Why would they disable tap to pay, and is this something we can un**** with custom roms?

Because Verizon always wants a piece of the pie no matter what. Google Wallet doesn't benefit them. Instead, they tried to get in with other carriers to create Isis, which is the same technology. Problem is that Isis is pretty much dead in the water, but Verizon won't give on to that reality, so they block the feature. With root, yes it is possible to use Google Wallet tap to pay. I did on my Galaxy S3.

Isis is coming out with a different reload able card. Not to sure of the details, but apparently they are revamping everything in anticipation of a nationwide release. Hopefully it will be something that I can use instead of having to start an account with Chase or American Express

I'd assume you would need a custom ROM that the dev has modified to allows all NFC related functions

Please op change the tittle of your post gets me every time thinking that Google wallet is actually working thanks.

It can be done on the S3, S4 and Note 2 currently with root. In theory it could still work on the Note 3. Its just a simple edit of the build.prop to another device model, install and setup wallet, then change the model number back.
(Not tested on Note 3. I havent tried so plz dont say that i said it could be done)

I tried the build prop trick on Galaxy Note 3 and it fails. I edited the build prop with no problem but when you open the Wallet app it gives the following error.....
Insufficient secure element privileges for this system image. (release-keys)
NOTE: I did swap my SIM card from my Note 2 to the Note 3 so I could use my most common phone number with the new device. I have not tried this trick with the pre-installed SIM card.

Changing the build prop is only half the fix you would need libs from either a sprint note 3 ROM. Once we get a recovery I will make a lib fix zip just as I did for the Verizon note 2.

Don't really need a flash file for this as you can manually place all the files as well. As far as I know though the Note 3 is missing the secure element to make this possible.

I sure the note 3 has a secure element ISIS uses the secure element and that works for tap to pay.

Google Wallet Working on any ROM?

So I know obviously Wallet isn't working for the stock ROM, but I was wondering if there was any ROM for the DNA that it worked for, or is this a much deeper problem than that?
Thanks for your time!
My friend, there is a Q&A section for a reason.

The problem appears to be much deaper. Google wallet needs a secure element,(and it appears this phone doesn't have necessary component(s). Also it has been reported the nfc isn't compatible. Probably never happen for this phone unless Google makes a drastic change in approach. (probably won't happen).

I'm missing my Google wallet too (since I switched from the Galaxy Nexus), so I've done a bit of research.
As near as I can tell, ISIS could work on this phone, by way of a sim card with the secure element built in. The NFC in the DNA is programmed by HTC to look for a secure element on the sim card. If you manage to get a sim card from Verizon w/ the secure element, ISIS has a key to unlock the secure element on a SIM, but Google Wallet doesn't.
I would be surprised if the phone didn't also have a secure element, but unfortunately the o/s as released from HTC is programmed to look for a secure element on the SIM card instead.
I booted up the cm10, installed the modified Google Wallet that other users (like the s3) have been using, however a logcat reveals that Wallet is still unable to find a secure element
I'd like to get a hold of one of these nfc Sims. I am going to call tomorrow

This is all starting to make more sense. A good friend (and android developer) said he can't find a secure element on this phone, and doesn't have time to look any further. If it were built into a SIM then that part of the puzzle would be solved, but then making Google wallet work would still be a chore, but hopefully not impossible.

You might try comparing the nfcaccess.xml from the /etc directory. The DNA comes with a nfcaccess.xml file that has key for isis. The s3 hack replaces the nfcaccess.xml file with a sprint nfcaccess.xml that has a key for wallet instead of ISIS. You might want to try replacing the original DNA nfcaccess.xml file with one from a sprint device. Or possibly putting both keys into a file.

I got to this point last night also. It installs and opens fine but hangs because it can't find the secure element. I edited the nfcee_access.xml as jasoraso suggested and copied the signature for wallet from my Nexus. I have a few other ideas that I'm going to try for now but most likely it will need the nfc sim to initialize.

Same here; last info I've heard as I understand it is that the AT&T HTC One does not have the Secure Element enabled. I'm not sure if there's a workaround, but I'm searching for answers. It has been suggested that a new ROM with the secure element enabled might help, but I don't know of any (but I am far from an expert

I think It may. The sprint version actually has gsm radios with 3g and lte. So As the international and t-mobile and att version are all the same boards it is not a big stretch to say that the sprint board may be the same too or have the same major components. I think we will have a hack for wallet at some point.

Hey guys, just dropping by from the DNA forum. For anyone interested I would keep an eye on this site...
http://www.simplytapp.com/
Tapp works different then Google Wallet, as in it doesn't require an embedded secure element. There was an older version of Tapp released in the play store when CyanogenMod 9 was released, but they are currently working on a newer version. I was able to get in touch with a member of the Tapp team, and was informed that the project is still on track!
Until Google decides to make some major changes to how Google Wallet functions with the secure element, then we won't be seeing GW on the DNA or the One series ( aside from sprint).

If someone can rewrite wallet to make it work without an SE then more power to them. I would love to see it happen. Most of the hacks and work arounds have involved build.prop changes, and libs from a sprint variant to make wallet function correctly. So far that appears to not be the case anymore. Google them selves said with the release of the Google Edition HTC One that it does not have an embedded secure element, thus it cannot be used with Google Wallet.
It's a ****ty situation for HTC devices. Either HTC needs to ship secure elements on there phones or Google needs to allow Wallet to work without one.
Hopefully with apps like SimplyTapp, this will force some much needed change in this area!

I know on other models of the phones you could get around the initial setup of the application by changing the build.prop to the verizion galaxy nexus. Then one the app was installed and setup you could revert the build.prop change so you would get normal suggestions for compatible apps on the play store.
Not sure if this works on the GS4 but it has on other NFC enabled Verizon phones.

I was able to install ISIS 2.00.01 build 08.50 from the link below. After I installed it, said it couldn't run because the phone is rooted. I then install the ISIS Root Bypass 2.0 from the above link. Rebooted. Then was able to run and setup ISIS. Just have to try it at a store to see if it works.

google wallet

It looks like the note 3's dont have a secure element chip and therefor none of the google wallet mods will enable tap to pay for us. looks like isis wins this battle

The secure element is on your new SIM that came with the device.
So if you change your sim you don't get nfc?

Ya unfortunately that nfc secure element used for isis is from our sim card. Verizon definitely blocked google from accessing the secure element on the sim

Wow, this really sucks since the Best Buy rep took mine out and replaced it with their normal sim so it was easier for him. Can I get this OEM sim from Verizon?

I used my old sim from my Galaxy S4. Will that work with a wallet mod? I do have the new sim that came with the phone still. They look exactly the same.

right now the odds of google wallet tap to pay are slim to none. as for isis you need a secure element chip or sim I believe

You'll know if the SIM card is secure-element-ready (for Isis Mobile) if its the fully white sim card. The old ones are half red and half white, they do not contain the secure element. But neither will work for Google Wallet.
Verizon is so lame. Trying to punish Google when Google is the reason they sell a million smartphones a month

Yes the new SIM has the NFC. So Google Wallet won't work for us? VZW is really starting to piss me off

So here's an update to the above. I went back to Best Buy and after explaining what had happened, they were very kind and helpful to give me a sim card from another of their Note 3's from their stock. Evidently the card taken out of my was discarded somehow.
So can anyone tell me what happens when I try to activate this sim card? Will I be charged another activation fee? What will the swap affect on my phone? Should I expect any flack from Verizon after explaining what happened?

i actually work at Best Buy and you wont get an activation fee or upgrade fee. Doing a hardware swap is free and can be done multiple times in a day if needed. You actually can do it all online if needed through your verizon account.
The only time you will get a fee for activating a phone is if your are switching carriers to start up a new line or if you upgrade. It used to be called a contract fee because the fee only applies when signing a contract. however they changed the pricing on it so now the new line fee is $35 and the upgrade fee is $30.
