Google text to speech option for maps, etc (should work now that we have root) - Verizon Galaxy Note 3 General

I take zero credit, and have not tried this yet (not rooted yet) but i see no reason it wont work. This will allow you to use google text to speech for maps, etc instead of the robotic, horrible Samsung voice. Please thank the op in the link!

I hate the Samsung voice crap. I use a app to read my messages when using my Bluetooth but I stopped because I couldn't switch it to Google. But soon I will.
Thanks.

Followed these steps and it worked perfectly. Through the Samsung hub it asked me to download a HD voice and I did but it still sounds robotic. I'm glad I was able to switch it to Google's

Using googles now. Worked great thank you. I hate Samsung's.

If - you restart after downloading It works fine

Samsung English UK HD sounds better but it doesn't stick for US.

Voice chat while playing a gameloft game online?

So I know first off you gotta ne on WiFi to talk on phone and use data. Me and my brother wanted to play Rainbow 6 and talk to each other. So i said let's call, then put or speaker phone or use Bluetooth headphones and launch the game and play online. When we try to launch the game while the call is in session it won't load up. Tried all my gameloft games, no luck. Anyone know how if possible to talk and play online? Maybe Skype, haven't tried it yet

I'm not sure if this would work but try using fring to make a phone call and use that instead. See if that works and let me know what happens.

Iris is also free and and better then siri as well
skyvi, andy, iris, speaktoit, vlingo, there are many better than siri. I like how skyvi has a personality like siri that isn't in another app. I forgot if andy and iris can do it but you can text and call from speaktoit and vlingo as well as google voice. idk, all great apps. Just waiting for that one that combines them all. I don't even use voice commands.. so idk why I'm commenting

Ask it if it is better than Siri on the iPhone. You get a great response.

its a fun little app, and somewhat useful if you use a lot of voice commands. Ive been using it a few days now and still get a kick when it responds to my outrageous questions lol. it would be nice if it was linked to more accounts tho
I've downloaded the app but i can't really try it, since I use accessibility on my phone the TTS engine won't shut up so it won't allow me to say anything, the app is getting 2 voices so it just doesn't work for me.

[Q] Call Recorder on Galaxy Note i717

Hi All,
Did anybody know, call recorder app compatible with Galaxy Note i717
That can use 2 way recorder and also no need to put on speaker.
App called CallRecorder you can get a demo apk here on XDA.
You have to be rooted though, I think. It works great. To buy it's like $9.99 but there are frequent demo updates.
there's a few ROMs like Saurom, Novena, and BlackStar that have it built in.
I'd go for CallRecorder after you make sure it works for you, even though I'm cheap that feature is worth the money to me, in fact, it should be the first feature a Telephone should have, then call blocking. IM<HO.

Haven't tried that app, but I would imagine that if it's on the play store it is the kind that will only record with the speakerphone on (for legal reasons)...in which case you might as well just put your phone on speakerphone and use a handheld recorder lol.
You might Google "Xposed Installer" and download that...I believe there are one or two call recording modules that you can then install that should get you what you're wanting.
Edit: here's the XDA thread to download the framework:

There should be links in that thread to download the modules.

Well I stand corrected. Very nice!

AAC "like" app wanted...

Hi,
During an operation on my brain tumour they had to put a Tracheostomy in which prevents me from speaking ( and eating and drinking ).
I used to use a programme called Grid Player on the iPad ( yes I know - I didn't buy it - it was a gift ).
Basically half the screen was taken by the keyboard with a big "speak" button and half was a window showing what you had typed ( pic attached ).
I'm now looking for an equivalent for Android as I bought a Nexus 10. I have looked at a few and they all have pictures to click on which I don't really need. The closest so far has been Alexicom which at least accepts free text but the window is very small. Predictable looks like what I need but costs £100 !! I just need the window and a ( virtual !! ) keyboard.
Any suggestions?

Also keep in mind that you can get extremely high quality text to speech voices that can be used alternatives to the default Google voice. I believe the best out there at bathe moment is Ivona Voice. With that installed, you will have a choice between a variety of voices and accents. Highly recommended.

[Q] Best Video-Calling App

I currently use Oovoo but wanted to know if there are any others out there that are any good, besides Skype.
Oddly enough there are a number of them out there and new ones popping up. Google right now is offering free Video conf as a promotion.
I myself like gtalk.
