My Note 3 Story. - Verizon Galaxy Note 3 General

::This mystical tale starts off with tragedy as most do. There I was enjoying my time at an anime convention. I was attending a room party sipping some wonderful homemade wine. My wonderful shiny Galaxy S4 pumping out music into the small radio on the night stand, while attached to a charger, as that little thing drains power faster than the energizer bunny! I walk outside to the poolside patio to partake in a puff of hookah and alas when I return merely one minute later someone had snatched up my phone and charger (All people I trusted...not doing that again)! Needless to say I freaked getting on the next computer I saw to try to locate my phone using Avast Anti-Theft (Never using it again) apparently the web console said that it wasn't installed when it was. My poor phone still on with 20% battery ringing with every call I give. Lost. Gone. Unable to be located. (Google backup codes missing from my wallet...it was a bad night).
::Anyway enough rambling about missing phones. I decide to turn this tragedy into a win...The wonderful Note 3 is coming out I thought! I shall wait to acquire it, its only a week off! So there I was, yesterday, heading to the Verizon store in Paradise Valley, Arizona. As I walked in the doors something magical was going on inside....a release party for the Note 3! There were attractive women and men giving tours of the Note 3 + Gear and handing out free stuff. I was swiftly handed a bag and given my first item a Galaxy Note 3 branded thermal cup (The clear ones that you see everywhere). This kinda makes up for some stuff I thought to myself, this stuff is cool! I also proclaimed to the person in charge that I was here to purchase a Note 3. I went over to the rep area after getting other items from the people around the room including two 4GB branded thumb-dives, two headphone splitters, and two microfiber cleaning clothes and a phone holder for your desk. This is where things get amazing....apparently this store unknown to me was a new corporate flagship or something and the first 25 people got free Galaxy Gears....I was number 25! After I finished up getting the phone the woman comes over with a galaxy gear backpack and hands me it and the Gear inside.
I think that makes up for my S4 getting stolen....
:: TLDR: Got a free Galaxy Gear.

Nope this is James K.

Great story; congrats. I lost my phone a few months ago and it was the worse feeling EVER. Glad things worked out great for you. Try Norton Security Antivirus. You can track your lost phone and do remote wipe. Pretty good.

Nah I'm just gonna get my backup codes printed properly and lamented and use Google's Android Device Manager. Nortons always left a bad taste in my mouth. Should check it out it looks spiffy.

What are these backup codes you guys are talking about?

The negative to your positive
My story is so completely and entirely opposite of the OP story... it's the negative of his positive...
I was waiting for this phone for a long, long time.... coming off a two year old DROID Bionic that never had a single problem... perfect condition... never had a scratch... and I hated it... it was slow and sluggish and was never gonna see another update.
I was on in store preorder from day one and the waiting was painful... I was on the note 3 xda forum everyday like a stalker, listening to all the cool stories about the releases going on other networks and watching all the YouTube reviews and unboxings... then... finally... Our launch day came on Thursday and my FedEx tracking showed delivered at 10 am or so.... I went flying down there at 3:30 right after work and there were two customers and two workers in the store... walked around waiting for a salesman to get free and noticed... There was no display... no note 3 to play around with while I waited... then I heard "can I help you sir?"..... "yeah... I'm here to pick up my preorder note 3"... dude says... "oh cool... I wanna see that"
Long story short, he goes and grabs the box and comes out... starts pulling the cover off the box and I give him my speech about "don't do that... I just payed a lot of money for that and ain't nobody touching it but me".... He smiles and gives me the "know it all" look and we do the whole activation dance and whatever... During the process he tells me that was his one chance to play with the phone and I screwed it up...
TLDR: I was the Galaxy Note 3 launch event in Fort Pierce Florida

Very cool story OP. There was absolutely no fanfare around my experience. Was the only person in there for the phone and a nice guy helped me out. Took about an hour to get in and out the door. No party. No giveaways. Glad I got this phone though, and interested to talk to people who got the Gear. Not seeing a dedicated section for it. Seems to have so much potential, but I wonder if it will get very much attention at all.

Me and my family could really use some help and support

I just need to vent. I know this is a technology site but I really need to put this out there.
As some of you know I work a few jobs in the EMS field as a paramedic and instructor. Recently my wife has been diagnosed with graves disease and type 1 diabetes. I am trying to be supportive for her but with everything we have been threw in our marriage I am having trouble carrying everything on my shoulders. I am trying to be the rock for her and put all my needs aside to take care of my wonderful wife. I just needed an outlet and the xda photon group has been wounderful. Thanks in advance to everyone. When things do hopefully get better I will try to come back to themeing and learning how to dev. I will still try to test as I can.
Thanks again everyone and sorry for any misspellings miss use of franker and rambeling. My mind is all over the place. I am use to acute medical emergiences not chronic and have to do a lot of studying and thinking process reform.

#2. Family first. F**k everyone else. I have not personally been in your shoes, but I watched a good friend give in to cancer. (I will never do that again)
#3. I dont have 3 jobs, I have one but it feels like it sometimes. Those 2 and 3 AM calls are a *****.
#4. I'm sure you have SOME downtime at the job, read as much as you can! become knowledgable and see where it goes...........(hell, Im at work bored. Let me see if I can find a book on the market)
Good Luck!

As a fellow Medic, I feel your pain.
On April 20, 2010 our lives changed forever. First mowing of the season, the landlord had some work done in both yards, and never finished debris removal. My then 4 year old daughter was behind me in a trailer playing with Barbies. I saw a rather large rock, put the tractor into reverse, my daughter falls out of the trailer, and I ran her over. She suffered a partial left foot amp, a compound tib/fib. I threw the tractor off of her, scooped her and ran into the house. My son called 911, and I grabbed my radio. She was bleeding everywhere. I set her on the counter, and the most vivid thing I can remember from that day is her grabbing what was left of her toes, and ripping them off. I secured them, iced them down, advised incoming units of plans to have her medevacced to the only hospital in the region that does micro surgery(the local "trauma center" doesn't have this capability). Truck arrives, we hop on board, IV initiated, loaded her up with Fentanyl, and intercept with my wife at the LZ and fly her. 5 weeks later she was discharged with ICU psychosis and PTSD as well. My wife became sick after that with Lyme. Not the stuff that goes away with a course of Doxy. She just finished about a 3 month course of IV Rocephin and oral Flagyl. She still has symptoms. Here in NY chronic Lyme doesn't exist according to our health insurance carrier, so everything is/was out of pocket.
Anyway, beyond all of that, we turned to the Lord. Not necessarily religion, but the Bible. And he has made our lives easier. I wasn't a believer until all of this happened. My daughter was the strongest faith I have ever seen. God does change lives. Read his word, and lay your problems at the altar.
Good luck my brother.

I just wanted to chime in here to let you know I empathize with your situation as well. Three years ago, my then two year old son (now five), got very sick for two months and no one could figure out why. Doctor after doctor blew it off as the flu or some other nonsense before one FINALLY sent us to our area Children's Hospital. He was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and admitted to the icu with DKA. We spent three days in the icu and two more in the hospital as his blood sugar was insanely high and had been for a long time. It's been a hell of an adjustment for all of us, and it's still stressful, but he's healthy and happy now. I don't know about Graves Disease, but I get the diabetes, and it does get easier.

Returned the note, went back to SII, thinking about coming back

There is something wrong with me.
I returned my galaxy note due to the fact that it wasn't as snappy as an S2 and i missed the huge selection of roms... and while I'm happy with the S2 overall (again).. i have found that nearly a month of using the note has shifted my priorities.
I now find myself missing the big screen size more than I thought I would.
Here's my dilemma.
I kind of want the note back. But I've done 2 reverse upgrades already (i'm indecisive as ****)
I got this S2 from walmart because the ATT store here didn't have the original S2 (lte market)
Will walmart let me do a reverse upgrade do you think?
and then would ATT still let me upgrade again?
Would you go back to the note if you were me?
I'm stupid. Feel free to make fun of me.
Call walmart and ask. Then call ATT. There is nothing we can do here.

Was really hoping for some opinions.
We all had the lag when it came out, but I'm oh SAUROM, overclocked etc and the Note is SUPER smooth! Not kidding, we're talking butter here...
Literally, ZERO LAG!
There are some seriously slick themes being made, too. Couldn't be happier!
No idea if you will be able to finagle any more upgrades, but if not, you can borrow my S pen to stab yourself in the heart!

I have a rusty butter knife. I'm not worthy of the s-pen stab.
Could have told you that lol. Anyone who was considering going back to a S2 after having a Note is Crazy!
Is there a tiny tiny bit of lag once and a while, sure but nothing I'd give the phone up for. I'm on the stock ROM btw. People get to crazy with the "lag" theory. Mines fast as hell, I just clear the RAM once and a while no probs.

Yeah, I'm realizing now that I would trade this smaller screen and zero lag for the bigger beautiful display and slight lag every once in a while.
The rom thing isn't as big to me as I thought it was.
I really hope I can reverse again.

you can.
i'd say get it from best buy if you have one near you. i'm biased (i work there selling phones) but i think it has great value.
typically you get someone who is more knowledgable (it varies, not everyone is a phone nerd)
you have the option to get a really good protection plan (no deductible, unlimited claims, water damage coverage, loaner phone, etc.)
and the option to get the buy back which will give you guaranteed $$ back when you trade in your phone w/in 2 years based on retail (its $60 normally, but if you have the protection plan for at least 1mo you get it half off, for $30. minimum you would get back is around your upgrade @ 20% of the RETAIL value which is $799.99)

Yeah, my girl owns the note. Since hers is the name on the account, she got the upgrade/re-up price. I was 3,000 miles away when she got em, so she's had hers a week more than I've had mine.
I admit I turned her onto the Note... I just couldn't stop blabbering about it compared to our Streaks. But she found the Streak not too long after it showed up at Best Buy, and after I went and abused one in the store, I gave the OK to go with the 5-inch candybar. We've had matching phones now for just over 2 years and she'll never be able to go to a smaller phone again.
It's a hoot at dinner parties when one of us takes out the phone (as it has been for a while) and someone, inevitably, comments; "My god, what is that? Is that a phone or a tablet?" Whichever of us had taken it out replies; "Yes, its both (Streak and Note... same difference for most people)" Then the person comes back with, "Wow, I've never seen anything like that before. That's almost too big, how can you use that? I doubt anyone could carry something that big. How do you carry it, does it even fit in your pocket?...." Then the other one of us will take out the other one. All conversation at the table stops. The inevitable iPhone comparison ensues.... 4 iPhones = (not really, but in screen real estate, close enough) 2 Notes. Pictures taken (if there are any phones left after the comparison laying of small useless phones on the big ones), jokes made... on both sides.... lol. "Wow that's so big" Me: "that's what she said" Her: "Why do you think I keep him around?" Them: "Are you compensating for something?" Me "What, both of us?" Them: "I'm not sure I could use something that size" Her: "Oh, I thought so too at first, but after a week or so I was used to it, and I could never have something smaller." Yeah, they are great icebreakers too... at anything from dinner parties to business meetings.

LoL @ over2land's story.
It is a conversation starter though - I've pulled it out standing in the back of an elevator with three people, and the guy standing in front actually came and stood next to me. Three guys shoulder to shoulder on the back wall of the elevator was pretty awkward.
The only other time I've ever had anyone stop me to ask about my phone was when I had the first generation iPhone [when it was still around $400 and not ubiquitous].
In the past three weeks of having the Note, I've been asked about it more times than ever with the iPhone.
This is why some people shouldn't have choices. Apple makes it easy for you... one new phone a year. No choices, no second guessing. And I can see why some people are happier with Apple for this very reason. But if you are going to be an Android user, you need to grow up a bit, make an informed decision, and be happy with it.
Then come to XDA and push that device as far as it can possibly go
My gf has the white note and never looking back. Her best friend bought one after playing with hers, she dumped her 4S and loves the screen size as well.

The Galaxy Note exudes a coolness factor/Samsung did an awesome job advertising this

Almost every instance on using this phone in public, people either stop and stare or they ask questions. It isn't like I'm trying to bring attention to myself but everyone is always asking if that is the new note. I leave it on my desk at work and whenever people come into my office, I'm asked about it and they want to doodle with the stylus. I hope this interest turns into more sales so that Samsung is prompted to come out with more phones in this line in the future. I simply refuse to go to any other phone now.
If you watched any basketball this weekend, the commercials were constant. They certainly seem to expect good sales:
http://www.androidcentral.com/samsu...llion-galaxy-notes-hopes-10-million-years-end
If you seek attention, I'm sure you will find it.
Seems as if you either walk around waving this phone in the air or you are doing something to draw attention to yourself.
Its only a phone dude!
I get a kick out of these type of threads. I used to read them on the iPhone forums and laugh, but it seems the same type of people are here as well.
Probably a bit of an underage issue a well.
I've been using the latest phones and tablets for awhile now and have never had anyone come up to me and ask me about any of them . Those that say they constantly have people coming up to them at obviously seeking attention.
Remember...a phone does not make you cool

I got the note cause I'm fat and needed a big keyboard. So far the only ones to ask me about it are my close friends. Never have I had someone cone up to me or stare at me because of this phone.

Lol i got approached by a stranger the first day i got it at in & out burger. Whenever i play draw something with the s-pen, thats when people start to stare and i could hear em saying wow and omg thats a huge...(insert joke here). But put this phone next to your ear and you get strange looks.
-Once you go NOTE, you'd say 4 inches a Joke
I had my phone out at Nordstroms looking at Google shopper for shoes I wanted. The salesman there asked if it was and I've probably been asked over a dozen times if its the note or wow that's huge what is it.

Your comment seems quite underage. Just because some people have strangers asking them about devices and you don't doesn't mean they are lying or looking for attention.
Really only a few devices in the recent past, such as the Droid RAZR, have received as much media attention and advertising as the Note, so all of your latest tablets and phones have likely not drawn the same attention from the general public. Therefore you cannot compare them to the Note.
I do not show off my phones, I use them. With my Captivate, I received no comments from strangers. With my Infuse, I had a couple, but only from people familiar with Android that were curious what brand and model it was. With the Note, same use and everything, I have received more comments and attention than the whole time I had both of my previous phone, in just two weeks. Dude in line at Chipotle, girl employee at Home Depot, several people I have never talked to in my classes here at college. This phone is turning heads whether you are looking for attention or not, so don't be a downer because nobody finds you approachable.

You guys are so funny, thought this would never happen to me.
Went to get my drugs at the pharmacy, and the 3 people behind the counter all came over to look at it and touch it, they asked the same questions. Yes it fits in my shirt pocket, and I let them try it.

I simply refuse to go to any other phone now.

i don't know about the Advertising
but after using it hands on for a few days I'm addicted, it's so hard to get back to my T989
I get a lot of looks, and some comments. mostly "is that a phone???", "is that the one with a pen?", or "Is that the Super Bowl phone?" (referring the commercials played at the Super Bowl).
I have a gold metallic case on it so most of the time it looks like I am carrying a huge gold bar. Funny the looks I get.
I get asked about it all the time. I'll just be sitting on the train or at the bar or something and I guarantee someone will ask about it.

It's definitely not the advertising. It's the fact that it's a larger phone. I used a Dell Streak for 1.5 years and got the same type of comments about it.

Not worth the time to comment but I will anyway. I use my phone for business, not playing games. I don't "play" with it while waiting in a food line, nor do I walk around with it like it is a trophy. Many here do. That is obvious. As far as being "approachable", I am not looking for strangers to come up to me and ask about my phone, and I certainly don't want them "touching" it. The reason I even responded to this post was because the OP stated that the Note exuded a "coolness' factor. That certainly tells me how old he or she is.

I also use my phone for business, not playing games. The only time games get played on my Note is when I let one of my grandchildren use it to keep them occupied. Nor do I walk around with it like it is a trophy as you put it. That being said, I still think it has a 'coolness' factor and yes, I have been asked about it in public. I spend a great deal of time on the phone when out - isn't that kind of the point to have a cell? If I didn't want to talk on the phone outside the office, I wouldn't carry it. I really do not mind people asking about it.

Story#1 (2 weeks ago)
I attended my wife's induction into the honor society for her university yesterday afternoon. There were 16 inductees and we all socialized a bit before the ceremony began. I was to pin my wife so I quickly made nice with the couple that sat next to us and asked if they would mind tag teaming on getting pics of the pinning action. All was set. If you could have seen the look on the face of the guy (and others around us). When I pulled out my Note... He said "what is that!?!? ". Of course, I took the opportunity to demonstrate the wonders of the Note to him as his amazement grew. After he got a chance to handle it and snap a few pics of us during our part of the ceremony he was hooked. His wife looked at me and said "I guess he's found a new toy now.. I can see it in his eyes".. I just laughed and went about my business. He had an iPhone.
Story#2 (last week)
So I venture into my local Best Buy to return an item. As I am standing at the return counter waiting for the guy to process my return, I am typing away in facebook and fully engaged on my Note. The young girl behind the counter next to him said "Wow. Is that the Note? I want to get one so badly. My mom won't let me but I am going to figure out a way to get one. I love that phone." I then let her hold it because she was so starstruck with it.. Really... I laughed inside.

A thread to mock them all!

So I got my Galaxy Note today, and as soon as I got home, I put it under my electron microscope, and to my dismay, I noticed nano scratches! I wanted to reach out to everyone to see if they noticed this flaw on their phones. I was considering using hydrochloric acid and a high speed belt sander to remove them. The only problem is, they are so small, they can't be seen with the nakid eye, and I dont know what to do. I paid $300 for this phone, and I find this flaw to be totally unacceptable. My phone should be absolutely, 100% perfect! I contacted Samsung about this issue, and they told me to suck it.
I guess it's off to AT&T, where I will open and inspect every single Note, until I find the perfect one. If they won't exchange it for me, I will lie and commit fraud to get my way!

Well played.
I'll take your messed up Note off your hands for $20. You pay shipping, though.
Kinda' funny.
You know, people can hate on iSheep all they want, but the fact is most of Apple's phones are PERFECT and uniform. Why do I mention this? Simple, the bar has been raised significantly for aesthetics and performance. Small amounts of burn-in, tiny amounts of black crush, overzealous memory use, uneven component quality -- with rare exception, iPhones don't suffer from any of this. While Samsung clearly has the better phone overall, bits and pieces still lag far behind.
P.S. I love my Note.

To add to what the OP was saying, at least how it appears to me; I bought my phone the day it came out, I just couldn't wait until October until my contract would have let me upgraded. Went down to the At&t store, bought it. They had NO accessories for it, cases, screen protectors, nothing. Anyway back at the house I played with the Note for about 4 hours solid that night, running quadrant, downloading different apps, games; Anything I could think of I did, I gave my phone "electrical" hell that night.
Next day I went on eBay found a case for $9, screen protector for $5, got a mhl adapter and 2 generic spare batteries and a host cable. Later that evening the 1st un-official rom was released for the Note. I didn't have a second thought, downloaded Odin and flashed away, in fact been doing that ever since.
Then I started reading post on here: Hair line cracks on Note, black banding issues, sound woes, etc...
I guess I am wired different than everyone else; If I buy something, and it looks ok, functions ok and was what I wanted to begin with i'm happy. I am not a person that will nitpick something to death like someone with OCD on crack, it's just not me.
If a stranger is watching me use my phone and wants to check it out, I don't mind handing it over for them to try out. I take care of what I have but I don't baby it either, it gets used.
[ Just checked my flash counter and i'm up to 38 Odin flashes plus how ever many I have done with cwm. I wonder if i can get up to 100 ]

The Death of a Great Note 2 Relationship!

Hi All!
Sorry to say that this is the end of a great relationship that my Note 2 and I have had. It's not Samsung's fault and it's not my fault the only people that can be blamed is Verizon themselves. When Verizon released the Android 4.1.2 update a couple of weeks ago the update installed smoothly and restarted the phone which was totally expected. What wasn't expected was for the display not to light up after the phone came back on. After fighting with Verizon support for over an hour on the phone, they sent me a replacement. Well supposedly they run the replacements through a 100+ point check before they send them out to people. Boy have I proved Verizon wrong on that with the phones that I had both the Note 2 and the Samsung Stratosphere(don't get me started on the Stratosphere). Well I get the replacement in the mail don't download the Android update or any apps other than the updates for those that Verizon and Samsung put on the phone. Within 20 minutes time the phone shut itself off 3 different times, and it got so hot that I could not physically bear to touch it. Which says a lot for the temperature because after working for McDonalds as long as I have I almost lost all feeling of heat in my hands so it takes a lot for me to be holding something and say that it's hot. I called Verizon and had them force feed me the bull**** that it had to be something that I downloaded causing this. After fighting with them for another 2 hours I had them sending me another phone and a replacement battery. Well the following Monday comes(2 days after getting the first replacement phone) and FedEx drops off the phone and battery. I open it up and activate the phone and no matter what I did I could not get the phone to connect to any wi-fi network. I spent 2 hours on the phone with Samsung, an hour on the phone with Belkin, and another hour on the phone with my Internet Service Provider all trying to troubleshoot the issue so that when I called Verizon I couldn't have them say that it was my internet service provider, wireless router, or something that Samsung had to help me with. I even went to every Wi-Fi Hotspot within a 15 mile radius of my house and tried connecting there with no luck. Well I call Verizon and fight with them some more and get force fed more lies and they send me out another phone. Well a day later when I get this phone it has the same exact problem of the phone that it replaced with the added issue that the power jack on the phone is so freaking loose that you can take the charger and spin it around in a complete circle. This had me furious at this point. Especially with all the aggravation that is involved when I call Verizon. Every single time I call them I am sexually harassed over the phone. They have it right there in black and white on the computer screens in front of them not to refer to me as a woman when I call, they have my name which is a guy's name and cannot be a girl's name, and the first thing out of my mouth before I even tell them my name is "I am a man, do not refer to me as a woman, and if you do so it will be considered sexual harassment." Well that doesn't stop them from repeatedly in the same conversation with the same person referring to me as a woman. Well after fighting with them some more and being sexually harassed some more and after threatening to take my family's 5 lines and get my extended family to follow suit with all of their lines(about 45 in all) and switch to a different carrier the head of the callcenter in Tampa, FL switched his tune right there and then especially after I told him that the reason he was calling me was because one of his management staff was sexually harassing me I gave him his choices he could either send me a brand new Galaxy Note 2 still in the box free of charge or he could switch it out to a different phone of my choice free of charge that was comparable in my mind. Well I chose the 32 GB model of the iPhone 5. I know it's no Note 2 in many ways, but I have had the iPhone in the past with work both the 3G and the 4 and have had no issues with the phone that weren't caused by something that I did( Dropped the 3G in the toilet). So as much as I loved the Note 2 and love Android I am switching back for the time being to an iOS device. February 4, 2014 I am eligible for my upgrade and by then the Note 3 should be out and I will be back to the Android side of the force. I just wanted to take and say my temporary farewell to Android.
Gunner Out!
Lol at sexual harassment.
Iphone5 comparable to the note2? Why didnt you say the s4? Or even s3? Sorry to hear about your situation. Verizon must be going down hill, cause I've always had good experiences with CSRs.

I never said that the iPhone 5 was comparable hardware, but I have always had good luck with iPhone's and I know plenty of people who have the S3 and they don't like the phone and I won't touch the S4 with a 10 foot pole till it's been out for a few months. Out of 5 of my siblings 4 have the iPhone 5 and my baby sister has the S3 and has had the same trouble with Verizon that I had. The best thing about the iPhone 5 is I don't have to contact Verizon Tech support directly I can go through Apple and my friends who are Geniuses at their stores.

I don't get it? Why wouldn't you touch the s4 for a few months? If you like the Note2 and Android so much, the S4 is the closest thing comparable hardware and software. Personally I think the iphone5 is a downgrade. Yeah, it might cost around the same price but it lacks a lot of features.

Asking someone to refer to you as male or female and the person does not oblidge does not constitute sexual harassment.
Sexual harassment*is*bullying*or*coercion*of a sexual nature, or the unwelcome or inappropriate promise of rewards in exchange for sexual favors.[1]*In most modern legal contexts, sexual harassment is illegal. As defined by the US*EEOC, "It is unlawful to harass a person (an applicant or employee) because of that person’s sex." Harassment can include "sexual harassment" or unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal or physical harassment of a sexual nature.
