Movie app not loading the videos on my SD card - Sony Xperia Z Ultra

I've transferred some video files to the SD card on the Z Ultra (using Sony Bridge for Mac) but the Z Ultra's Movie app does not recognize these files at all. I've tried to clear the data of Media Storage (in Apps -> All) and restart the phone to force a rescan of the media files but that doesn't seem to be able to resolve the problem. Also, strangely the phone DOES recognize video files stored in the Internal Phone Storage. It also DOES recognize music files stored on my SD card - so the only problem is with video files. Appreciate if you have a fix to this problem!

Thanks for your reply. I figured out a fix already. Just create a new folder called "Video 2" or something. Then, use the phone's File Commander app, move all those videos in the existing folder to the new "Video 2" folder. Then those videos will load in the Movies app.

AllShare ~ Adding Files - [Sorted]

Guys,
Having now got my Samsung TV set up wirelessly I thought I would try AllShare on the SGSII and DLNA a few video files across.
However, what I am finding is AllShare does not seek out all movie files stored on either the internal SD or External_SD. It lists video's you have created using the default camera App.
Has anyone found a way to get AllShare to display movies you have transferred onto the SGSII?
Edited:
Sorted - See Post 7.
I seriously can not believe no one is interested in finding out why we can not display all video/photo and audio files.
I tried this on my Tab and sure enough Allshare does display other video files not stored in the camera folder, so it begs the question why is it the SGSII does not allow you to display them?
If this is correct and again I fail to see it's accuracy that would mean you can not show a movie you have on your external_sd card via Allshare. That sounds utterly preposterous.
Either I am missing something so simple it is eluding me or there is a problem with Allshare's ability in searching for and displaying all supported file's.
I don't want this topic to die without first a fight but if no one replies it will fold away in the depth's of xda-devs.
The Allshare apps on my SGSII has no problems listing videos not inside DCIM.
I've installed the Allshare app on my HTPC (Win7). Using the app on teh SGSII I'm able to playback videos in folder /sdcard/Movies (that's the internal card, don't have an external card to test with)

Thanks for replying, appreciated.
Well I am pleased to hear you can display and play other video media, this is how it should be.
Now if I can get someone to test the external sd as well then I will know if I have a problem with my Allshare.
Meanwhile I will try copying a few video's to the internal sd/movies folder and see if Allshare can pick them up. If so then it may be that Allshare does not list files on the external sd.
Weird as the Tab does.
Received my SD card today and moved the videos folder over from internal to external card. Allshare still shows the videos in the My Device tab > Videos view

Can you provide an accurate naming and directory of exactly where on the external_sd card they are stored please.
Maybe it's because I have mine buried too deep in the card for Allshare to pick them up.
As in say ~ sdcard/external_sd/movies/
/external_sd/Video/
In the Video folder I have mkvs and avi which I copied over.
Allshare could see them in KDD and now KE2 firmware. Didn't test with other firmwares.

That worked a treat.... Thanks, sorted.
What did you have to do, rename the Movies folder to Video?
No... When I tried that it still didn't display anything.
However when I moved the Movies folder to the root it then listed the files.
So weird.... naming the folder to Video's in the root displays nothing
Having the folder name Movies not in the root displays nothing.
.. but having the folder name Movies in the root works.
Talk about confusing.....
My next issue is with Music.
Any music in a folder named Music either in the root on the external_sd or directly in sdcard/ does not display anything inside that folder.
Where do you have your music stored and under what name?
Music is stored in /sdcard/Music/Artist/Album/track.mp3 and Allshare can see it all no problem.
I sync my music using WMP12 and it creates the Music folder and all subfolders. Works manually too.

Weird..... that is where I stored my folder named Music but Allshare finds nothing.
I'll have a closer look later... Just about to go back into theatre for this mornings Ops.
EDITED:
Well... I found the time in the end and what a surprise it is...
If I place the music where you did in sdcard/music/ Allshare does not display it.
But.. if I place it in sdcard/media/ the music files are then picked up?

sdcard slot question

I am considering to buy tablet s. One concern is that on the web I found out the article sdcard slot is only for transffering file only. Which makes me think that it is not mountable? or if it is mounted, the files on the sdcard can not be used as if they are on main storage? If that is the issue, can it be circumvented by rooting etc? Any information on this? Thanks,
Rooting would help with mounting. Stock music and video players don't see the sd card but many third party ones see and play from it ok. I have not tried installing games to sd card yet and have not read anything about it here. By the way cards above 32gb work when formatted properly acording to some posts here. Hope it helps

The stock apps the tablet comes with unfortunately do not read directly from the sd card. However, there are tons of apps in the market that will read your music, videos, photos, whatever you want from the sd card. I have tested and used MX Video Player, Quick Pic, and my emulators gameboid and n64oid

Dunno why some people say the tablet s doesnt read/play from the sd card....i have a 16gb card in mine n it plays photos, videos, n music just fine using the file transfer app already on the tablet...this has essentially made my 32gb tablet a 48gb tablet n im loving it...

I think you are missing the point. The file transfer app copies the files from your sd card to the internal memory. The stock apps cannot directly play movies /music from sd card
Sent from my Sony Tablet S using Tapatalk
To clear some misunderstandings here:
Sony Tablet S cannot play SD contents using the menus in default application (for example: when you will tun video player you cannot browse and play anything placed on SD card).
But if you will use bundled file explorer (or any other file explorer like ghost commander) you CAN play SD contents using stock apps - and it works fine.
So the real annoyance (untill root and mount) is the fact that you cannot _browse_ to media files directly from within bundled applications.
That's all - you don't need to transfer file to internal memory to play it, it can stay on the card.

[Q] Is it possible to modify google music?

I don't know if anybody else has any issues with google music not recognizing music stored on their sd card, if their phone already has internal storage, but I have noticed on my HTC Amaze that google music will only recognize the music on the internal storage and not all of the songs I had on my micro sd. Is it possible to modify google music to read or find music from more than one location on your phone?
PS I have more music than what would fit on the the phones storage so moving songs from micro SD to the phones internal storage would not be an option.
Delete The google music app and then reinstall it from some other source ! Maybe there's some problem in the APK !

I talked to another amaze owner that had the same problem. The issue is that google music will only recognize music files that are saved directly on the root of the SD card. As soon as the files are moved into a folder within the SD card it stops recognizing that the music is there anymore.

what phone do you have? does it have internal storage and a sd card slot? I have it on my nexus one and it has no problem recognizing music on the phone at all. I think something about having more than one storage place makes google music get all weird.

New mp3 on external SD card aren't beeing discovered

Hello,
on my Prime (4.1) I have an external micro SD-Card inserted. Now I copied some new and old mp3 files on this disc... and none of them are being seen by neither Google Music, Amazon MP3 nor n7 music player. The old files are displayed and played without problems.
On ef explorer, I can see, the files are there.
Before the 4.1 update, the new files are not being discovered by the music player after a reboot. Now, a reboot is of no help at all.
Thank you for hints.
Greetings

It may be related to the Media Storage application that data is messy. I did go to setting - App - All - locate Media storage - force close - clear data. You can reboot afterward then plug sdcard to see a new file. It works in my case.

Music on SD card

Hi,
I need an help: I put SD card with Albums, Videos and Music on my ZU.
I can see albums and videos but I can't see music on Walkman or Google Play...
Can anyone help me?
Thanks in advance!
Restarting the device usually makes it rescan for media on internal and external sd, but if it doesn't, go to apps, Media app (I don't remember the right app as I don't have the device now), delete cache and after a few minutes you'll have all the music in your apps.
If this doesn't work try again with Walkman app and Google Music app, delete cache and open app.
If none of this work, maybe reformat the sd card...
Tapatalked from my mother in law's horribly small, painfully slow, still at ICS LG 2X...
I have all music on my SD card but if some files not showing up I use https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.clypher.mediascanner
The phone does however rescan by it self most of the cases, It just need a few minutes to work
The phone should rescan by itself when you transfer files using an USB, but if you transfer wirelessly it won't do that. I transfered some songs with AirDroid yesterday, and I had to reboot so it would rescan. That's the unnecessary way of doing it, or you can trigger a rescan by installing an app that does this.
