uninstalling it works fine. The unmount issue is common to P500. Probably it will be fixed on Gingerbread firmware.
So I'll have to hold off on customizing my phone until Gingerbread? =c
Guess I'll have to stick to phone memory for the apps not movable to the Sd on their own...
Also, I believe my problem goes beyond just the unmounting issue... I'll try to have the phone reformat the card when I get it back (soon I hope... I already sent it to LG)
It wouldnt show me that USB debugging and mass storage mounting is on even though those are checked on the Settings screen. When I connected the USB cable before with those settings on, there would be 2 icons on the notification bar that indicates that the two are working. I dont get those 2 icons now...
I'll try to have FroYo move the apps to SD after installing to phone memory when I get it back. Maybe that will solve the "taking forever to install" issue.
I hope the SD card reformatting by the phone would solve the slow SD card loading issue.
Which would leave the USB debugging and mass storage mounting issue... T__T
I don't really have the sudden SD card unmounting problem....

stock Gallery having issues on 211? SOLVED

well i just got done manually updating to the 211 ota and when i open mygallery it keeps saying it cant access files while in mass storage mode, but the phones not connected to anything. i've already tried rebooting and plugging in then unplugging the cable to the computer. is there anything else i can try besides a factory reset?
edit: this got fixed when i decided to format the internal SD card since it was saying blank storage, the two were tied together somehow.

[Q] Help please! How to force mass storage mode on non-booting LY-F1?

Hi,
I have a generic LY-F1 Allwinner tablet which was working fine until a week ago. Now, however, it won't boot past the glowing Android screen. I've left it for five or six hours with no progress, so I guess the ROM is corrupted. Is there any other way to fix this other than flashing a new ROM?
However, the main problem with this tablet is that it does not automatically enter mass storage mode when plugged into a laptop, so I have no way to rescue my content. I can see the drives in Windows (one for the internal SD, one for the SD slot) but they are not usable (they result in an 'insert media' message)
Is there a way to force mass storage mode so that I can remove my data in preparation to reflash it? I'm sure I read of a command line method to get into the internal SD card? Or was I imagining it?
Any help most welcome!
Anyone at all? I could really do with getting this sorted over the weekend if possible, so any help much appreciated!

[Q] Can't connect my tablet (CM7) to PC via usb

Hello everyone. I've searched around and cannot find anything similar to my problem, so I'm asking here.
I've just installed CyanogenMod 7 (Degu) on my Archos 70 IT (aka Prestigio PMP7070C) tablet, and now I can't connect the tablet to my PC. When I plug in the USB cable, the screen flashes with the USB mounting interface for a brief moment, and then it gets back to home screen. The status bar tells me "USB connected; Select to copy files to/from your computer." But when I tap on it, the same thing happens - the mounting screen appears for a split second, and then it crashes.
Is this supposed to be happening? I haven't found anywhere in the documentation that the USB link is broken. Moreover, it works flawlessly in the stock ROM. If it's not supposed to be happening, how can I fix it? Did I do something wrong?
UPDATE: I've tried formatting the internal storage once more and installing the CM7 again from scratch. What I've noticed now is that, before I install Google Apps, the mounting screen appears when I plug the USB cable in. It doesn't, however, do anything (if I tap "Mount USB storage", it just does nothing for a while, and then returns to home screen). After installing the Google Apps, I can't even get to that screen anymore (the situation is the same as described above). Any leads to that?
Any ideas or advice would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Yes, I have a microSD card on the tablet. However, it doesn't mount either. I cannot mount anything, since the mounting screen just disappears as soon as it opens.
I understand the image and data are on the internal memory, and I accept that I won't be able to access the remainder of those 8 GiB which my Archos has. The microSD card has 16 GiB memory, anyway, which is enough(ish) for my needs. But I cannot access it
Any other leads? Thanks for your engagement
OK, a quick update (and sorry for bumping the thread, I hope it's not too much of a problem).
I've managed to access my microSD card via USB on my Archos Gen8... sort of.
USB mounting works if I connect the tablet to my PC before booting cm7. I.e., If cm7 boots while the USB cable is already connected, I can then mount it and access the microSD card.
I've read through the official Archos Gen7/Gen8 cyanogenmod7 Degu release thread once again, and I've noticed more than one person reporting USB doesn't work, and divx118 also stating that it's not completely polished yet. I am, however not sure if this (i.e. my problem from the starting post) is what they mean. If it is, I'd like to inform people of the "workaround" I've come across (I am, however, not able to post in that thread).
And if it isn't the same problem, then I'd appreciate any ideas or opinions regarding why this is happening apparently to me alone.
Thanks everyone and many thanks to divx118 for his awesome work!

You're welcome, as long as it helps. I hope someone of the "big guys" sees it, if it's important.
