LG G2 Drop test. - G2 General

Well some of you probably waiting for this.
To keep it short:
Back drop - OK
Side drop - Fatal
Probably due to thin bezel, but we all know the risk when we brought this phone right?

yeah, looks like that thin bezel doesn't fare well on accidental drops..
thats why i ordered my Spigen Slim Armor for good reason..

Pretty much any phone will shatter the display if it lands on the side or bottom, most if not all phone are edge to edge glass these days which doesn't help.

Hmm think it does fairly poorly. Note 3 only cracked on direct drop, not from corner hit.
Also it stops working early. This is definitely not a rugged phone.

This is totally random. 100%. And these phones aren't made to be dropped from those heights either. If you are an bad user, you buy something thats made to take a few hits. Not phones like these, these should be used with care, not childish or stupid actions.

How can we be sure that this is true not fake?
The video has been edited and was taken from different angles.
To believe it we should see a video capturing the phone falling from the hands to the ground than he should turn it on immediately without editing

I think the ground bashed the phone enough that he didn't have to.

There is nothing scientific to it people. Even with all the camera angles you guys mentioned. Someone will still cry foul when it doesn't fall exactly right.
This phone looks fragile enough for it to be believed that it will break on the first fall.
-LG G2

Almost any phone if it hits just right will shatter. Its all about force. Hitting it on the corner or a small area will produce more force as its not distributed, like laying on a bed of nails as opposed to stepping on a single nail. These are all glass screens, gorilla or not. Never seen a phone that I cant find one drop test where the screen doesnt have some damage...so lets see what flexible "non-glass" displays can do...

Exactly, if I was going to buy a phone based on the drop test I would still have a Nokia 3310.

If you consider life an extended drop test, my RAZR has survived amazingly well. To be honest, I don't know how the screen hasn't been broken. I remember when I first got it, I was afraid it would break easily from flexing because it was so thin. It never did. I even started throwing it 10 ft. in the air and letting it land on concrete and asphalt just so I could rub it into my friend's faces that used iPhones. lol, I'm such a jerk.

I gotta say my original Droid Razr seems to be indestructible. Dropped it many times and it only suffered minor scuffs.

I dropped my LG G2 today, I was trying to put it in my coat pocket and missed, so it fell on the floor from waist height and the quick view case came off but no scratch or crack to be found!
Lucky this time...

Kevlar stripe - Flimsy ?

I saw on a video that somebody could easily tear that kevlar piece out from right under the camera... It looks loose and flimsy, and not well stuck on the back of the phone.
Can anyone confirm this by sticking your nail under the weave right under the camera ? Last thing I want is to buy a phone for 600 bucks and have the back tear up on me after a month.

In day to day use this is not going to effect the device in any way.

It's not the kevlar back but the plastic covering on the top (camera/flash/speaker) which can be taken off, possibly revealing some screws. Other than that there seems to be no way to open the device.

This request/observation is just hilarious.
Why not take ANY phone and try to jam an ice pick between the edge of the glass and the phone. Hit it with a hammer.... does anything happen?
Or drop any phone from a really tall building, cause I'd hate to spend $600 on a phone and not have it survive something like.
Maybe put any phone in a blender, cause I'd hate to spend $600 on a phone and not have it blend properly.

Nope, it isn't.
If I get a device and the plastic that covers the screws gets detached easily it's a build flaw. If the Kevlar thing gets detached it's a design flaw. If you drop your phone from a tall building or hit it with an hammer it's a flaw of your brain.
It's different.
I wouldn't pick at my RAZR like that anyways.

I agree. The guy in the vid didn't use force. Come to think of it the OP didn't really meant to use force and try to open the back cover.
The cover we know is kevlar and durable. The material witch glues it on the phone how durable is it?
Tbh im in love with the back cover of the phone. I'd never put a cover/case on it. I wouldn't want to put one out of need( safe sex suxx )
Obviously, DrUnKenSTeiN is probably the only intelligent human on this post.
Where did anyone here read that I want you to remove the cover or bash it with a hammer ?
All I asked was to see if that thing is flimsy and all I got was raw violence by some members who probably have Attention deficit disorder (syntrix, ianford)
When I asked once if a certain laptop was flimsy, one intelligent human pressed on the lid lightly, checked for keyboard flex, and gave me his opinion.
You may say it's not important for daily use, but so does Android OS or a large screen. A smartphone can be productive without them, but this is not what discussion boards are about.
You may be excused to feel embarrassed, thanks.

Would just like to confirm that the phone in the video DOES have a defect. With all the force in the world I couldn't even get my fingernail under the Kevlar, let alone pry it up. He did it with no effort, like it was hanging off. Mine is sealed so tight (top, bottom and along the sides) you couldn't do anything to it if you tried.

If your phone is sealed then its not something that all razrs got. Seems like a flaw in the specific device.
Its important for guys that have bought the phone and its defective that they wont think that ,this is how the phone is.

I messed around with 4 RAZR's today at three different stores. I even took out a penny that was scarred and I was not able to even scuff the Kevlar. It's on there on all the edges and sides REALLY REALLY good. And, that Kevlar is REALLY durable.
The one in the VIDEO MUST BE DEFECT.

[Q] Would this screen crack be covered under warranty?

Hey guys,
I woke up this morning to check my alarm and i got so shocked that i fully woke up. I noticed a small crack below the home buttom. I have NO IDEA how it happened. I would appreciate any expert opinion if this would be covered under Samsung warranty.
Thanks

It's my understanding if you are willing to pay you can return it. I know if you were on Verizon you could return the phone within the first month and then "repurchase" the exact same device.
On a side note, there has to be something horribly wrong with Gorilla Glass 2. I foresee a recall coming...

Do you have any evidence of that? From the video's and articles I read about the s3 and gorilla glass (2) there is nothing wrong with it. The new design of the S3 (thin bezzle) makes is more "fragile" but also smaller, lighter and more usable in one hand.
So rather get a bumper / case (like many iPhone users have been forced to do)...
I have just been following this site and several others in my spare time and it seems like a lot of breakage for GG2. Considering the stuff is supposed to be stronger than its predecessor, it doesn't seem to be handling the abuse (or most cases lack there of) too well.

Wow that sucks! But definitely looks like it fell. I dont think its just gorilla glass 2 tho, the build of this device is just not as solid as the s2. I even managed to scratch the paint on the bottom white button on the first day using the S3. Thought it was dust and then when i realized it was chipped paint i was pretty furious at myself!

Cracked screen issue
I purchased S3 for myself and have had it for 2 weeks with no issues. My wife saw the phone and said she wanted one as well. So, I ordered it. We received it, charged it, and then activated the phone. She put it back on the charger before she went to bed. Got up in the morning put it in her padded phone pouch in her purse and ran to the store. She went to call me from the store and noticed a crack in the screen from the earpiece to volume button on the phone. She said she did not drop or bang it on anything. Needless to say she returned the phone no questions asked by AT&T and bought the iPhone 4S instead because she did not want to have to worry about the screen breaking for no apparent reason. The one thing I did notice on her S3 was where the screen meets the case. There seemed to be a glass grit or dust in the crack around 2/3 rds of the perimeter screen. My S3 did not have that.

Has anyone dropped their phone yet?

Just curious, when I was researching which phone to buy I read some posts from other carrier forums that screens tend to break very easily from short distances or even in a pocket. Havent seen posts for VZ yet. Im very careful with this probably too careful

Haven't broken the screen but the frame of this phone is crap coming from Motorola. It's hit the ground twice from less than 3 feet and has 3 rather large dents in the housing. Once was falling off the seat in my car to a rubber all season floor mat which shouldn't do crap but left a dent. I'll give samsung the nod on internal hardware but the chassis is awful. A friend of mine dropped his from about waist high onto the edge and shattered his screen.

I have a pretty extensive history with Motorola and have come to the same conclusion. I had my phone on my bed and accidentally dropped my belt on the top right corner of the phone and it left a noticeable indention. I immediately went out and bought a case for the phone even though I've never worried about one with any previous phone.

I carry my new phones around like they're a newborn child, won't put it in a pocket that has anything else in it or near the desk/nightstand edges. It's all about minimizing risks - like not trying to carry too many things at once.
With that being said, there's a 100% chance I'll drop this phone at some point. My GS3 survived a couple major drops with a few small dents in the corner .... as much as I like the look/feel of the GS4 a million times more than the GS3, I feel like the reduced bezel size and straight/rigid edges won't be as durable.
Get a case guys!

I just got a Spigen Neo Hybrid case. It's slim and sexy, but now I'm concerned it won't offer much protection for anything but the shortest falls. I'll have to check out this one.
I got mine on release day, and haven't dropped it once. I carried it for a few days with no case to enjoy the slim profile of the phone. Bought an Incipio case for it and seems to do the job. Of course like I said... haven't dropped it. I plan on picking up that Neo Hybrid as well, its gorgeous! :good::highfive:

Accidentally dropped my Edge

I f*cked up. I f*cked up real bad. I was in the bathroom and I decided to take my Edge's cover off cause I didn't want my phone to overheat while I was playing DS games to keep myself entertained as I waited for my cousin to bring me some rolls of toilet paper. As soon as she left, I gently put my Edge ON the cover itself.. I tried to pick the cover up for some reason and boom. It slid off and fell from ABOUT 50cms (It fell from the corner of my bath tub). It also made a 360° in the air and landed flat on the screen. Let's just say I needed some more toilet paper at that point. I picked it up and checked EVERY single nook and cranny and it doesn't seem to be damaged. Should I be looking at a particular spot ? Should I just send it to Samsung since I'm paranoid as f*ck ?
Now, this happened with my Nexus 4 as well. A caseless Nexus 4. Around 10-12 times. Landed on the back about half the time and after 2-3 years I still can't find a single crack on it. The Edge's glass is stronger than the Nexus 4's, right ?

The galaxy S6 edge is made of the strongest glass on the market.
Unless you see actual damage, don't panic.
I have dropped my S6 Edge several times since I bought it.
I have even smashed it face first against my bedframe.
The only damage it sustained after the torture is superficial scratches on the earpiece
You want to send it to Samsung and you expect them to do what exactly? If anything, they will tell you you're not covered because of physical damage.
Gorilla glass 4 or not, every single drop is different and gives different results. You can drop your edge from 6 feet in the air and nothing might happen, somebody else can drop it from 2 feet and crack it. It all depends of landing, material of floor, phone temperature, pre-existing defects or user made damage not visible but that can play a role in a drop.
Best thing to do is be more careful. You've dropped your Nexus 4 more times than i've ever dropped any other electronic i've owned. I remember dropping my Note 4 once because i was a little tipsy and put it on my lap and got up, besides that, it never happened and I never have any case, always full nude except for a glass screen protector if my phone is compatible.

Should this thread be closed for being the most pointless thread on XDA?

Tempered glass protection is not so important.
It is better than what is available for the S6 edge,
yet far more expensive than it is worth

There is, isn't there?
Dropped mine on a tiled concrete floor last week from waist height, bounced on the corner and that face down on the screen.
I assumed it was a goner but fortunately only the corner was dented a little screen was fine.
I dropped mine from about 75cm onto a pavement (side of a restaurant table), and the screen cracked in 3 places. Just got a replacement screen at the Galaxy Studio today. $250 later, looks shiny again. Now got a Samsung Clear Cover to protect the thing, annoys me as I hate covers.
No toilet paper involved in my story, sadly
I'm wondering though if a drop under the same circumstances would affect performance or internals. I dropped my S6 Edge from my bed while asleep which was the second time I had ever dropped it ever, and in both instances, it was naked and dropped from roughly the same height. I was hoping someone could confirm my worries or relieve me of them, please. I'm just as much paranoid as f*ck.

my 6P is Warped

While placing my 6P flat on my desk I noticed it isn't siting flat. I can push on the top left corner and it raises the bottom right corner. Anyone else notice any sort of bending / warping? does it with or without case.
Phone still works but makes me question the build quality. Guess I'm too used to Moto's durability..

I have a SLIGHT warp on the bottom right of the phone. I called Huawei about it and they said it was covered by the manufacturer warranty. In my case it's not really that bad so I have no reason to RMA. But I will should it get worse. So far it hasn't.

It's been discussed in other bend treads.
Seems like all of them are like that. You can make it straight by pushing it opposite way.
Happens to me after keeping the phone in front jeans pocket.
Happened when tried to take a spigen case off.

Well you might have some luck with that, be very very careful doing that. That's a quick way to get a cracked screen. I know Gorilla Glass has a lot of flex in it and isn't the most brittle thing in the world, but it's still glass. Just my two cents, I haven't had this issue, but I will be keeping an eye on it as well.

I have done it at least 10 times now
I push very gently, no way the screen can crack with this little force GG4 is much more flexible tha n GG3 so should be OK

That is the main reason I'm thinking of returning mine. My first 6P bent around the power button. My replacement has been fine, I've kept it in the speck case Google sells, but still a phone( metal or not) shouldn't warp from being used or being stored in the front pocket. Should we really be having to un-warp our phones? It's not normal.

My 6P is perfectly flat when face down on a granite countertop with no case.
If this was the iPhone that bent like this, alot of the android fan boys would be up in arms saying how much apple sucks, but since it's android we are willing to unbend our phones. Doesn't make alot of sense
I know it doesn't.
But comparing the way iPhone bent to Nexus is a bit different. Iphone bent quite badly. To be honest if my screen protector didn't peel on one side when I took my phone out of the pocket I would never thought to check if its bent lol
It does not affect everyday use by any way. Nor you can see it.
Note: it was first couple of hours since protector was applied that's why it peeled. Doesn't happen anymore
Saying that all are like that I meant they all prone to that slight body movement.

exactly. enough said.
This is unacceptable, and we shouldn't be okay with it, or accepting it.
I mean it's a great looking phone, but by no means is the build quailty great. Kinda of like IKEA stuff, looks good, but not really that strong.
i noticed mine had a slight torque to it. it hasn't bothered me enough to do anything about it. i'm thinking one week before the protect expires i'll be buying a $79 N6P.

My OnePlus One is also warped like this, in fact I have had 2 OPOs, and both have done this.

Then upload a 5 seconds video showing the issue you have.
I'm not saying I have an issue! Nowhere do I say that. The previous 6P I had was bent around the power button, which I took photos of in another thread on this forum. I'm saying that alot of folks are complaining About the softness of the metal , which I have experienced first hand, which is also why I use the speck case now and I'm saying that it's not right that this phone is so soft. Check the other threads and you will see my photos.

I don't know if my OPO was slightly bend. Never looked for it and never checked.
That's what I meant before, most people don't even know their phone is slightly bend cause they don't look for it. They don't notice it since it does not affect everyday use
