I meant in genral but for now I am building for Samsung GT-S5302

Ok, but there is no universal stock kernel. A stock kernel on a Samsung device would be the kernel that ships with the Touchwiz ROM, or the stock kernel on an HTC device would be the kernel that ships with the Sense ROM. Basically what I'm saying is the stock kernel is specific to the device you're building for. I don't have your answer, I'm just trying to clear it up for the people that come into this thread that do have the answer.

I updated Micromax Funbook Infinity P275 with CynogenMod 10 by reading instructions at the below link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=46067975&postcount=2
Everything went fine except 3 things.
1. I am not able to see the Volume Up and Down Icon as it was there in my stock rom. Where do I find this.
2. I am not able to browse to my internal card. In stock ROM i use to copy files frequently to and from phone memory and external memory. I can see it though in device information.
3. When will camera fix be out?
Even I had NoVoTools installed which vanished after firmware update
Please help
Thanks

Read the first page of the thread for the kernel you want to try. That will tell you which roms it's compatible with.
No suggestions. Reasons being you use your phone differently to everyone else, have it set up differently & no two phones come out of the factory the same. So you won't have exactly the same experience as me with a given rom or kernel. Also, many people who are users of a particular rom or kernel end up being total fanboys, rendering their opinion on same biased/meaningless.
So...Try out a bunch of roms/kernels until you find one you like. With CWM, it's so easy to backup/restore & flash roms/kernels there's no excuse for you not trying a bunch out for yourself.
Thanks man

[Q] make a ocs compatible kernel

For my main device we are trying to make a ics port (my device is the yp-g1) but were struggling on the kernel and ive seen a lot of people talking about modifying a gb 2.6.x kernel to work like a 3.x kernel for ics does that mean modifying a gb kernel?
How would we do that? Can u point me to a guide for this

No duh? From his post I'd say that's what he is trying to do.
@OP If you really wanted to take on a project you could look at patching your 2.6.x kernel to a 3.0 version. I don't think you are going to find a 10 step guide to porting the kernel if that's what you are looking for though.
Sent from my SCH-R760 using Tapatalk 2
Okay
I guess that that means taking a gb kernel and changing it but what would be needed to patch any ideas?
I asked a guy a while back and he said something about adding last-ksmeg, dsmg and ksmeg or something like that to an existing 2.6x kernel I asked him how I'd do that but got no reply.

Lol. Chris Walken for the win. To the op-these threads are discouraged. Just try for yourself. We try not to compare Roms here as everybody like something different.

Kinda Noobie here
hello,
2 month back i brought unlocked i777 from ebay. It got rooted and unlocked with Android version 2.3.4, baseband i777UCKH7 and kernel version 2.6.35.7.
It got super user app (so i think its rooted). But the CMW is not installed. i checked in recovery mode (it show some android recovery).
So now i m thinkin of installing the latest AOKP ROM (with siyah kernel) but not sure wat to flash first.
should i root again first (root + CWM) then install AOKP. then change the kernel.
or root then kernel then AOKP ?
also i m confuse which root method should i use for installing CWM in gingerbread .

Please make sure you're running a safe kernel otherwise you'll brick your phone.
i read that guide thread .. as my phone got Superuser, i m using the Mobile odin method [http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1311081].
As i m on gingerbread, i need to use gingerbread kernel to install clockwork model. i.e Entropy512's Daily Driver or Siyah 2.6.
but i wanna intall ICS rom , so after installing siyah 2.6 should is flash with latest AOKP on it ? will siyah 2.6 support the latest AOKP ?

Install kernel with cwm.
Boot to recovery and install aokp rom
Done
Every rom install contains a kernel that works with the rom. Doesn't matter what you had before.

Help flashing Jellybam jb 4.2.1 status 7 error

Im using the Siyah-I777-v7.6.4-S kernal and did the norm whipe and all the cachs and such downloaded the rom 3-4 times on pc on phone directly and still get the error no matter what any help would be great thanks if you can tell me what kernel you are useing with this rom and were to get it thanks.
you have posted in the wrong section for one. to get rid of that error you need to odin back to stock and then root it and have cwm. then flash again. no other way of doing it. you could have asked in the jellybam thread. it has already been stated how to do it.

It's an error with the build prop. When I went from JellyBam to Avatar ROM I had the same issue. I fixed the build prop, and deleted the assert in the updater script

Might be a dumb question but is that the same kernel that came with thw rom? I had to wipe my phobe last night and reinstall an old rom to get a new one on there because I tried using a different kernel and I started getting a boot loop

Wouldn't be, that kernel was made by AJ for Sammy JB ROMs.
Sent from my SGH-I777 using xda app-developers app
so i can using the same kernel i installed get hte shosock rom to work but i can not get this one to work i even reinstalled the task650 aokp rom and then did the whip and all that and still can not this rom to install my problem and the reason im going from the task 650 rom to a different one is battery life with the task650 my battery would drop like a percent a min and was killing me i want to have a JB 4.2.1 rom would like the multi window option like shoshock rom but i love the aokp stuff so any other rom options with kernals would be wonderful or mods but currently im got the sohshock rom on it 4.2.1 NS WILL GIVE IT A TRY FOR A WILE AND SEE HOW THAT WORKS i dont think im going to stay with it thow cus there not that much to change to customize .

That is not correct. It is made for CM based ROMs and made to work on Samsung JB ROMs as a plus.
And this is in the wrong section.....please move this to the Q&A section.

[Q] Kernel Question

Sorry for the noob question in advance.
I flashed my ATT HTC One with the Cyanogen Mod 10.2. Do I have to also update the kernel or the Cyanogen Mod ROM has updates the kernel at the same time.
It's a rom so obviously it has the kernel installed already, how do you think you got it to run in the first place?

I'm completely new to this stuff. Just that the kernel has been on 3.4.10 for awhile and was wondering if it was using the same one from before.
