I like the Idea of HTC Scrybe very very much, not last because of the much rumored Microsoft Courier.
So far I've only seen it taking screenshots and editing these with the pen, which is of course the first step.
But I'm thinking of live pdf editing and stuff like that. I want to open the Script for my lecture and add notes to it with the pen, or take a photo of the blackboard and insert it into the pdf, you know things like that.
Will these things be possible with HTC Scrybe? I think only taking screenshots and editing these is a bit uncreative and not realy productive and/or helpful
I've had the same concerns, but if you look on youtube and search video, you will see ones where someone actually writes something in the notes application, which sync automatically with Evernote. The writing seem to work quite well (i.e. small enough to actually write words and sentences on the 7" screen), although I am quite interested to see a live demo.
You can also find videos where people edit documents with the pen, including scribbling in books, PDFs, etc. Not sure whether or not these are saved as pictures - seems to be the only way (?), and then forward these as email, and so on...
It's a shame the only release dates I can seem to find point to an early May release...

If you setup your lectures in your calendar as recurring appointments, you can scribble notes in the calendar entry and at the 'next' lecture, you can pick up where you left off. This would effectively build one long note for each subject. This is one of the many killer features which are difficult to appreciate until you use it.

Flyer has palm detection and fine pen options for detailed notes. Only issue is that the touch buttons are not palm friendly.

Hmm... that's too bad. HTC's site show's this as a function of Scribe... maybe its a different app shown in the intro video. It starts with the user typing noteson a blank page, then taking a picture and adding to the notes, then handwritten annotations with the pen, then recording sound, and playing back the sound via the notes...
In any case, I still find myself preferring pen and paper to my iPad during meetings eventhough the convenience of electronic notes with sound is a powerful tool. We'll see if the magic pen or smaller form-factor of the Flyer solidifies the change.
I think the notes app can do everything you need including the taking of hand written notes, typed notes, sound, pictures etc all in one note.
You can also edit PDF documents with annotations etc and save those back into the PDF in 2 different ways. I have no idea yet if you can do any more advanced PDF editing such as changing the flow of a document with an image.

Yes, after reading a few more reviews, it sounds like the Notes application can do the notes and sound sync... though there may be a problem with the granularity of the notes and sound sync.
Definitely looking forward to getting a small-form factor, full-featured Android tablet.

htc's custom app can sync audio and pen. there are no OTHER apps that do that, meaning that unless someone extracts htc app, we can't do that on other tablets.

That makes sense. Not enough real estate on a phone to take notes. With the stylus concept, HTC definitely needs good apps which utilize the ped. The Notes app actually sounds like Soundnotes, which I use on the iPad. Definitely has the same quirks (per a recent review), and definitely not like the livescribe pen.
Hopefully we get a few more options as android tabs become more popular. I desperately want to go all electronic with my workflow, but can't seem to get away from paper for notetaking... I do scan those in for archival purposes. ;-)
So i want to make this pretty straight forward, I'm in college, I like to read my books on my tablet, I like to do all sorts of work on my tablet and until now I was a iLoser carrying around an iPad 2 which I had plenty of apps that I became accustomed too. That said, I now rock the Prime and the Galaxy SII skyrocket. I love android much more than crApple's ios. Can I get any student/professor/anybody that uses their fancy new hardware for work and the occasionally play to give me some great apps tips for the tablet? (first thing I downloaded was Evernote!)? Thanks a bunch! Perhaps if we get a bunch of suggestions we can make a section in the app's section for "school" or maybe "productivity" I also want to add that while I don't have the dock (yet) I will be purchasing one when I see it in stores. (whenever that is!)

(1) Android Office - The most complete office app I know. It's even got a spell checker.
(2) Ezpdf - best for hand write directly into your pdf files.
(3) Repligo - Best for opening very large pdf files. I use it to open and use regularly a pdf file that is 2000+ pages with lots of images. Renders pages instantly.
(4) Printershare - print through cloud print or through wireless.
(5) Writepad stylus - note taking app with palm rejection, meaning you can rest your hand on the screen and still be able to write. Can save your notes as pdf docs.
(6) Antipaper - Another note taking app that has palm rejection.
FYI, all of these apps were free at one point or other on amazon appstore.

I checked out both and one of the biggest problems I have with both is that I don't seem to be able to make folders to put notebooks in. I would want to have folders for each class, and then within the folder each notebook would be a lecture. Fairly surprised I cant do somethjing like that so not sure if I am missing something

Well, you could create your own folders. After you're done with a particular class, you could output the saved notes for that day as pdf and then store it in your own folder.
Or you could make several notebooks, one for each class, and then keep writing into the notebooks as if it's a paper notebook.

Another idea is this. Just make blank pdf files or pdf files with lines and then use something like ezpdf or repligo to write directly into the pdf file.
Just a couple ideas.
The main idea is make due with what you have. Be creative. Don't just have a set of ideas of what you want and then get stumped when you can't do exactly what you want.
Oh yah it wouldn't be a big deal if I couldn't, just wanted to check if I was missing some way to do it.
If I can't make folders so long as I name them correctly it shouldnt be a problem since I can do a search for notebooks which should work out the same as a folder so long as my naming is good.
I should probably do the whole export and put in my own folders anyways as a just in case

Due to the nature of the lecture and slides it's best if I annotate/markup the slides themselves so Ive been using ezpdf, but I really like the ease of use and features of the stylus/handwriting, especially the zoom feature on antipaper (Ive seen this on some ipad pdf reader as well ). So are the any note taking apps that allow you to draw on pdfs, or any pdf reader/editors with more robust annotation/markup tools?

You can zoom in on your pdf in ezpdf (double tap, or two finger.... opposite of pinch) and do your annotations like that if you need to get closer for your notes.
And when you are zoomed in and have free hand annotations selected, you can use 2 fingers to scroll around even while still in annotation mode.
As for the repligo suggestion I personally found it not quite as nice for annotations because you have to do 3 taps just to start an annotation. Once to bring up menu's, once to select the menu, then again to select "draw freehand", where with ezpdf its just one click on the top bar and your going.

Yeah I've tried all the apps mentioned in this thread, i was asking if there are any pdf annotation apps with the feature set of a stand alone hand writing app. I don't feel like ezpdf and repligo have the robust annotation features that i want.

yeah that's why I've been using ezpdf as of late, i especially Luke the fact that you can resize all the annotations after the fact. And thanks for the link

what about the stock supernote app? Also, you could try just saving extra blank PDFs to your TP with lines in them (ie lined paper), as someone else suggested.

do you have an android phone? you could install it there, back it up to an SD card via titanium backup and transfer it to your prime via TiBu restore.

I've found Dropbox to be really helpful. Not really an android specific app but it has been really helpful in group projects and case write-ups I need to access for class discussions.

How can you even use this? I've tried but trying to write small letters on this is impossible. All i get withthis program are small lines and dots.
Hello everyone. I am new to the forum. I tried posting this under the Asus transformer section, but due to me having less that enough posts it said I must post in general.
So I tried looking on the forum for exactly what I wanted and could not find it. I want an app that will let me edit any office or PDF file and let me to do it with a stylus writing freehand. I don't want to merely edit and just write in text, or highlight I want to be able to use my stylus and actually circle a word in power point, or be able to write notes freehand with the stylus on the side of the PPT. I do notice that Adobe let's me kind of do it with it's reader, but it just feels really laggy for me. If there is an APP available for me to try I don't mind if I even have to purchase it due to it being used for school.
Please give me your input! and thank you for letting me be apart of your community!

I don't know about scribble-annotating them since I don't believe that the Microsoft Office Suite knows how to display that kind of notation. Also for any meaningful editing you will need the onscreen keyboard or keyboard dock.
As for editing PDF files, I don't know of any apps off the top of my head that will do what you ask. You might try searching the Play Store.

Yeah I tried Polaris office...and I really want to do free hand scribble editing. PDF editing I am actually ok with Adobe as it lets me do what I want, but I really need something else for my office programs, because I am going to use this for school in lecture. I do have the keyboard as well, but I want to be as light as possible with just the tablet and stylus in hand.
I use ezPDF Reader Pro for PDF annotations for notes from my professors at school. I think it was $2.99 in the play store. It works great.
I havent found a good office app. Polaris Office, though it came on the prime free, is buggy and is limited on formatting. It works great for basic docs. You can only save in .doc format and docs i have created sometimes look way different when opened on a computer. But it does work.
I am still looking for the best app for an Office suite on android. Although SoftMaker Office mobile is coming along great. It is in beta still.

Have you tried using the dedicated writing programs for use with the stylus already (just to see if you can even tolerate writing with the Prime)? Even with the apps to improve the TFP's response to stylus input they're still not something that's even remotely efficient to take notes with. If you just want to draw arrows or circle things or make quick (but relatively large) drawings, it's okay.
I generally annotated my pdfs using Repligo reader. I could do light annotations with the stylus and enter comments in stickies. You could easily convert powerpoints into pdfs and comment on them that way.
As far as I know there isn't any Office app that supports inking yet, which isn't that odd since most suites can't even do basic tasks like display charts properly in Excel and Powerpoint.
IMHO, Android is still pretty abysmal when it comes to doing this sort of thing.
The official adobe reader app lets you scribble annotate straight out of the box. I use it regularly

BTW first off let me thank all of you for your responses! I did know about adobe having its native edit and I had stated above I was fine with that . Although on the other hand, the power point is the BIGGEST one I have an issue with. Although punitenshu I like your idea the most which is just to convert it over to PDF...I just didn't want to do that every time I received a new lecture.....Thank you everyone you have been such a big help!
Repligo Reader hands down. If you really fussy about accuracy, use it in conjunction with touchscreen tuner.
any idea what the s-note app will be like on the note 10.1 2014 edition, especially syncing with dropbox, importing pdf's and formats it can be saved as?

I'm also interested in this. I use dropsync and import and export a lot of PDFs. I'm assuming you'll be able to do this at the very least. I'm also stoked that you can open multiple instances of the same app. Now I'll be able to work in two notes at once.
The new S-Pen features seem pretty promising as well. I'm interested to see how customizable the air commands are (if they are at all).

Lecturenotes supports those active pen and does all the pdf import export etc. So even if the snote sucks youve still got a damn good alternative. I did read that the s pen air commands ARE customizable,so thats a plus.
That's true. I've heard good things about Lecturenotes, but since I've become so used to S notes and since lecturenotes is a paid app I'm hoping S notes will be as good as it is now on the old 10.1 model.

Lecturenotes is the most vesatile note app ive used. Different page types and styles, pdf imports, typing, drawing, shapes, layers evernote exporting. Couldnt be happier which i heard about it a year beore i did. Snote + lecturenotes and you couldnt possibly go wrong on the GN 10.1 too many options.
Try S-pen voice. Theres a free trail that limits you to 10 pages. But its a very simple program that records while you write and lets you play it back. You can see as you write the notes when its playing back or just tap somewhere and it will start the audio from there. Its great!
I'd love to use the s note app but whenever I import a pdf it shrinks it so when I print it back out its smaller then when I started. Ezpdf is good but is laggy. Any tips on s note and getting it to import correctly?

EZPDF Reader. Absolutely the best. It's the only reader I use on my tablet. I run a business and use it everyday to edit pdf's.
Xodo Docs, allows reading/annotating/signing.
It's still young, but it's got potential. Using it for university to annotate texts.
Fast, lightweight and not as bloated as ezPDF & co.
Used to use qPDF but it got buggy over the last couple of updates, so switched to Xodo Docs last week and even though I paid for qPDF I might actually never look back to it considering Xodo Docs is free and already better than qPDF.

Just tried that it works great for the most part except freehand can't seem to catch up with my handwriting. Also in freehand, double tap to zoom is not disabled so it zooms while writing quickly. The only other issue is it doesn't allow snap view of a single page in landscape. You can only do 2 page snap view or continuous vertical scroll. The rendering and all the other features seem great though.

Annotations work extremely badly in xodo. Pretty much worse than any other I have tried.
I also found RadaeePDF reader, which is pretty good, though it does spline fitting to the written annotations.
For me, I haven't found a good replacement for ezpdf for articles, and eBook droid for books.
EBook droid actually has the best spen handling. Take out pen and start writing. No icon to click.
But, sadly, spen is slow in eBookdroid. Strange, since on the note 2 it is quite fluid.

I tried pretty much every PDF app in the store but I always fall back to EZPDF which I bought for 50c a year ago when it was on sale. It's not perfect and I will keep looking for a better app that will come up eventually, but for my use ezpdf is the best pdf app on android atm. IMHO.

I just tried papyrus with pdf. It really works very nicely!
adding notes is very smooth, and the S-pen can directly write without needing to click anything or click done at the end.
What I found missing:
1. No highlighting, so I haven't found a way to specify transparency for the pen.
2. You can't flip pages with the volume button, or with a swipe - you have to click an icon at the top of the screen.
3. After PDF is imported, page rendering is slow. Flipping through the document takes some time.
4. No search
5. No links are followed, no table of contents.
6. Can't add pages to PDFs for notes.
And, a final comment: Don't buy the toolbox (which allows you to add text to your notes), it is really crappy!

Has anybody tried Adobe Acrobat. It works perfect for me to add text or hand written notes.
Mantano Reader Premium, baby. It handles PDFs like it ain't no thang. It's literally the only good EPUB and PDF reader/annotator on the market. It's super smooth, nice cataloging features and good interface and tools. I've never been able to replace it after 2 years.

Nice reader. But, couldn't find any S-pen support. Palm will continue to put junk on screen while drawing with the pen.
Of course this means you can't zoom in or pan while annotating.
Only tested for 5 minutes, and then refunded the 8.36 euro, so maybe I missed how to activate these features...
Has anyone used PDF import for Papyrus? I was wondering if if creates the massive image based files like s note does or not. I guess it is too much to ask for an editor that keeps the pdf file but also allows customisation of pen and later erasing of any annotation. Both of those things lacking in EzPDF cause me to use S Note but a 12mb pdf file becomes 70mb+ in S Note and a bit slow.

Has anyone used PDF import for Papyrus? I was wondering if if creates the massive image based files like s note does or not. I guess it is too much to ask for an editor that keeps the pdf file but also allows customisation of pen and later erasing of any annotation. Both of those things lacking in EzPDF cause me to use S Note but a 12mb pdf file becomes 70mb+ in S Note and a bit slow.

My impression is that Papyrus keeps the original format. At least loading large PDF files is very quick, and there is a directory that contains
the file in original format, and you can zoom to 10x and still not see pixels.
Too bad that it is not working directly on the PDF, though, so you have to convert back to PDF or auto sync to PDF on dropbox.
Otherwise, working on PDFs is really great.

Thanks heaps for the reply, that is very encouraging. I hate that S Note converts the PDF to images and then they became quite poor quality, not being able to zoom in without pixelation.

Of course this means you can't zoom in or pan while annotating.
Only tested for 5 minutes, and then refunded the 8.36 euro, so maybe I missed how to activate these features...

It definitely doesn't have the spen support that other readers do, but Mantano is literally the only reader that doesn't have lag and jank. EzPDF doesn't have nearly as much lag as other editors do, but the categorization doesn't match Mantano. Mantano does EPUBs very well also. I've literally tried them all and cannot find a replacement for Mantano.
